Ok, as long as you are not alone!! From induction to birth was 8 hours for me but then 1. it was my first and 2. I had a lot of problems on the way so was stopping and starting a lot!!!

You will be fine lovely - am so excited that you will get to hold your LO soon!

Can't think of anything they haven't put on the list, all I used was LOTS of baby stuff (nappies and changes of clothes), pants, pads, PJs and wash stuff! Food and drink is a must as I forgot those and sent my mum out to get them - Didn't use half of what I took and ended up coming home bags of stuff!

Also eat lots now as you can't have anything but water once the drip is in!

I just burnt new potatoes HOW???- am a rubbish wife!

BabyBunnyBolat · 15/04/2009 18:22

oooh definitely lansinoh! that stuff is like gold!!!

PuzzleRocks · 15/04/2009 18:43

Thanks BB, I have just had supper and now I shall cram in as much chocolate as possible.

They have a bed ready for me at 7.30 so i'll be off in about 15 minutes. I'm going to say my goodbyes now my lovelies.

Thanks to all of you for all the support this far.

good luck puzzle!

Am just setting up contraction timer - been having them for 3 hours but getting painful now.

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 15/04/2009 20:30

Puzzle - thinking of you... XXXXX

Yay surprise!! We've just been to Nando's for a hot quarter chicken - hopefully that'll get things regular...

surprisenumber3 · 15/04/2009 20:36

ladies - I'm calling the labour ward. Pains are constant like period pain and I am practically rolling around the floor!

The contractions I'm having are bearable but the constant period pain is not!

Will let you know what they say. MM is my text buddy but she's prob all snuggled up with Amelia

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 15/04/2009 20:37

SOOOOOOOOOOOO of you Surprise... good luck darlin!!!

mumblemumhome4lunch · 15/04/2009 20:38

hello!

Am typing very carefully as don't want to spook the computer into dumping me off-line yet again

Nutty - sorry I left you in the lurch the other night.......if I can type fast enough I might actually get to post my birth story and maybe even catch up on who else has popped before this blasted thing seizes up on me again [puts pretty flowers round computer, strokes it softly and coos loveingly to encourage it]

Can't believe Orson is just over 2 wks already and DH will be going back to work on Monday (yikes!). So that his story has some context a brief resume of DS1 and DD births:-
DS1 - started as HB, transfered to hosp due to me being quite sick, ketones in urine and failing to progress. Eventually born after 36 hr labour, epidural, and by forceps. Post birth bleeding from episiotomy site = transfusion required and 5 day stay in hosp.
DD - started as HB, labour going swimmingly well compared to DS1 (would have been about 7 hrs this time) except for midwife being delayed so not even gas and air. When midwife did arrive and examined me I was ready to push but oh dear baby was breech. Transfer to hosp and straight into theater as was at pushing stage . DD uncerimoniously yanked back out. Proper postpartum haemorage this time = transfusion and 5 day stay in hosp again.

Going to post now as typed this all out last time only to find it wouldn't post and don't want that to happen again. Fingers crossed everyone please that this works AND that I get more than one post in !!

surprisenumber3 · 15/04/2009 21:00

am going in girlies - will let you know asap xxx

mumblemumhome4lunch · 15/04/2009 21:02

Oooo that worked

Orson's story.....
I went to bed about 11.30 on the Monday night. Nothing unusual to suggest anything was going to be happening. Was kind of half awake/half sleeping when I realised that I was really very unconfortable and "oh, could this maybe be a contraction then". I could hear DH in the bathroom and waited to see what was going to happen - more or just that one. Pain wore off but had another whopper just a few mins later and then realised that my pj shorts were wet through. Was about midnight when I got up to go to the bathroom to check things out. DH was in kissing kiddies when I called to him to say I was wet. I got that rather typical male "yes dear" response when they aren't really listening to you so I had to specifically say "DH, my waters have gone". Oh for a camera for the look on his face as it dawned on him .
Was going to go back to bed but just too uncomfortable, enough so that I felt the need to time them straight away. DH was going to stay in bed until I said I thought I might well need him downstairs very soon anyway. timed a few, they were very regular, VERY strong and before we realised what was happening they were just a couple of mins apart lasting over a min a time. Called the hospital who kindly said we could go in if I felt I needed to . Woke up nextdoor neighbour (eventually!) and I just about managed to get into the car. We cut the normal 10 min ride to the hospital down to 5 mins by jumping all three sets of traffic lights on the way (we are only just round the corner thankfully), collected a police escort which appeared to have a change of heart when they saw me pretty much collaps panting onto all fours as soon as I got out (fell out) the car . We discovered that the maternity entrance at the hospital is no longer used and the buzzer doesn't work (no sign to tell you this) but I couldn't manage to walk by this time as contractions were running one right into the next. DH had to call the delivery suiit on his mobile and get them to bring a wheelchair for me.
I was put on a monitor first to check baby because things were progressing so quickly, and had my "just in case" IV line set up.

