Let the ramblings commence.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bleuravin · 11/03/2009 13:45

wow. That is a difference! But etimations are only estimations...

surprisenumber3 · 11/03/2009 13:47

I know, I am just relieved because my bump seems really small. The day DS1 was born he was estimated to be 4 lb 8 though so they were pretty close on that one!

DS2 was estimated to be 5 lb at 34 weeks and was only 6 lb 12 oz when he was born at 40+ weeks.

I'm only 5'4 though and small frame, I don't think I could carry a big baby.

Bleuravin · 11/03/2009 13:54

Does the baby feel big to you? Aren't babies supposed to put on and average of 10-14oz per week typically after week 36? Or is that the mummy and baby total? I cannot remember. Have you been tested for gestational diabetes? My SIL was diagnosed with it at 34 weeks and they thought her baby was going to be big...I think he was 7lb something, so not really big at all...

surprisenumber3 · 11/03/2009 14:01

no, the baby doesn't feel big. In fact my bump seems smaller than when DS1 was born.
I have also only put on 10 lb total myself.
This pregnancy is SO different to my previous pregnancies, I cannot even begin to explain. Maternity clothes are still too big yet I waddle because my pelvis hurts, I must look so strange when I walk

I haven't been tested for GD, have had the glucose urine tests though, but not a blood test.

I don't think the baby is big in the general scheme of things is it? Just bigger than my previous two.

Bleuravin · 11/03/2009 14:06

Seems like it. (Not that I know anything) I think it would be very strange to have a 6lb baby and only have put on 10lbs... but if you've not really grown perhaps it's just a compact pregnancy this time You're body could be really efficient with the pregnancy stuff this time My sister is only 5'5 and she had a 8lb baby last time...by the time they were estimating 6lbs she was groaning about how big and tight her belly felt... but we all know every pregnancy is different for every woman. So we'll just keep our fingers crossed it doesn't get too big for you to have a nice birth

OddEyes · 11/03/2009 14:09

Bleuravin · 11/03/2009 14:10

Does anyone else ever get days where rather than eating things, they just want to drink things? I wonder if some sort of those protien shakes would be good to drink or are they really not good for you/tasty? I'm not really hungry...but I do want to throw things down my gullet still...I just don't really want to EAT them... I fear on these days I don't get enough nutrients... I'm down a kg from just yesterday...

surprisenumber3 · 11/03/2009 14:13

thanks Bleu, I was working while preg with the other two, where we ate all day long, treats brought in by reps, lunches out most days etc. This time I work at home, am constantly running about after the boys, school, cubs, swimming, cornet lessons etc. Also had PE with DS1 so completely filled up with fluid, puffy face, ankles, fingers etc, put on 2.5 stone that preg even though I only got to 34 weeks! No PE with DS2 but put on 2.5 stone again, all wobbly fat

Fingers crossed for a 6-7 lb baby that I actually get out of my pelvis!! (shoe size is only a 4..didn't they used to judge how big your pelvis was by asking this??!!).

Schulte · 11/03/2009 14:15

Good afternoon all,

Thanks for asking after DD, she slept okay in between her coughing fits and seemed quite happy this morning so I sent her to nursery as usual (and felt quite bad about it but I was soooooo tired). Just phoned them for an update and they said she's perfectly fine so all fingers crossed tonight will be better and she's getting over her weird night time cough, whatever it is.

Re. maternity leave being holiday, I must admit I do consider the first few weeks of mine a bit of a holiday and am determined to really enjoy it until LO arrives. But then DD is in nursery 4 days a week, so I do get some proper me-time. If I had to run around after her it would be quite different!

Question for the freezer queens out there: When you freeze things like shepherds pie, do you freeze them BEFORE the baking stage? And what do you freeze them in, foil trays?

Lino ladies, watch it, I live in Surrey in a house with wooden floors and windows but the kitchen is Ikea so hope I am excused?

Gingersarah - my parents did a lot of shopping, cooking and cleaning for me when they came here 5 days after DD was born. They also cooked stuff for the freezer. AND they stayed in a B&B rather than our tiny house to give us a bit of breathing space. Not sure if you can ask that of your mum though?

Bleu - LOL at idea of everyone secretly having babies and not telling until BB has given birth sorry BB

Puzzle / LuLu - if Kingston can't get their act together and source some of those HIP forms, MIL suggested just sending a formal letter to the same address you'd send the form to, and ask them to regard this as your official claim. Not sure if it works but worth a try.

