Just thought I'd let you all know that I think if your day jobs fall through, the NCT will employ you for advertising

funtimewincies · 15/07/2009 20:07

Happy Birthday Koumak and great scan news skorpion and katster .

With ds we did both the NHS and NCT antenatal classes. The NHS ones were done by my lovely midwife, but all the couples looked like they'd been made to go to school and wouldn't ask any questions or talk to any other couple. Some left at half time, joking about 'bunking off' or commenting that they 'find out when it happened', as if it wasn't being run for their benefit . I often wonder how they coped during labour!

The NCT ones were good, if a little obsessed with breastfeeding. I felt well-prepared and made some good friends. DH enjoyed them much more too. We were members for a year, but didn't find it worthwhile, partly because the local groups were so disorganised, but mainly because I disagreed with some of the NCT policies on certain issues.

I also allowed the 'you need to do it the right way' obsession with breastfeeding take over, when I almost wish that I'd known less and just let my body do it's own thing. I got too worried about hind milk and fore milk and correct position and all that!

I don't think that I'll bother with the refresher one. I can't imagine that much has changed in the meantime.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 15/07/2009 21:31

Happy birthday koumack! And sorry not sent you the info you need yet, not been at work since due to sickness, but as soon as I am in, I will sort it, promise. Sorry again.

Well done on the scans!!! Glad all is well xx

ErikaMaye · 15/07/2009 21:40

I suck - I've posted multiple times today, and each time forgotten to wish you a happy birthday, koumack! So sorry!!!

Hope you feel better soon Pavlov.

helips · 16/07/2009 08:11

Oops, sorry Koumack happy birthday for yesterday!

Sleepless my ds is 2 next month, should he still be napping? My friends children his age still nap but the time varies with them all. Ds slept right through till 7am, first time he has slept 7-7! I'm hoping he'll still want a little nap today though!

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/07/2009 08:30

Hi guys

I haven't been on for a few days - soooo busy with work.

Helips DS2 is 3 1/2 and still has a nap after lunch! He loves his nap (as do I!). Perhaps he is a bit unusual though (I used to have a nap until I went to school at 5!).

Happy birthday Koumack! So many summer birthdays

Laugs hope you are better. BTW thanks for asking about DS1. Thankfully the two horrible boys have turned off him, but unfortunately elsewhere. The teachers are dealing with it though but at least it is the end of term now and hopefully things will be better next term. DS1 is sooo much happier going to school now. It only really lasted a week but a week is a long time when you're five.

ErikaMaye hope your mum is ok.

Better go - time to go to school!

Katster yeah on the scan!!!!!!

Sorry if I have missed anyone else's news - haven't had time to read all the posts yet! I managed to clock in 8 hours work yesterday and I am supposed to be part time freelance. I have no life at the moment! It'll get better soon.

skorpion · 16/07/2009 09:01

katster - very happy for you on the scan, well done.

koumak - happy birthday!

BTW - the Chinese chart thingy got it right for us.

I'm dreading next few weeks. It's my first client's year end (mine too to process all on my own), my laptop died on me taking away a few valuable days of work and I still have no access to the client's bank account to do any proper work anyway. This self-employed book-keeping lark was supposed to be a bit of light endeavour, but is becoming a stressful mare... Must survive until the new term in October. Sorry for the rant.

sleeplessinthecity · 16/07/2009 10:39

helips maybe its time to cut the nap a little to an hour and see if he sleeps well again. Maybe he doesn't need it at all, which is bad for your day but better for the night...You'll need good nights from DS when the new bubba arrives..

HI all....its so hot here I'm just collapsing on the sofa as much as I can! I'm hoping its just the pregnancy making it difficult..I normally love the heat..I was born in Africa so should be used to it..

lemontop · 16/07/2009 10:42

Congrats to positive scans. So happy for everyone. All these lovely babies on the way!

koumak belated happy birthday!

I've had a bit of a meltdown over the last few days. I cancelled my hen picnic and didn't realise that my mates had gone to loads of trouble and spent loads of money. Think I p*d everyone off and feel awful but think I've sorted things out with them now.

