Hello everybody Here is the shiny new thread, hope you found it ok!!

Longtalljosie · 19/05/2009 08:00

Hi Valz - I'm in the same boat, haven't had a decent night's sleep in ages. People keep telling me it's nature's way of preparing you for the sleep deprivation which the baby will bring but that seems hardly fair!

mama2leah · 19/05/2009 11:51

hiys guys...

i wanted to ask, is anyone tandem feeding on this thread?

my friend had her dd yesterday she was july in mid july...seems to be doing well...made it seem even more real that il have another lo to care for.

what helps with my backache, is a hit shower, pointed where it hurts for at least 5 mins.

anyone brought a double pushchair, if so which one?

HeinzSight · 19/05/2009 12:34

kitkatqueen, OMG how frightening for you . I'd have been exactly the same. When DH was riding he would text me without fail as soon as he had arrived at work. On the day of his accident he had taken a day off and went out at 3pm for a 30 min bike ride. Because he knew how scared I was of him riding he was never more than a few minutes late. By the time he was 20 minutes late I knew something had happened . It took the police nearly an hour and a half to notify me, you can imagine what I went through.

The thing is, when you're pregnant you feel especially vulverable and reliant on your other half and all sorts of horrid ideas pop into your head. FWIW I see loads of people out on their bikes who have been riding for yrs and yrs, DH was just very very unlucky, his accident was all at the hands of a crazy BMW driver who left the scene of the accident and was never found , it was just one of those freak things where unfortunately my DH got innocently caught up in.

Re Osteopath, you clever sausage, I'd have never thought of that. I am a bit of a freak how much I bend! My fingers can be dislocated without any pain whatsoever!!!!! Weirdo.

Ooh, that's interesting re the pattern for the sling. Can you link to it, or copy and send it or something?

I do hope you feel better kitkat. Are you still taking Omega 3? I've just sent DH into the kitchen to take some as he's feeling a bit low today, 17 weeks of unemployment is bound to get him down

cairns · 19/05/2009 12:49

Heinz - very weird regarding the osteopath, but lets hope things improve. My DH had a weird phonecall with his friend last night who apparently can do ' divining' whatever that is, I think it is where they can find water with sticks... far too way out for me

KKQ - Glad your DH was OK, but what a scare,my DH is a nightmare at times to get hold off, which is just what you don;t need when you are worried.

Hencath - thanks for the info on your scan. I just really don;t know what to think as they aren;t telling me anything. the estimate at 28 wk scan was that the baby was 1.765kg which I think is around 3.9lbs . I too have a 6ft 5 DH which kind of explains things too. I am not too worried yet I don't think, have my GTT test Fri and another scan at 34wks so we'll see.

I too am feeling huge and uncomfy, I do find using an extra pillow in bed useful though to make it a comfier nights sleep, I have a tendency to want to sleep on my back and it allows me to kind of lean against it etc.

sling options unsure here too, I used the mothercare own brand last time which was OK, although I didn't really use it much. I am not sure how much I will use it this time around so a little uncertain./

Afternoon ladies. Am keeping up just but am struggling with "personals". DH and I had a big row about scooters and bikes on Thurs night last week. He has just passed his test on a 125 and is looking at buying a restricted bike. I was (relatively!) supportive until he had a long lunch with his friend on Thurs and drove his 50cc scooter home tipsy. I was so cross I threw him out of the house whilst I put the DSs to bed. The row is unresolved as he thinks it was an ok thing to do - incidently he would never drive after drinking in a car or a "proper" motorbike. I think he perceives the scooter as a motorised push bike

Unfortunately his behaviour more to do with his lack of job etc than anything else and I am concerned he's beginning to get depressed - most of the time he's fine, its so difficult to tell. There are possibilities but nothing seems to come to fruition. All very frustrating.

Anyway - pg wise all is fine, barely thinking about it really except for feeling pretty knackered most of the time. As it's our third I don't think I need to buy anything except nappies! And new muslins .

It's DS1's 4 birthday party on Friday. Thankfully he's sharing with a friend otherwise the thought of 26 4yr olds would finish me off!!!

