Audrey - in that case, get the shoe-laces just to be on the safe side! You could get it over and done with before the kettle's boiled!

blue76 · 09/08/2009 07:57

PLEASE read this thread - I found it fooking hilarious

audreyraines · 09/08/2009 13:46

Lol, i'm just going to pack my 'birth essentials bag' with a shoe lace and a tea bag. that should get me there.

Who has gone to be measured for nursing bras? Can you please tell me do you take your current size (eg. 36 weeks or as late as you feel you can leave it), make sure it fits on the loosest hook and add a cup size for the milk to come in?

I went for fitting locally yesterday and the girl was hopeless as she was trying to sell me a bra that would fit me now, and I had to convince her that No, actually my boobs will be even more humungous when milk comes in.

I probably need to go into town, but really can't face the idea of a tube ride, so I'm wondering whether to just do a guestimate based on what I tried on yesterday and add a cup size to what fits me now, then order from figleaves. I am so bound to get it wrong aren't I!

ps. if anyone wants to order soemthing from figleaves, use the code TWENTY by wednesday for 20% discount.

LittleCheese · 09/08/2009 14:05

ok I am officially crazy just got back from doing a car boot sale at 36 weeks pregnant, I'm soooooooooooo tired so going to have a nap as DD is at my mums, feel better now I've got rid of all my rubbish now. O and i finished the nursery off at 11.30 last night. I was in bed but couldn't sleep so got up and tidied and put wall stickers up and sorted last few bits to wash out then started to pack my hospital bag. DH thought i had gone mad when I got him out of bed to move a chest of drawers

BabyLady · 09/08/2009 14:07

Audreyr, I went and got my nursing bras last week a couple of days before 37 weeks. I got mine from Rigby & Peller and they don't measure you but just assess you by looking at you. Broadly speaking what you suggest re size is about right. Bra should fit on loosest hook and then you should be able to fit your fist into the top part of the cup. It probably does equate to approx one cup size up. The cups slightly wrinkle when they are too big. Hope that helps.

Ladyem · 09/08/2009 16:05

audrey I got my nursing bras at 37 weeks and at the time I was a 36B and they gave me a 34D (the theory being that after the baby is out your back size will go down, but your cup size will go up by 2 sizes.) As it was I ended up going and getting more in a 34DD as the cup was a bit too small!! I went to M&S and they were really helpful, so may be try there.

Littlecheese can't believe you've done a car boot in this heat!! I did it the easy way and put it all on ebay, collection only!! Got rid of lots of junk without leaving the comfort of my sofa!!

Finally packed all my hospital bags (I have 3!! ) One for labour, one for afterwards and one for the baby!! Just trying to find a pressie for DD from the baby and all is set! Must remember to pack my bag of change, though. Keep forgetting that one!)

Hope you are all bearing up in this heat! Do what I'm doing and have another magnum ice cream!!

audreyraines · 09/08/2009 16:56

thanks babylady and ladyem, think i might still need to go for proper fitting into town, sigh ... ah well.

just got back from having ice cream with ds and now dh has taken him to the park. i actually need to do some ironing to return some clothes a friend lent me. I NEVER iron!!

peachygirl · 09/08/2009 20:13

Audrey Raines are you near a John Lewis. I went to Oxford st last time and had excellent service but, might try Kingston or Bluewater this time as they are easier to get to.

Some of my bras are stll in good nick from last time so I am hoping that they will be the same size.

MumGoneCrazy · 09/08/2009 20:41

I think i've lost my mucus plug, for the past two days ive had an increase in discharge and also in that discharge there's been a big thick blob of an off white stringy snotty like substance, (sorry tmi i know lol) that had a tiny tinge of pink in one bit. Should i phone the midwife in the morning or is it ok to wait til thursday when i have an app with her anyway? Im 33+4.

