Hi moschops - sorry to hear about the stress on your business - hope things work out. Here I'm also feeling very tired - need to sleep well but always wake up for the loo, because of my asthma or to check on dds. Our pushchair fell to bits after using a buggy board with it so we'll have to get another one that will fit the maxi-cosi first stage car seat onto it. We also have a bebe confort from '97 that has withstood the test of time & kids very well. I have this now but find it heavy.

andif · 14/06/2005 17:22

OK, the anti-stupid-maternity-wear campaign starts here. Have you seen the mumsnet home page? Would love to win Isabella Oliver dress, but would also love to be able to go braless, as the model clearly is!!!! Thought the powers that be at Mumsnet would have more sense!! Maybe IO have surplus stock to offload as noone is buying it due to underwear issues.....

Sallie · 14/06/2005 18:27

Hello everyone! Currently living with my parents prior to moving into our new house on Monday. The whole purchase has been very stressful but is now seemingly sorted. The moving out of London was hard work too, what with my dh insisting that we did ALL our own packing! Anyway, looking forward to getting ensconced in village life and to life settling down a little (if it can with 2 toddlers!) before no 3 appears. Need to sort out where I am going to have the baby - probably one of the Nottingham hospitals. Anyone have any experience of either City or QMC? Wanted a home birth but as I am strep B positive that looks unlikely - sadly .
Haven't had chance to read the thread but hope you are all fine. I am utterly exhausted - haven't had time to bloom yet and am 27 weeks on Monday!

milward · 14/06/2005 19:16

andif - agree about silly maternity clothes. One catalogue I have has tummy baring tops & short skirts. I wouldn't wear these when not preg let alone when I'm 20 kilos heavier with lovely vein probs!! Huge white t-shirts is my other hate!! All I want to get are some long flowing type skirts and longer tops. Isabella Oliver does a lovely long skirt though- just wish there were some summer colours and fabrics.
Good luck with your move sallie. I'm step B as well. I can't have a homebirth due to hemorage probs I had last time - but wonder if the midwives could give you the antibiotics at home once you were in labour?

PiccadillyCircus · 15/06/2005 13:14

Back from holiday which was eventually lovely but had some not so good moments at the beginning (involving an over heating car, a pregnant person who had forgotten to upgrade the car's breakdown cover to include Europe, various breakdown trucks, complicated discussions in DH and my GCSE French with mechanics, additional hotel stays etc etc. Thank goodness for credit cards).

Weather was beautiful. Today I have the day off and DS is at nursery . House is a mess but I am working on it.

Seems weird to think I will be 27 weeks on Friday. I am feeling better at this stage in the pregnancy than I did last time, which is also good. Although I will be watching out for swelling (had to virtually surgically remove my rings at 28 weeks before).

Now I will read all that has happened here over the past week and a bit (wonder how many threads there have been on Mumsnet while I've been away?)

singleteenagemum · 15/06/2005 14:06

Hi Picadily, just thought i'd say hi.

It's alrgiht for some going on holiday! Glad all went ok....well at least it was interesting!

PiccadillyCircus · 15/06/2005 14:36

Hi STM and welcome to the September thread .

I really should tidy up a bit instead of mumsnetting .

Katts · 15/06/2005 16:26

Ok I think I've gone nuts. I just ordered the Gentle Birth self-hypnosis/visualisation tapes for pregnancy & labour. Before pregnancy, I would have shot myself before going all new age.

elasticated · 15/06/2005 17:16

Katts - you're right. My mum is into crystals, reiki, and lots of other therapies - she gave me a 'meditation for pregnancy' book and a relaxation CD, both of which I accepted gratefully but very sceptically a couple of months ago - now I am loading the relaxation CD onto my iPod and am about to try out a couple of the meditation exercises! Amazing what lengths you'll go to once you've watched a couple of episodes of 'Desperate Midwives'!!!!!

Katts · 15/06/2005 17:35

Ha ha! That's why I got the cd's and not the tape so I can put them on the iPod and listen to them at work. Oh dear!

franch · 15/06/2005 18:26

Another self-hypnosis nut here - I'm still quite sceptical about the actual 'hypnosis' concept but am using the Natal pregnancy relaxation CD which is part of a set that also includes a birth preparation CD (I've got the homebirth version), music for use in labour, and a postnatal recovery CD. The relaxation concept I do get, and am finding the CD amazing - I put it on when DD goes down for her nap and fall asleep pretty much instantly (this is OK apparently!) - into a very deep sleep - only problem is I do often have trouble waking up again and sometimes spend the rest of the afternoon feeling a bit drugged! Very unusual for me to unwind so easily though so there's obviously something in it

Hi All

Have been a bit Mumsnet deprived this week as have been working out of the office - good to hear everyone is doing well. Very excited as I managed to get myself onto the yoga course at the Iyengar Yoga Institute (v difficult to get into as v popular) and my transfer to UCH finally came through, and I have my first midwife appointment there on 8th July - YAY! Can anyone who is going to UCH tell me what number I need to call to sort out antenatal classes??

Anyone who is coming to the London meetup on Saturday please confirm their attendance here so that I can call tomorrow and confirm our bookings. Thanks!

bubbles2904 · 15/06/2005 20:22

hi everyone, just wanted to say hello as i haven't posted for a few weeks. had mw appointment today and all was well, she says i have a perfect little baby. i'm so happy i could cry, thats no surprise though as thats all i've seemed to do for the last 28+4 weeks lol

franch · 15/06/2005 22:38

Aw bubbles, that's lovely.

nably · 16/06/2005 11:22

Hiya, relaxation cd's seem a great idea and I like the idea of listening on the train on my ipod...as I get off at the end of the line, someone might be kind enough to wake me if I drop off (and start snoring!!).

