Let the ramblings commence.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

purple, I grew up on a diet of pasta & pesto. Hell, I pretty much still just survive on that. I'm perfectly fine

purplemonkeydishwasher · 11/03/2009 10:20

because, springy my love, everyone LIES.

just wait until you start getting together with other new moms whose babies all sleep through and say their first words at 2 months. liars all!!

SpringySunshine · 11/03/2009 10:21

Funny? A funny thing? Really? You think that's funny?

purplemonkeydishwasher · 11/03/2009 10:21

at least there's green stuff in pesto! he used to love that actually. now it's ketchup and grated cheese. and brocolli actually. so not all bad.

purplemonkeydishwasher · 11/03/2009 10:22

lol

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 11/03/2009 10:23

Juw - nope your just popping round a friends for coffee technically

Swaliswan · 11/03/2009 10:24

Purple, how much mess can your DS make with brocolli? My DD seems to still be shedding teeny tiny pieces of it around the flat for days after having it. She does have a bath everyday so goodness knows where she hides it

SpringySunshine · 11/03/2009 10:26

& there's protein & calcium in cheese. He'll be fine. Can you sneak things in it, like bits of chicken or whatever?

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 11/03/2009 10:26

ROLF at goats for child substitutes

purplemonkeydishwasher · 11/03/2009 10:26

swali - he's pretty good with it. but then he IS 3 so i'd be concerned if it was still smeared everywhere. (his face is pretty well covered in ketchup most of the time though!)

purplemonkeydishwasher · 11/03/2009 10:30

actually while we're on the subject of kids eating...i just want to say that not every child takes food right away. DS lived on breastmilk, yogurt and cheerios for the first 18 months of his life. Now he eats and eats and eats and eats and eats (more than spaghetti and hcicken nuggets, really!). so my words of wisdom on this are this: don't stress about it.

just put that in the back of your mind and in 8 months cmoe back to it and remember.

Juwesm · 11/03/2009 10:34

But there will be FOOD! That is LUNCH!!!!!!!

Also, I have to take her DS round the block in the buggy whilst people come to view the house. I am being entrusted with someone else's child, in the outside world, in a village I don't know!

Swaliswan · 11/03/2009 10:35

Purple, I somehow doubt that DD will be anything other than a messy eater even when she is 3. I do like the advice about solids. All of a sudden, DD seems to have gone through her fussy phase with food and is willing to try lots of new things All of a sudden I have no excuse to feed her anything unhealthy.

I'm going to go now and try to do some housework (after I've eaten my second breakfast of porridge). I'm quite tempted to wander down to MacD's for lunch though. All this talk of MacD's is making me realise how much I fancy a good burger.

Swaliswan · 11/03/2009 10:39

Juw, it's easy when they are strapped into the buggy. All you have to do is not push the buggy into the path of a speeding car and all will be fine. You can deal with any screaming by either:

a) singing songs very loudly (I suggest Old MacDonald including the animal sounds)

b) ignoring it safe in the knowledge that it is someone else's child who you can give back

c) distracting the child (ooooo, look a car, a tree, a bird etc, etc)

d) bribing the child NB food is the best bribery

Juwesm · 11/03/2009 10:41

Excellent advice Swali, thanks

I have ironed my outfit and put make-up on! For I am going into the outside world!

SpringySunshine · 11/03/2009 10:49

I rarely go into the outside world anymore. I'm a bit apprehensive about going for a coffee with grown ups this afternoon I don't really know them & I just like to sit around in my dressing gown eating rubbish & talking about willies on the internet. I have to go out & pretend like I'm a real person with interesting things to say

On an unrelated note I think my cervix actually seems to be cooperating! I'm not sure, because I'm not very good at this cervix prodding business. But it feels hopeful. & even if it's not, the wishful thinking of it makes me a little happier

Claireykitten · 11/03/2009 10:52

Bloomin heck Juw an ironed outfit and make-up! Its times like this that make you realise just how much you kinda let yourself go when the outside world isnt part of the equation (sp?) Its just too much like hard work when no one is going to see you. Or is that just me that is a complete lazy slattern! On a good day I do attempt to make myself clean and presentable for DH before he comes home honest!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 11/03/2009 10:52

springy maybe don't mention the cervix prodding when you are out...

brettgirl2 · 11/03/2009 10:53

'Is it not the done thing to have sex in July?' hahahaha.

I feel guilty so am getting up now

SpringySunshine · 11/03/2009 10:54

Hey, if they want to be my friend they'll just have to accept me as I am. Cervix prodding & all

You might be right

Claireykitten · 11/03/2009 10:55

Then whether it is wishful thinking or not you keep poking and hoping as long as it makes you feel happy and positive! Dont be poking too much though or BB might start putting hexs on you again!!!

Claireykitten · 11/03/2009 10:56

And why would they not accept you as you are? We did! Or is that just that we are all kinda strange and would accept anyone?

SpringySunshine · 11/03/2009 11:00

Somehow it seems more reasonable to talk about cervix prodding on the internet when I don't have to look you all in the eye over my hot chocolate

& I doubt this baby's going anywhere any time soon. He refuses to stay engaged - he dips his head down, then pulls it out again after half an hour or so. Plus my contractions have slowed right down & I am only 35+4. I don't think BB has anything to worry about. & if I do have the baby, I'll just not tell her until she's got hers - she scares me!

Claireykitten · 11/03/2009 11:13

Sounds like a good idea Springy.

We dont quite know what she might do she is a very desperate lady!!!!!!!

gingersarah · 11/03/2009 11:29

Nutty, where is your other thread? Are you ok?

Swaliswan, that all sounds very frustrating. Nice about the shopping though.

I am just back from the MW, where all is well except of course no HiP forms. The elusive holy grail. Next appointment I will be 36 weeks and then they will talk properly about HB. I hope this is not too late... I bet the baby will be late anyway.

The longer days and the sense of NOT TOO LONG NOW are really having a great effect on my mood (or the jam doughnut I have just crammed into my fat face). Sorry to those of you who are dipping the other way.

My mum is visiting this weekend and she will ask me what help I would like from her after the baby comes. Please can experienced people tell me what I should ask? I have no idea. Will I want her straight away, or later? what else? She doesn't live near but will stay.
