Yeah for scans Pavlov and Koumak!

I've been soooo busy with work working every night until 10.30pm and DH too - who is that man again? He's promised to try to come home by 7.30pm tonight. He's going to work from home tomorrow and go into the office on Sunday. Poor chap. Then he's got one more busy week and next weekend and hopefully he'll be back to normal after that. I hope so because I'm going on holiday 8-11 July without him and the DSs so he's got to take time off work and take the DSs to school and back, etc, do the cleaning, washing, make packed lunches, and the like. My mum is 70 on 11 July so is taking me, my sister and brother away for four days to Devon. We haven't been on holiday together like that since I was nine years old!!!! It'll be interesting. I wonder whether me, my sister and brother revert to how we used to be as children. It'll be interesting. I can't wait though for a break - it is much needed.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 26/06/2009 18:41

Koumak YEY congratulations! A girl!!!!! Girls are fantastic. DD is the best best in the world. And I am glad we have a boy now as I just do not think another girl could be like her and would not want her to be. I would have been happy with a girl though, but a boy is fab. Are you pleased!

usi yes I was concerned that things were not right, but baby is perfectly healthy {phew}

tamlin its really annoying when people say 'oh you are having a girl' or 'it must be a boy', er now I can say, not a jot of it is true. I had severe sickness with a girl, and now with a boy - its just worse this time!

Fruitpastels · 26/06/2009 19:40

Lovely to hear your news Pavlov & Koumak!

Had my scan today! Baby appears well and all the bits in the right place. We didn't find out the sex. DH was happy enough to find out but agreed to wait for the surprise . Baby was camera shy and was curled up fast asleep. I had to jog about a bit and cough. Baby was very active this morning so I think it was rather tired for the scan.

BeckyBendyLegs · 26/06/2009 19:53

I've just asked the DSs what they think the baby is. They both said a girl but then DS2 said: 'Oh no, we don't have any dolls! She'll have to play with trains!'

Fruitpastels yeah on scan! Glad I'm not the only one staying in the dark about the sex We'll just have to keep guessing! Poor baby being asleep for it's moment of glory! Mine was active during my scan banging its feet on my bladder.

DH has just arrived home. Yeah! I think a film, pizza, a nice glass of orange juice and a night on the sofa are in order tonight.

The sickness thing seems just random to me. I've just had it steadily worse with each pregnancy - not a sniff of nausea with DS1 (I didn't realise how lucky I was at the time!).

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 26/06/2009 19:57

Fruitpastels - how restrained of you re the sex of the baby, I did not want to know, DH did, and my curiosity got the better of me . I am glad it went well and at you having to jog about with a full bladder!

BeckyBendyLegs · 26/06/2009 20:16

DH makes me laugh! I just said to him 'right, let's choose a film to watch' and he said 'errr, actually I'm going to have to eat tea and then bla bla bla upgrade bla bla PCs from here at work bla bla bla'. I don't mind, means I can watch Big Brother!

Fruitpastels · 26/06/2009 20:25

Pavlov I found it hard drinking the pint of water without gagging near the end. I did find the scan a little uncomfortable as the baby is so low down and the sonographer had to dig about a bit. I felt very restrained re the sex. I nearly caved in!

Tiredness has been bad this week. I'm going back on my Spatone tomorrow in the hope that it picks me up a bit.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 26/06/2009 21:17

The sonographer said as soon as we were done 'I just need to update your notes, so why don't you nip to the toilet and I will bring them out to you' 'do I have a full bladder then?' 'yes, very' she said

Laugs · 26/06/2009 21:38

Congrats for all the scans, pavlov, koumak and fruitpastels! So pleased all your babies are doing well. Lovely scan pics Koumak!

Do we need to have a full bladder for the 20 week scan then? I'll have to remember that. Mine's not for ages yet.

hobnob You can get Tayto crisps in Home Bargains, if you have one? It might just be a cheapo shop you get up north though - haven't seen it elsewhere. I'd rather find a supplier for Veda bread. Yum.

