Oh no, that's what I am going to think when I make porridge now.

BoffinMum · 10/04/2009 11:10

Soon2be, sometimes you have to compromise on the other things to get the new behaviour pattern to work. So that can indeed mean ignoring vomiting, wee everywhere, pooing in the bed (specialilty of my DS1), room trashing (as per my DS2) or whatever. But it does feel absolutely horrendous doing this, I freely admit, so Schulte's suggestion is another option.

Do you think there might be a possibility of buying her off with the promise of a present if she stays in her room properly all night? Is she old enough to understand that? (I forget her age). Then implementing whatever behaviour modification plan you choose? New pyjamas might signify a fresh start as well.

bronze · 10/04/2009 11:27

We have a stairgate on dds door. That doesn't mean we ignore her but it does mean she cant sneak out and get herself into harm. Also a plus of this is that she doesn't get out of her darkened room into an environment that seems more interesting such as appearing in the living room where the light is on and we're watching tv.
When she gets up we do the put her back to bed, no eye contact, no talking thing and it seems to work.
Sometimes she gets up quietly and we don't hear so go into her room to find shes emptied her drawers but we just ignore that and I sort them out when she not around in the morning. Her sleep has improved no end and when shes had a good night then I'm happier which means they're all happier.

bronze · 10/04/2009 11:28

Kitty
its not event he ring I'm jealous of its the effort he put into it.

bronze · 10/04/2009 11:30

Oh ds1 and dd have both done the poo smearing ds1 also did the vomiting add does a fine lien in room trashing. Ds2 seems angelic in my memories....

Morning all!

Kitty - what a fabulous evening, lovely DH, so romantic! Do you think he was nervous beforehand?

I'm off for a wander around Sandwich today - it's quite a picturesque little town (if you ignore the enormous Pfizer site just down the road), and hopefully a bit of a walk, and a drive away from home may encourage things to get moving.

I was getting myself very worked up in the night worrying about induction etc, ended up downstairs with warm milk again (though no HobNobs ), but MN was v.quiet! Feeling better today though - still 4 days to squeeze the bairn out before I have to tackle that hurdle.

Anyways, nothing much to say this AM really. Just wanted to post as have been reading the 'do you take drugs?' thread for much of the morning, and it's made me very , so wanted to get my head out of there and back into friendly antenatal! I prefer a bit of smut and cervix dust over scary threads any day!

Best baby and birthing wishing to you all for the day!

chickaleggjac · 10/04/2009 12:00

Morning everyone
Had a lovely long lie today, first time in a looooong time. Certainly one of the last for a long time too
Kitty - last night sounds amazing, you must have felt like you were walking on air! Have a lovely day now to match it. Lovely DH.
BB - Yup, I have it all to come. Runny yellow poos. I still remember the sweet kind of smell it has. Yuk Yuk. Unfortunately that's your lot until you start adding more to wee Karahan's diet. You have had good advice already but not sure if anyone suggested liners? If you get flushable liners it would keep majority of poo off nappy. Personally if I'm using liners it'll be cheap, washable something or other as I want nothing disposable at all. It's all a matter of personal choice.

Where are all the babies? I'm starting to forget this is a huuuuuge antenatal thread. We must be fantastically comfy houses and the babies are too snuggly and warm in there!

bronze · 10/04/2009 12:04

you've just reminded me to buy some flushable liners for the first few weeks

I chickened out and took my washables out of my hospital bag. Mainly because I had far too much stuff packed

Kalikaroo · 10/04/2009 12:17

Afternoon everyone .

Well, so much for the full moon effect!!! Not a peep out of this baby. I'm now 41 weeks today .

I have sort of a dilemma - I had my last MW appt on Monday (6th) and I'm booked to have a check up at hospital on Wednesday (15th), which is 9 days later. That's over a week between seeing anyone. Do you think I should see someone for a check up before Wednesday if bubs hasn't arrived? (I don't know how closely they should watch you if you're overdue ).

I tried phoning the MW today, but the clinic is closed over easter until tuesday. It's possible to go over to the hospital for a checkup, but I would have to wait to see someone and then pay for it. Should I just wait til Wednesday if bubs doesn't appear in the next day or so??

I feel completely fine by the way and bubs is moving around ok etc. (I also have a blood pressure monitor at home).

What do you all reckon??

chickaleggjac · 10/04/2009 12:27

I reckon you'll be fine at home, you have BP monitor and you will surely go somewhere straight away if you have reduced movements, or feel dodgy. It's entirely up to you, but I'm sure it would be ok.

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 10/04/2009 12:28

Kali - if the movements are fine then i wouldn't worry too much, you can go to 42 weeks quite happily. essentially they have checked you over at week 41 and are happy with the way things are?? it's a good thing really that they are letting things take their natural course rather than pushing you for induction etc post 41 weeks.

if you are happy with the way things are i would just wait till your next appointment, if you feel you need to be seen for peace of mind then book one

hope that helps

surprisenumber3 · 10/04/2009 12:28

hi all

Kitty - how sweet, sounds SO perfect When DS2 was born DH bought me his birth stone and I have one of DS1's birthstone so I would like and hope to have this baby's birthstone too (diamond I think, ) and then would like the stones stones set into a ring. Think I might need to do some heavy hinting though!!

