Not sure I am any more qualified, frankly, but hey ho!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
becks130 · 21/10/2009 19:58

Totally I really do feel for you, it's bad enough from 16 weeks!! if you suffered from it before they should have referred you for physio as early as possible, they referred my at my 12 week scan.

I have also looked in to hypnobirthing but it's a little too pricy for me, can anyone recommend a book or CD?

motherof2boys · 21/10/2009 20:10

To the person who was asking about doulas - I think they charge about £7 per hour + parking if you need to pay in your area. I have never had one, but my friend did and found her very helpful.

sunnybump · 21/10/2009 20:53

Hiya! Just catching up, welcome newcomers to the thread, I need a date twin too so rather selfishly hope you're due on the 18th Feb . Scroll back and find the list and copy it in to your post with yourself in it if you like

Becks I'm doing the natal hypnotheraphy cd's which I got off ebay (another penny pincher here ) and I love how the pregnancy one chills me out. I'm still not quite sure what happens towards the end as I go all dreamy and float off, not to sleep but just somewhere else. I like the woman's voice too which is so important. There's samples online of most of them so you can check.

Great to hear of your homebirth plans too Fizzi there's an Ina May Gaskin thread I'm watching, er not sure how to link it... the other one took ages to do... but it's in pregnancy and is quite recent. I read her crazy hippy birth book when I was a teenager and am thinking about getting her more up to date one as it's not in any of my regions libraries. Esselle I'm so with you on enjoying the boob growth. Going from an AA to a C cup is a great side effect,.

We have a shortlist of names for our wee boy but have only shared them with a few extremely close friends. Family aren't going to get to find out til later incase they have too much of an opinion! I figure once he's here they can't insult him by saying his name is crap!

Thanks for the link to the Swine Flu thread, (is there anything not on here lol) after reading it and getting all worried I've decided to ask my doc and MW about all the stuff I've read about adjuvants and go with their recommendation. My GP and MW are both Mum's and I really trust them so head in the sand and no more news reports for me til I see them next week! I think I could drive myself insane otherwise. Well, even more insane..

We're going to be at the 6th month mark soon, how exciting! Gentle hugs to those suffering from SPD, earache, bugs and other horrid things. I'm still just tired and could sleep as a sport!

Take care

Sunnybump x

PinguCarrier · 21/10/2009 20:54

Thank-you all for your warm welcomes - it's good to know you're all out there, somewhere in cyberspace! Have added my due date below.

flyingcloud - thanks for the acronym pointer
ktpie - thanks for the link - was considering doing a course, but maybe the CD would be enough, though reading the testimonials, you'd think the course performs miracles- including pain free childbirth - not convinced but would be interested to hear from anyone who has done a course before spending the dollars, if not will definitely get the CD & Book
Fluffycoo - Happy to be a buddy, but you'll have to let me know what that entails - new to all this malarkey.
Fizziwizzle - Looking at your due date and the fact it's your first aswell, thought you might want to buddy as well? can you have 3 in a buddy system?

Totally it must be so hard for you. If you are a lecturer you are in University, right? They usually have a good health and safety department, "occupational hazard consultant" I think it is the person you have to see, if I remember correctly , your MW should know. When I was pregnant with DD1 I went to see them at 5 weeks and they removed me from my lab (post doc research with toxic and teratogenic compounds) it was v. boring to be sitting all day reading and writting research papers, but the odds of having a miscarriage or a disable child were too high...(for them too!!! scared of law suits!)
I am sure they can provide you with support: wheel chair? or no practical lessons just magistral ones in amphitheater where you can sit all the way through... One to one tutoring... Hope you can sort it out.
Bump is so big that people keep asking if I am sure it is not twins I am! with 3 scans... make me feel like a baby whale (I keep the full grown-up one for later ). I already fill all the space alloted in maternity coats my size, looking for a super warm moomoo [sick emoticon]

I can't believe it, woke up this morning and DS has chicken pox DH and I have already had it so should be ok, I'm waiting for a call from the dr to confirm that it's ok for me to be around him. I'm a little worried because my sister had it twice.

fiziwizzle · 22/10/2009 10:41

Good morning everyone! I've updated the list as I noticed that one of my due dates mates (I have two!!) was missing.

Welcome Pingu! I'm interested in hypnobirthing too, and have investigated going to a course but there is only one provider anywhere near me (Hastings) and she charges £275 for the course. I'm sure it would be worth it; but I'm already paying for an NCT course and I'm not sure I can stretch to the hypno too. So I think I will buy the book and CD and hope they do the job!

I just read Ina May Gaskin's Giude to Childbirth in a day (not all the birth stories I have to admit) and found it the MOST inspiring book on birth that I've read yet (I've got through a few...!). I am feeling really positive about being pregnant and about giving birth in three and a half months or so

becks bad luck with the chicken pox.

Right I ought to do some work

woowa · 22/10/2009 10:47

hmm, that one looks better becks130 - i'm back on! Still no 11th Feb buddy for me...

On coats, I bought what I think is called a "swing coat" from TKMaxx, a total bargain at £40 down from £140. Swing coats are great as they only button at the top, leaving room for growing bump (and aren't they growing fast now!!) I figure once it gets cold i'll tie a pashmina round bump to make up for the air coming in, if it does! Swing coats are trendy at the mo, which i think is great for pregnant people, as we can still wear them afterwards whereas a maternity one is a bit limited.

