Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Tee2072 · 03/03/2009 15:33

Afternoon ladies!

Just got back from my OB and Endo appointment. Nice thing about my Antenatal clinic is that all of the OB consultation rooms have ultrasound machines so I get scanned at almost every visit! Baby is perfectly normal in there, heart beating away, arms waving, legs kicking!

Endo also happy with my blood sugar levels.

Also, found out that the detailed heart scan on Friday is indeed because of the diabetes. OB was that I hadn't been told about it. Basically its a scan done by a cardiologist as diabetic mummies can produce enlarged hearts. OB says it is very rear, but better safe!

lauraloo09 · 03/03/2009 15:42

Afternoon everyone, will catch up on the posts when I get home from work just thought I'd do a quicky

tee thats good that you now know why they are doing the scan and you must be glad you saw your abby again can't wait for my 4d scan next friday (booked it in Dec can't believe it's nearly here!)

Question: has anyone had any leaking from nipples yet? I noticed some clear liquid and white/creamy colour this afternoon is it common that this happens? Can you tell I'm a first timer

LittleSarah · 03/03/2009 16:01

Laura - V quick, yup I posted about this a few weeks ago but think it got lost in the chaos!

I did't leak last time until after (when I leaked loads) but now I am already doing so. Usually at night in bed thank god but yesterday I was on the computer in the morning and a big wet patch formed on my t-shirt. Argh, so have gotten some bads. Mine is the same as yours, pretty sure it is the colostrum! Nothing to worry about but a PITA!

naat and tibsy - I'm pretty tired too ... I will be so relieved in a month or two though! What's your dissertation on Naat? And what kind of research are you doing?

Right, need to phone my interview NOW, ahhhh!

bunnymother · 03/03/2009 16:41

Oooh Tee am so very that you get to see your little one so often! I was even thinking of exaggerating emphasising my stomach pains to see if I could get another scan. I really want to see her again! She had a full blown baby tantrum this morning, kicking away and poor DH had his head on my lap and was like at the force. That's right, and the one kick that hit my bladder last week was not good!

Laura - how exciting that you have a 4D scan coming up!!

Juicy - have you had yours yet? I'm sure I should know from the posts, but am getting a bit lost in them! BTW your MIL sounds like she is delusional thinking that you and baby are heading to her place when/if DH goes away - sounds like wild horses couldn't drag you there! My DH flagged going to Glastonbury this year, not sure how old baby will be then, but my immediate considered response was "don't think so!".

Naat - how annoying are your real estate agents!!! We got out of our lease 1 month early and the way we did it was the landlord wanted to market the property early due to the current letting environment (might be worth trying to plant that seed if you are able to directly communicate with them). So, when potential tenants came around we were there for the viewing and "helpfully" pointed out that we could move out earlier if that suited them. Fortunately, it did so out we go! Perhaps you could try that tack? If not, sounds like your DH is being a darling and will take a lot of the load off you.

MrsMcJnr - cannot believe your washing machine has packed it in!! Am so for you - that is really unfair! No chance of befriending a neighbour and doing a chocolate for washing machine loan swap?

Ineed - that student sounds like a prat who deserves a slap (not really, but you know what I mean). And of course, you deserve chocolate! You are a saint - I would struggle to deal w that attitude!

Ermintrude - our bodies sound so similar! I am also 5'4" and have a waist just under my bazooms, so have very short torso to squeeze my baby can-can dancer in. Which explains why I look huge. No other reason!

Have had a full day of admin - commenting on lease (MrsMcJnr - am also a "recovering" lawyer so no way could I leave that document untouched!). One cheeky clause is the requirement that you obtain your energy from Spark Energy. Based on my Google searches, a clause you definitely want struck out as the consumer forums sound unanimous in condemning them as rubbish and to be avoided. Perhaps something to look our for in your next lease, Naat? I should say that I haven't used them, but based on Google don't intend to! Also having fun trying to pull together doco for our visas.

LittleSarah - your workload is very heavy - good luck w that! Sounds like it won't be like that forever. Oooh, think of how good it will be to finish and put your feet up!

Better go for a walk, ladies - saw some photos of me a year ago on Facebook. At the time didn't think I was trim at all. Now, in comparison I sure was so off to move it around the park. Really need to get me to a pool, too. Are you enjoying swimming, Juicy? Hope you say something that magically motivates me...

To everyone else - hello!

June2009 · 03/03/2009 17:56

I've been enquiring about 3d scans with babybond, they're not really quick to reply though. It's around £125 for the most basic package, I'm going to shop around.

