I am finding a lot of things to be opposite to some of you guys!

I don't have cravings as such, but am definitely fancying eating fruit much more than before, so our fruit bowl is empty a lot of the time because I've scoffed it! I do think a smoothy would make me gag though - ds loves them and the squishy bananas are enough to set me off!!

Interestingly, my appetite is smaller than it was before I got pg. I don't have a reliable figure for weight gain because we don't have scales, but I don't think it can be very much. This is completely the opposite to last time round when I had to eat almost every hour and ballooned to mamoth proportions!! Long may it last, I say.

I just got a puncture on the way to get ds from nursery. It was ds that noticed it, so I just drove home as it's not far and the tyre wasn't completely flat, but it definitely was by the time I got home! I managed to change it myself, which will save wasting the evening fannying about with it. No doubt dh will give me the whole "but you're pg" speech. I think lifting ds is probably heavier than lifting the spare wheel, but that doesn't seem to count.....

ktpie · 30/09/2009 14:48

Well done Mawbroon on changing the tyre, I'm impressed as I am finding bending over increasingly difficult, was tricky pulling out the tent pegs at the weekend!

Esselle - How annoying about the foundation, I got annoyed with my DS the other day when I was trying to strap him into his car seat and he just kept wriggling about and giggling. I really wanted to get home and it was uncomfortable leaning over and trying to get him in, took me about 10 mins.
My Aussie friend was saying the other day she got most of her maternity clothes over there when she was pregnant, she had some lovely stuff as well. Think she had a bigger budget than me though! I'm thinking about getting a regular coat for winter, a lot of the styles around at the moment would cover a bump quite easily.

I am hoping the lethargy will pass at some point, the house is a tip, I'm sat here surrounded by a sea of toys and stuff DS has dragged out and thrown on the floor, my friend is coming over for coffee tomorrow so I will have to make some effort at some point to sort it out a bit.

stoofadoof · 01/10/2009 01:57

hey Esselle i've been looking here in nz for mat clothes too - i was pregnant same time of year last time, but obviously autumn and winter rather than spring and summer, so i'm not sure the jeans, cords and ls tops are going to do it... i've been to pumpkin patch, but couldn't bring myself to buy anything!!! i've bought a 'belly band' thing and now wear this almost constantly with all my normal tops (which are starting to be a little, ahem, short over the bump)... it is starting to get warmer here though already, so i'm not sure how much longer i'll be able to hold out before buying some t-shirts and shorts! erk

good to hear everyone elses scans going well! half way through! crikey

stressheaderic · 01/10/2009 14:55

Hi all

Well I thought I was due March 1 according to regular lmp/calculator thingies etc, but first scan put it to 26 Feb so thought I'd pop along here, you seem like a friendly crowd!

1st time for me, and am celebrating reaching the half way point this weekend Only have a tiny bump disappointingly (although sure I won't think that soon) as there wasn't much of me to begin with, but it seems to be growing, and is often much bigger in the evenings, too much orange juice prob.

Next scan is a week on Mon, have restrained from buying anything baby-related until then, but it's been hard. We don't want to know the sex either (I hope the sonographer is good at hiding it).

Loving the tip about Innocent Smoothies, am not a great lover of fruit so will def give them a go, esp as I'm just getting over the flu so it's left me feeling pretty drained.

Feeling a few little movements most evenings now and even a couple strong enough for DP to feel last night which was very exciting.

Look forward to following the thread and passing lots of other milestones

AngelaCarleen · 01/10/2009 17:52

Had my 20 week scan today. Baby was very well behaved and sat very still for the whole time while the sonographer looked at everything. I tried not to look but couldn't help it, it's a good job I have no idea what I'm looking at, still could be a boy or a girl! .

I wish they'd warned me to bring a spare carrier bag as I struggled carrying my notes, two bounty pack things and a little file about budgeting (boring- that can go straight to DH!) around the hospital.

Hope everyone else is feeling okay
xx

sunnybump · 01/10/2009 17:55

Welcome Stressheaderic.

Mawbroon great work with the tyre. I think as long as you're sensible and don't lift things that hurt it's fine. That's only based on my pretty uninformed ideas though. I've never liked having to get someone else to do something I know I can do.

