Blimey Boffin. I know very, very little about BP but having had mine taken every couple of weeks for last few months those do look v. high.

I know you've offered to keep goats and chickens and wear crap clothes but in all seriousness could he take some time off work or reduce his work to 4 days a week for a bit?

My DH is very affected by stress and has been thinking about cutting back to a 4 day week. Obviously would mean less money but I think everyone seems to be focussing on What Is Important in these days of credit crunch rather than dosh. Lots of employers seem happy to discuss part time work as it means they get to hang on to good team members but can reduce their overheads a bit.

My brother has cut back his days and spends one day a week doing activities with the boys (eg. has piano lessons with oldest son) and is much happier for it.

Morning Ladies,

Sorry I have been AWOL a bit. I'll try and catch up at the end of the morning. Has anyone given birth/gone into labour in the last couple of days?

All of a sudden interest has picked up in our flat and we had a viewing on wednesday then that bloke came back yesterday and we have another viewing this afternoon. Don't get me wrong, this is fab. But, it is taking me a bit of time to sort the flat everyday and keep it shiny! I've found it absolutely exhausting. I do feel a lot more like we are ready to have this baby though with the flat all clean and tidy, the freezer and cupboards are stocked up, my mum has a car seat for DD in her car and I'm about to re-pack my hospital bags to change it from an 'emergency' one to the proper thing! I'm quite tempted to iron all of DH's shirts as well so that he doesn't have to do that each morning like he normally does. I'm not sure how wise it is to iron his shirts though. Being a soldier he is very particular about them.

Oooooooo, we're going to look at a few houses tomorrow. Very excited!

BoffinMum · 27/03/2009 09:11

I am quite a nice nagger , and while he was taking his BP, I was telling him I loved him and how his shirt matched his eyes and made him look particularly handsome, and things like that, to make him feel relaxed. So I don't think that is part of the problem (although I did cry the day he had announced he had nearly been sent to hospital with it, and I am sure that sent him BP sky high! But I am not crying about it now).

He runs a highly specialised department, and flexible working ain't an option at that level, so it really is a choice between doing the job and working out what to do about the BP, or downsizing big time to the goats scenario, tbh. There's not much in the middle.

BoffinMum · 27/03/2009 09:12

PS I hate goats but I might consider running a herb farm and associated small farm shop. If I have to.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 27/03/2009 09:16

Morning all - just a quick one as I'm off to the midwife's in a bit and need a bath. Sadly my silence yesterday was to do with feeling rubbish and lying on the sofa watching early Johnny Depp films (can heartily recommend Cry Baby if anyone's interested) and eating all the wrong things all day, rather than having a baby. I did also have some reflexology in the morning, which was lovely.

BHs have gone very quiet, baby is still wriggling but no signs of anything happening. Tsk.

Thank you for due date wishes BabyBolat! One of my best RL friends is due tomorrow, so there's three of us on tenterhooks.....

I asked DS to tell the baby to come out now this morning, and he said 'Babies don't like weekends' very gravely. So that's that, apparently!

AuldAlliance · 27/03/2009 09:18

Boff, that sounds very high indeed for BP. In France, once you get above 14 (which I presume is 140 for the first measurement), people wring their hands a lot. You need at least to nag him into entering high figures on his chart, that's the minimum. I'd second the suggestion that you hint that he might try and cut his workload at least for the period around the birth. How much of his anxiety do you think is linked to stress concerning your health and the birth, and how much is caused by the commuting, working, etc.?

Interesting to see how you presented your virtual commune to the MW. I asked because I phoned a MW I'd never met to ask for info on behalf of a MNer I barely know (CoteDAzur, you posted on her threads, too, IIRC) and it got v awkward as I'd said she was a friend and then had to reveal that I knew very little about her, her due date or her previous experience .

Right, have finally put a toothbrush in my hospital bag, so feel that progress is being made.
Does anyone know if I should take out my (gas permeable) contact lenses before going to the hospital? I can't remember anything from last time, I even had to ask DH recently if I was naked when I gave birth to DS. But I don't remember taking my lenses out after the birth, so I suppose I had my glasses on throughout.

brettgirl2 · 27/03/2009 09:20

Rather than nagging I might phone the GP and ask for their opinion. The evening ones are not too bad because they are only slightly higher than the normal range (I've had readings like those myself). The morning ones look pretty bad to me though, particularly the bottom value this morning. I'm not sure that being stressed should do that (although I'm not a doctor so clearly don't really know what I'm talking about)

AuldAlliance · 27/03/2009 09:21

Slow typing, Boff. I see that cuting workload not an option.

WFH: love your DS's comment on babies disliking weekends. DS decided this morning that he wanted a sister. When I said it was not possible as the baby's a boy, he suggested that I keep having babies till we have a girl.

AuldAlliance · 27/03/2009 09:21

cutting

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 27/03/2009 09:24

Blimey Auld, what was your response to the suggestion that you turn yourself into a breeding machine in order to provide a sister?

DS also wants a sister, but we don't know what flavour this one is, so he could get his wish. I have a feeling even if it is a boy he'll call it a sister, there's something rather King Canute like about our boy.

'Is that a zebra mummy?'

'no, it's a horse'

'no, I think it's a zebra mummy. let's call it a zebra'

'but it's a horse'

'no, it's a zebra'

AuldAlliance · 27/03/2009 09:30

WFH, I was actually secretly pleased that he hasn't been too traumatised by the crying wreck/harridan I have turned into recently.

I said that having babies was very tiring and that I wasn't sure I had enough energy for his plan.

DS went through an insisting phase like that, where he contradicted obvious truths. We made a lot of "well, you can say it's a zebra if you like, but saying it won't make it true" remarks.
Now he just states blatant nonsense and then says "that was a joke, why aren't you laughing?"

Right, better have a shower and prepare lunch before trekking off to school again...

brettgirl2 · 27/03/2009 09:31

I think that the bottom ones are worse - the top one can be funny just because your heart beats fast as the cuff is put on. I think the top end of normal range is 140/90. The thing is that some people do have naturally higher BP than others - mine is usually around 130/70 (and everyone in my family dies of a stroke when they are around 80)

BabyBolat · 27/03/2009 09:36

WFH - good luck at the midwife!

Boff - I have no advice sorry - but hope things are ok with you and BoffinDad gets all the help he needs!!!

Think I may be nesting - just cleaned the entire ground floor of the house (even scrubbed the cupboards Lulu!) just the upstairs and loft bedroom to do!!!

OP posts:
LuLuBai · 27/03/2009 09:44

I'm obsessed by cupboard doors BB! Have to clean them all the time.

I did a Bad Thing yesterday. After a 2.5 hour drive to get to my 9:15am midwife appointment I was frazzled, anxious and tired and tried to park too quickly outside the surgery. I scratched the car next door. Left a note with my name and phone number but so far nothing. Getting jumpy every time my phone rings. In my haste I forgot to take a photo of the scratch. My mother once had a small prang and then they took a heavy impliment to their car and tried to claim that she had done loads more damage than she actually had.

Anyone else had experience of these things? I haven't fessed up to DH yet as he had a particularly horrendous day at work yesterday (exacerbated by problems with builders at our house)

Schulte · 27/03/2009 09:44