Kalikaroo - I saw the MW on the day I was due with DS2 and then was booked in for induction 9 days later. He came naturally the day before induction so it was a good 8 days I didn't see anyone for (was over Christmas). Given that I had had PE before maybe I should have but like you I had BP monitor at home (and urine sticks!!) so I didn't worry too much. There is nothing like peace of mind though so if it makes you need easier, I would go to the hospital.

chickaleggjac · 10/04/2009 12:29

bronze - I'm not taking washables to hosp because where am I gonna put dirty ones? Surely no hosp is gonna do my laundry, and I dont like the thought of a big homecoming event with baby in one arm and bag of dirty washables in the other

thebluefoxategreensocks · 10/04/2009 12:39

Not sure how long I can cope with going on! The contractions stoppped most of yesterday (after the "false" alarm early in the morning) but started getting them after 7pm when I was doing Benjamin's bath/bedtime routine. They continued through the night...with me waking up all through the night in bad pain. However, they stopped once I got out of bed! Have had the odd pains today (tho no pattern or regular) but they're quite painful.

However, on the possibly positive side, the midwife yesterday said I was only barely 1cm, whereas today the midwife said she could stretch me to a 3! Sooo, maybe all the pain last night wasn't totally useless? Still no fun having pains all this week and still no baby to show for it!

The midwife did suggest that the baby's head was possibly at an angle, so not pressing fully on the cervix. Wonder if that's the problem why things are going so slow. Don't suppose a big head would cause that, would it? My first baby had a very big head (and a tiny body! LOL). Big heads come from my husband's side - so maybe if the head is so big, it's taking a while to get in place?! Just an idea! lol

SpringySponge · 10/04/2009 12:40

BB, I did watch Grey's last night - it's the highlight of my week these days I love McDreamy. & his mum's so cool! I wish she was my MIL. & I know - I nearly cried at Izzy & dead Denny too! I probably would've done if I hadn't been all out of tears already. I almost went when Cristina got into the shower, too. Bless.

Great news about the yellow poo lasting for months, eh?

Kitty, your DH is so very lovely Lucky woman!

Afternoon everyone. Still no more babies? Despite the full moon? Gutted... It can't be long now until we have a rush of them!

What's everyone got planned for the day?

SpringySponge · 10/04/2009 12:44

Rachel, that is good progress - although still very frustrating. I hope it all sorts itself out & you get your baby really soon xx

Kalikaroo · 10/04/2009 12:45

Thanks for the reassurance! I think I'll see what happens over the weekend and if I feel at all dodgy or that something is wrong I'll go over to the hospital. They are very nice there, but I have to pay 30 euros every time I want them to check me, even if it's just to hear the heartbeat! My MW is free to see though, since it's covered by my health insurance.

I soooooooooooooooooo want this baby to come out this weekend!!!!!!

I've decided to stick to disposable nappies for the first week or so then I'm shifting to cloth ones(a mixture of terry squares, bumgenious, imsy-vimsy and motherease). Can you tell I'm a first-timer with no idea about which nappies are best?? I've bought some flushable paper liners to do until I get sorted out with washables.

chickaleggjac · 10/04/2009 12:55

rachel - totally understand your frustration. If the contractions are bearable, all I can suggest is trying to ignore them as much as possible, try to rest, try to carry on as normal. That's easier said than done though.
If they are getting to you, are you able to just chill out in the bath or shower for a while, get some relief from the heat. The other night while I had contractions I had some pretty yukky period type pain for a while before hand, and I strapped a hot wheat bag to my back with the tie from my dressing gown and bounced on my ball! I looked a picture, but it was lovely to have the heat on my back.
Your baby may just be taking it's time getting into the right position, or your body might just be testing the controls, seeing what this contraction thing is all about.
Try to stay positive and know that at least things are happening, you'll have your baby soon.

NuttyBlowUpEasterBunny · 10/04/2009 12:57

Rachel - good luck! i hope your baby sorts out its position for you soon and makes its way out into the world

BabyBunnyBolat · 10/04/2009 13:30

Afternoon all - I am sooooo bored of DIY shops - have had my fill of them for good!!

How you feeling today Springy-ding-dong?

Bronze - you were spot on, MW said olive oil is the best thing for it and to carry on putting it in his birth long-term as it is a really great natural moisturiser! Am off to Sainsbury's in a sec to get some.

Thanks for poo advice, I got a big pack of newborn nappies for the hospital and they will run out tomorrow so going to start on the washables then methinks.

Kali, you will be fine without a visit, just monitor everything and if there are any changes get them to check it out!

Chicka - how was the house hunting this morning?

Juw, re induction, I was induced and it was ok honestly, you can still move around and have an active labour - but make sure you do what is comfortable to you - you can go over 14 days as long as they monitor your placenta etc if that is what you would prefer!

Kitty - did you tell DH the buddy rules that what he buys for you he has to buy for your buddy too??? [wink}

BabyBunnyBolat · 10/04/2009 13:31

In his bath!!! as if the birth isn't messy enough with all that blood and gunk!

PuzzleRocks · 10/04/2009 13:41

BB - Olive oil is what we use on DD as she has very sensitive skin and it works a treat. It's a great consistency for giving a lovely all over baby massage.

BoffinMum · 10/04/2009 13:44

I did a baby massage course with DS1 and they said to use olive oil, but I have always preferred almond or grapeseed personally.

PuzzleRocks · 10/04/2009 13:44

Do they smell better Boff?
