Hi, i stumbled across this site, while looking for anything to do with depression during pregnancy, i was quite relieved to find out i wasnt completly crazy! I have been feeling so low for the past 2 weeks now, im 7 weeks gone. Ive not been able to go to work, cant get motivated to do anything and the constant sickness is doing my nut in also!!! My husband is being wonderful and very understanding, he took me to the doctor and got an appointment with a physciatrist, which im happy to do anything to help get through this. Im trying to stay positive and think happy thoughts but it is quite hard to do...if anyone has any tips to help i would appreciate it, otherwise the next 33 weeks are going to feel like an eternity...! txs

Countdownison, so sorry you are feeling this way. I didn't feel depressed when pregnant but was very anxious.

I went to a pregnancy yoga class which was lovely as the enviroment was very loving, nurturing and relaxing and I was able to let go completely without feeling an idiot.

You wouldn't be able to join a class until 15 weeks though.

Look after yourself, go for nice walks, eat what you want (hard when you feel so sick but this phase should pass).

have you thought of acupuncture? I am going next week for morning sickness, but the woman there deals with anxiety during pregnancy, and also seperately for help with coping with depression. It might be worth looking into, have a chat and see if it might help you. Along with depression you have a million hormones whizzing around you which are certainly not helping you feel great. I feel terribly down and I do not normally suffer from depression per se.

In my area we can get acupuncture for free on NHS for pg related issues, but the queue is like 3 months, so I am going private.

Thanks for the comments, ive been getting reflexology done, which does seem to help, i have been better the past 2 days but only because its been the weekend and my husband has been at home with me, making me do things.. he is a tower of support right now, but i can feel myself stressing about work tomorrow already...!!! the thing is i love my job, i know everyone by name all 100+ employees, but im usually the joker making everyone else smile, so if im not my usual self there will be questions etc etc.. i know i shouldnt stress about this but just the thought of sitting in my office for the whole day makes me feel ill, yet i know sitting at home for the whole day on my own will make me feel ill..... God i hate feeling this way, i just want my life back!!!anyway sorry just needed to vent, fingers crossed this pregnancy goes well as ive told my husband im never ever doing this again!!

Hi there,

There is a recognised, but little known condition called Ante Natal Depression (forgive me if you have already heard about it). If you are feeling so low that you are struggling to cope, you need to speak to your mw and go and see your gp. They can help by arranging counselling and if necessary prescribing appropriate medication. Try to go asap if you can as there can often be waiting lists for counselling.

You are not alone, there are support groups and a dedicated website here.

Hope you feel better soon.

Countdownison I am 28 weeks pregnant and also suffering with depression, it comes and goes in waves for me. I have contacted my GP for counselling and waiting to be treated now. Please message me if you want to talk? I have suffered with depression for many years now, did you also have it pre pregancy too?