Isn't it amazing how many weeks we all are now??!! at 12 weeks, 24 seemed MILES away, and here I am! Once christmas is here we'll be so close. {excited first timer emoticon}

GuernseyFrench · 22/10/2009 11:18

mamaloco I too get the twins comment! Or people ask me if I am sure I'm due in Feb as I look ready to drop it! I'm 23 weeks...
I am aiming to punch the next person who comes up with one of those comment and blame the pregnancy hormones

fiziwizzle · 22/10/2009 12:03

Me too, I was saying if I only had a pound for the number of times someone asked me if I'm SURE I'm due in February as I look so huge blah blah, then I'd still be annoyed but a whole lot richer.

I must admit I'm larger than I expected to be at 24 weeks - 16 more weeks of growing, eeek! - but I'm sure my body knows what it's doing.

I vote we should all punch away

2Happy · 22/10/2009 12:57

I was all pleased at work when someone said "oh you don't look nearly big enough to be having a baby in February" until two people in quick succession said "OMG your bump is HUGE!" Grrrrrr

ktpie · 22/10/2009 15:10

Gosh there is a lot to read!

Sunnybump - I got my natal hypnotherapy CD from ebay too

Becks - hope your DS recovers quickly.

Stoofadoof - my loony husband gets up in the middle of the night when the clocks go back and goes out mountain biking (most people consider the extra hour a chance for more sleep, not him), so I will be woken up at some ridiculous hour by his alarm. Then he will come home after breakfast and fall asleep on the sofa.

The Ina May Gaskin stuff sounds interesting.

I'm very pleased today as I think I may be entitiled to maternity allowance, I hadn't read the requirements properly before, idiot, so didn't think I would be getting anything. Have been filling in the forms so fingers crossed.

Insanitybecomesme · 22/10/2009 15:28

wow everytime I come to read loads has happenned!

I had another scan yesterday with a consultant to look more indepth with this being a twin pregnancy, she was lovely and very positive that all is well though she would not commit to the babies being boy and girl, she said probably so. Next scan at 28 weeks when I have my GT test then 32 weeks.

Am feeling lucky at moment as apart from being tired by 8pm I am still feeling ok. Though know this could change at any time.

Found out this morning that my sister in law gave birth to her twins, two girls born sometime whilst I was asleep, but have no other details as they are in new zealand. To give birth they have had to attend a hospital nearly three hours away from home, and it was a c section so chances are no one will be home to update for a few days So I have twin nieces and on that note time for some next pressy shopping.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 22/10/2009 18:48

MamaLoco it's an FE college and they haven't done a risk assessment this pregnancy, I don't want to cause a fuss but I think they need to pull their finger out. Do you think it's worth mentioning or not?

I too have had 3 different people say to me today about it being twins, one even went as far as to say 'have the hospital said why you are so big? Is everything ok?'

I am shocked that I kept my cool and did not strangle her. What are the hospital going to say 'Christ you're huge, you're baby has hugeitis'.

Insanity- how lovely to get one of each. Although any would be lovely! How are you coping with buying two of everything?

Again back to my old due date!! Maybe it's a sign I'll go early (or rather go according to English due dates rather than French) but I'm still going to change it to my most recent due date, don't know how it got changed back again. I can't wait for us to get the counting the arriving babies stage!

Totally it sounds like they need to get organised with that risk assessment etc.

I have not got alot that I need to buy despite having twins, My other four were spaced out in pairs close together so I already have two cots, double pushchair and more than enough clothes etc, which is just as well as we need to purchase an 8 seater car.

Just had an email to say my nieces are doing well they were 4lbs4oz and 5lbs2oz, just needing a little help with feeding, cannot believe that will be me in a few months with two newborns

I can't keep up with you guys! I am finding my brain has turned to sponge, and I am saying things opposite to how I mean them. Today I was telling my sister that I am going to do this weeks shopping offline. Then I couldn't work out why she was looking at me in a funny way. So, keeping on top of who is doing what is proving tricky for me....

I have ballooned overnight. The other day, I was just feeling a bit like I had eaten too many pies, but just in the space of a few days, I now look way further on than my 21+5. Funnily enough, I have still only put on half a stone, so I must have slimmed down elsewhere because my bump will be waaaay more than half a stone!! At this stage in my first pregnancy, I was like, oooh, huff, puff, must sit down. But this time round, I am like oh, must get stuff done because I know I am going to get MUCH MUCH bigger than this over the next 19 weeks!!

We have a baby name dillema. DH and I both have first names beginning with J. Our DS also has a first (and middle!) name beginning with J. In the family, we are known as the three Js. So, do we J with this one or not? I feel like we can't win. Mum, why have we all got J names? I don't like having a J name etc etc. Or if we don't use a J name, then it will be like Mum, how come you've all got J names and I don't? etc etc. What do you guys think? I don't think I could face posting on a baby name thread just now....

So it's not just me walking along a soft mossy country path with the sun melting over me then! (one of my favourite bits on the pregnancy natal hypnotherapy cd)

Totally, have you looked on Direct gov for what your employer legally has to do for you healthwise while your pregnant? Here's a link www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Moneyandworkentitlements/WorkAndFamilies/Pregnancyandmaternityrights/DG _10026556
It's a rubbish situation for you though Are you in a Union, could they advise?

I don't know if SPD can stop you having the baby at home, one to ask at your next appointment with the MW's. I suspect it'll be down to how much pain you're in but I'm just speculating. Fingers crossed.

I've been told I was small for nearly 6 months and huge on the same day. These non pregnant folk just haven't a clue eh!! Still, my bump is now bigger than my bum, which is a good thing as it makes my ever increasing posterior look small by comparison!

I'm amazed how far ahead the 14th is for due dates, do you think we have lots of romantic sonographers looking for valentines babies!
