Thought I'd start a new thread as No 3 is pretty long now! If anyone knows how to link between the 2 threads can you put one in - I'm not called Jellybrain by accident you know .

Had a job interview yesterday but, haven't heard anything back yet . I don't think my preparation was all that good and was pretty busy over the weekend with birthday party preparations and was consequently shattered.

Thanks Azure and Eulalia for your kind words, I really needed some sympathy. I have an appointment booked with the consultant for week 36/37 but I'm just not sure what will happen until I've spoken to them, so if I don't get my c/s I will have to go through a 'trial of labour' and then fight it out with the m/w there and then. I'm just worried that I won't be compus mentus enough to stand my ground (I want a c/s instead of an instrumental delivery should the baby not make it out) and now I just don't trust my dh anymore to fight my corner for me. I am really worried.

Miaou · 09/06/2005 16:07

Josey and Rochwen, I'm so sorry about all the problems you are having at the moment. I really wish I had some constructive advice for you but I don't, so I am sending you hugs instead.

josey · 09/06/2005 16:10

didnt have to go to hospital after all as bump decided to wake up in time and is making up for being so quiet now thank goodness.

rochwen that is awful i really feel for you, has you hubby stated his reasons for wanting this?
im afraid if mine was like that i would get a sharp object and thump him with it every 5 mins for a few hours then kick him in the u know whats a few times then as him would he like an epidural! sorry im not ususaly violent
maybe he will come round, if not i would go to my appointments by myself and arrange what i want so he has no choice.

Azure · 09/06/2005 16:46

Josey, glad to hear everything's alright and your baby is making his or her presence felt.

Rochwen · 09/06/2005 17:11

Oh that's great Josey !

kate100 · 09/06/2005 17:59

Glad that everything is OK Josey

Rochwen, if you want to have a CS, that's your decision and your DH should support that decision. What is it about it that he objects to so strongly? He may feel very differently about epidurals when he sees you in labour. I do really think that the 'we' stuff is rather silly, has he been growing the baby and is he going to push the baby out? I know I'm very lucky, DH will support me and fight my corner when I'm in labour, good job really, as I loooove the G+A In my case it's quite the opposite, not taking me off to theatre when it's not needed. If my baby was in trouble then OK, but not if I just need to take my time, like last time. Hope you get things sorted out with him soon.

Twiga · 10/06/2005 09:19

Morning all, got back from my trip to England last night - had a fab time with my friend and family. Friends husbands suprise 30th party went off without a hitch and he didn't suspect a thing! Had a lovely day with my mum and dad on her 50th yesterday, and my wee niece is as adorable as ever.

Colinsmommy - hope colin is feeling better and his teeth aren't giving him too much hassle - what a cutie! Photo's are lovely. Much sympathy re: extra blood tests and stuff.

kate - sorry to hear about your scare, but so glad everything is ok.

Raggydoll - welcome to the August thread !

Josey - glad things are ok, the weekend sounds like it was really scarey {{{hugs}}}

Rochwen - no advice, but hope it all works out, keep tlking to him about things.

So some quick answers to the survey:
Working - due to finish tomorrow, but staffing still "processing" my forms - they've had over a month - so not sure what is going to happen need to phone staffing to day and get a definate answer as I've been unable to give my manager a def date - they are meant to confirm to me and manager via letter.

Weight Gain - about a stone (14lb?)

Stretch Marks - a few silvery looking ones on each boob but nothing else, also nipples now leaking a wee bit of colustrum, marking bra a bit but not bad enough to need pads.

Belly Button - not a prob, don't have one! I had an exomphlus (query spelling) at birth, which basically meant some of my bowel etc was outside of my stomach in fluid filled sacks - I needed an operation to put this back and have a neat scar where my belly-button would be. My scar is wider than it used to be and flatter so my bump is round but flat in the middle IYKWIM.

Due Date - 31st August so just 28+2 today!

Have got my 28 week appt with midwife later today, bit nervous about it after the last appt but things should be fine. Going to talk to her about pains in my pelvis and hips as seems to be getting worse.

Eulalia · 11/06/2005 19:10

Good news josey

Hope you have a good last day at work Twiga.

Tried to get support stockings yesterday. They didn't have them in the small Boots in our nearest town. The chemist had them but she said it would be better to get them fitted at the doctor and on prescription which of course will be free. So of course that means making an appointment and delaying things. In the meantime today I wore a bandage which kept on slipping down. Later on the safety pin came out and as I was unhitching my dungarees I caught the catch on my hair and yanked it. Arggh! Doesn't being pregnant just make you feel irritable sometimes!

colinsmommy · 12/06/2005 00:30

Glad your bump decided to move, Josey.