I think the months of stress over bleeding and worrying something was wrong with the baby finally got to me. That combined with non stop wedding hassle & organising made me really stressed and depressed. Rather than doing what I want I've been going along with what everyone has been telling me to do. DP's got his stag do this weekend and is off to a festival so I've got a bit of time to pull myself together before he changes his mind!! I hope it's just pregnancy hormones. I should be really happy! Thought the baby blues are supposed to come after you've had the baby, not 4 months before!

I find it quite hard to relieve stress as a few large glasses of white wine is out of the question and I'm finding the gym a bit too much now. Maybe I should take up yoga?

Apologies for me me me post (again!) i'm off to Covent Garden this afternoon where there's going to be a giant cupcake.

skorpion · 16/07/2009 10:48

lemontop - so sorry to hear you're going through a rough patch. Try to get some you-time and rest, this weekend sounds like a good time to do it. I think this thread is great for support, use it, that's what we're here for. Especially as the wine is off the menu. Take care.

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/07/2009 13:04

I'm starting to miss having wine too after a bad hair day. I've had a few recently and watching Big Brother with a glass of milk and a lump of cheese just doesn't quite cut it somehow.

lemontopa giant cupcake in Covent Garden sounds lovely

Broodzilla · 16/07/2009 14:56

Just back from the Midwife and the bean is "happy and active" (he was kicking her as she was trying to get his heartbeat). He is breech at the moment, but that seems to be normal. Also got given the form for the Health In Pregnancy Grant (and strict instructions to not post it one day before the 25th week or they'll send it back...) and the MATB form. Feel strangely proper now.

Quick Rh - update: the MW asked if I was happy to have the jab in three weeks. I said I was happy as long as it is needed, but that I didn't see why DH's bloodgroup can't be tested. She gave me a funny look and said "why wouldn't it be" so I explained the whole thing about GP not doing it and MW saying that they could only take my word for who the father is, and that the jab was in the baby's interest anyway and not mine. Well, this MW got really upset and ended up getting me a leaflet on Anti D which clearly says that it is not needed if "the mother is in a stable relationship and the father is known to be Rh -". She circled that bit and told me to go to the GP with it. I did, and DH now has a blood test next week! ;D

She also said that she was going to bring it up at the next MW staff meeting as she says I was given the wrong information. The thing is, it also saves the NHS money potentially, as the bloodgroup test is very cheap and straight forward whereas the Anti D injection is v. expensive! (I just feel a bit bad about having got the last MW into trouble... I did say I didn't want to cause a fuss.)

Got to go and eat something now, am seeing stars... just wanted to update quickly!

Oh, and on the Braxton Hick's, she said to listen to your body, if they get uncomfortable it's a sign that you need to slow down. They're meant to only be felt, but not hurt. Hope that makes sense?

Koumak · 16/07/2009 16:32

thanks girls birthday was lovely pink cake delicious but is no more...

can I ask about your travel insurance you mentioned earlier? who did you chose what was the cost and specially the cover? I should have looked into this but no time! thanks

hope everybody is ok today

funtimewincies · 16/07/2009 16:34

Cheers to MWs who know their stuff (raises a glass of Schloer to Broodzilla's MW). They're worth their weight in cheesecake .

Helips - ds is 2.7 and still needs a nap. He can sleep for 3 hours sometimes if left although he then won't drop off until 9.30-10pm. He sleeps until 7am most mornings. The problem is that if we wake him up before he's ready he's absolutely foul for the rest of the day and it's just not worth the agro!

Koumak · 16/07/2009 16:49

I am seeing my MW for the first time since the booking appointment at 11 weeks next Monday. Lets see what she is like as I have a long list of questions running! And need loads of forms too!

weston · 16/07/2009 17:32

think it depends on the child helips my dd was 2 in march and even though she could do with one can prety much run around in circles for 12 hours consistently now...we put her to bed at 6/6:30 so at least u get full evenings

my bump just appeared today! just seemed to suddenly pot out! trying to pack for week in caravan in devon, there will be nothing left in the house at this stage..

Tamlin · 16/07/2009 17:32

Broodzilla, good for you. I'm glad you got a sympathetic midwife.