Esselle & Ktpie I so know what you mean about the tiredness, I could sleep for 20 hours a day right now if I was able. Sorry to hear about the foundation accident Estelle, sounds rubbish [hug].

I've just come back from my scan, all was well, even down to fingers and toes! It's amazing what they can see, including the fact we're having a wee boy! Great news as we have a good shortlist of boys names but no girls ones we agree on. It turns out what I thought was kicking is actually punching, seems like I've got a right wee active guy in there .

Such an exciting time, keep well everyone

sunnybump · 01/10/2009 18:42

Oooh Angela we were posting at the same time! So glad yours went well too

grin · 01/10/2009 20:01

Hello all

Glad to hear everyone's news and that we are all 'going on nicely' as my Grandmother used to say. Managed to have none of my mat tops washed & dried today so ended up with a most peculiar outfit on and a decision to be far more organised and wash my clothes before DH and DS's!

Am impressed about tyre changing, most efficient!

Good luck with other scans/finding maternity clothes/getting sleep/eating well, everyone.

mamaloco · 02/10/2009 07:55

Starting having very bad cramps in my calves at night and they still hurt (muscle bruise) in the day. I remember them from the last time but I was about 7/8 months on, it is only 22 weeks now.
I am eating my bananas and driking a lot of water, what else? Is it worth bothering GP or MW or just live with it, and limp for the next 4 months?
Does anyone knows if exercising (water aerobic or pilates) make them worse or better?
Thanks

esselle · 02/10/2009 08:17

I have chilled out, caught up on sleep and feel the neurotic madwoman persona slipping away...

Mawbroon - nice tyre changing effort!! I'm not sure if I could do it when not pregnant. I know the theory of changing it but have never put into practise! Plus I drive a 4x4 and it has big heavy wheels! I may just play the damsel in distress if I get caught out.

Mamaloco - I haven't had cramps in my calves with this pregnancy but have with the other two. I can't remember what, if anything helped or if I just put up with it. My memory is horrendously bad... my brains seem to be pure mash! I have got sore butt cheek muscles today!! I think it was from mowing the lawn yesterday!!

I don't think my maternity clothes budget will stretch to Pumpkin Patch, we are building a new house atm so paying rent and a mortgage! Sob! I will just have to make do with what I have.

My DS is seriously obsessed with my bump. Whenever I sit down he is over in a flash, pulling my top up and pushing his face into or rubbing his face over my tummy. Last week he snuggled up into my bump and went to sleep while I was vegging in a bean bag. He is in for such a shock when my tummy pillow disappears and is replaced with a baby!!

ktpie · 02/10/2009 09:50

Esselle - how cute about your DS! Falling asleep on you? Sounds lovely!

Mamaloco - I'd forgotten about the night cramps but had them badly last time, another treat to come I guess. Must start eating bananas. No other tips sorry!

Hello Stressheaderic!

I'm rubbish at eating enough fruit, bought loads the other day from Morrisons (I find their fruit at least goes through some sort of ripe phase unlike the other supermarkets where it all seems to go straight from rock hard to rotten!) so have no excuse now. Last time I really went off fruit, think it was the heartburn putting me off, but DS has turned out fine and absolutely loves fruit, maybe he is making up for it!

watercress · 02/10/2009 10:10

Mamaloco I had horrible leg cramps last time (used to wake up with them), though I haven't had them yet this time round. I upped my calcium intake (which for me meant more cheese and yogurts as I just don't do milk) and it seemed to help.

Esselle, you DS sounds sooo cute. Maybe he's trying to make up for Foundationgate?!

Mawbroon, very impressed at your tyre changing effort. I am one of those awful people who calls roadside assistance in such cases (though I have it as part of my car insurance) .

Angela and "Sunny* so glad your scans went well. I'm rather impatiently waiting for mine, which isn't for a couple of weeks.

Welcome "stresshead" and hello to everyone else .

fiziwizzle · 02/10/2009 10:32

Hello to everyone and happy Friday!

mamaloco I've been getting leg cramps for weeks and I read that calcium helps so I now have a nightly nightcap of cocoa. It makes me feel very pregnant and cherished, I have no idea if it actually helps, the cramps come and go.