Got a call from the dr. office yesterday about my diabetes test. They said I had 3 normal and 1 abnormal reading. The nurse said it was odd, because it was the 3rd one, and then the 4th one was normal. The dr. wasn't in yesterday so the nurse said she didn't know for sure what the dr. would do, but said it would be most likely that I would either have to do nothing, or just make slight modifications in my diet.

Colin's sleeping in his big boy bed now. His room's all finished except the wallpaper boarder. He's actually doing quite well. I wasn't planning on putting him in there yet, but he insisted on sleeping in there and won't go in his crib anymore. He only gets out and wanders around when he wakes up, so that is good.

jellybrain · 12/06/2005 08:04

Hi All
I've been very lazy about posting lately.
The last 7 months have gone very quickly I hope time doesn't start to stand still now.
I know some have you have been a bit worried about small bumps, has any got the opposite 'problem'. People, incl strangers keep asking when I'm due and then looking horrified when I say its still another 8 weeks and then saying O you must be feeling so hot and tired' in a totally patronising way. Thing is I don't feel much different to normal (except for the wriggles and kicks) and still have to do a double take when I walk past a shop window or mirror.
Anyway went to Dr week before last and db is in a transverse position which apparently makes your bump look bigger, and have had 2 fairly big babies in the past, 8.5lbs and 10lbs so I'm sure this one will be a good size too. Doesn't seem to have turned yet lots of wriggling and what seems like sticking her bottom in the air but, on the whole she seems pretty comfy and has little intention of turning around. My next antenatal is 24th June and I will need to discuss the options with mw if nothing has changed.
Have just had a lovely week in the Peloponese and am feeling really relaxed.
Aggh re your hayfever Rowchen, luckily my seem tos ease when I'm pregnant but both dss suffer have had to collect ds1 from school early a couple of times. Hve you tried one of those dioniser things in your bedroom , they're supposed to be quite good. Then the obvious keeping windows closed and not drying bedding outside helps a bit too. I'm sure you already know this though and would love me to shut up!

am officially on Mat leave - hurrah! And, my letter from staffing finally showed up yesterday although I think some of the dates are wrong so have to double check at some point. Decorating going well - house looks like a bombs hit it but anothe couple f days should see it straight downstairs then it's on to the bedrooms upstairs!

Midwife appt went well, looks like I have spd and am about to be the proud owner of an attractive tubi-grip thing - midwife dropping it round at some point over next 24 hours. Spent a couple of very sore nights not getting a lot of sleep but I think having finished at work will help - should get more rest, less stress etc. Trying to avoid taking any tablets.

Have a good day all, lol x

Eulalia · 12/06/2005 16:30

Happy Birthday Kate

Miaou · 13/06/2005 09:15

Hello everyone, congrats on finishing work twiga! Now you can focus on you and your bump and just forget about stress for a while!

I got an appointment letter on Saturday, asking me to attend hospital today for a growth scan - presumably they are checking for IUGR. I'm assuming the appointment came through so fast because our scan unit is not overstretched, rather than because it is seen as urgent! I am determined not to get worried about it anyway. Finish my antibiotics today - yay! All is now well on that front.

Bensmum3 came to stay with us on Saturday and we all went swimming on Sunday, we all had a lovely time. Her ds2 is SO gorgeous, it's a good job I'm pg, otherwise I would be feeling unbelievably broody by now!

Rochwen · 13/06/2005 11:17

Yes, Happy Birthday Kate ! Hope you had a great day.

Miaow, don't worry I'm measuring very small too and they are keeping an eye on me but the m/w just thinks it's because I carry so little amniotic fluid ... and hey, who wants an 11 pound baby?

Twiga, I've got spd too (though not too severe which is why I didn't take it too seriously at fist, however on Saturday I slipped in the bathroom and I thought I'd broken my pelvis. Ouch !!!) I've got one of those tubi-grip thingies too. They are hilarious ! They look like a whole body condom and it took me a while to figure out the best way to 'wear' it, not before I had plenty of fun with it though. The thing is almost as long as I am tall and I tried wearing it as a dress, a skirt, a boob tube (fabulous support) and a turban. It looks totally silly as a spd belt and I find it a bit too strong, I feel that it makes my ache worse rather than better.