We're having a nice time at my mum and dad's. Had the most almighty rain today, and I was thinking of DH slipping and sliding around at Glasto! My parents have gone out for the evening and I just spent about an hour putting DD to bed as it's still a bit strange for her. In the end I just ignored her and started reading Obama's Dreams From My Father, which I'm quite enjoying, so just nipped downstairs for a sandwich and I'm going back to bed to read.

BBL It sounds like a pain your DH (and you) having so much work on, but at least the end is in sight. Your family holiday should be fun! ...Or interesting, at least!

Still not feeling much movement here - anyone else? I am 18 weeks.

scarlotti · 26/06/2009 22:03

Hi all, just marking the the thread.

Congrats on all the great scan news

hobnob57 · 26/06/2009 22:33

I was told by a songrapher that I could go to the loo right before my 20 week scan . Bubs is so far up the tummy it's not an issue.

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/06/2009 09:13

I woke up this morning to find a note by my side of the bed 'gone to the office to switch on some PCs'. Sigh!

The DSs and I have just had egg butties for breakfast. Yum.

ursigurke · 27/06/2009 09:33

Poor you, BBL. Just concentrate on your holidays.
On Tuesday morning my husband suggested a weekend trip to Oxford (one of the many places we still haven't visited) and even wanted to book a hotel for one night. On Tuesday evening he explained me with a very long story that he had the great opportunity to buy some great tickets for a cheaper price for Wimbledon for today.... Apparently, I then was supposed to say something... Anyway, such a great day and I have to spend it alone because he is so obsessed with sports. When we got married I only knew about that football problem.
And hobnob, I've finally tried "you". Delicious. Put you on my longer getting list of favourite biscuits.

beepbeep · 27/06/2009 10:05

Morning!!

We had a such a busy day yesterday and am now shattered!! Sorted wills in the morning (very exciting?!) then went to get valuation on car (after washing and cleaning it of raisins and god knows what else that was stuck t the back seat?!) and ended up buying a brand new car!!!! never had a new new car before so very excited, got an smax to fit the 3 car seats, and DG insisted on getting the body kit on it to make it look sporty! getting it in september on the new plate.

Then got phone call from friends to say they had tickets for Russell Howard but couldn't make it anddid we want them? so went to that, was bloomin hilarious, then out for a quick meal. Was really good night as hadn't been out for so long, but didn't get back til midnight, then DS woke and didn't settle til nearly 2 and DD was up at 5.30 - nice!!

Got school fete this morning (had to bake cakes!) then u to birmingham tonight for a friend's 40th birthday meal, going to be SOOOO shattered tomorrow!

I don't think the drinking water thin is much of an issue before the 20 wk scan, it's the early one when it's important due to the lowness of the baby. in the past i've drunk so much i've been in pain when they touched my stomach!!

Trikken · 27/06/2009 10:10

at our hospital they sent us letters saying we didnt need to have a full bladder for the 20 week scan. I was so relieved cos i always found that hard.

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/06/2009 10:27

Urisgurke I hope you make it to Oxford some other time - I loved living there - great city I might be going on 23 July just for the day to a book launch do at Oxford Uni Press. Can't you go to Wimbledon with your DH? I'd love to go one day - my sister and brother-in-law go every year.

Yeah Beepbeep on the new car!!! How lovely! I bet you can't wait to drive it.

Who is Russell Howard? I need to make some cakes for DS1's school fete on Saturday next week. I'm going to be facepainting all day. Snag: I've never done it before! Anyone done facepainting? Is it easy? I have A level art if that will help me!!!!

I was told also not to have a full bladder for 20-week scan so I just had a normally full one - ie I needed a wee because I hadn't been for about an hour.

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/06/2009 10:29

We're sitting here listening to Boney M greatest hits - childhood memories abound for me! The DSs like 'Rivers of Babylon' best.

katster37 · 27/06/2009 10:47

Becky sorry you are alone again on a Saturday, work is just not fun is it. Will DH be back for some of the day?

