Here ya go, new thread! We're almost there!!!!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Naat · 06/03/2009 14:10

Tibsy Yes! I'm due on the 12th

Yum!! I want cakes! I'm soooooo lazy for that kind of things (baking) but I guess that will change as soon as the baby turns 1 or 2 hahaha

tibsy · 06/03/2009 14:34

naat usually a bit lazy myself in that dept, but thought i should make an effort for dd. she had great fun!!!

LittleSarah · 06/03/2009 14:42

tibsy - Well one of the guy in my office has said I should go home twice (and that I look dreadful!), without prompting, so I think I shall take off soon. My manager is locked in meetings but I'm sure she won't mind.

I also have a regular midwife at my clinic who seems extremely capable (and apparently she is) but like you tibsy haven't particularly 'clicked' with. Still, I had unknown midwives at my last labour and did fine, was so much in my own wee world I hardly noticed!

Oh, and check this out, apparently there was some big argument going on between some of the members of my midwife team last week and one of them had a heart attack! That's how stressful their job is!

All I know is it wasn't 'mine'.

tibsy · 06/03/2009 14:48

littlesarah get on home you little trooper... i ended up having 2 MW's i'd never met for my last labour too, didnt pay them much mind either, too busy concentrating on the job in hand
thats astounding re. the heart attack, but i can quite imagine, think thats why 'my' MW is so po faced (stress) and think shes relatively new to the job must be hard to set out in a career that you are really looking forward to, to find that the reality is nothing like you imagined (thats my interpretation anyway )

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 15:58

Afternoon all.

Heart scan was a doggle and no anomalies found.

Got to hear the baby's heartbeat for the first time, that was so very cool!

Everyone try to have a nice relaxing weekend!

OP posts:
Naat · 06/03/2009 15:59

Yey for you, Tee!!! Glad to hear that!

ermintrude13 · 06/03/2009 16:01

Tee good news - sounds like they're taking excellent care of you, checking everything out, and so nice to be reassured.

It's turning into a gorgeous evening here - blue skies and sunshine . Hope the weekend follows suit.

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 17:45

So I received my Tommee Tippee order today.

Am I the only one who thinks a breast pump looks like some sort of medieval torture device?

Also, DH looked at it, put the suction bit on his hand and said 'its not a very strong suction!' To which replied 'its to replicate a baby, not a hoover!!'

Totally raining here, ermintrude! Been raining all day.

OP posts:
Naat · 06/03/2009 17:57

oh my! hahahaha

Tee, you've just made me laugh so hard!!!

The part about the hoover was too much hahaha

Anyway, yes, it does look like a torture device and I guess the experienced ladie will post later probably saying it actually IS one.

DH is coming home now and I'll probably have news about the flat later, I'll let you know.

MrsMcJnr · 06/03/2009 20:27

Glad it all went well today Tee My TT order hasn't turned up at my MILs yet

Ok, savage breast pump story - you may remember that I tried mine out before DS was born (when I was 41 weeks plus and getting fed up of waiting) well I must have had the suction on too hard in the wring place as it took some skin off and it was sore ? moral: make sure the pump is properly in place before starting it up!

Tee2072 · 06/03/2009 20:43

Good advice mrsmcj. I actually sent them an email today asking where it was, as there is no lead time anywhere on their website. Apparently it can take up to 10 days.

And then it was here! Very weird!

Naat · 06/03/2009 20:52

News on this front, ladies. I'll try to be short

DH called the agency today, the girl who handled our flat no longer works there so he spoke to her boss. Basically she left (God knows when) and either didn't tell anyone about what we had arranged or they're just acting as if, IYKWIM.

Anyway, the man said they'd help us, they'd put our flat on the market now and start showing us other properties. The thing is, this agency is soooo tiny they don't have enough properties to offer us as an alternative and don't know if they'll be as helpful as they say they're going to be when they realise this and that we'll go rent with someone else... but well...

I'm much calmer now, if something comes up before May, then we'll move, if not, then I'll do what you guys suggested, plan everything with time, call these 2 friends of DH and move on 31st May. Thanks again for all the support and advice.

MrsMcJnr, what you just posted is burnt forever in my brain hahaha, I'll make sure it's properly placed Hope your order comes soon!!!

Have a lovely evening, ladies!

MrsMcJnr · 06/03/2009 22:05

Sorry to hear that the news wasn't better Naat as you say, its down to fate now, hope it all works out for you.

We were meant to hear from the owner of the flat at the top of our list today but didn't. The sticking point with a lot of the flats here is that the owners want to sell them really rather than rent and I am not agreeing to live somewhere that is being shown to buyers or which I'll have to move out of in a hurry. Had viewings of our own house in Scotland when DS was tiny and it was very stressful and I won't out myself through that again.

