Hi everyone Can't believe we could have our first baby in 4ish weeks

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
blinder · 26/07/2009 19:36

TBH Babylady I think my whole midwifery unit is pretty poor at the moment. They are all overworked as half their staff are on sick, which I assume has to do with moral. Bit worrying!

We got the entire Loola travel system today second hand, barely used for £150 on ebay. After that success I bizarrely went through every item of clothing I possess, getting rid of unwanted stuff and storing non-maternity summer clothes in vacuum bags to be stored in the attic until next summer. I have a LOT more bras than I thought! None of them fit properly though .

It's a specific house that may be going cheap. But it mostly depends on whether my mortgage co. (Halifax) will lend me the cash to buy the other house, before I sell the current one. Plus, me and DP are self-employed so it's by no means a cert.

LizLemon - great idea to hire movers!

nitnat84 · 26/07/2009 19:38

Hello All,
LadyLush- so glad that all is ok with you and the baby.
33 weeks tomo- hope this baby is not late. Can't face the idea of another 8/9 weeks. Have my first antenatal class on Tuesday. Have no idea what to expect.

cautiousmumtobe · 26/07/2009 19:39

Ladylush - sorry you had such a stressful and traumatic time. Hope you and the little one recover as quickly as possible and that you get her home safely and soon.

On the mw care front, mine have been pretty good and I have had really regular appointments but partly due to my history I think. With DD, I only had dating scan and a 20 week scan and then the scheduled mw appointments which seemed to be weeks apart. But in saying that, the mw has measured me for the last two appointments and told me that the measurement is fine (altho don't know what it is!).

Last week of work for me too. I guess I better start thinking about sorting out the nursery again and actually getting ready for this baby. Definitely recommend a cheap nightshirt for labour which then gets put in the bin! Also, I bought cheap knickers aswell as couldn't stand the thought of paper ones. The whole lot went into the bin afterwards.

On the feeding bra front, I went at about 36 weeks last time to get fitted. Be prepared to be scared as they add on a cup size or so for when your milk comes in! Can't believe I'm going to have to think about packing a bag soon.

nitnat84 · 26/07/2009 19:59

When do they recommend packing your bag then?

daffodilli · 26/07/2009 20:21

Bag packing - due to a very organised DH and people constantly telling me that as I have a very hard small bump, he will be early, 'no space in there is there love' said an old lady on the bus! () my bag is mostly packed already! Kind of settling seeing it sitting there . Although if it was left to me I'd be grabbing the nearest things to hand en route to the hospital!

peachygirl · 26/07/2009 20:23

nitnat ususally they advise you to pack your bag from 36 weeks but there is no reason why you shouldn't pack it before if you want. I have found my list from last time if you want me to post it

All I have done so far is shove a few essentials in a backpack that can be grabbed as we leave the house.

I did this last time as I was very paranoid about having an early baby (my mum had lots of problems)I'm much more relaxed about it this time but have still done my minor advanced prep. I've got ages to go too.
I will pack my proper bag at the beginning of September. As I'm working until 38 weeks I also thought I might do a phone number card for the school secretary so if something happened at work (What a thought!!) She could phone the relevant people quickly

Bigbang I have emailed you.

Ladylush I hope your DD will be out of hospital soon, one of my friends had twins at 30 weeks and they were in til they reached about 5lbs. They turned a year a few weeks ago and are now lovely bonny babies.

I'm feeling a bit down today. Dh had an email about this week probably being the week he will find out about redundancy - which we knew anyway, but it made it all very real. I have realised If I go very overdue I could be returning to work full time leaving him with a very tiny baby 6-7 weeks old.
Now I'm sure they wouldn't let me go very overdue because of the previous section but its all a bit much.

I have to try to stay positive for him and keep everything going for DD (we are potty training too at the moment)and keep on top of the housework.

Sorry, moan, moan, moan.

PeppermintCream · 26/07/2009 20:43

LadyLush thank you for posting your birth story, so pleased that it had a happy outcome. I hope that your DS will get to meet his new sister soon.

peachygirl don't want to alarm you but, they let me go over due last time (despite having had a previous section) DS was born ten days late. You may wish to speak to your midwife for some advice about what may happen in your area.

I've got three more weeks left at work, I can't wait to finish now. I'm still anaemic, still beng sick and just want to rest. Oh, well it will all be worth it when I hold my new baby.

LittleCheese · 26/07/2009 21:01

Ladylush sorry to hear the birth wasn't ideal but so glad the outcome was good, hope you DD will be home soon, it must be hard having to travel to hospital everyday. What have you called her?

babylady, I'm the same here finished getting last of baby things this weekend so need to get myself sorted now. I have bought some cheap nighties from Asda and cheap knickers. Have order the new pads for the tens machine and needed a new bra so went for a nursing one as i thought if it doesn't fit when my milk comes in its not the end of the world but I may as well try rather than buy a normal bra for only 6/7 weeks.

Has anyone bought clothes for breast feeding once baby arrives? I didn't bf dd so im not sure what i need to be getting for post birth.

ladylush · 26/07/2009 21:42

Can anyone think of a way I can let you know her name without posting on mumsnet - there's a lot of stuff on here that I wouldn't want RL people to read iyswim (not to do with pregnancy but other stuff).

ladylush · 26/07/2009 21:44

People would be identify me by her name iyswim

peachygirl · 26/07/2009 21:47

How about a code lady lush a=b b=c etc which you only post on here.

Thanks peppermintcream. I see the consultant this week so will discuss this with him.