Tee Nice to hear you had a good appointment, I need to call the mw for my next one. They don't do much though.
Good on you that your sugar levels are ok, I'm a bit apprehensive about my Glucose test later on this month. If there is something wrong I can't give birth at the midwife unit anymore.

bigcar is yours tomorrow? They have told me not to change my eating habits in the few days before it, they probably have different sets of advice in different areas.
Not looking forward to fasting for 12 hours either, that's gonna make me so nauseous.

I don't know if I can feel 10 sets of movements a day, I can feel a lot when I shower, I wonder if the echo of the water splashing on my belly is freaking her out?

better go help making dinner

bigcar · 03/03/2009 18:25

tee, your clinic sounds good, in mine you're lucky if they can find a doppler that works, let alone a scanner! It's a reasonably large teaching hospital too, no wonder it always gets such bad write ups Glad your appointment went well!

June, yes my gtt is tomorrow, got to be at the hospital for 8.30, dh has had to take the day of to look after dd3 and get the others to school, i'm enjoying the thought of him doing the school run on his own Not looking forward to the fasting bit either, i'm going to take a packed lunch with me for afterwards, I forgot last time and had to raid the hospital shop so ended up eating too much chocolate! There seem to be a few different ways of doing the test, must be down to area!

The water probably sounds interesting rather than freaky, a lot of babies react to music so I can't see it being any different

littlesarah, hope you get to relax soon

Naat · 03/03/2009 18:49

Good evening ladies,

Bigcar, good luck with the test tomorrow! Hope they don't make you wait.

Tee, glad your appt went really well.

June, thanks for that tip! I already told DH about all your advice and he's going to call the agency tomorrow (the girl who deals with our flat always had a soft touch for him haha) and he'll see what she says about it. I'll keep you all posted. Anyway, I'm much calmer about it, que será será! Good luck with the test as well! And I think the baby likes the water

Laura, no leaking nipples yet, but good to know you're a first timer too and that it has happened so that I can be ready for it

LittleSarah, I'm an interpreter and translator (Spanish, English, Portuguese and now trying to add French) so the MA I came here for was on that and now my dissertation is on specialised-medical-forensic translation (the subjects in which I specialised). I'm still working on it and am planning to submit it this September (although I'll have it done before the birth, if not!). Hope your interview went well today!!

Bunny, thanks for that tip on Sparks Energy

I think I'm not forgetting any recent comments

ermintrude13 · 03/03/2009 18:50

June and bigcar, is there a specific reason you're having GT testing? I've never had it while pg so wonder if it's something that's only done if you have syptoms or a pre-existent condition? Hope yours go well.

Bunnymother yup, my waist is just under my bust - despite being q short I still sometimes need longer-length trousers. Legs up to your neck is supposed to be a desirable feature, but I'd rather have just a bit more torso, to fit all my vital organs and baby in

LittleSarah reading about your day made me feel very tired. Hope you get some good rest tonight, and I bet you're looking forward to signing off!

bigcar · 03/03/2009 19:03

Thanks naat! Unfortunately it's about 2 1/2 hours hanging about, they do bloods when you get there, give a glucose drink, then wait another 2 hours for more bloods, soooo much fun, must also remember to take a book

ermintrude, in my case it's mostly down to being overweight, age and a history of slightly larger babies. I've not had any symptoms, although I understand symptoms include being thirsty and tired, so fairly much normal pregnancy niggles. I've been tested in previous pregnancies and i've always been fine, so fingers crossed!

Juicygirlpink · 03/03/2009 20:48

hey there my darlings once again sorry for the non personal replies on my phone & pain is too bad to struggle to the computer!
So sad to say another miserable day in juicy house, been in tears off & on all day pain is just as bad & to top it off I have felt no kicks. So midwife actually called me back, I explained everything she said it sounds like ligament damage & could last for a good few weeks . Kick wise I tried all the tricks but nothing so now am really really worried, the last one I remember was about 3pm on Sunday anyway going in for monitoring tomorrow (which should have been done last week) will let you know. I am really hoping baby has just changed positions & is getting too big to roll now.
Tee- my hospital didn't put a scan anywhere near my tummy they only checked h/beat - maybe if they did do it I wouldn't feel so paranoid.
Nat- think it's you that has had all the problems with your lease- sorry to hear that, you would hope that people could 'bend the rules' a little to help you guys out but clearly not. I hope your dh manages to get a good result for both of you.
I will be on again tom x x

MrsMcJnr · 03/03/2009 21:00

Ineedmore ? LOL would have loved to see that boy?s face if you had said that what do you teach?