I'd really like to see how big everyone's bumps are! Mine is truly growing by the day. We had a family gathering yesterday and sisters who haven't seen me for a couple of weeks couldn't get over the size of it. I can't get over the size of it. I look further along than I am, I'm sure, and it makes me feel a bit embarrassed. Does anyone know if eating less would mean a less big bump, or if it'll just do it's own thing? I ask that as I'm totally loving my cake and chocolate at the moment (every day) and don't want to give them up, but also don't want to be house-sized before I need to be... Have put on nearly a stone so far

scoobyd00 · 02/10/2009 11:02

Good to hear everyone's scans are going well. Mine's on Wednesday next week and my husband's managed to get the day off work so he can drive the 5 hours to join me - bless him!

In preparation for my bump growing (I still look a little chubby rather than pg) I tried maternity clothes shopping last weekend but nothing would fit on the trouser/jeans front. If they fitted my legs the waist was so big that they'd fall down, even with elastic and if I went for a smaller waist, I couldn't get them over my legs (I'm a hockey player so have muscular legs)! My jeans still fit at the moment, but it won't be long before they'll be uncomfortable. Does anyone know of a good place for maternity jeans? I can't shop online as my size ranges from a 10 to a 16 depending on what style they are!!

Mamaloco - I get cramps in my legs at night, if I haven't done any exercise that day. Try a brisk walk to see if that helps as it sounds like you're doing everything else right.

Mawbroon - well done on the tyre front. I'm fed up of people telling me I shouldn't be doing stuff. As I keep telling them, I'm pg not ill!

Clappedout · 02/10/2009 11:57

Hi all,

Just had my scan this morning, all tickety boo much to my relief. We didn't ask for the sex but I'm sure I saw some tyoe of appendage and the sonographer lowered the resolution very quickly. Having said that I thought I'd seen the same with my DS...I'll just have to wait I guess though dying to sort old baby clothes out!

How are the pelvic floor exercises going? I hate them, they make me feel sick but a very necessary evil.

scoobyd00 H&M do fab maternity jeans, with a big soft waistband that goes over your bump, not too pricey yet. Hope that helps!

Clappedout · 02/10/2009 12:00

Oops I meant DD!

2Happy · 02/10/2009 12:54

H&M def do good maternity jeans, but I need a belt on at this stage to hold them up!

Non-pg night cramps can be helped with quinine, so it may be worth trying a glass of tonic before bed (but it has to be schweppes as shops-own brands don't tend to have quinine in). It's not that bad a taste - I love G&T when not pg so get used to the taste of just T for nine months.

We're researching cars ATM - any tips welcome (I know there are billions of threads on MN already...). We have a tank volvo S40 but it won't fit 3 car seats along the back. Tried a Skoda octavia because they say you can get 3 in that - can you heck! Not even close. Maybe 3 booster cushions, but we need a atage 0, 1 and 2. ds1 is very big for his age, but even going up his predicted centiles wouldn't be 4'10 for another 2.5 years. And I'm a crap driver who is scared of the car I have!!!! I don't want a bigger car!

grin · 02/10/2009 14:20

Hello

scoobyd00 - re maternity jeans - well mine were in the sale at New Look and are doing me well now I'm a little bigger. They had loads and loads of different styles - maybe you just need a good old trying on session to find a style to suit you?

esselle that is just gorgeous. My DS reminds us if we talk about the three of us that baby is there too, I love it that he's already backing LO up! And today he drew a picture of baby (he's only 2 and a half so it was impressionisitic). He's more fascinated with my belly button's slowly changing form than anything, tries to poke at it, lovely.

Cramps sound yuck, my sympathies to anyone suffering with them.

scoobyd00 · 02/10/2009 15:12

Thanks for the advice. I haven't tried New Look so that may be my next step. I think I tried every single style of jeans on in H & M and none of them fitted me!! My legs are just to be thick in comparison to my waist and if I wore a belt I'd have a ridiculous amount of fabirc around my waist! I have this problem with jeans normally, so it's no surprise I'm having it with maternity wear! Fingers crossed for New Look.

