Let the ramblings commence.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Kitty, some of them are a bit, aren't they? Nothing like in here - we're all good, funny mad It all got really strange & aggressive out of nowhere!

That's great Loving the thinking with the maroon towels

I don't think I'd be allowed to book in for a HB now, even if I wanted to (luckily I was too chicken in the first place) because of the possible CS issue, but I can see how much nicer it must be to have a MW who's really into it & is so supportive. Will you be live birth threading? You know you want to!

bronze, I hope you're okay, love xx

SpringySunshine · 10/03/2009 17:13

LuLu, YANBU. It doesn't matter who likes being brushed, it's DD's hairbrush for DD's hair - & it's a bit gross to share a hairbrush with a cat IMO. Even if your cat's really clean & free of fleas (as I'm sure it is!) it's still quite wrong & just feels unpleasant IYSWIM. Besides, I'm fairly sure there are specific cat brushes you can buy that are more effective & designed for the purpose? I've never owned a cat (yet - it's one of the first things I want when we get a place of our own!) so I'm not that knowledgeable about it, but I think I've seen them? Can't he get one of those?

LuLuBai · 10/03/2009 17:16

Maroon bath sheets @ £2.50 each sound excellent. All ours are very white and not ideal for postnatal days.

Juwesm · 10/03/2009 17:18

You can indeed get special cat brushes - often quite serious looking things with metal teeth. That being said, my first cat when I was wee really did love being brushed with my Hello Kitty hairbrush - though I don't believe I was using it anymore!

LuLuBai · 10/03/2009 17:18

The cat has a brush of his own. He hates it and it never gets used. Apparently he prefers DDs brush.

I thought it was a bit yucky too but DH seemed to think that I was being nasty to Billy and got all defensive of his cat.

It's such a stupid petty thing I can't believe I even let it get to me.

SpringySunshine · 10/03/2009 17:20

Also, LuLu, he could've at least yanked the fur out of it afterwards!

LuLuBai · 10/03/2009 17:21

Ah Ju - I'm sure I used my kiddy brushes on our cats when I was little too. Actually more likely I used my Barbie's brushes.

Yikes - one of the keys is coming off of this keyboard. Tis my mother's laptop (and pretty new). Anyone got a Sony Vaio and experience of keys coming loose and how to fix them?

LuLuBai · 10/03/2009 17:23
  • too right Springy. He could have at least destroyed the evidence.

He's so besotted by our grumpy old cat that he probably wouldnt bat an eyelid about sharing his toothbrush with him.

KittyCatIsGettingFat · 10/03/2009 17:28

Ewwww at sharing toothbrush with the cat!!! That's disgusting! Do you know where that tongue has been??? (the cat's, not your DH...)

SpringySunshine · 10/03/2009 17:30

I'm not sure about the Vaio, but on most laptops the keys have clips on that you can just push back into place. Maybe just prod at it a bit & see if it clicks back in?

& toothbrush sharing really might be going too far

Juwesm · 10/03/2009 17:30

Oh dear, DH is getting all nunky cos I'm spending too much time on here. Better appease him.

Juwesm · 10/03/2009 17:32

Ooh, forgot, before I leg it - just had phonecall from Kaz. She is fine, healing well, just on her way in to visit the twins. They are in the least intensive part of SCBU, and will probably be in for a week or so - just having a bit of trouble regulating their own temperatures and need to establish FF.

SpringySunshine · 10/03/2009 17:38

Yay for Kaz & the twins Bless them. It'll be so nice for her when they're home.

Hope your DH isn't too 'nunky' (nice word!)

BoffinMum · 10/03/2009 17:41

Springy, have looked at the other thread and frankly SM looked as though she was just sabotaging it, and being rude and personal, so I reported her post. They won't do anything but IMO she's a total tit, FWIW.

