Oops, that should have been totsbots!!

ErikaMaye · 21/07/2009 14:51

Thank you ladies I'll mention it to my MW when she comes round in a few weeks.

I didn't know about the chemicals, although that's definitely a plus point I really want to BF for the closeness and wanting to bond, but if its too difficult, and too painful, then I won't have a problem with bottle feeding.

Scarlotti I've banned myself from ebay, its just way too much fun!!

tigger32 · 21/07/2009 15:36

Hello everyone!
I've tried to catch up on your chatter over the past few days, but sorry if i've missed something important!

We've had a lovely time camping although very wet and windy Friday night. I had bleeding again whilst we were away, but it seemed to calm down after a day.

I'm feeling very sorry for my friend at the minute, she is 27 weeks and has placenta previa (sp?), she had bleeding last week and was admitted to hospital. they have now told her she must stay in until delivery!

Erika I have used the Avent hand breast pump and the Medela battery powdered, both have been good but the battery powdered was much faster. (although quite noisy)

Anyone who wants to read up on Breast feeding, Mother and Baby magazine has a great article this month, it includes a step by step guide and has a question and answers page.

Hope everyone who is feeling poorly starts to feel better soon.

Congratulations on all the good scan results!

ErikaMaye · 21/07/2009 16:19

Thanks Tigger Glad you enjoyed yourself, and I hope your friend has an easy time in hospital.

I've meant to ask - has anyone had painful stretch marks? I have purple lines and bumps appearing in mine, and they're so painful I'm having to wear high waisted trousers, which is really uncomfortable in itself...

BeckyBendyLegs · 21/07/2009 17:22

Day two of the school holidays - we're bored already!

Fruitpastels · 21/07/2009 17:26

Erika I read that around this time stretchmarks can appear. I was lucky with DS and got away with them, hoping the same happens with this pg. I get very dry skin on my bump when pg and it gets very sore if I don't apply cream. I'm a huge fan of Bio Oil. I use it twice a day all over and put a few drops in the bath. It may help the discomfort you're feeling. Also, I've had to change my washing powder to a non bio as I kept getting itchy all over and this has stopped since changing over.

Fruitpastels · 21/07/2009 17:28

Can join you on that one BBL This weather isn't good when you have kids to entertain!

beepbeep · 21/07/2009 17:35

Re breastpumps - I also used the medula electric - it wa great.

Does evryone now have glucose test at 28 wks - i'm having to go to hospital for full test due to DS's size (though didn't have GD with him so now sure why they're doing test - not had ay sugars showing in urine). Can't eat or drink anything other than water from night before. Never had to do the lucazade (sp?) test in any pregnancy before.

Erika - I got stretch marks in 2nd pregnancy but not many in first, unfortunately I think you're either going to get them or not (depends on skin type and apparently is hereditary)

ursigurke · 21/07/2009 18:15

About that sugar test at 28 weeks: My midwife told me that they would take my blood twice, before and after I had this sugar drink. I always thought you had to do that on an empty stomach so I asked her and she said that I could have breakfast as usual. But all information about it (internet and books) talks about an empty stomach. Does anyone knows more about it? I really do not want to have more bloodtests than necessary just because I got the wrong information.

tigger32 · 21/07/2009 18:27

No stretchmarks here (well not on tummy anyway) I seem to have picked up a few on my thighs over the years I am also a fan of Bio oil, but I think any moisturiser will ease itchiness, I've been using up some bodyshop body butter which has been nice to rub in.

beepbeep I've not got to have a glucose test but a few of my friends have, maybe they are just being more careful.

BBL Ds1 is driving me mad already and we've been on a play date today, no plans tomorrow so not looking forward to that!

tigger32 · 21/07/2009 18:30

ursigurke my friend had the test last week and wasn't allowed to eat for (I think) 12 hours before the first test (maybe longer), she got to me at lunch time and was starving!

pedalmonster · 21/07/2009 18:40

Congrats on your little boy pedalmonster

I thought I'd got away with stretchmarks with ds but they suddenly appeared at 36 weeks, aaarrrgghh! Don't seem to have any new ones yet but still plenty of time for them to appear.

I am utterly fed up of feeling like crap. I am so tired but everytime I lie down to get some sleep I have a massive coughing fit. Throat hurts like hell and stomach aches from all the coughing, when will it end

BeckyBendyLegs · 21/07/2009 19:15

Bored. The furthest we've gone to day is the Spa and we sat outside in the rain eating ice lollies.

I can tell that I'm not getting the same amount of exercise as I was during term time. I'm not hungry at all.

I have stretch marks from the two DSs - not many but mostly sideways ones at the side and a few above my belly button.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 21/07/2009 19:34

At what stage will I be told by the midwife/consultant that I have a 28 wk sugar test? . I have no seen her since 16 wks, not due to see her until 28 wks, but due to a screwup with consultant appt which was due at 20wks, I am now seeing them at 28wks instead of her, so I have booked myself to see her this thursday (she had said when I was 25wks but I have training on that day).

