daisy5 The spraymount won't have got through to the baby. I know a couple of graphic designers who used it all the time (in the old days before DTP!) including through pregnancy and they were extremely slapdash in their use of it! Pg does make one worry unduly - I ate salami in a sandwich yesterday and then thought oh no, what have I done, cured meat is risky. And then I thought of all the pregnant continental women who tuck into their platters of parma ham, speck, dolcelatta etc. and calmed down.

tibsy how nice to know a teenage DS needn't be nightmarish. He's a dream at 6 while his big sis already has teenage tendencies at 10, so I'd rather not have two grumpy faces around for years and years...

Naat the pillows are pricey, so I was glad mine came free . You can do the same thing with a number of normal pillows but they fall away in the night and are much trickier to position, so if you have backache and can't get comfy at night I really do think these long pillows are good. Useful for breastfeeding and supporting you sitting up in bed post-natally too. Or for putting down the middle of the bed if you're in a mood with your OH... I can think of all sorts of uses . They're filled with tiny polystyrene balls I think, so can be plumped up where necessary but are also easy to manoeuvre. Do you have any friends or family who might have one hidden away somewhere? The covers are washable so they're ok to share!

LittleSarah · 04/03/2009 10:14

God I want one of those pillows!

I don't have insomnia as such but my nose is so stuffy I feel I can hardly breathe and that makes getting to sleep very hard.

Right must transcribe interviews before the next one at 11am Really looking forward to some nice relaxing time at pregnancy yoga today!

tibsy · 04/03/2009 10:15

thanks naat

daisy try not to worry. i'm sure bubba will be fine. its such a responsibility this pregnancy lark int it?

lauraloo09 · 04/03/2009 10:21

ermintrude thats great about your pillow, take it is really comfy?

Was thinking of bying a suport pillow from mothercare, the big long one which costs around £30 do you guys think it would help with my pains at night?

This is it

ermintrude13 · 04/03/2009 10:28

lauraloo the one I have is this. It's long, like the Mothercase one, but rather than being polyester filled, the 'pearls' (tiny polystyrene ball thingies) make it easy to get certain bits firmer than others, and it will be useful for supporting baby when s/he starts sitting up etc - it's quite hefty, so can hold shape. The other famous one is Dream Genii which has a very specific way of making you lie because of how it's shaped and is supposed to be v good.

They do cost a bomb though.

Naat · 04/03/2009 10:33

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeally tempted to get one of those pillows now...

The good thing is that they can be used both for you AND for the baby when breastfeeding... So you don't need to buy one of the little ones specifically for that as well... Loved the alternative uses you thought of, Ermin haha

LittleSarah, enjoy your yoga!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 04/03/2009 10:39

I've got two of those bolster pillows and sleep in the middle of them at night. DH isn't too impressed though as he feels like there is a barrier, but I really couldn't sleep without them. I got mine off Ebay during last pregnancy for about a tenner each with covers. They are brilliant, especially for the SPD, and you can support your bump too. Here's a similar one They've gone up a bit since last time, but still cheaper than Mothercare. Can't recommend it enough!

Still feel achey and shattered. Thank God there isn't long left 'til I leave work!

ermintrude13 · 04/03/2009 10:45

Ooh, those are good pillow offers on Ebay. They've got Theraline and DreamGenii as well as memory foam and polyster-filled, all for much cheaper than on other sites.

When are you leaving work Ineed? Now I'm self-employed it makes no difference, but with both other DC I worked until 3 wks before due date and remember it was such a struggle in the final few weeks - although more time with the babies, so I didn't regret it. Hopefully the weather will be getting spring-like; that helps

chocciedooby · 04/03/2009 11:47

wow wow wow. I can't keep up with you all these days!
Still have 3 pages to read but wanted to say hi to everyone and welcome to the newcomers

Daisy - Loved your honest post about arguments/disagreements. You are so right!

As for dp's going on stags etc, well I would do my best to nip that one in the bud if you can. I would accept the April 1 but definately not the July One! You do have to start as you mean to go on....once baby comes along...have to warn you... a lot of mens social lives just carry on as normal whilst we stay at home with stinky nappies and dirty bibs. etc. Thats just the way it is and thats why it is soooo important to make sure you plan ahead special things to do for yourselves, like a pamering facial, a girlie lunch at the weekend etc.