Keep well, it's not too long now - I'm 30 weeks today so into counting down on my fingers !

kitkatqueen · 19/05/2009 13:53

Hiya Heinz, dp told me last night its not a big deal and he will just get rid of the bike. I feel about as guilty as possible. Have told him to keep it and use it for work when we live nearer so it won't be a 3 hr commute each day. I agree with u tho. It often seems to be just wrong place wrong time. It was the annirversary of my friends accident at the beginning of the month which I think is just adding to my freaking out.

Just had 2 deliveries for dp. Bike manual and a screen that isn't pink. feel soooo guilty and unreasonable.

Have (hopefully ) just set up a facebook page in the name of "kit katqueen" (am waiting for the email confirmation) so I can then post a copy of the pattern on there.

Will let u know if it works.

2hotcrossbuns

Would it help your case to point out that if he gets nicked on the 50cc the ban would apply to his car license??? That wouldn't make getting a job any easier. I'm not trying to be preachy just to give you some ammo. Hope he finds something v soon.

OP posts:
2HotCrossBunsAnd1InTheOven · 19/05/2009 15:21

Oh yes have pointed out the ban would apply to the car as well. We live in London so the car isn't a big day to day issue - just when he wants to go windsurfing! I did point that out to him and we joked about the response he would get from me if he asked for a lift to the coast!
I was more upset at the thought he could be so reckless when we have 2 boys who adore their dad beyond all else. And a new one on the way. Anyway - it has blown over of sorts and he has apologised for upsetting me .

Just wanted to say sorry my last post was very "me"! Hope all the pelvic/hip pain becomes more bearable for those that are suffering - I am the same and struggling to get comfy in bed. The end is in sight now and the weather is improving which always helps

In relation to getting stuff for the new arrivals - I have found that generally they need very little other than stuff to keep warm and fed in the early days (i.e. nappies, mummy's boobs, blankets) and somewhere to sleep (moses basket/drawer/show box!) and a mode of transport (buggy and/or sling). I was quite fatalistic (if that's the right word) about buying too much for DS1 too early and then he was born 10 days before due date and we weren't ready. Didn't seem to matter though, DH just went to Asda and Boots and got what we needed. I think that retailers try to make it all seem very difficult and complicated and therefore you MUST buy all this unnecessary stuff!

Michaela - hope Nathan is still doing well.

duchesse · 19/05/2009 16:43

Agree 2hotcrossbuns about stuff- ime they need in the early weeks:
Nappies, vests, babygros, hat.
Car seat, sling.
Somewhere to sleep (although in our case that is usually with us)

Everything else can be bought as and when and if the need arises.

We always bathed ours with us after the first few weeks with the first one, used the old elbow to test the water (and obviously made it slightly cooler than we'd normally like). This relies on there being two people in the house- one to bath, one to take washed baby and dress it while person 1 tops up bath with warm water and washes themselves.

hencath · 19/05/2009 16:47

Cairns Blimey that is big! No wonder you're uncomfortable. I see the consultant tomorrow so I dont know yet if they will want me to do a GTT too. Good luck with your GTT on friday though. I was talking to a girl I work with who had gestational diabetes throughout both her pregnancies and she said that she had glucose in her urine too and I haven't had that so I'm hoping thats a good indication that I don't have anything to worry about. Let me know how you get on with your next scan. My friend with the gestational diabetes was induced at week 38 with both babies!

duchesse · 19/05/2009 16:49

I have to go for my bloody GTT (no indications that I have GD, just old) on Sunday of all days. Talk about abuse of human rights. Not only do I not get breakfast (in bed or anywhere) on Sunday, but I have to go have drink squalid syrup and be stabbed with needles repeatedly.

ScummyMummy · 19/05/2009 17:21

lol @squalid syrup, duchesse! I don't think I have to do GTT unless bloods they took last week show a need. Finding everything very relaxed and hands off this pregnancy. Hope all the troubles with bikes and bone pain resolve themselves for everyone.

duchesse · 19/05/2009 17:33

Can I ask you ladies a favour please? Am so fed up with people looking surprised or shocked when I tell them how pregnant I am, followed by comments about how small I am, that I would really value some impartial opinions. I have just put up a photo on my profile of my bump taken this morning, at 27+2. I'm starting to get a bit paranoid- does it look of a normal size to you guys?