Naat · 06/03/2009 22:38

Yeah, I completely understand, MrsMcJnr. Specially now with a baby coming (and you have another one already), you think about dates much more, and the stress that comes with a move is quite a lot to be doing it too often. Hope you hear from that owner soon.

tibsy · 07/03/2009 07:58

morning all lovely ladies

tee that is great news, you must be so relieved. really pleased for you

naat sorry the news wasnt more positive my love. hoping that it all works out for the best

you too mrsmc. hope you have some positive news soon

well, am off to do my last stint at work today (sorry, not wanting to seem insenstive to those who are still going to be at work ) just so relieved to have made the decision. my bump is getting a little big to be massaging anyone anyway!!

hope you all have lovely weekends and enjoy some sunshine. catch up soon

Tee2072 · 07/03/2009 08:13

Morning all.

Had a not great night. Woke up way to early with some tummy ache, but feel better now.

naat and mrsmcj sorry to hear about the flat issues. I hope it all sorts out soon.

I'm off to the shops today to buy some baby things!!! My family is so far away, I need to stock up rather than count on anyone else buying me things. My mum says she's sending a few things, but will mostly buy stuff when she's here after LO arrives.

Have a nice day everyone!

borriebear · 07/03/2009 08:54

Hello all sorry its been a while since i replied but have been very busy this week

Thank you for all for your kind words and advice on Wednesday. I am feeling much better now, not a single tear so far And things are starting to feel a bit brighter!

bigcar the big bar of choccie really did the trick and I am now certain it should be made available on the NHS for hormonal pregnant mums to be I have looked into child tax credits and working tax credits and its looking alot brighter, thank you

loooouise Thanks for reminding me that there are some amazing times ahead, even without lots of cash

I know it was a while ago but I too have one of those magic pillows and its amazing, dp doesnt always think so as he is crushed against the wall to fit it in! I got mine from lidl a few weeks ago, not sure if they are still there but might be worth a look.

Am off to a second hand baby sale today, looking for a moses basket. First thing that I have bought (even if mil thinks it will have lots of germs and be disgusting...I am going to clean it!) Anyhow am very excited

Hope you are all feeling better this morning, enjoy your Saturdays

June2009 · 07/03/2009 10:59

I went round the charity shops in the closest main street to us and didn't find anything suitable but someone on another thread suggested to have a look at charity shops in posh areas for second hand stuff.
Tee Happy shopping :D I can't think of anyone who will give us stuff either so we're stocking up too.
naat & Mrmcjr fingers crossed it'll all work out for you.

re: breastpumps, did you guys get a manual one or an electric one?
I was leaning towards getting an electric one, so that it would go faster and easier, but I haven't really read on it yet.
Been too busy trying to choose a sling!!! Dh only likes the babybjorn as all the other ones are a bit girly for him.

We're signing on the car today, the fininacing has been agreed. It still needs bits and bobs so we're only getting it in 2 weeks time, so exciting, that'll make a huge difference to my 11yo 2 door car :D

Happy shopping everyone!

June2009 · 07/03/2009 11:02

ps: I think this is the weekend Juicy is going to Paris for her valentine's pressie to dh, I hope she can catch up with us next week.

Naat · 07/03/2009 11:18

Morning ladies!

June, yey! So happy for you that the car thing went as planned! Thanks for the crossed fingers .

I have a manual one, as someone gave it to us, let's see what the other girls say...

Borrie, good to know you're feeling better

Tibsy, congrats on your last day!!! Freeeeeedom!!!

Tee, sorry about your bad night but enjoy your shopping today!!!

Hope we get some news from Juicy soon...

We're going to the Mamas&Papas factory outlet here in Huddersfield today. We put our names down for a reduced car seat in any dark colour(from 115 they leave them at 65 pounds), as we didn't know it was a girl before, and now we'll tell them any colour is fine. That shop is great, things are reeeeally reduced (considering its M&P), you get things for 50% and even 80% less, and it's not because they are damaged, but because they're things that have been on display in M&P shops so they are "second class" for them hahaha.

And tomorrow we have, please don't judge me, our first session of hypnobirthing. I looked into it a few weeks ago because I have a veeeeery low threshold for pain and I'm feeling really frightened about labour. I heard/read that hypnobirthing can really help for that so we're going to give it a try. I'll tell you about it tomorrow .