Also, 4.6 is normal for sugars isn't it? I had a test and everything appeared normal, sugars (presumably) livers etc. Perhaps I won't need the glucose test, seeing as lucozade makes me vomit

scarlotti · 21/07/2009 19:47

usigurke you need to find out if it's the lucozade test or the GTT test you're having. The lucozade test is drunk 45 mins before and involves just one set of blood taking. GTT is no food for 12 hours before, two sets of blood with a glucose drink in between. Check with your mw which one it is.

beepbeep I almost got put down for the GTT as I'd had one last time, luckily my mw said we could do the lucozade one first so am keeping my fingers crossed.

lemontop · 21/07/2009 20:33

I haven't heard anything about a GTT test so assumed the midwife will talk about it at 28 week appointment. Does everyone get it? I'm pretty overweight so assume I'll be in that group. I think I need to go to hospital to get the blood tests done so maybe it'll be done then?

I've had a really odd craving for Mediterranean style food this week. It's been tomatoes, olive oil, basil and mozzarella non stop! yum yum.

ursigurke · 21/07/2009 20:47

scarlotti, thanks for that information. I'm pretty sure she said they would take my blood twice (and that would be why the appointment will be quite time consuming) but she also definitely said that I could eat normaly. I'm definitely going to call them but I feel like I can't trust the answer I will get because the first information already seems to be wrong.
There is no specific reason why they would test me in my hospital it's done routinely but if I have to do that test I want it at least to be done correctely.
Well, need to go to bed soon. Those of you still feeling ill, I whish you a relaxing night without coughing and that you will feel much better tomorrow morning.

dorisdaily · 21/07/2009 20:53

you should only have to do a GTT if you you have sugars showing in your wee more than 3 times or you have previous GD or you have a high BMI and/or a close relative (mum or dad) has diabetes and this is normally done at 28 weeks. You do have to fast for 12 hours before and I fainted both times I've had it!

sleeplessinthecity · 22/07/2009 08:48

Just lurking! Congrats pedal another boy!! woo hoo

Have my sis and her teenagers over for the week so being fed yummy food and generally getting fat..Is anyone feeling HUGe.. I'm massive..and waddling already. SPD is in full swing and have another 3.5months to go..HELP...
Are second pregnancies just bigger????
BIo Oil is brill...rub well under bump and sides as that's where most if any lines appear.

Trikken · 22/07/2009 09:00

yes, sleepless, am feeling HUGE now, and waddling here too, dh likes to call me duckie cos of the waddle. dont fit into my work uniform anymore and have had to order maternity one even tho i'll only be wearing it for 5/6 weeks by the time it gets here which is really only 5/6 days for me. I reckon second pregnancies are definately bigger, im sure i wasnt this big already with toby.

scarlotti · 22/07/2009 09:30

Definitely bigger 2nd (and in my case 3rd) time around. I like to think that it's just our bodies remembering where we end up, and obliging earlier on in the process rather than ending up bigger.
Given I've already put on 1.5st though, I suspect I'm wrong Last time I managed to keep the weight gain to just over 2st throughout the whole pregnancy - I suspect this one will end up nearer 3st

lemontop · 22/07/2009 09:43

I feel like I've got a lot bigger over the last few days. Have been having pains that I think are ligaments stretching, feeling tired and hungry all the time which would seem to tie in with my theory. Bump woke me up kicking at 6 today so I had to get up and eat. Off to the gym in a min to try and get a little bit of exercise cos I feel I'm going to end up eating all day at this rate!

My legs feel so odd. One of them feels like I've done a 50mile hike and the other one feels like it's coming away at the hip. I also have to do a sort of three point turn to turn over in bed now.

By the way when does the third trimester start? Is that at 26 weeks? My doc told me it all goes downhill after 32 weeks. Thanks doc.

skorpion · 22/07/2009 10:38

Morning. That's funny, I think I pulled a muscle in my left thigh at yoga on Monday. It's been getting progressively worse, feel like I've done a huge hike on that leg, too.

I also think I have restless legs at night - have had this for years, feeling like there's lactic acid in them and they clench so uncomfortably and I have to move them to relieve it. Getting worse these days.

But overall I feel quite good, enjoying the last month of the second trimester before I turn into a whale and sleep all the time.

scarlotti I'm also going to go down the washable nappy route, well, after the first few days when I hope to master putting the disposable ones on the right way round
Just find the choice a bit overwhelming though, thinking of attending a Nappucino day at Horton in September to have a look at them.

Trikken · 22/07/2009 10:39

I think third is 26 weeks lemontop. i actually think third is no worse than the other two, just different, with a bigger bump to contend with.