MumGoneCrazy · 26/07/2009 21:55

namechange to her name come in here leave a coded msg so we can figure out its you then name change back

nitnat84 · 26/07/2009 22:03

peachygirl- that would be fab! Thanks x

mummyhill · 27/07/2009 09:13

no nesting here feel to ill. both dc and I have flu.

blue76 · 27/07/2009 11:30

Ladylush I'm sorry to hear you had a traumatic time. Glad to hear she's doing well. I hope you are too. You could slip in a letter each time you post?? I put my real name on here a couple of weeks ago so people could add on fb if they wanted - I've got loads of colleagues on there so I'm used to having to be fairly discreet!

Littlecheese I never bothered buying clothes for bfing. I don't like the front-opening tops as I'm a bit of a prude . Just used to pull my top up, feeding bra down and a blanket or something over my tummy. Felt more discreet that way and I didn't care where I bf! Debenhams had some lovely bf bras in their sale. Reduced from £18 to £2.

We've had to come home from the camping trip [left the tent at the site]. My cold has turned into sinusitis and a chesty cough. Going back on Fri

LJ29 · 27/07/2009 11:39

Blue you have my symapthies I have just got over sinisitis but the cough is still lingering. I am absolutely exhausted.

Ladylush could you put her name in your profile for us to access?

Is anyone else getting really hot hands? Mine feel like they're on fire.

FairySparkles · 27/07/2009 11:40

.... mmmm, just scoffing a tesco's jam donut while I post....

oooo ladylush - a code sounds fun!!

Mumgonecrazy and blinder - I'm in Barry (about 10mins from J33) - I work wed & thurs (not finishing till sept) but any other day suits me just fine??

mummyhill - poor you , you have my sympathies; me and dd have woken up full of cold this morning but flu ain't fun at all!!

I've just bought new pj's and travel toiletries ready for my hospital bag - not actaully packed anything yet tho; one major piece of advice from me tho is to have 2 bags - one for labour with nightie, toiletries, clothes for dp, food&drinks etc, and 1 outfit for bubs - then an afterwards bag with pj's, breastpads and nursing bra's etc, more outfits for bubs, pads, nappies etc.. That way you aren't carting one mahoosive bag into hospital and fannying around with stuff you don't need at the time (leave the 'afterwards' bag in the car and dp can swap them over once lo is here)
also, apart form the obvious things to pack; I reccommend lib balm, cos gas and air totally dries your mouth out and hair bands to keep your hair away from your face and a flannel for dp to mop your sweaty brow!

LJ29 · 27/07/2009 11:43

Cross posted with FS but I absolutely agree about the bags. I have done this on both my previous labours and it worked really well. I know a lot of people take a bag for baby and a bag for them but I think DH would just get in a mess with it and it does mean carrying far too much stuff with you.

FairySparkles · 27/07/2009 11:43

blue and LJ - cross posted; sorry your poorly too blue and had to come home early!! - seems to be alot of it going around

LJ - I get really hot feet??

mummyhill · 27/07/2009 11:57

I apparently have to send dh on a 5 mile journey to collect tamiflu for the kids and relenza for me due to my asthma and hypothyroid!

pebblebeach · 27/07/2009 12:20

Oh mummyhill - that sounds like horrible, hope you feel better soon.

Sorry LJ no hot anything here, in fact I feel rather chilly generally - aren't pg suppose to completely melt in summer?!

Am hoping for a homebirth here - but have started thinking about packing/collecting everything needed together just in case I decide/need to transfer.

Ladylush - hope your little girl is doing well, thanks for posting your bs - take care of yourselves. And just another random idea re baby's name.... find a mention of it on some random website and post link?! Or you could CAT (mumsnet private msg feature) us, but not sure if you can CAT multiple members at once... anyone else know?

Blue - hope you feel better soon, that doesn't sounds like a fun holiday.

And littlecheese - my bf clothing tip... pull normal top up and have a belly band/strappy top (with straps down IYSWIM) underneath that you can pull down, therefore keeping flesh exposure to a minimum, that way I could use my normal wardrobe bar the really tight stuff. Having said that I have just bought this bf vest top, highly recommended my sis for nighttime when you don't want to have to wear a bra... didn't get any special clothing other than bras last time.

pebblebeach · 27/07/2009 12:23

awful typos sorry! really must proof read....

Just another tip for you ladies with trousers that fall down, my midwife gave me a hip support belt... basically large velcro band to go round my hips which ache lots... added bonus that it keeps my trousers up better than anything else I have tried

mumtobe23 · 27/07/2009 15:32

Hi everyone, sorry to hear some of you & your LO's are suffering with colds/flu not nice & I hope you get better soon.

Just got back from midwife appointment - all good except i turned up on the wrong day... My appointment was actually booked for this Wednesday not today (no idea how i got confused) but lovely midwife managed to fit me in
I was very embarrassed though, I'd even checked the date this morning! My baby brain is truly awful right now its actually scaring me a little

Hope everyone is feeling as good as can be for this final stretch, I'm a little tired as I'm anaemic but other then that all's well.

TigerFeet · 27/07/2009 15:42

Ladylush, sorry you had such an awful time but good to hear that dd is doing well. Congratulations again . BTW, if you set your profile so that it's not visible to all MNers, you can add certain MNers to your friends list and they are the only ones who can see your profile. You can pop names etc on there, then take them off after a few days

peachygirl · 27/07/2009 18:21

I'll get my list on tonight a bit later when I'm sitting in front of the telly.