I'm having the day from hell over here - rainy, and DS ('NO! MINE! NONONONO!') is going through a trying stage, shall we say. According to the physio, I'm not supposed to pick him up and carry him, but when faced with a violent tantrum in the middle of the carpark and with a downpour in the offing, I didn't have a lot of choice. Back, hips and pelvis killing me now. Have just cracked and sat him in front of a long-hoarded Thomas the Tank Engine DVD - he's never watched it before, and it appears to be the equivalent of toddler crack. That's the first smile I've had from him all day.

So - erm - yay, another baby on the way!

ErikaMaye · 16/07/2009 17:58

So glad your midwife is so good Broodzilla Mines coming tomorrow morning.

at the weight in cheesecake comment!!

Tamlin you poor thing. I hope the Thomas does he job properly and maintains your DS's good mood, and that the pains ease off soon.

I was feeling good, but have suddenly just come crashing. Some woman on the bus today was a right bitch to me, and its only now that I'm quite upset by it. (Was sat in a priority seat in a virtually empty bus, she came up to me and said, "Those seats are for people who actually need them, not those that can't just keep their legs together".) Had a hand over meeting to transfer from CAMHS to Adult Services, and that's stressing me. Plus am feeling rotten physically, so was laying on the sofa (its cooler than in my room) and my brother came in with a bunch of his friends and started being an arse because mum had nipped out to the shops. GAH

Okay rant over!

Ponkey · 16/07/2009 18:30

Hello!

I've only found (well really haven't looked before) for forums and pregnancy sites and saw your thread... May I join? I'm due in November as well, the 5th!
I'm in London and going to The Whittington for the the moment although I have an appointment next week at UCLH...
Is anyone in the same area?

ErikaMaye · 16/07/2009 18:45

Hey Ponky waves Welcome!

Pinkcaz · 16/07/2009 18:48

Hi Ponky - wow i'm due on the 5th and have been doing all my appointments so far at the Whittington

How come you are changing if you don't mind me asking?

I am actually going to my last appointment there next week as I am going back to Derbyshire to drop my bump hehe

Take care x x x

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 16/07/2009 19:37

at ponkey welcome to the mad house .

Can I ask a boobs question please? Does anyone have boobs which have not grown very much, but then from time to time appear bigger then not, then they do, then they don't? I went up by 1/2 cup sizes is all last time, and this time seems less , but then, on occasion, they very enormous? WTF is that all about?

helips · 16/07/2009 20:57

Thanks to everyone with the napping advice, ds slept for an hour this afternoon but boy was it a struggle to get him to go to sleep! He didn't nap until 3pm and I thought that would mean he wouldn't go to sleep at bedtime but he has thank god!

Erika can't believe how that woman spoke to you, so unbelievably rude. I really don't understand how anyone could talk to someone like that, especially a pregnant woman. She must be a really horrible person with a miserable life to have to put a pregnant stranger down like that.

Welcome ponkey is this your first baby? You'll find lots of support on this thread but I warn you, we are a chatty bunch

weston have a lovely time in Devon, hope it's nice and sunny for you.

helips · 16/07/2009 21:00

Sorry pavlov meant to say, my boobs are enormous! They didn't really stand a chance though as they hadn't returned to their normal size pre ds (34dd!) and now they are about a g cup! God knows what they'll be like when the milk comes in!

Ponkey · 16/07/2009 21:05

Thank you for your nice welcome!

@Pinkcaz: I've decided to try UCLH because I don't feel really comfortable at The Whittington: appointments not booked by midwife when she said she would, nurse shouting at me because I had forgotten my yellow book on the second appointment and asking me what kind of mother I will be and if I was understanding her properly, I've also mentioned a few times I wasn't well and they only told me I should be happy because it is the happiest time of my life, etc
I've also met nice people there but there are too many mistakes...

I'm extremelly tired at the moment and feel depressed but no one took the time to listen to me or try to find out what was wrong...

Does anyone feels really depressed? I'm so stressed with work, long days, working with men and not looking pregnant doesn't help and pressure is same as usual.

Also I'm a bit worried as my little boy has swollen kidneys...

It is just a little bit too much at the moment and I find difficult to cope with everything...
