So far all I have found is suggestions of a urinary tract infection. Have the hospital ruled this out?

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 01/03/2009 15:43

Bingo look what i found

So there is every likelihood that the pains will cease then.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 01/03/2009 16:01

i dont know i'ts a bit confusing, if she has a incompetent cervix then prob not, but if thats not the case then its possible they will. Thats how i have read it anyway (i dont really get it tbh) but it does look likely they will send her home if the crevix doesnt get over 2cm during the day & night. which isnt likeley as shes not dilated at all.

am confused.

puzzle my first reaction reading that was infection too.

Sound s like shes got a competent cervix so it won't be that.

My moneys on infection which if they take a sample and swab her they'll be able to find out. Her waters haven't broken though so they should just treat the infection in the hope it'll stop the contractions rather than leaving her to birth which they would do if they had popped.

BoffinMum · 01/03/2009 16:37

Some Boff thoughts on all this. It sounds like they are actually being quite reasonable, considering she is 34 weeks and all that, but Springy probably doesn't want to hear that. It's probably not going to be straightforward for them at this stage.

I think from reading the protocol and also having done a bit of research myself on the internet, a fibronectin swab and possibly a swab for other things, and checking whether she has a UTI would be best, then dealing with pain relief issues and possibly advising her to go home and have a warm bath and put her feet up.

Time will tell how much of a problem this all is, but there is bound to be an element of hospital induced stress here at the moment, and those of us who have done this before know that this can lead to painful contractions in their own right.

Poor old Springy is getting into a bit of a state, which I can understand. I think demanding a consultant appointment in the next couple of days might be a good idea as well. Perhaps if they also promise to induce her very soon then she might be a bit happier.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 01/03/2009 17:04

Thanks guys, i will let her know and give her your thoughts. xx thank you

it doesn't help that they lost her trace from last night and still havent given her a wristband. i think the incompetence and the waiting will be getting to her more than the situation itself.

so frustrating for her.

looks like she may be home soon so hopefully she will be on later.

LOL i feel frustrated, goodness only knows how she must be feeling. what a mental weekend

They do sound sloppy, but all the more reason to see the consultant and have a proper conversation.

BabyBolat · 01/03/2009 17:38

Hey just woke up for a nap!

Poor poor springy - what a nightmare.

It's a really really difficult situation. On the one hand, if she does have an infection, the last thing they will want to do is get George out and put him at risk (especially as he would be a fair bit early too!) but on the other hand surely they have to do something to make her more comfortable as 6 weeks of this will be a nightmare - It was actually my mw threat of enforced bedrest that made me have the chat with my boss about cutting hours - just not how you imagine spending the last of your pregnancy,

I think like you have all said the biggest problem is the hospitals approach to all this.

  1. She was immediately treated by bitch from hell who did nothing but blame her for the situation (when clearly she was just jealous to be getting any herself!!!)
  2. They seem to have failed to keep regular observation of her
  3. They seem to have failed to do basic swabs and urine tests which (in the case of me and Boff) was done within the first 15 minutes of our situations
  4. They seem to be putting her under more stress by telling her she will have to wait until 40+ weeks for a cs - which if springy wants to give birth naturally is a horrible thought (to be stuck like this for 6 weeks and then have it done that way!)

I kind of agree with Boff - technically they are doing the right thing - they shouldn't bring the baby out if it's not ready but the hospital and the circumstances are not helping her stress levels which in return are not helping her pain levels! And I am pretty sure she will not be looking forward to this place when she has to go in again!

The iron tablets are possibly for her energy levels - as the contractions are probably leaving her exhausted.

Sorry to ask a dumb question but what is a trace?

BoffinMum · 01/03/2009 17:39

Maybe Springy ought to have a look around this place

bronze · 01/03/2009 17:40

the trace on the ctg
they'll be using it to see if the baby is getting stressed more than anything

BabyBolat · 01/03/2009 17:40

Oh yay - I actually think being at home will be a good thing! If for nothing but her stress / comfort levels.

BoffinMum · 01/03/2009 17:41

Trace is the printout from the machine with the pattern of contractions on it.

BoffinMum · 01/03/2009 17:44

Trainee doula for Springy?

bronze · 01/03/2009 17:45

bloody hell I want one though I probably know as much as she does

BabyBolat · 01/03/2009 17:49

Oh ok thanks!! LOL that I have had two of these now and still didn't know what they were!!

I think that place looks great, Springy should definitely give them a call and explain the situation and see what they say.
Think in her situation a HB wouldn't be a good idea but that place looks like a happy medium (ish) as I am pretty sure that labour ward will be the LAST place she wants to be when George comes along!

OOoh don't you just want to go and give her a hug and take the pain away so she can get some rest! I know if it was me I would be so over-tired and frustrated that I would probably just be in tears ALOT! (Says a lot for my labour prospects!)

BabyBolat · 01/03/2009 17:50

I bet Springy does although I bet she wants her mum more! bless her being so far away!

bronze · 01/03/2009 17:56

Oh bless her. Where are her parents? I can sympathise there mine are 1500 miles away and I dread not having them here.
Could hers get here if she needed them?

BoffinMum · 01/03/2009 17:56

I have a lovely Doula lined up for a 'babymoon' - when we realised I was going to need a major lying in period like the olden days because of the SPD, we suddenly realised this justified getting one!! For health reasons!!

But we couldn't afford a birth doula as well and tbh my midwives do a lot of that stuff anyway, plus having had three already I imagine there is not a lot I couldn't do for myself by now.

But I wish I could magic one up for Springy as it would be much better than doula-ing by text, as we tried to do.

SmuttyNuttyTaff · 01/03/2009 17:58

am v tempted to organise and pay for the doula to go to her now and be on call for her from now too. they seem to be so poo at the hospital at least the doula would be able to explain whats going on or at least push for an answer and put her mind at rest at least.

BB yup i would love to go give her hugs.

Update shes being discharged!!!!! hooray

YAY

bronze · 01/03/2009 18:01

Boffin I know what you mean about 'having had three already I imagine there is not a lot I couldn't do for myself by now'. I think what I really want is a slave for after who will do all the housework and keep an eye on the others, do the school run etc(and keep dh in line)
