Was having a big moan to DH tonight about how tired, sore, achy I was, 'Isn't there anything about pregnancy that doesn't hurt'? - 'Well yes' he says, 'baba's love' Ahhh! He's the best!

Does anyone have a nickname for the baby that might well 'stick' once they are born? Am thinking that this lo is going to be stuck with the baba bach (small baby) that DH has named him! Although he also calls me mammy mawr (big mummy) which I'm hoping doesn't stick! lol!

LizLemon · 27/07/2009 20:29

Planning a homebirth too but thinking I'll pack bags anyway, just in case and so I know I've got everything. The page on here about what to pack was useful I thought but would love to see more lists. I like lists.

I call the baby Fitz. Dh doesn't much like it as a name, and i'm not sure I'd go for it really, but I can see it sticking

LittleCheese · 27/07/2009 20:30

daffodilli my dd calls our baby "bubble" and dh is convinced she will always call him/her this

peachygirl · 27/07/2009 20:35

I think my list is from my NCT class

I only took one bag. A reasonably sized holdall. The main reason for this was that Dh doesn't drive and so I travelled in a taxi (and will do so this time too) and therefore I couldn't take too much luggage.

This time we may pack DH a bag, especially if I have a VBAC and we will take our car seat.

peachygirl · 27/07/2009 20:38

OH yes and I did not take everything on the list, I highlighted what I felt were the most important things.

I hope everyone else will add to it. It is by no means the definitive list, but TBH what you need to pack is common sense.

BTW it should say hair clip and should also have
Big pants, you could take disposable ones if you like.

daffodilli · 27/07/2009 21:13

'Tis a good list peachygirl thanks! Will have to cross ref stuff I've got packed to check I'm not taking things I wont need!

TigerFeet · 27/07/2009 21:16

Oooh fab list

I have done this before but it was over 5 years ago now, coupled with pg brain I had no hope of remembering everything

bigbang · 27/07/2009 21:20

Ooo yes lists! I like lists. A hairband is a must for me, a full head one iyswim, the feeling of bits of hair on my face drove me insane I had it all scraped back last time. Will pack my bag around 37 weeks I expect. WRT breastfeeding clothes, I would recommend getting a couple of vests with clips so you can pop one on under whatever 'normal' top you are wearing so you always have tummy coverage. This is what I did last time anyway!

Have had a couple of emails about a London meet up so there will be at least three of us! Will give it another couple of days incase anyone else wants to come before making a plan.

mummyhill sorry you are all suffering, hope you get better soon.

Sent off my ou couse assesment last night- feels great having it finished at last! Just the driving test to go and then I will be ready for this baby.

TigerFeet · 27/07/2009 21:22

I'm fond of a list too bigbang, but you have to admit that a spreadsheet is far better

bigbang · 27/07/2009 21:28

Oh yes, I meant to say I would pack a 'hospital' bag even if you plan a homebirth. If you do need transferring you have everything ready, and if you don't go in then the stuff is all together so dp/dh isn't running around trying to find everything while you are incapacitated.

And thought I would recommend watching a film called 'The Business of Being Born'. Someone was talking about it on another thread so I downloaded it and its really interesting. Its all about the USA and attitudes to birth there (hardly anyone sees a midwife!) but most of the stuff is relevant to all women. Quite a lot about the 'fear' around childbirth and things, and a few clips of different births and what not. I enjoyed it anyway

StealthPolarBear · 28/07/2009 10:54

Hi everyone
Sorry not been around for ages - have done a very quick catch up
ladylush sorry you had such a stressful time Glad your dd is doing well, do you have any idea when she will be discharged?
As for her name, sorry to hear you have people reading your posts!! Say as much or as little as you want. If you think people are searching then you could put it in backwards or with a load of spaces / line breaks. If they are reading this thread then better not do anything.

pebblebeach · 28/07/2009 11:54

Tigerfeet - I love an spreadsheet too, DH and I are a bit obsessed with them

Bigbang - that film is great, I sobbed and sobbed at it when I watched it before DD was born, there as some really beautiful birth moments. It's interesting in the US, midwives were effectively banned/outlawed by the 1920's I think and Dr's and special nurses took over.

Only 7.5 days of work left...

BabyLady · 28/07/2009 16:01

Hi everyone, hope all is well. I am feeling ENORMOUS. Poor baby keeps getting hiccoughs bless it. I keep trying to rub where I think it's back might be. It's probably nowhere near!

2 more days in the office..wooohooo. I am working from home tomorrow and then just gotta hang in until Friday. Can't take the tube any more so I am so grateful to be finishing.

Will be going out on Monday to sort out bag for hospital and pick up maternity bras and the like as I am now paranoid about baby coming early.

Also in a bit of a quandry as to when to go and get waxing done. I am not keen on lots of people staring at a messy ladygarden for hours and there is no way I can make it down there now. If I get it done too early then it will be growing back but if I wait too long I might miss out all together?? Was thinking maybe at 38 weeks??

mrsradders · 28/07/2009 16:30

hello hope everyone is ok, i'm new to posting on the sept thread, i have been hiding out on babynames (lol slightly obsessed).

I'm due either 23rd august (my dates) or 10th sept (scan dates) this is DD3.

xxxx

audreyraines · 28/07/2009 16:34

Hi everyone, it really is hte time for making plans now isn't it!

We had our scan today to check the placenta - and it is fine, it has completely moved out of the way and is sitting higher than the baby's head. So we are all systems go for the homebirth now.

I will also pack a hospital/essentials bag just in case I have to go in. I didn't do it last time, I think I was meaning to, but then ds arrived at 38 weeks.