I was really dissappointed when I started having those pains but I suppose I got off lightly on the morning sickness front and my as m/w said very few pregnant women get away with nothing. It just shattered my idea of a super-active pregnancy (I wasn't allowed any excercise for the first 6 months either for fear of an incompetent cervix and just when I got the ok I got bloody spd, mpfff) with yoga, acqua aerobic, pilates etc followed by an 'athletic' birth. Now I can't even think about spreading my legs further than 5 inches without grinding my teeth. Any idea what options of birth postions I will have because I don't want to cause any more damage having my legs akimbo ... and should they suggest stirrups I think I will just cry.

I just hope that it'll dissappear right after the birth as I would be heartbroken if I was stuck with this pain for the rest of my life, esp as I've always led such an active life - I've got two horses I compete, I do kick-boxing, athletics (not while I'm pregnant of course).... Life without sport is just not an option for me. Does anybody know how commong spd is ?

Well, apart from that little worry I have finally gotten my act together and written a list of all the baby things I will need, decided on a pram, started my NCT classes (omg do they hate me already) and yesterday the inlaws came round and we started 'recycling' furntiure from the rest of the house for the nursery, then a friend came round and promised me her changing table. Tada, am almost organised ! Go me !!!

Eeek, this turned out to be another novel, sorry for that.

jantogan · 13/06/2005 11:38

hello all,i read the all messages everyday but I've been litte bit lazy about posting, seems everybody is Ok.
kate,happy birthday,hope you have a perfect day.
Twiga, you must be very happy to finishing the work, you i hope you enjoy decorating your home.
My next mw app.on thursday,I am feeling so energetic,no back pain,no tense shoulders since last week,i think is"nestling".Even I celaned the kitchen two times a week.Anyway i like this feeling...

josey · 13/06/2005 13:05

happy late birthday kate.

was back at the doc's today as still feeling weird BP is up quite a bit so have to go back on wednesday (do think it was the student doc that coulnt work the thing properly as i ended up with no feeling) i have also been signed off work for 4 weeks to let my iron kick in and hope bp drops.

DH is busy painting the babys room today, cant wait for it to be done.

Jellybrain i keep getting the your huge comments but really they only come from people that havent seen me and my MIL has told she seems to think im the biggest pregnant person she has ever seen and take great delight in making a thing over it, else where i have been told im just fine so im trying not to listen to the mouth like the chanel tunnel.but there is nothing more annoying when random people making comments.

congrats twiga you must be delighted to be finished.

good luck with the scan miaou and like you say sure you have no reason to worry.

Eulalia · 13/06/2005 13:40

Miaou - I am sure you will be fine, my first was a small bump and I had an extra scan. He was a bit small at birth but nothing to worry about. Good luck with the scan.

Rochwen - I am not an expert on SPD but most pregnancy symptoms do not stay after birth because of the change in hormones and of course the weight of the baby not being there. I am sure you will be fine. dd pressed down on my hip during pregnancy and it did take a few weeks after for things to ease back but I've never had an inkling of anything since and nothing so far in this pregnancy.

Twiga · 13/06/2005 14:24

Hi all,

Miaou, hope things go well at the scan, let us know when you get a minute. Glad you had a lovely weekend with Bensmum3.

Belated birthday greeting Kate!

Jantogan, hope your midwife appt goes well thurs.

Being finished at work is ace, although they have already managed to phone me about a couple of things needing advice. Nice to feel my times my own and am taking advantage of the oportunity to have afternoon naps, had some distrubed nights sleep recently so pretty tired.

Thanks for your chat Rochwen, sounds like my spd is pretty similar to yours. Ultra attractive tubi thingy arrived yesterday afternoon and I struggled into it this morning. Would agree about it being a bit on the strong side for sitting around in (not helping the breathlessness either as feel extra squeezed in)however it made the 20 min walk to my pals this morning relatively hobble free and I'm not feeling sore having walked that long. Think I'm going to leave it off if just around the house not doing much but will definately have it on for being out and about. Definately the sexiest thing I own - NOT! - lol at you trying it on in various other places ! I'm also going to try Aqua-natal classes as am concerned that I'm not going to be able to be as active as I'm used to - thought the support of the water might make it a good form of excercise without straining anything further - DH refers to it as "fat floaters"!