Usigurke I know it's not funny for you, but am laughing a tiny bit as your DH sounds exactly like mine.... Last week he had somehow got some tickets to go to the warm up day at Silverstone for the grandprix, and he has told me that even though we are meant to be meeting my uncle today at 5pm who is in London from Newcastle for the day, he really wants to be back home for 4.30 so he can watch Andy Murray Typical, I think... Although I can't really complain as I have already got a babygro set from our football team's club shop!

BeepBeep your evening sounds lovely. We are going to see Russell Howard in August for DH's birthday. Was he good?

I didn't need a full bladder for the 12 week scan even... Although I did have one, as I seem to have one most of the time. In fact, has anyone noticed this getting worse? I am now on 2 wees in the night, whereas before it was just the one. Previously, I had NEVER been a 'get up for a wee in the night' person! Maybe our bodies training us for sleepless nights to come!

katster37 · 27/06/2009 10:59

PS Im just ordering some books for my hols off Amazon - any suggestions? I've ordered Call the Midwife. I generally like authors like Margaret Atwood, Angela Carter, Liz Jensen, Carol Shields, actually most things! Anything anyone has enjoyed recently that I should get? I feel a bit out of the loop lately...

BeckyBendyLegs · 27/06/2009 11:30

I've just read a really good Carol Shields, can't reember the title but about a woman whose daughter decides to be homeless - fantastic book! Angela Carter The Toy Shop is brill too - have you read that? Have you read The Time Traveller's Wife - not that recent now but I loved it.

So who is Russell Howard?

pinkfizzle · 27/06/2009 12:45

just lurking, hope those lucky enough to get out and about enjoy the weather and/or the music across the uk at glastonbury or hyde park or where ever.

southernbelle77 · 27/06/2009 14:30

Congratulations on all the positive scans! Congrats on boys and girls, and for those of you being restrained and not finding out! I now sort of don't want to know, but after the sonographer told us what she thinks it is at the 12 week scan I think I have to find out to know if she was right or not!!

DH and dd have gone to the farm today so I have been shopping, doing washing and supposed to be cleaning but I'm sat here just having eaten lunch and watching the tennis!! It's too hot for me to be outside today! We have dd's birthday party tomorrow with 18, 5 year olds which will be interesting!! Have sorted out her cake (note to self to remember to finsih off the icing in the morning) and filled the pinata that she was so insistent on having!!

Right, off to vacumm so it looks like I have been busy!!!

beepbeep · 27/06/2009 14:32

Katster - he was brilliant. Didn't really know who he was before we went (vaguely recognised his face!) but he was very good, as was his warm up act. looked at getting tickets for my bro for leter in the year, but his whole tour is sold out.

BeckBL - he does mock of the week and never mind the buzzcocks amongst other things. You're right about the car - cannot wait, spending all time driving looking for similar cars and telling DH "that's what it'll look like"

katster37 · 27/06/2009 17:44

Oooo southernbelle I didn't know your sonographer had told you what she thought your baby was at the 12 week scan!! Are you going to tell us? The sonograpger who told us we are having a boy was at 13+3, so probably more accurate than at 12 weeks, but not that much. Anyway, I am also intrigued to find out if he was correct! I think he probably was, and in my head, I am having a baby boy but we will see. He is incredibly wriggly, btw - I hope this is normal. It seems every time I sit down, he wakes up and has a good dance!
Just had a lovely day - went for coffee and breakfast (I can finally stomach coffee again - decaf of course!!) then bought 2 dresses to be worn over leggings from Topshop maternity. Now come back with yummy food and alcohol free beer and watching tennis+Glasto! Yay!
BBL hmm that Carol Shields doesn't ring a bell - will have a look on Amazon. Yes, read The Magic Toyshop - love it. Wrote my MA dissertation on largely on it.
BeepBeep glad Russell was good, am looking fwd to DH's birthday! Although I have no idea what to get him... (DH, not Russell)

sleeplessinthecity · 27/06/2009 18:20

I love Boney M!!!!! another childhood fav..RA RA RASPUTIN!!! BBL hope your DH stops working so hard..

Just spent a lovely day in a neighbours pool with DD..but now we're both shattered.. DH just spent the afternoon watching the rugby and drinking beer with the neighbours DH!!!..Its glorious here..so HOT