Can anyone reccommend one - where can you get the gentle birth one Katts?

Katts · 16/06/2005 11:27

Good news bubbles!

Kiwifruit, I don't think you even have to book the antenatal classes at UCH you can just turn up for the ones you want. They gave a brochure at booking in that lists all the dates and what's covered on each course. Don't have it with me at the moment, but if they don't give you the information you need when you ring let me know.

So the midwife told me the other day that I've gained too much weight. 10 or 11 kilos at 26 weeks. She didn't seem overly concerned. But it got me wondering why gaining more weight than they say you should is a problem? Does it cause more complications with birth? I figure I still have low blood pressure, I'm going to yoga twice a week, and swimming about 1500 metres once or twice a week then it's not a problem. It's not as if I'm just sitting around eating chocolate & crisps. Any thoughts?

nably · 16/06/2005 12:02

I think it is so wrong for them to give an opinion on weight gain unless it is detrimental to yours or your babys health. Ive have put on about 10-11 kilos at 26 weeks too and its all bump. Ive not gained weight on other parts of my body and I feel great, also still going swimming and yoga. I wouldnt worry at all Katts, just keep doing what you are doing for as long as possible and if you feel healthy, your mental wellbeing has more effect on your baby than weight.

People will always comment but the so called professionals should know better. We are all different but im certainly not going to listen to people who cant say anything constructive.

There is a girl at work who thinks its amusing to call me fatty ( I wouldnt mind but im probably still slimmer than her and she's never been pregnant!) - I wonder how she would react if I called her ugly!! I wouldnt be so cruel...or maybe she might get me just at the wrong time so at least I could blame my hormones!

pooka · 16/06/2005 12:52

I've put on 2 stone i.e. 28 pounds and I'm 28 weeks. That's 12 kilos. No problems from midwives. No weighing. Am eating more than usual, and am addicted tomilk. But look slimmer than last time (still whale like). Am hoicking dd all over the place. I think it's iresponsible to highlight weight gain unless medical problem. Everyone is different and we can't all be Victoria Beckhams (nor would we want to).

Rhumba · 16/06/2005 13:08

Hello, haven't posted for a while either. Had my scan last week and my placenta's low lying so I have to be rescanned at 32 weeks. Fairly confident that it'll be Ok by then but was a bit concerned when I first found out. Present PMI covers me if I need a c-section but my group at work is being sold off and having to speak with HR and negotiate that they make sure my new PMI provider covers me for it and that it's OK that I've already been diagnosed with it as some have pre-existing condition exemptions. Good news is that the new company offer 18 weeks full pay then SMP and my current one offer offer SMP!

Been busy trying to potty train DS which I'm finding exhausting with lots of trips to the loo all the time and constantly having to watch him incase he forgets. Lots more washing too! He's doing really well and hopefully this way it'll all be well under control by the time No2 comes.

Pooka, have been to the last two yoga's on enjoying it although its a bit of a rush as I work that day so have to pick DS up then wait til Dh gets in an rush off. Actually met another mum I know there who I've not seen for a while and didn't know she was pregnant either.

Baby kicking lots more too now (am 25 weeks)and think I've finally stopped throwing up hurrah.

pooka · 16/06/2005 13:23

Hi Rhumba. Didn't go last time which was a shame as Zoe said that a woman spoke about homeopathy, which would have been interesting. The timing isn't brilliant, is it? My father visited and overstayed and I missed the window for getting there on time (and not having to stand in the middle of the room).
Glad you're not still being sick. Goodness, it was bad enough for me feeling nauseous till about 18 weeks, let alone that long!

singleteenagemum · 16/06/2005 13:28

Hi everyone,

I've only put on 10lbs and am 25weeks. is this bad?
Changing the subject....anyone know of any single men? lol Everyone says should concentrate on little one, but my needs still need satifying...anyone got any ideas?

RedZuleika · 16/06/2005 13:40

Hello hello.
Re: the weight thing. It really gets my goat when people offer opinions like that. You'd think that all women were made to a standard model: 28 day cycle, 40 weeks gestation, x amount of weight gain permissible in pregnancy, cervical dilation at 1 cm per hour... any deviation from the norm - send her back to the workshop for a refit!

I'm just over 26 weeks and I've only put on about 8 pounds / just under 4 kilos. It's not for lack of eating. However, according to the midwife, the peanut is the right sort of size and fundal height is what she would expect.

I didn't think they were supposed to weigh you during your pregnancy anymore these days, as it's not a reliable indicator of foetal size...? Just the initial weigh-in at the booking appointment, where they calculate your BMI (and then think of all the reasons why larger women might be 'high risk'...)

milward · 16/06/2005 13:46

RZ - I've put on 20 kilos!!! now 25 weeks. Always gain loads when preg. Agree with you on the issue. I've never dieted & don't intend to just think that being preg for me means I gain loads and for others they gain very little. Breastfeeding has always used up the excess for me and I've been back to my usual size quite soon. Six weeks after giving birth I was just 2 kilos bigger than when I began. HAte stepping on the scales at appointments.

RedZuleika · 16/06/2005 13:53

I haven't been weighed after the first time - but if you don't like it, you could just refuse. It's a bit like being the prize heifer at a county show...

Katts · 16/06/2005 14:01

So does anyone know if there are any ACTUAL risks or problems associated with gaining too much weight or are they just taught pregnant ladies should gain x amount of weight because someone somewhere said so? I'm not worried about it in my case, because as I said I'm still active and healthy. It's not as if I'll have to be removed from the flat by crane through a window to be taken to hospital.