BTW Springy, you don't need anyone's permission to book in for a home birth, if you want one, but in your case I'd keep the hospital bag strategically positioned by the front door! You may have to transfer in if labour isn't progressing, but you'd have loads of notice of that. You really could give it a go if you wanted to. Talk to the nice mw and get a view (mention being happy to transfer in if labour fails to progress).

LuLuBai · 10/03/2009 17:43

'nunky' - lovely. never heard it before.

Key doesn't seem to click back in that easily. Maybe DH can sort it when he gets home.

Btw - DH hasn't actually shared a toothbrush with the cat. I just wouldn't put it past him.

Great news about Kaz's twins. I would be an absolute mess if I had to leave my baby in hospital and go home. I know it's the best thing for them, but when DD was first born I couldn't bear it if she was even out of sight [clingy mum emoticon].

AuldAlliance · 10/03/2009 17:43

Blimey, Springy, that AIBU thread is crazy. I shall remain huddled on here, I think, with occasional forays into Living Overseas for excitement.

BoffinMum · 10/03/2009 17:45

It probably sounds awful but I can imagine quite happily leaving this LO in hospital and pootling off home for some R and R. But then I have been in a funny place with it all since November.

SpringySunshine · 10/03/2009 17:50

Boffin, I did think she was being a bit odd - but I expected some of that when posting on AIBU. I'm a big girl & I can take it Heaven knows what happened after that point, though.

I may ask the MW about the HB situation, but won't push for it - I really don't mind doing it in hospital as it's how I'd always imagined it before MN anyway. I didn't even know HB existed! Especially as I think I'm pretty much guaranteed to get a birthing pool at the hospital if I want it - there are 2 & they've never both been in use at the same time.

& I think I'll be exactly the same, LuLu - I'm really paranoid that someone will steal him or swap him, even though I know full well that neither can / will happen! I'll be watching him like a hawk & only leaving for a couple of minutes to shower & so on when I have someone to take over watching.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 10/03/2009 17:51

Springy - PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE!!!! dont cut down your mn time like they said!! i would be v they are a bit loony anyway lol you need a tin hat, sticks, armour and everything to survive!!!

Juw - hooray for Kaz & her twins

i want this baby out now please!! am so desperate i would even risk bb's wrath lol

tristaleejac · 10/03/2009 17:52

springy that's horrible the way that thread kicked off. Well done for keeping your cool, I would have been hiding behind sofa!

SpringySunshine · 10/03/2009 17:53

Boffin, you're entitled to feel like that - you desperately need some R&R of the kind which is impossible for you whilst pregnant, or whilst looking after a newborn!

I was wondering - I know that you don't love your children any less the more you have, but do you think you get less panicky? Like you wouldn't be paranoid about having your baby swapped at the hospital, for example, once it's your 3rd or 4th? Or does that always stay with you?

BoffinMum · 10/03/2009 17:54

I have told the culprit off on the other thread. I feel somehow like I have just lit the fuse to a firework pointing at me. But her behaviour was extraordinary, and cliquey as well.

SpringySunshine · 10/03/2009 17:56

Haha, cut down on my MN time? I won't be cutting down on my MN time when the baby's here , let alone just because people chose to completely miss my point on the internet Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. I knew when I posted it that I'd get some of that - I wouldn't have started it if I was feeling delicate

LuLuBai · 10/03/2009 17:57

I was totally paranoid about DD getting knicked from the hospital. There were so many random people wandering in and out and no apparent security. When I checked out myself I went to the desk and said "I'm going home now" and they just looked at me all not-bovvered and said "OK then". I didn't have to sign anything or prove that the baby I was scarpering with was my own (could easily have swiped the one from the next door bed while the mum was sleeping - but didn't like the look of him )

SpringySunshine · 10/03/2009 17:58

Ooh, Boffin, I hope they don't turn on you

It was strange, though - I think someone must've mentioned it was kicking off on another thread somewhere for them all to come flooding on like that. I'm dying to know who the namechanger was!