Tibsy ? interesting age gaps

Tee ? glad all is well with your baby lovely to catch another glimpse.

Bunnymother ? wish I had a neighbour who?d appreciate the chocolate.

Bigcar ? all the very best for the test tomorrow.

Juicy ? poor, poor you hon xx

Naat · 03/03/2009 21:00

Oh, Juicy! So you're feeling pain... I do hope it gets better... I don't know if you can, but try to rest as much as you can... I'll pray for that and for the baby to kick soon and really hard!

daisy5 · 03/03/2009 21:59

Just handed in my half year photo assignment and so enormously relieved. I was up till 1am last night working on the mounting. Then DD had a nightmare and came to sleep in my bed (never ever has she trotted through to my bedroom in the night so how could I refuse her?). She kicked and bashed me for 3 hours before she got evicted and then I woke at 7.30. So very in need of sleep.

Just had a catch up and quickly:
juicy - have you tried running an ice cube over your tummy?
mrsmcjnr - is short term rental an option?

All the best for the gtt girls.

My bed is calling to me....adios.

helpivegottogivebirth · 04/03/2009 07:30

has anyone else got insomnia?
i'm so tired it is making my nose bleed.

Tee2072 · 04/03/2009 07:50

helpive I'm sleeping so badly that I've kicked DH into the spare room. That way I don't just lie there in the dark staring at the ceiling, but I can turn a light on and read and such.

daisy congrats on completely the assignment! Boo at being kicked in bed by DD. Hope you got some sleep last night.

juicy I hope you get some answers today!

Good luck to the GTT girls, but trust me, its not the end of the world if you do have GD!

OP posts:
bunnymother · 04/03/2009 07:56

Help - I sure do! Both last night and the night before I woke up at 5:30am and then only fell asleep at about 7am on the couch to the soothing sounds of BBC iPlayer programs on v quietly. Very annoying to not sleep properly and then be like a dead eyed zombie during the day.

June - forgot to add my sympathies for rude guests not even calling to let you know they weren't coming! I think its behaviour, too rude. Although, I would have been pleased to eat more of that delicious sounding dessert!

Juicy - am so sorry to hear you are having such a terrible time! Am thinking of you, hoping it goes well today - let us know?

Daisy - you are a trooper - congratulations on handing in your assignment!

loooouise · 04/03/2009 08:15

Juicy - Sending you lots of speedy recovery thoughts - you poor thing, it all sounds unbearable. I hope you're getting looked after.

June - Check out www.babypremier.co.uk. They charge £95 for basic 4d package (just photos, no DVD). They have a clinic on Harley St, I'm going with babyfather a week Friday.

Lauraloo did you have yours yet? Tell us everything! Was the sex completely undeniably obvious?! I don't really want to know so hope mine doesn't give too much away.
How are you sleeping with the splints? Are you finding they're having any effect? I hope so.

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 04/03/2009 08:26

Insomnia here too people. It sucks!

Looouise I had my 3D/4D scan in Feb and it's amazing! They actually don't do the gender part when it's in 3D and do it in 2D like at the hospital. It's not massively obvious, so if you tell the sonographer that you don't want to know, then they can avoid it...

MrsMcJnr I teach English at secondary level - though I only do a day a week on supply at the moment. I've only got 4 more Tuesdays left before I leave! Hooray! It's at my old school that I taught at before so it's not your usual supply work where it's a battle every day..... well apart from yesterday!

Lazy day today as SPD is flaring after a full day teaching yesterday. 27 weeks on Friday and that is the official start of the third trimester.. hooray!

lauraloo09 · 04/03/2009 08:49

looouise Not had my 4d scan yet, it's next friday and can't wait. My SIL went for one 2 years ago and you could tell the sex of the baby, but they wont tell you if you ask them not to. The photos she got were great and I'm so excited about next week, I will post my photos for you all.

Can I john the insomniacs not been able to sleep for days the splints are very victorian and are quite uncomfirtable, but not suffering pins and needles as much. Woke up last night with a crippling pain in my legs...tell you what I'm not having an easy time of this lately

ermintrude13 · 04/03/2009 09:24

Sorry to hear so many of you are having trouble sleeping. I'm not bad at the moment - not actually waking up to vomit, which is nice although I threw up my lovely spag bol at kids' betdtime last night: poor DD had to jump off the loo to make room for me! But I am sleeping OK, just waking a bit early, usually to pee. My sis gave me one of those huge long pillow things and it's really helped; you can put it between your knees which helps with joint pains, then run it underneath the bump to support it, and cuddle up to the top bit. DH is a bit jealous; he says he keeps expecting to come in and find I've drawn a face on it

daisy5 · 04/03/2009 09:54

june - i rang and quizzed both Baby Bond and Baby Premier for how long exactly they scanned for (from the whole appointment). Baby Bond was a bit evasive and said 'long enough to get footage for the DVD so it depends whether you are buying a 5min DVD or 10min DVD.