LittleCheese · 09/08/2009 20:59

ladyem, tell me about it I don't know what I was thinking. I have ebayed loads of stuff though and the stuff I booted was literally junk.

MGC no advice unfortunately I never noticed losing my plug with DD so don't even know what to expect with regards to that. Hope you are ok though let us know what your midwife says when you speak to her.

With regards to nursing bra's have any of you managed to find any that don't look like something my gran would wear or a child's vest but that don't cost the earth. I'm finding that anything remotely attractive also costs a fortune.

SprinkleofStardust · 09/08/2009 21:17

MGC I don't know if it is the mucus plug, but sounds like it might be. At our ante-natal class on Friday she said you didn't need to worry about it if it came out, but just let your MW know at the next check up. To be honest though, I would phone them tomorrow to tell them just to be on the safe side. As a first timer though I would play it safe, I'm sure the second/third timers will be able to help you more.

Re: nursing bras, I'm going to go to Bravissimo as I find them very helpful, I'm 35 weeks now, so will go next week probably as it's quite a way to our nearest one.

Well, we've done loads of cleaning, tidying and sorting today which has provided a lovely sense of satisfaction, however my toes are now like cocktail sausages and I'm absolutely knackered!!! Last week at work though, whoo hoo!! Have made a carrot cake to take in, hope they all like it!!

I'm torn with the sunshine as it's nice to have more summery weather but it is quite uncomfortable, I watched DH sunbathing earlier whilst sitting inside with a glass of iced water!! Enjoy the excuse for ice cream I say (not that I need one, lol!!)

TheTickListQueen · 09/08/2009 21:25

Just quickly catching up.

MGC if I were you I'd call the midwife and run it past her, just because you are still early. Thurs seems a long time to wait for reassurance and she might suggest other things to watch out for.

AprilMeadow · 09/08/2009 21:33

MGC, i wouldnt worry too much. You can lose your plug or parts of your plug a good few weeks before labour begins. Its just your body getting ready for baby. Although, sometimes it is just nice to get reassurance from your mw - even being on my 3rd i still need reassurance on certain things.

35wks tomorrow and will probably start taking the raspberry leaf tablets on the lowest dose to start with.

Going to leave nursing bras until next week, will probably go to M&S to get measured and then have a look around the internet as i really dont want Granny bras this time!!

blue76 · 10/08/2009 00:40

MGC reckon you should phone the mw in the morning. I lost mucus plugs with both DDs - Was like stringy egg whites with a kinda vein going through it.

Having said that, my cervical discharge has changed slightly and has become much like the way you describe, only without the bit of blood.

audreyraines · 10/08/2009 06:13

LittleCheese, I wore these last time. They are quite pretty, and I stumbled across them on sale last night.

If I go into town I can hit John Lewis and Bravissimo in one swoop, so that might be the way to go, but I just know I'm going to be shattered for the rest of the day!

MGC, I would phone midwife too, just for reassurance - that is what they are there for!

StealthPolarBear · 10/08/2009 09:10

No time to catch up, will later but
MGC I've had that mucousy plug a couple of times in the last few days, no pink tinge but it did cross my mind then I thought I was being silly...will keep an eye on this thread! Is it possible to lose the plug with no other symptoms?
Last night I had really painful BHs - loads of them! Started to wonder if anything was happening but then I went to sleep and it's all stopped now No doubt I've got another 7 weeks to wait.

Mw is due to call around at 1pm to discuss home birth - I will ask her about this mucus thing and post back later with her answers.

Weather is crap here today tis that fine rain that soaks you through as well.

blue76 · 10/08/2009 10:50

stayfrosty I love the name Harvey. We had Reuben and Gabriel. I like Jude as well, but dp hates Jude Law so it was a big no from him.

TigerFeet · 10/08/2009 11:09

Enjoy the peace and quiet StayFrosty . Isn't it odd how you long for a bit of time to yourself and then find you don't know what do with it?!