So pleased that all the scans are going well.

watercress · 02/10/2009 15:32

I'm sure I'll be shouted down, but I love my Mothercare maternity jeans. Bootleg, nice colour denim, have fitted from about 12 weeks and will see me through the duration (I had them last time round). And not too expensive. Definitely worth a look if you have a big Mothercare near you.

I also have a pair of Blooming Marvellous mat jeans that I bought in the sale last time round. Less flattering than my Mothercare ones, but comfy and still look nice.

2Happy no tips on cars, I'm afraid. I've just bought a teeny weeny Fiat 500, having caused much mirth in the showroom by trekking in with DD, DH (6ft 2in), DD's car seat, a baby car seat and a pushchair just to check that it would all fit before buying. It did, and we're very happy together!

chinook · 02/10/2009 19:44

My sister got her Fiat 500 this week and LOVES it. I, on the other hand have a very sensible mumsy car. That new Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. It definitely has 3 full sized seats in the back and is really easy to drive. I really can recommend you take a look at it. I have the 7 seat version but there is a 5 seat one too.

On the mat jeans front I have 2 pairs, one from Gap and one from New Look. I love them both but find the New Look ones more comfy and accomodating of my post dinner enormous bump.

I have applied for a place at infant school for my dd today. Is anyone else doing this too? I cannot believe how the time has flown since she was born. This pregnancy will probably be my last so I have decided to enjoy it while I can as this time is so precious. Remind me of that when I get up at 2am again to swig some Gaviscon!

ktpie · 02/10/2009 20:47

I am still in my normal jeans, but I normally wear a belt with them and without they fall down all the time, I'm fed up of hoiking them up. Last time I never managed to find any maternity trousers that didn't constantly fall down. I bought a few pairs of maternity jeans from ebay last night so hoping they are OK.

I don't know anything about cars, I drive a van! It has back seats which we had fitted when we were expecting DS. I think people wonder where he appears from when I get him out. It's very useful though for chucking loads of stuff in the back.

This thread has reminded me that tonic water was my drink of choice last pregnancy. Less sweet and fizzy than a lot of the other soft drink options. Didn't know about own brands not having quinine in though, interesting.

esselle · 03/10/2009 13:15

Alrighty 'foundationgate' is over! My lovely DH came home from work last night with a replacement bottle. I am so pleased-now I'm wondering else what I can throw a hissy fit about... Nah just kidding! I can now go back to disguising my spotty chin!!

I have added 2 of my scan photos to my profile if anyone wants to see them and a photo of my tummy. Please excuse the pj's!! I wasn't pleased to see that my (old)stretch marks show so up well from certain angles!

skibelle · 03/10/2009 18:49

Hi everyone,

I posted at the beginning of this thread in a bit of a haze of sickness, but have been really rubbish about posting now I'm back at work and out and about again. I have been reading and keeping up though, honest!

Esselle - Glad to hear foundationgate is no more. Your bump looks fab (certainly puts mine to shame!) and I didn't notice any stretch marks so they can't be too bad!

We went to a NCT nearly new sale today which was brilliant. Spent £100 but got SO much stuff and some of it was brand new too. It wasn't the bun fight I was expecting, so was pleasantly surprised! My 21 week scan is not until 12th Oct, so was a bit hesitant about buying stuff before, but we decided that if the worst happens then we'll keep it for the next (with luck) or pass it on to friends. Very exciting!

On the jeans front, I have a Topshop pair which were great at first but are now falling down and saggy around the bum. Maybe because bump is higher now? Not sure why they're so uncomfy now, but I'm on the lookout for recommendations too.

FluffyCoo · 03/10/2009 19:37

Hello everyone!

Fairly new to MN (been on about a week or so), lovely to find other mums-to-be at the same stage! Have added myself to the list...

Mental day today - been over to Kiddicare to look at prams, OMG, I never realised there was so much to them! My head is absolutely spinning!

scoobyd00 I have over-bump mat jeans from Red Herring at Debenhams - they are dead comfy, nice and roomy in the leg - if a bit long perhaps!