I am also in a waxing and nursing bra fitting quandry. I might do it at 38 weeks, but a bit paranoid baby will choose to arrive by then!

TigerFeet · 28/07/2009 16:50

I think all you waxers are incredibly brave . I'll go for an all over short trim I think, with the aid of a ladyshave and a mirror. I don't do pain (remind me again what is coming in approx 6 weeeks time!)

We now have carseat and buggy sorted, but nowhere yet for the baby to sleep. There is a moses basket in the attic, hopefully it's still in decent condition. We have visitors for the next three weeks, assorted relatives are staying to look after dd during the school holidays, so once I finish work we'll get everything down as the spare room will be empty again. Fingers crossed it's all still usable!

I will need to launder all the babygros, vests and so forth, how long before EDD should I do that do you think?

nitnat84 · 28/07/2009 17:10

Hi everyone. Well hubby decorated the nursery yesterday and I love it. Had my first antenatal class today and it was all on the stages of labour. Feel fairly informed now. The message was basically to stay at home until the last minute and let nature do its thing and relax! We will see hey!?!

audreyraines · 28/07/2009 17:10

Tigerfeet, I'm doing all the washing now and trying to get everything sorted - I've got 6 weeks to go, but wanted to get everything mostly done by 36 weeks just in case (and also because i just want to sit and drink tea for the last few weeks!)

StealthPolarBear · 28/07/2009 19:24

Hi Mrsa - welcome!
I'm also doing washing now, as want to get thing sorted and until I do they're just hanging around. Things like the ruffley bits on the moses basket etc and I want it all set up and looking lovely!
I have been going through DS's old stuff today and washing it, and when I opened the box I was so amazed by all the tiny stuff - then I realised it was 6-9months . I found newborn coat / snowsuit / sleeping bags but it looks as though vests and sleepsuits are still in the loft.
TF - I think if you don't remember from last time then probably best that way I agree I'm going for a short back and sides!!
Anyone else having knitting needle up the fanjo (KNUF) moments? I remember them from last time but not this early! What causes them??

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 28/07/2009 19:25

Well that was an unfortunate and incorrect shortening of mrsradders name - sorry

OP posts:
peachygirl · 28/07/2009 20:14

Glad people are finding the list useful. I did leave a few things off, for example it suggested we might like to take our own birthing stools in! We all have those at home just hanging around.

I will be washing in a couple of weeks. I have earmarked a day for DH to go in the attic while DD is in nursery and want to get it all done before I go back to work when I will be 36 weeks.
I was wondering which ages to get out newborn and 0 to 3 months I think. There is also the moses basket liner I would like to freshen up and the car seat and bouncy chair covers.
It had better be sunny then I can get them all dry on the line.

Welcome Mrs radders.

I've had the fanjo pain recently. I've just said to DH that although the midwife said baby was head down it is in a very similar position to DD who I'm almost sure was breech from at least 34 weeks if not earlier. The baby is moving but again no big flip flop movements and has quietened down in the last few days... hmm

I shall trim and then if I know I'm having a section will book in for a wax probably at 38 weeks. I hope the beauty therapist who waxed me when I was pregnant with DD still works at the salon as I trust her. I gave up waxing due to credit crunch savings so haven't been for a long time.

StealthPolarBear · 28/07/2009 20:49

Imeant to say thatnks for the list as well - haven't packed yet but started seriously thinking about it

OP posts:
Minshu · 28/07/2009 21:46

Glad that the placenta has moved, audreyraines.

I thought I read on here that some salons don't wax after a certain point in pregnancy? If I can, I might get it done at about 38 weeks - but may also have a go with the razor and a mirror, as I've been blessed with long arms .

The cupboard building project is now complete so we're ready to start filling it with assorted junk (my shoes, DP's record collection, etc) when the paint is fully dry. Then we'll be able to gut the spare room, decorate it, get a new carpet, cot and wardrobe. Oh - that sounds like a lot .

Thanks for all the hospital lists - I'm starting to accumulate "stuff", but glad I still have a few more weeks.

I have one more four day week, then 3 three day weeks left at work after this week. There's a lot of change going on at the moment - mostly negative. Looks like there's going to be some forced restructuring to be handled for my team, on top of me trying to handover my position. So, the idea of a stress-free, quiet August is slipping away. And, there are other things we're being asked to do, which feels much like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Poor DP works in the same place, so the stress there will continue for him. Should be grateful to have jobs at all, at the moment, though.

Getting more tired - and BH coming more often, making my entire middle feel tired, iyswim. Baby has been constantly on the move today - a welcome distraction from the crap in the office (especially when I get a foot to play with).

Antenatal classes start next week for me. I cry at anything to do with newborn babies at the moment, so will have to remember tissues

LittleCheese · 28/07/2009 22:16

i also love lists and spreadsheets. It drives DH up the wall. He says because usually my lists involve him spending money hehe.

I'm also terrible for budgeting and look at my internet banking and spreadsheet every day. Perhaps I'm a little obsessive but finances have definately improved since I look at every penny spent now.

I have made my hospital bag list and looking at it ill need a bigger bag, i have made sure i have everything i need just not packed it yet.

Going to finish babies room at the weekend and hopefully buy some under cot storage then i can get everything washed when i have somewhere to put it rather than just on the floor.

I think i might go for a wax, shop for nursing clothes/bra's at 37 weeks.

LittleCheese · 28/07/2009 22:17

gosh just read my post back and cant believe how much i ramble and its all about me...sorry hope you are all well