On a bump front I think I look quite neat - well the weight all seems to have gone on my bump and bust at least - although at my 28 week appt midwife measured me as being 30 weeks but apparently that's still within normal, so doesn't look likely to be an early arriver, although you never know (hopeful emoticon)!

kate100 · 13/06/2005 18:42

Hi all, thanks for your birthday wishes. I mostly had a good day. The weather was dreadful though and it's always been sunny on my birthday before, so we didn't get our picnic but we went out for lunch and then my mum cooked a birthday dinner which were both lovely. At the birthday dinner, my ever tactful brother pipes up with, 'you're making the sofa sag down too far as you weigh more than me now' He must weigh at least 14 1/2 stone and I'm not that big, not anywhere near. I was devastated as I thought I must be huge, but DH reassures me that I'm not. Then on the way home from mum's I drove into the back of DH's van Of all the people to drive into. I was mortified. I've never had an accident before, still at least I was only going at about 10MPH, so baby is fine, just kicked in protest at the jolt.

Been to the doctor today, who cheerily said, 'ooh that's not a small baby is it!' Now very paranoid about being big. He seems to think that they may induce me eaarly as I have SPD and a history of big babies, so we'll see.

Also been to the orthotist to be fitted with some kind of belt for my pelvis, looks dead sexy, not entirely convinced it will work, we'll see.

Rochwen, SPD affect about one in 35 pregnant women, so it's not common, but not really rare either. Fortuanately, only 8% of women are still affected after the baby is born, which is a small number. If you're concerned about being active, try swimming or aqua aerobics, my physio recommended it, but not breast stroke. I'm concerned about the birth too, how do you get a baby out with your legs together?!

Miaou · 13/06/2005 20:44

Hello everyone. Thanks for your thoughts. I had the scan this afternoon and the sonographer was lovely, he kept making me laugh though so then he couldn't get a good fix on the baby because I was jiggling about! Good news is - everything is normal. He measured the head and the abdomen, then the thigh bone, and the measurements averaged out at 33+4, and I am 33 weeks, so all fine. I knew it was ok, deep down, but still nice to have an expert tell me that! He printed out two pictures of my db, who was (obligingly) fast asleep for the scan - he then did a closeup of the mouth, which has really full lips, and typed on to the picture "Hi mum and dad! Gizza kiss!" Definitely one for the baby album!

I feel so sorry for all you sufferers (SPD, hayfever, lack of sleep etc), you all make me feel guilty for feeling so well!

KMS · 13/06/2005 21:56

Really pleased all is well Miaow.

Twiga & Rochwen- Sympathy on the SPD. hope the tubigrip works for you and the belt for you Kate100. The belt helped a bit with my last pg.
I have had both this time and neither made any difference at all, other than make me very uncomfotable, unable to sit down without undoing it (very ladylike!!) and the baby kicks the belt all the time. (obviously doesn't like it either!) So have given up with them.

physio has signed me off now and just told me to go back if I need to, up until end sept. Not much else she can do other than help out if it doesn't go away after the birth. was back to normal 3 days after DD so fingers crossed for the same this time. If it gets any worse i have to go and see the obsterition.

With regard to giving birth with SPD, I found on all fours the best way last time. Water is also supposed to be good. (I hope I get water this time!) Make sure SPD is all over your notes and that your birth partner knows that you mustn't use stirups etc.
My m/w says, in her experience, Labour seems to be quicker in SPD sufferers as the baby can decend quickly because the pelvis doesn't restrict it. I hope this one isn't any quicker than my last. 2.5hrs form 1st contraction to baby!

Twiga · 13/06/2005 22:44

Yay Miaou, great news - what a nice sonographer!

KMS, thanks for your thoughts although next to you and Kate really don't feel I can complain. Am hoping it won't get too much worse, hope you don't mind if I ask questions as I think of them. Hope the next wee while isn't too uncomfortable and that being signed off lets you get plenty rest!

beachyhead · 14/06/2005 11:26

When do we get to start talking about names? As we know we are having a girl, we should be a bit more ahead, but keep getting stuck. DD wants Madeleine, DS wants Mary Rose ( (he's 4), I'm quite keen on Cleo and dh is keen on Evie (but I think there are quite a lot of Evie's around at the moment!)

Ordered my moses basket mattress on Saturday and now am all done, bar the disposable pants

Miaou · 14/06/2005 12:03

Beachy, we are still discussing names at the moment, but keep changing our minds! We are probably going for Ishbel Hazel for a girl, and possibly Hamish Hugh for a boy, but really dithering over boy's name. We haven't really asked the dds what they want to call the baby, but will probably involve them nearer the time.

I'd quite like to use the gaelic spelling of Ishbel (Iseabail) if it's a girl - but think that it would present too many spelling problems, particularly if she ended up moving to England!

beachyhead · 14/06/2005 13:28

I love those names - my dd was almost Hazel......