Sorry - don't mean to paint a gloomy picture as having your new baby will be so beautiful and special. Just make sure you make time for mummy too

Going to keep reading now....

Me - Still have bad back. Woke again last night with severe stomach pains followed by severe diahria AGAIN. Called the DR this morning and he says I must be picking up tummy bugs all the time I am basically completely run down and have asked dh to step up his support (even though he is stressed with job at the mo).
It was DS2's 4th birthday yesterday and I did a party at home for 16 lo's. It went very well (the entertainer made a huge difference; couldn't have coped otherwise)but I am shattered from the clean up, days on end organising, food perp etc. Dh couldn't make it so it was a challenge to do it alone.

chocciedooby · 04/03/2009 12:07

Juicy so sorry to hear you are still getting pains. Hope you get some answers today. Please keep us posted on how you are.I really feel for you.

I am not getting leaky nipple yet but am suffering from some nausea again. In fact I have been all along but its always when I am tired and that is quite often.

Can I ask, is anyone feeling quite swollen down below??? . My lady parts seem to be much bigger than usual obviously from all of the pressure but I don't remember experiencing this before. I have also been getting ots of presure pains. Anyone else finding it difficult to stand for long periods of time or walk very far? Do you think this is baby No3. syndrome?

As for S.E.X. Well whats that????!!!! Only kidding. I have actually been feeling up for it much more in this pg than the other 2 but dh gets put off by my ever growing bump. We did it when we went away for the night but no action since. It's probably working out at about 2 times a month (and thats a good month)!.

insywinsyspider · 04/03/2009 12:09

hello all - I'm being brave and jumping back in after not being on for ages but you guys are so chatty I'll get lost very quickly I'm sure!

Naat - slings.... I had a baby bjorn (although mine was 2nd hand from NCT as new it was about 15 pounds) for ds1 which was great for out and about, for ds2 (19mo gap) I thought I'd end up carrying him more so got a baba sling off ebay which baby can lie in from newborn and can be used for breastfeeding, thought it would be better for baby's back lying down and dh refused to wear anything too 'hippy' so this was great option, as it was ds2 was very windy and hated lying down so I got a calin bleu tie on sling which was great, could use it longer than baby bjorn too. Baba sling has been great since ds2 could sit up unaided as if rushing into shop and don't want to get buggy out can just throw them in that - still using it and he is 14 months so worth the money

Not following any of other conversation but hope any of you struggling with illnesses get on the mend soon x

insywinsyspider · 04/03/2009 12:13

x posts with you choccie but yes I too can sympathise with swollen bits spoke to mw about it and she said to be expected with 3 babies in 3 years but its uncomfortable and does make me feel very unattractive (not that I show it off but very concious of my bits at mo) got aching espitomoty scar (from ds1) to add to list of complaints too

do your pelvic floor ladies... and keep reminding me - worried I'm going to have to start buying tena pads sometimes I just don't think I'm going to make loo on time!

ermintrude13 · 04/03/2009 12:23

Naat I used a baby bjorn sling for my 2 and the same one has since 'done' 3 nieces and is on its way back to me. DH and I both found it comfy. Someone's given me a ring sling too but I haven't worked out how to fasten it yet

choccie I have 'fullness in the parts' too. Feels like the baby is quite low-lying and that all the pressure from the inside is having an effect down below. I had my last DC 6.5 yrs ago so it's not the same as insy's 3 babies in 3 years scenario (that's going it some, girl don't know how you cope!) but must just get worse with each preg.

Someone - sorry can't remember who - asked about 3rd pregnancies and whether they're different from nos 1 and 2. Don't think there were any replies, but am hoping there are no horror stories...

Naat · 04/03/2009 12:25

Thank you so much Insy for the sling advice. I loved the baba sling and the calin bleu one... It's good to know that they were both useful to you. I'm bending towards the baba one, let's see what DH says.

