haha I was saying that to DH earlier today that i can't get my head round being a mum and actually not thinking about myself and 'us' but another person as the most important thing!

I am hoping that the hormone swings at the moment are my body telling me all is getting ready for a change!!

BabyBolat · 22/03/2009 15:14

How is DH doing with the cot?

OddEyes · 22/03/2009 15:19

hello all! in bed again - this preparing for baby and trying to get labour kick started is hard work. lots of walking, sex, bouncing, curry, cleaning, RLT and OEP - only outcome is a random contractions and ever more mucus plug. anyways it all makes me a very tired girl - so about to have a mothers day nap, shame cause is a beautiful day but if labour is to start would be too tired. catch you all later

BabyBolat · 22/03/2009 15:21

oooh enjoy your nap Oddeyes!!

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 22/03/2009 15:23

"Mothers are so grown up & responsible & always know what to do!" uuuuuummm hello there springy, you should know me enough by now that i am nothing like this especially the grown up bit lol

Any ideas what I should do. The stay off after d&v is 72 hours which means I have both ds2 and dd on tuesday as they can't go to playgroup. My cons, appointment is at 9am so we will have to leave at 8 before school so my friend was originally going to drop them off at playgroup for me. Now obviously she can't and I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do. Is there any obvious thing that I'm missing that I could do to solve the problem?

SpringySunshine · 22/03/2009 15:33

Twas a little bit tongue-in-cheek, Nutty but mostly not. I mean look at how much effort you made with DD's birthday present. You're a fabulous mum. You're not only a mum - you're definitely still a real person with a sense of humour & not some crazy maternal robot, but you are a really, really good mother. We all know that just from talking to you on MN & never even seeing you with her.

The magnitude of having to look after a whole new person & be totally responsible for their well-being is so daunting! I don't doubt that I'll love him, but it's such a huge mental leap!

BB, he's building it now. I've just put the 3rd load of laundry of the day through. This one contains mostly crib sheets & muslin squares. I'm feeling a bit nesty (I keep peering through to the nursery & wanting to clean the windows?!) but I think I'd just make myself sick if I tried, so I'm resisting.

OddEyes, it won't be long now & you should definitely nap whilst you can I really want people to start having babies to help distract me from mine! More sex & curry for you, stat!

SpringySunshine · 22/03/2009 15:35

bronze, could DH take an hour or two off work to look after them? Or another friend / family member?

I'm not sure exactly what your situation is, so I'm probably making stupid suggestions

bronze · 22/03/2009 15:38

No not stupid suggestions. I should have said though I don't drive so DH has to take me.

Thinking about it my friend would take me and he could stay at home but then we have the problem of getting her son to school ahhhh

mils in court that day so can't. We don't have many people we can ask.... I'll keep thinking and will look at bus times

SpringySunshine · 22/03/2009 15:42

How far away is your appt? Would it be too expensive to get a taxi? Especially if you factor in hospital parking costs if DH took you anyway... Or you could get a taxi either there or back & DH could do the other journey to drop you off / fetch you with the kids in the car if they're not actually too ill anymore & just off in case they're contagious?

BabyBolat · 22/03/2009 15:45

Get you nesting (I didn't wash my muslins - figure they'll be covered in sick fairly quickly so will get a good wash!!!)

bronze, hmmm - only other thing is potentially taking them with you?

BabyBolat · 22/03/2009 15:46

And I only washed my nappies once (not the four times I was supposed to!) am a bad mother-to-be!!

bronze · 22/03/2009 15:46

I think gone for the friend takes ds1 to school
dh has ds2 and dd in the car and drops me off. Taxi would be £30 one way which we just don't have so fingers crossed they're feeling ok by then to go in his car. DH would so not be a happy bunny if they made a mess of his car (even if I do find the idea slightly funny )

bronze · 22/03/2009 15:47

you're supposed to wash them 4 times? Is that just training?

BabyBolat · 22/03/2009 15:49

Apparently they are not fully absorbent until they have been washed 4 times!

BabyBolat · 22/03/2009 15:49

I however think that they will be wet so frequently that they will soon be washed 4 times!

bronze · 22/03/2009 15:53

which ones do you have?

SpringySunshine · 22/03/2009 15:54

Your LO will only do little wees to begin with anyway, surely? 4 washes does seem excessive.

bronze, you may just have to make sure they're sitting on plastic bags & hope for the best... They should be well enough by Tuesday anyway, I should think? How are they at the moment?

bronze · 22/03/2009 15:56

oh springy springy springy, blacky greeny sticky poo

BabyBolat · 22/03/2009 15:56

the close parent ones here they are really easy to use (from what I can tell) but still no idea if they will be any good!!

bronze · 22/03/2009 15:56

I'm hoping they'll be ok. I think dd will, ds2 has me a little worried but its a couple of days away so we'll see

BabyBolat · 22/03/2009 15:57

Oh bronze you are making me want to be a mother more than anything sticky poo and D&V!! how exciting!!

bronze · 22/03/2009 15:58

ooh they look quite nice. My problem has always been wraps. I can never find one sI like.
I'm watching a close sling on ebay at the moment

BabyBolat · 22/03/2009 15:59

which colour? me too.... [competitive emoticon]