Swaliswan · 15/04/2009 21:30

Evening Ladies,

Huge congrats to all of the new babies! I was so pleased to come onto MN and see the title of our current thread announcing that Springy had sprung

Sorry that I've been AWOL (again). My MIL came to stay for a few days and I had no MN time. I did, however, get three free sessions of acupuncture from her. She's threatening to come back down this weekend and give me a sweep if nothing has happened. She reckons that she has a very high success rate with her women when she does a sweep even if their cervix isn't 100% favourable. I'm not sure that I like the idea of my MIL's hand up my fanjo, but then the idea of getting this baby out is very tempting. Surely I'm allowed to queue jump now given how many other people are

Having never gone to term before, I can't believe just how uncomfortable these last weeks of pregnancy are. I was extremely when someone told me that I was lucky to have a premmie last time as I missed out on the worst weeks of pregnancy. I bit my tongue rather than remind them that it's exactly great having your baby on the neonatal unit. I have to say though, in some ways it does seem a lot easier to not do the whole when-is-this-baby-going-to-come thing and the feeling of heaviness now really is something else. When I had DD, she engaged on the friday and I gave birth on the sunday. This baby has slowly been engaging for weeks and is now 1-2/5 engaged. I seem to be doing things the wrong way round for first and second babies! The midwife's comment was that if the baby gets any lower, it will need a parachute (I replied that I would settle for a midwife and a delivery suite!).

Anyway, nothing interesting to report. I'm getting used to the period pains and the on-off false labour. I think that I'm going to be pregnant forever as this baby is clearly comfy where it is despite all of the midwives predicting that it would be here by now.

Ladies

Can I direct you all to the Sauce of Shame / secret cooking cheats thread - it's inspiring and quite funny!

Except maybe the bit about reusing wine that your guests have left in their glasses.

Good night everyone - happy contracting

conkertree · 15/04/2009 22:24

omg bronze due date buddy - cant believe you popped today - and then casually post about going off to bed with your ds. maybe I've missed some posts or am getting confused, but it all seems very relaxed. congratulations.

and to juw.

and hope puzzle is getting on well.

not to cast too much doom and gloom on you bicnod, but just about the pelvis size - my sisters ds1 never engaged past 1/5 cause her pelvis was too small to let him through - she ended up with a cs - have read before that they prefer to be 2 or 3/5 engaged before they will induce as otherwise there is no proof that the head will get through, and therefore its safer to plan for a cs. As others say - lots of time still to engage, but its not the end of the world by any means if a cs is needed. But yes get bouncing on that ball .

conkertree · 15/04/2009 22:26

oh and good luck to surprise too.

BoffinMum · 15/04/2009 22:26

This is true Conker but it's very rare apparently. Trial of labour is usually suggested.

conkertree · 15/04/2009 22:29

yup my sister had a trial of labour with ds1 - as I say - I'm sure there is lots of time to engage anyway - just wanted Bicnod not to absolutely set her heart on a v birth just in case cause I know my sister was very disappointed with a cs and there was no reason to be cause she ended up with her beautiful little boy and it didnt matter how it came out.

soon2befamilyof4 · 15/04/2009 22:41

Hello. COngratulations to all those new babies!

Puzzle - good luck! You are my due date buddy so can't believe you are having baby tonight! Sorry you didn't get your homebirth, although I have to say I am actually a bit jelous you get to have your baby now! I am wondering if maybe I shoul go and get checked as my waters started leaking the day before yours did? How did they check? You probbaly won't get to read this as you will have baby to worry about next time you are home!

Been walking round chessington today but no more labour signs! My contractions were so painful last night - it seems rediculous that they didn't amount to anything!!! I REALLY want this baby now!

Had a long chat with mum and sister about childcare problems. Nobody seemed to be bothered about the fact I didn't want MIL to have DD and nobody seemed to understand why. I think I have made them realise though and we have made a few better plans and thought of a couple of extra people that might be free. Also my mum has said she will stay with DD instead of being with me if really needed.

surprisenumber3 · 15/04/2009 23:48

Hi - am back!

Contractions measuring over 100 on the monitor and every 5 minutes but apparently that's not regular enough?! Am only 1 cm dilated so they sent me home and said I'll prob be back in the night but to have a bath and something to eat and see how I go.

So...am home for now!
