I want some chickens. Don't think my tiny garden is big enough for them though . Plus, I worry that local cats would get them. Do cats go for chickens?

BabyBolat · 25/03/2009 16:13

So.....you are a Norfolk Bronze?

bronze · 25/03/2009 16:15

gobble

Bleuravin · 25/03/2009 16:16

Just got up from a nap and feel slightly better. I'm not crying anymore. I'm going to sort things out prperly with Dh now about supper...and I still have to pick up the house from my last nights sewing project...

bronze · 25/03/2009 16:17

chickens go for cats. I wouldn't worry there

not cats but have you seen this

Juwesm · 25/03/2009 16:18

Plump juicy breasts? Like a good basting?

Sorry, very personal questions

(was just wondering where the smut had gone)

bronze · 25/03/2009 16:19

glad you're feeling a bit better bleu- he needs to know

BabyBolat · 25/03/2009 16:21

She's gone for a nap!!

I've never been too sure about rabbits! It's the quiet ones you have to watch.

For entertaining (though in some places really quite worrying) cats see here

Juwesm · 25/03/2009 16:23

Glad you're feeling better Bleu. Get DH to sort the dinner - just forward him Boff's plan! 30 mins of shopping, few mins of cooking, few mins of laying out - he'll cope admirably.

LuLuBai · 25/03/2009 16:28

Grrrrrrrrr - utter pregheadery! Drove all the way to nearest town to stock up my armoury of cleaning provisions but forgot to take wallet. "Not a total waste of time" thinks LuLuBai. "There is a fab little playground nearby where DD can stretch her legs". And then it starts raining.

Right - gonna catch up on the thread now and make sure no babies have been born while I've been out.

Bleuravin · 25/03/2009 16:29

Well apparently there aren't so many coming now 6 or 7...and apparently a dear woman at his work said, isn't your wife due next week? which made him suddenly realise what he was doing... Thank you! So they've sorted out take away while I've been sleeping. now all I have to do is color my blue streak, shower and clean up the current messes...though I asked DH to come home early if he can to help and he said he would.

bronze · 25/03/2009 16:31

I think I love that woman for you

AuldAlliance · 25/03/2009 16:36

Bleurgh,
Am feeling really grim, had to leave the ludothèque (sort of drop-in play center which also lends toys) in a rush. Not that I can rush, I was waddling v slowly and painfully. DS is now playing outside on the square with the neighbours' kids, and I am crossing my fingers that no rottweilers appear to eat them, while hoping I ate one chocolate biscuit too many rather than it being more serious. I have ILs coming on the 6th and my mum on the 10th, but before then no one to look after DS if I go into labour. So the baby can't come till the 6th.

Springy, if it's any consolation, DH agreed to be "on duty" (i.e. available on call 24hrs for when people need lawyers under the legal aid scheme) on April 10th, 13th and 16th. When I pointed out that I might give birth on any of those days he admitted that he'd thought his presence wasn't indispensable and I'd manage alone.

BabyBolat · 25/03/2009 16:38

Auld really??!!

OP posts:
AuldAlliance · 25/03/2009 16:51

Yep, BB. This was about 10 days ago.
Didn't mention it before because it made me feel so dreadfully sad.
I think he's gone a bit loopy, actually, with one thing and another. He's hardly sleeping, and is so down at the prospect of turning 41 and being effectively jobless, relying on my earnings yet again, that he's lost sight of the forthcoming event. Which is why I can't quite go along with his "we're healthy, we love each other, it'll all be OK" spiel. When he sets off on his 1-hr motorbike commute, I am terrified he's going to have an accident, as he is so exhausted and zombie-like.

I don't actually think French hospitals allow you to go in to give birth without someone else there. I was desperately running through various neighbours trying to imagine who I'd be least ashamed to give birth in front of, until he saw how upset I was, realised he was being a dick and arranged for various colleagues to be on duty on those days rather than him.

MN just crashed, I think, non?

AuldAlliance · 25/03/2009 16:54

Oh, Bleu, great news. Was trying to imagine cooking for 14, and failing...

LuLuBai · 25/03/2009 16:59

Oui Auld, it crashed. Just after I posted back to you.

Glad your DH has seen sense. Mine has booked himself into a hotel in Birmingham for most of next week as he has a huge work deadline on 6th. Has told me I can't have the baby until after then. Fair enough, not due until the 8th but still...!

Luckily lovely French SIL will be around and lives v. near us. Would hate to have to turn to the dreaded MIL.

And Bleu - also glad that some sense has been drummed into your DH. Good stuff.

DD absolutely LOVED those daft cats on You Tube. Laughed herself silly and wants to watch it again and again.

LuLuBai · 25/03/2009 17:01

AA - does your DH have to ride a motorbike? Does it vastly improve his commuting time? I love motorbikes but I strongly believe that once you have kids you shouldn't ride them anymore.

bronze · 25/03/2009 17:04

my dh is away on business next week too but I'm a way of so not worried. I did make him tell his boss he wasn't goign to the meeting on the 23rd though

LuLuBai · 25/03/2009 17:11

Uh-oh. Think I had better sort out some supper for DD. She's managed to acquire a pot of honey which she's trying to break into. Very cute in a kind of Winnie-the-Pooh sort of a way but potentially v. v. v .messy!

AuldAlliance · 25/03/2009 17:16

LuLu, in the car his commute would take one and a half to two hours, whereas on the bike it takes 45 mins. He would also find it impossible to park anywhere near his work and would have to pay a fortune to park and then walk to the office. We barely see him as it is, he gets in after DS has fallen asleep; if he was driving to work he'd have to leave before DS woke up. The train stops running at 7pm, and DH finishes work at 7:45 at the very earliest. I need the car and we can't afford another one.
So I've not found a way around the danger aspect. That was the main reason I caved in about moving to Marseille, even though I hate the place. But now we can't afford it anyway...

LuLuBai · 25/03/2009 17:31

Oh Auld things will work themselves out for you I'm sure.

Failing that - there is always the tropical island option

AuldAlliance · 25/03/2009 17:45

Funny you should mention that, LuLu: yesterday DH said he had even been considering going back to his old job, which would mean returning to Réunion.

Slight hitches:
I'd have to chuck in my job here and would never get a post like it again. I know you're all at the photos of my campus, but it is in fact a well-reputed Arts faculty.

DH utterly hated his old job (teaching philosophy in secondary school, including obligatory classes for technical pupils studying to be car mechanics , a slight quirk of the French education system), got depressed and our relationship hit serious rocks to the extent that he buggered off one fine evening with a rucksack saying "I am so sorry, but I need to go."
It has taken a lot of rebuilding.
That's basically why I have been supporting him in his career change for so long...

DS is rubbish in Provence heat. God knows how he'd cope in tropical, steaming climes, in schools with no air con.

And there's the old distance chestnut.

Anyway, don't know why I am revealing all this about us, DH'd kill me if he knew.
Enough about moi.
Where are all these babies????
And Purple, let me know if the exercises work!