duchesse · 19/05/2009 17:40

Cos if you guys all think I'm way small I'm off to the midwife asap. There's plenty of movement going on in there btw. All day, all night, with the occasional wee restette for about 2-3 hours. God help us.

mama2leah · 19/05/2009 17:55

oh my- im massive compared to u, must stop eating the chocolates...

mama2leah · 19/05/2009 17:57

sorry, that wasnt really helpful.

i cnt reali tell from ur pic

cairns · 19/05/2009 19:45

duchesse very normal compared to a friend of mine who was tall and slim (and she has just given birth to a 9lb baby).... of those stomach muscles. I think a lot of it depends on which way baby is lying too

I am not the right person to compare to as I always 'carry' very low and as far forwards as possible so you can't tell I am pregnant from the back but get a shock with the side view, plus the bump is soo low down I get the opposite ' ooh you must be due soon' comments grrrhh...

duchesse · 19/05/2009 19:49

cairns- I think it must be that! For a start this one is breech (or transverse at times), but my babies never engage until labour, which is brilliant for me as it means I stay mobile right up to the end (I believe that it's not so much fun getting about once they engage...) but rather worries the midwives as they think I'll never go into labour.

re the stomach muscles- they're not fantastic but it has been 12 years since my last pregnancy so they've had a bit of time to recover... Also have done a fair bit of Pilates and riding since then.

HeinzSight · 19/05/2009 20:26

duchesse, try not to worry about your bump size. How big were you with your other DC? I'd say as long as your scans showed up as normal size and your fundal height is matching your dates I wouldn't worry too much. You're slim aren't you, by your photo. Think about all those women who don't know they're pregnant until they've given birth, they hardly had a bump obviously. I HTH, but if you're at all worried, go and see your midwife.

2hotcross, I don't blame you for being angry, I'd be livid. Surely a 50cc can reach a substantial speed? You're SOOO vulnerable on a bike. I know my DH was riding a 1000cc so there's a bit of a difference but his accident has left him with a paralysed arm for life. His injury is VERY typical of a fall from a bike. Also adding to your ammo!!

sorry kitkat, not helping again there. Can't find you on fb yet?

BabyBump2B · 19/05/2009 20:38

Hi all - I just wrote a big long post and mumsnet ate it so I am even grumpier than before.

Am have tres bad day. have torn one of my abdominal muscles and the pain is excrutiating. Feels like someone is stabbing me with a hot knife. MW just said it will heal after the baby's born but it has gotten so much worse in the last 4 days so I'm heading to the dr. I slept less than 2 hours last night and am so miserable and weepy.

Anyone else suffered from this?

nellyup · 19/05/2009 20:52

babybump - ouch! Sounds very painful and lack of sleep not good either. Hope the doctor can sort it out for you.

duchesse everyone carries differently don't they and I've definitely seen plenty of women at our stage with miniscule bumps, smaller than yours. Personally I'm like Cairns and have people coming up to me all the time saying 'any day now then' which makes me growl at them.

And mama2leah to answer your question from a while back - I'm not tandem feeding with this one but I did with the other two when ds was born.

ScummyMummy · 19/05/2009 21:22

Hi duchesse- I think there's a massive variety of bump sizes at this and every other stage, tbh. Look- I did an image search of "27 weeks pregnant" for you and here's a selection:

Bump 1

Bump 2

Bump 3

Bump 4

Bump 5

Pretty varied, huh? I think Heinz is right- don't worry unless your midwife tells you to!

duchesse · 19/05/2009 21:25

Scummy, thank you! You are right. I'm just being paranoid, and it's just dredging up all the stuff that happened last time with my supposedly IUGR baby (who actually weighed 7.5 lbs at birth).

mumof3tobe · 19/05/2009 21:39

Can I be added to the list. Only recently found mumsnet and am living in Canada for the past year.

26 weeks pregnant so Due date August 27th 2009.

ScummyMummy · 19/05/2009 21:44

I think bump size and baby size do not necessarily correlate at all and if you have history of wee bump and bouncing babe (as you clearly do even if there were worries in the process) you should lay all current fears to rest. Plus- you are going to make us all jealous by fitting back into your pre-pregnancy jeans before anyone else. No one will want bumps then and if it's anything like last time I will have people thinking I'm pregnant and/or fat for about 4 years after delivery!