I was about to ask you all how important the kegel exercises were in reality, and after the latest posts I see they are quite important... I NOW feel like I'm losing it when I sneeze, and I haven't even given birth for the first time yet!!! I'm in trouble

Naat · 04/03/2009 12:25

x post! Thanks, Ermie!

chocciedooby · 04/03/2009 12:41

Incy and Ermintrude its good to know it seems to be quite normnal then, especially with baby no.3. My last child was born 4 years ago so quite an age gap too but I suppose this is what my mother meant when she said "oh I always hoped none of my daughters would go for 3"! Our bits and peices must have taken quite a basking already so I now know how important those pelvic floor exercises are. I am just so idle about them....

chocciedooby · 04/03/2009 12:42

Please excuse my typos. I am just not my normal self at all. The brain is all mush.

LittleSarah · 04/03/2009 13:21

Choccie - Hope you get a bit more help, and rest! Well done with the party.

Naat I got a zolowear ring sling last time which I loved and will used again this time website here zolowear.
I really like the look of those baba slings too I must admit!

bigcar · 04/03/2009 16:47

Afternoon all

Nice to see you back insy!

Juicy, hope alls well x

Choccie, impressive party

No horror strories from me about dc3! My 3rd pregnancy was fairly much the same as the first 2, nothing eventful. I had a retained placenta after a straightforward, quick delivery which was a bit of a pain (literally!) but then the first 2 deliveries didn't go to plan either, so I would say normal for me. The consultant I saw last week kindly pointed out that pregnancy gets harder the more you have how kind of her

Gtt all over and done now! I was soooo hungry by the time they took the last lot of bloods and desperate for a cup of tea!

Must remember those pelvic floor exercises!

borriebear · 04/03/2009 17:39

Hello, I havent writen for a while either but I have been keeping up with all thats been going on. Today I have had a pretty depressing day at the Citizens Advice Beaurau. The lady was lovely and very appologetic but it looks like Im not entitled to any SMP or Maternity Allowance and even the 2 weeks incapacity benefit I thought I could get...turns out that I cant. I managed to hold it together in the room, as I knew it wasnt the volunteers fault, but was in floods of tears within seconds of leaving the offfice. Im pretty emotional at the best of times at the moment!

Turns out, because I left the country to travel I havent paid enough NI to get anything at all (and we missed out on Maternity Allowance by 2 weeks!) So now we have to rely on my DP wages, and he is a freelance graphic designer so not exactly regular money! On top of that we are temporarily staying with my parents and are trying to find somewhere we can afford to live!!!!

Sorry for the rant but you have all been a massive help with your posts over the last few weeks, when you have had exactly the same problems/insomnia/aches and pains etc Thank you I know there are people worse off than us but that just sets me off again!

Tee2072 · 04/03/2009 17:39

Hi all. Totally stressed at work as I get ready for our big 10th Anniversary dinner tomorrow, so forgive me if I get very behind on the thread!

I did want to ask about slings as well. I really was wanting one but then after I fell last week all I could think was, what if the baby was born and in a sling and I fell! Right on its head!!

So has anyone every fallen while wearing a sling?

OP posts:
Naat · 04/03/2009 17:51

Borriebear, so sorry to hear about that... It seems so unfair you can't be entitled to it for just two weeks... I know what it is to live on a budget, where in the country do you live now?

Tee, sending strength for you to cope with it all from here...

Bigcar, I'm glad you survived your loooong morning at the doc's. When do you get the results?

LittleSarah, thanks for the link! Now comes the time to choose one! haha

Naat · 04/03/2009 17:52

I now realise I should have said "because of just two weeks"

bigcar · 04/03/2009 17:57

Tee, no, never fallen with baby in a sling!

Borrie, sorry to hear you've had a crap day, do you have a large bar of chocolate to hand? Have you asked about the health in pregnancy grant, don't know if the same rules apply to claim? Once the baby arrives you may be able to claim tax credits as well as child benefit. I know child benefit isn't a massive amount, but in the words of a well known supermarket, every little helps!

Which reminds me, tesco had a lot of their avent stuff reduced today, I think the steam steriliser has £10 off.

bigcar · 04/03/2009 18:00

X posts naat thanks! They only call if there's a problem, so should hear in 3 - 5 days, or not hopefully