Baby Premier, said 'we scan for as long as the appointment - which would mean a full half hour I guess.

Anyway, just thought I would mention it.

helpive - I really sympathise. I get it sometimes too. The only thing that works sometimes is if i drink a tonne of water during the day and do lots and lots, so I am utterly exhausted by the time I go to bed. Or when I was waking at 4 or 5, I was trying to go to sleep at 9 so that at least I was getting enough sleep. But it's really nasty isn't it. It just makes it so hard to get anything done the next day. Poor you.

I don't think I will have one. I know the gender, so my 'surprise' will be what little one looks like.

Although, having a major panic, and googling this doesn't help any. I ran out of Pritt Stick (glue) while I was putting my sketchbook together (put in all the procedures and photos of what went right and wrong etc) and so I was using my 3M Spray Mount. I was happily holding photos in my hand and liberally spraying the back (against a cardboard backdrop). After a while, I felt the two pads of my fingers burning a little and I suddenly remembered that Spray Mount has 'nasties' in it. Well, I scrubbed my hands in hot hot water and soap and googled the 'nasties' on Google and they are indeed not the chemicals you want on your fingers (heptane, hexane, pentane), so praying that only one exposure, and for not too long (30mins max I guess), was not enough to damage my little one. It does say on the bottle 'avoid contact with skin and eyes. After contact with skin wash immediately with plenty of soap and water. Do not breathe vapour or spray.

If I wasn't pregnant I would be thinking 'silly me', instead I am expecting to burn in hell for my crazy stupidity!!

I was just so tired, it didn't occur to me. Oh dear.

tibsy · 04/03/2009 09:56

morning all

mrsmc very interesting gaps!! tbh, ds in his teenage state is a dream compared to dd

juicy - poor you, that really sounds like the pits. i hope you get some reassurance soon with your monitoring

daisy hope you managed to get lots of delicious sleep

helpive - i'm with you, and its really starting to get me down.insomnia is the pits. i can cope with just about anything when i've had sleep. instead, ive turned into a ratty, irritable old bag who is snappy and grumpy

ineed for your spd but a huge for your last 4 tues!!! im finishing this sat at work and cant wait!!!!!

laura that sounds really miserable

ermintrude am very of your pillow. sounds like just what i need!!

and hello to everyone else

can i just add that the next person to tell me that i should be in the glowing phase where i've got bags of energy will get it!!!!

Naat · 04/03/2009 09:59

Good morning everyone,
No insomnia on this front in the last few nights, fortunately.

Help Sorry to hear about the nosebleeds

Looouise Great that you're getting your 4d scan this Friday!!! So exciting!

Ineed Glad you're having a day of rest today. Hope the pains don't bother too much then...

Ermin So you liked the pillow? (looooved the comment about the potential drawn face on it) I saw them advertised but they're so expensive I didn't dare buy one without having some reviews Would you recommend it then? I think some of you mentioned Ebay, if it's a good purchase it might be useful to look it up there...

To the experienced mothers out there... how did you (if you did) choose a sling? There's such a huge variety out there I'm lost! I like the fact that some say you can breastfeed with them, but would like your views.

daisy5 · 04/03/2009 10:00

ermintrude - vomiting - oh no. I didn't realise you were still that bad. My dp gets jealous of my pillow too, I get one of those 'so I'm not needed then' looks. Anyway, I'm a bit hot to be cuddled up to or vice versa.

Actually it reminds me that last pregnancy I was so hot that I slept on top of the duvet, even in winter, half the time. This pregnancy I am only a little warmer, just enough that I don't want dh to cuddle up to me while we go to sleep or else.

Oh, to take my mind off my stupid chemicals moment, would anyone be interested in giving their opinions (that is really objective ones, and preferably critical as have to get better) of my 'pregnant bump' photographs. I could pop them on my Mumsnet Home Page. I am thinking of specialising in bumps and babies for the next month's project and need ideas and observations.

Naat · 04/03/2009 10:06

x post!

Tibsy, go for it!! They deserve it haha

Daisy, I'm exactly the same! Silly as a pregnant lady can be!! But don't worry, I don't think that was too much exposure. OH! And I'm in for the "opinions project"!!! Count me in!