Okay I still haven't caught up with all of the thread so will post this now and keep reading... you lot are too chatty

Bleuravin · 11/03/2009 14:16

did they? so over here I'd be a 6-7 but back home i'd be a 8-9...hmmmm interesting. We'll say I'm a 7-8 then and hope that that means the baby will fall right out

surprisenumber3 · 11/03/2009 14:19

lol Bleu, my friend is a size 6 and had a 7 lb baby but her pelvis was too small to allow him through so she had to have an emergency caesarean so I don't we can rely too much on the shoe size/pelvis thing!

BoffinMum · 11/03/2009 14:19

WhatFreshHell, I think I noticed an old thread recently where you had remonstrated with me for wearing you out by advising you to attack the dustmite. Was that you, and did the regime work?

People, I went for a little walk today! I went from outpatients to the main concourse, bought groceries, loaded them into a shoulder bag, and then walked bag. In total 20 minutes walking. Yeah! First walk I have had for ages. Bushed now though.

Another announcement - I now have a new fridge and they have even given me a new 3-year guarantee with it. It is better than the old fridge. Very nice. Love John Lewis.

Nutty, I actually think you can do the VB. I am glad the mw has talked you through it. Let's hope she's there on the day.

Both boys are off sick today with upset tummies, but otherwise well, so we have had a nice day homeschooling and generally hanging out.

Swaliswan · 11/03/2009 14:23

Surprise - DD was born at 34+6 and was 6lb3oz I'll be 34+6 next friday and am dreading that day for some reason. If I can just get to 35+1, I'll be happy (35 weeks exactly is MIL's b-day and I'd never hear the end of it if Bean is born on her b-day!).

surprisenumber3 · 11/03/2009 14:23

Boffinmum - both my boys had upset tummy yesterday too. And DH has a perforated eardrum so I was playing nurse to everyone last night!

Congrats on the walk and brilliant about the new fridge!!

Bleuravin · 11/03/2009 14:24

Way to go Boffin So glad for you! A walk, a new fridge and things to go in it... sounds like pieces of heaven

surprisenumber3 · 11/03/2009 14:25

that was a big baby swali! Apparently 4 lb 9 at 34+5 was a nice weight! Was your DD born spontaneously at that time or were you induced? I had to have DS1 then because of PE and HELLP.

Swaliswan · 11/03/2009 14:30

Surprise - I got up out of bed at 6am thinking that the pressure I was feeling was because I needed to pee. I then thought that I'd left it too late and that I was peeing all over the floor but I couldn't stop it no matter how hard I tensed my floor. Then I waddled to the bathroom and more came out. At that point, I realised that I wasn't peeing but my waters were gushing out and the only reason that I realised that was because they were bright blood red (I do know that they should be clear so if this happens to you - phone the hospital straight away!).

surprisenumber3 · 11/03/2009 14:34

gosh Swali, that must have been scary, was everything okay?

I had meconium in my waters with DS2 and that was scary enough!

What had happened?

Swaliswan · 11/03/2009 14:38

DD was fine. We had 10 days in hospital - the first five with her on the NNU. No-one knows for sure what had happened. I may have had the placenta come away slightly causing the blood or it may be because I dilated very quickly and that the blood was coming from my cervix. There are other issues though including a family history of prem births for no apparent reason.

surprisenumber3 · 11/03/2009 14:39

We had 10 days in hospital too, 5 on SCBU and then 5 under a lamp because he had jaundice. Hope you're all ready this time then! I was all ready for DS2 six weeks early and then he was a week late - but at least I had a nice rest at the end!

frostyfrekkles · 11/03/2009 14:40

hello all! how's it going today?

I've been out walking by the river, last night i climbed a hill and yesterday went walking in the botanical gardens. Trying to get as much excersize as i can to make sure i have strength and stamina. and today i've actually done some unpacking! wooo hooo!

in other news we have started perineal massage in the frekkles household. do you think you're doing it wrong if you actually quite enjoy it?

Bleuravin · 11/03/2009 14:43

Just put a picture of rounded self on profile for all to see (but just for the day or so- I hate pictures of my self rounded or not)

Swaliswan · 11/03/2009 14:45

Oh, I keep on forgetting to tell you about my perineal massage disaster! It seems that I'm allergic to the Dr Hauschka oil. A purple, inflamed and itchy perineum is not a good look. I've decided that sex must be good for my perineum though so we're trying that instead

frostyfrekkles · 11/03/2009 14:45

ooh bleu, your bump looks like mine!

Bleuravin · 11/03/2009 14:46

hiya frekkles; good job on the keeping active; you're amazing.

Haven't sarted the perineal massage as I do not understand how it's to go really...but i cannot imagine it would not be somewaht stimulating