Have a lovely Saturday, ladies!!

ermintrude13 · 07/03/2009 11:23

Morning all,

Naat, at least you finally got to talk to someone, even if it's not a perfect solution. Hope they get someone in, and that if not that baby stays put until due date!

tibsy didn't realise you were a massuese! How lovely to stop work now, enjoy these last months. I'm freelance but have deadlines I need to meet so may well be working up to the birth, but I'm at home and it's work I love so nothing like having to travel into somewhere and put in 8 hours

Tee have great fun shopping and hope you get some kip tonight.

borriebear nobody will know if you spend your £190 'good food' grant on choccies . Hope you find a moses basket - I'm using the one that my mum got, along with a crib, for my youngest two sisters. We get a complete 'kit' from mum which we've passed round between us, including loads of little sheets she hemmed, and she's dressed the crib in white cotton broderie anglaise and made a blue floral and a navy teddy print set of dressings for the moses basket - really cute, and they've now done for those 2 sisters and 7 of the next generation. They're 28 yrs old and going strong so any second-hand one you get won't have had quite so much wear!

Babies need a few benign germs, too much hygiene is bad for our health

June good idea about posh areas - a good clue is if they have an Oxfam Books and Music store. How exciting to get a new car, 4 doors will revolutionise your life!

Breastpumps - I used Avent manual but I think MrsMc has recommended the Medela swing electric one. Maybe it's because I like to stay in control, but I always preferred manual - pretty much down to what suits you, as ever. Shame you can't really try them out before buying - but when I suggested that most of us won't need them for the first month or two some ladies pointed out that they helped build supply if they had a problem early on, so it probably is handy to have one in. Can you borrow/buy a manual one (Ebay?) and see how you want to proceed?

Sunny day here, hope you have good restful Saturdays.

Tee2072 · 07/03/2009 13:03

Hello all

I had a very satisfying morning shop. Some cute stuff, some practical stuff. A nice balance.

The real steal was a fluffy blanket at Primark for £2.00. I realize it will probably fall apart at first wash, but it has an elephant on it! I collect elephants, so I couldn't resist!

The breast pump I got is manual. It wasn't that expensive, so if I hate it, I won't mind replacing it.

Right, couple of quick questions about maternity pay.

Got forms to fill in from temp agency, one general SMP one and one about returning to work. Now although I plan to go back to work I won't be going back to agency, I want to get a 'proper' job or go freelance... therefore should I just ignore 2nd form and tick the box that says 'not returning to work' on first form? After all I'm entitled either way...

I am going to phone the agency on Monday to check but thought I'd ask you guys first. I told my manager I would not be going back but I think the people that do all SMP stuff are from HQ so I'm assuming this guy just assumed I was going back.

Another thing I saw on the form was a question asking when I wanted it to started and it kind of looks like I start it anytime from mid March to when baby is due. However I am only working until the end of March so I thought I had to start it then to coincide... can I start it later do you know, even if I've stopped working?

You see, I could actually manage without SMP til June as I still get my student loan and help from uni (with childcare) til then.

Again, I'll ask this guy on Monday but if you guys have an knowledge/advice do let me know!

lauraloo09 · 07/03/2009 13:53

afternoon all I hope everyone is well

tee sorry you didn't get a good sleep but yey on you getting some stuff for baby, when i'm not feeling good or feeling tired there's nothing than baby shopping to cheer me up

naat & mrsmcjnr shame you've not had better new about your flats/houses, here's hoping something gets sorted soon for you both x

june glad you got the car sorted, must be a load off your mind x

borrie glad your feeling a little better and enjoy the baby sale, fingers crossed you find something lovely

littlesarah not sure about the SMP but i'm sure you need to start SMP when you finish work for maternity leave...the guy you see on monday will be able to direct you better.

Just a quick update from me...finally i got a good nights sleep 7 1/2 hours without waking up, I didn't even have pains in my arms or legs...I was so happy when I woke up this morning

I am officially 25 weeks today...only 15 to go

to everyone else I have forgotten I hope you have a wonderful Saturday afternoon, try not to spend too much money

daisy5 · 07/03/2009 14:40

27 weeks today. Last trimester . Just had a quick catch up. Am super busy at the moment, and super tired today after being out last night.

naat - let me know what you think of the Huddersfield M&P - I drove past once and had forgotten it was there. Especially interested in a recliner chair for feeding and a chest of drawers/changing table. Do they have many of those? If they did, it might be worth making the trip over.

Even if you don't rent from this agency, they would still benefit from you showing the place to prospective tenants and making it look homely/talking it up etc?

Also, just remembered that my friend got major work done to their house that was never complete when the baby came along. They managed to get the wall put back on, and a staircase put in one week before due (she did put her foot down about having a staircase, as climbing the ladder with a baby was going to be v. difficult) but otherwise it was a building site with everything in boxes and builders there most days - and she had her first baby!!! All the works were only completed not long before dd's first birthday.

mrsmdjnr - so sorry about the flat. Given the current economic climate, can you not insist that you rent for a minimum period. Are they not just as desperate for tenants?

Thanks both for offering to view my photos and give ideas. I will put them up on Monday.

ermintrude - thanks for reassurance. It hasn't helped my peace of mind that Thumper has been super quiet since!!!

Must go, chaos is reigning next door.