DH and I don't seem to be able to agree on names at all. I can't even draw him into discussion atm . I love Monty, it's my brother's nickname.

The new baby will get DD something for her own (plastic) baby, who is very much loved. Perhaps a new outfit, or a cot or a high chair or similar. DD has already got the baby a snuggly

I have started thinking about packing my hospital bag. This is progress

Last week at work this week... I have today, tomorrow and Thursday to get through then all done until the middle of next year!

Is anyone else in denial about the impending appearance of an actual baby? I am probably completely bonkers I think. Perhaps reality will set in once I've finished work, we've got rid of visitors and I can get on with making sure everything is ready.

audreyraines · 10/08/2009 11:58

phew, just got back from bra fittings at John Lewis and Bravissimo. Didn't buy anything because the stuff they had in my size was limited, but at least they agreed on size which makes me feel better about ordering online.

I've got ds the duplo fire station set which will be a present from baby. I just know he'll love it and i'm quite excited about playing with it myself!

DH came up with a name, which I instantly knew was right. So after putting off the name thing for so so long, it is no longer a problem. Unless our pink baby suddenly turns into a blue one, then we are back to square one. I'm not sharing though until afterwards, sorry!

I am so ready for this baby to come - not in denial anymore. I feel like I can hardly walk around as she feels to be pushing down so much. REady for pregnancy to be over. My next door neighbour (dad of two) commented when I was complaining yesterday that it was logistically easier in rather than out. Only a man could say that when you are 36 weeks pregnant!! Easier for the dad, yes

Gonnabamumma · 10/08/2009 13:15

Hi Ladies, sorry I haven't been around, I can't get on MN some days, just get a blank page - v.irritating. Thank you all for your (righteous) indignation on my behalf with my crapo midwife. I am over it now, but I was really last week nearly all week. Am looking forward to my 36 wk hospital appointment next wed for a final answer as to which was round baby is hanging out. How are you supposed to write a birth plan when they can't even tell you which way round it is? And for 2nd timers - is there any point in a birth plan at all??

I have grown so much in the last few days - look like I have a beach ball up my top. Did the toilet paper thing last night am up to 10 sheets, scary that I have another 5 weeks to go.

I am the only person who hasn't had any boob leakage? I am getting a bit concerned as they haven't got any bigger through the pregnancy, so am going to put off bra shopping for another couple of weeks, to see if they start to change.

Last week at work this week (double yay!) really can't be arsed , have a small mountain of filing to do before Friday. Am on the downward slope!

Thusnelda · 10/08/2009 13:40

My breasts haven't grown either. If anything they've become a little droopy. I have been wearing these little extender bits because nobody seems to have bras my size which is 42C or 44B or thereabouts now. Anything above 38 seems to start in DD. I'm definitely not buying any nursing bras yet. No sign of leakage yet either.

Oh, and my doctor wasn't quite sure whether it was the head down there either. Definitely not engaged yet so there's still plenty of room for manoevering, 34+1 today.

TigerFeet · 10/08/2009 14:03

My breasts haven't grown at all, good job really as I'm already a J cup.

Thanks to hyperemesis I'm actually 1.5 stone lighter than I was at conception, so norks have stayed the same, bump has grown but the rest of me has got somewhat smaller.

No leakage here either. I didn't have any with dd until my milk came in when she was about 2 or 3 days old, then out it came in bucketloads

I will do a birth plan at some point [head in sand emoticon required] as I can't lie flat on my back, it's painful and my blood pressure plummets and I go all woozy. I want to make that plain to anyone who is involved in my care during labour. I did one for dd and I think it was worth it, although my plans weren't set in stone and if I'd had to deviate from them then I wouldn't really have had a problem. The biggest thing was that I put I didn't want an epidural unless absolutely necessary, so when I was screaming "I want a fucking epidural NOW" the midwife talked me out of it. I was pleased not to have had it in the end, I (sort of) coped well enough without.
