Congrats elkiedee LMN - My milk kicked in on Tuesday am (c-s Friday) and I had no leaking, perhaps a day of pain and that was it....all v.weird and that is what happened last time after I stopped b/f.

We are Peppa Pig addicts here. I prefer the DVD to the sky+ so that I'm not up every 5 mins to put a new one on. DH thinks that Daddy Pig is an idiot.

Odd thing re the driving after CS- insurance company (Admiral) have no policy on it other than your doctor telling you that you're fit to drive. The doctors tell you that it's up to the insurance company . So, I asked DH to leave the car with me today (it's 4 weeks tomorrow) - as if I was about to go bonkers with cabin fever following the antics of yesterday I was going to get in the car and escape ! I reckon that if my wound hadn't been infected I would have driven last week.

neerly3 looking forward to good news later

dinky - I second PT's take on the adrenalin. I wake up after crap night of being awake for most of it and I think through the pure relief that it's daytime again, I get going and by about 3pm feel absolutely knackered.........!

Right, off to make DS lunch, DD tucked up in bed......that girl can sleep.

dinkystinky · 19/02/2009 12:21

Thanks Pinktulips (also, hurray, you've got your chilled out little baby at last!!) and Herbgarden - got a couple of hours sleep in with DS2 this morning in bed and am taking it REALLY easy today (still in pyjamas which is unheard of) so hopefully when the adrenaline wears off I'll be rested for the night ahead. DS2 wasnt crying all night - just some of it - but did need feeding, burping, feeding, burping etc all night - maybe he is having a one week old growth spurt

herbgarden · 19/02/2009 12:57

Mmm I think there is a 2week growth spurt??

dinkystinky · 19/02/2009 13:31

Something to look forward to then....

herbgarden · 19/02/2009 13:42

ps can't remember if I mentioned but DD was up to 6lbs 14oz at her weigh in on Monday - so she's now a whole 1lb over her birthweight - guzzle guts !!

ommmwardandupward · 19/02/2009 13:46

catstar - borders have had those peppa pig toys on sale recently. I've never seen the programme, but I am familiar with one or two of the toys

KT1983 · 19/02/2009 14:31

Afternoon everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well today?
Ive not read through the last couple of pages - been busy with Poppy & visitors ( some with horrible coughs & colds - really think they should have stayed away!)
Poppy seems to be quite a content little thing, but I keep thinking in the back of my mind this is the calm before the storm.

She feeds every 4 hours, after a feed she's usually awake for about 30-45mins (winding & baby gurgles!) then crashes out until the next feed is due.

We went out for a lovely walk in the sunshine this morning...
My stitches feel loads better today, im feeling almost normal again. So we were out for about 1hr 15mins which was lovely, getting some air.

I have terrible paranoia about her when she is in a deep sleep. I keep proddind her to make sure she is still breathing, or checking her to make sure she is not too hot.
Im so concerned about what blankets to use when she sleeps.
I hope il feel more comfortable with that side of things soon.
Im already worrying about Monday when DP goes back to work.

Anyway, off to work my way through the chocolate the visitors have been bringing.
Sooooo much better than bringing flowers IMO

dinkystinky · 19/02/2009 15:03

Newsflash - Thehouseofmirth has had an extension put on - text reads "Baby Father Christmas born in water 10.31pm Wes 18 Feb. 7 lbs 2oz. He's lovely, mummy bit battered but happy!"

Congrats THOM - delighted that you got your waterbirth and the little one has arrived after all that waiting...

Cocodrillo · 19/02/2009 15:19

Am starting to get really scared about my CS tomorrow.

Can't sit still, I keep jumping up and mopping things. I've mopped and hoovered everywhere, done ALL the washing, and put it away, dusted, got a man round to do a last-minute clean of the windows...

My parents are arriving soon to look after the DCs tomorrow and over the weekend. DD2 is having the most awful tantrums so I'm also worried she's going to wear them out. DD1 never had tantrums like this. I have to hold her in a firm cuddle for about 10 mins till she rages herself down. I think they scare her.

Must stop going on about myself. Hope everyone is doing ok. Afraid I haven't caught up with the thread.

KT agree that people are a bit thoughtless about visiting with coughs etc. I guess they're just excited and can't wait to see the new arrival though!

KT1983 · 19/02/2009 15:19

Congratulations to THOM

Cocodrillo · 19/02/2009 15:20

Ooh and congratulations to THOM!

swampster · 19/02/2009 15:24

Way to go, Thom!

MrsY · 19/02/2009 15:25

Hi all - haven't had a chance to catch up but wanted a bit of advice - herby think you might be the best person...

After 10 days of agony, and even the breastfeeding councillors advising me to give bf-ing a 48 hour break, I am going to formula - I feel guilty but think calm mummy and full baby is better than stressed mummy and hungry baby... Especially when I'm still processing the trauma of her birth.

Do I pump to prevent engorgement or just stop compleatly?

nkweto · 19/02/2009 15:54

THOM.. CONGRATULATIONS!! Good to hear little one was born in water..

MrsY.. lots of hugs to you.. not sure, but think pumping initially would be better to prevent engorgment.. hopefully someone will come on soon to give more advice.. hope you are feeling ok about things in general.. .

mumoverseas · 19/02/2009 15:59

THOM congratulations on the arrival of your LO.

Cocodrillo, try not to worry about your CS. I know it is a bit scary but you will be fine. Just try to relax when they are setting up the spinal which for me was the most anxious bit. Once that is over with, you can enjoy your LO's arrival. Hugs x

MrsY, you have absolutely nothing to feel guilty about ref the breastfeeding. As I've said before, I'm doing both breast and bottle and hoping to cut back on bottle a bit over next few days. Little man is still struggling to latch on and I'm wondering if his tongue tie is causing the problem but I'm persevering and not allowing myself to feel guilty about the few bottles he is having every day (and trying to ensure they are during the night so DH can help ) Of course a calm mummy and full baby is better. I'd try expressing some milk if you can and give it to her in a bottle before she has formula but if you can't you can't. Hugs to you x

Well we had the overseas family photos taken today whilst DD is out from the UK. Thought it would be nice to have some photos of all 6 of us but DD2 decided she was not going to perform. At one point we finally had her sitting on the floor with Harrison on her lap for a group photo and she suddenly decided to get up and managed to drop him forward on his head. Luckily I made a grab for him and cushioned the blow a bit but he still bumped his head a little bit and it probably didn't do my scar much good!

Off for a bath/dvd/early night now as completely shattered after two bad nights due to Harrison having a cold and DD2 having a bad cough.

catstar · 19/02/2009 16:37

Thanks for letting us know Dinky - great news about THOM - congratulations to her!!

Thanks for the tips on Peppa Pig toys - if this little one is not out overnight I will be making a trip to Kingston for a spoit of shopping. MAy hang around John Lewis too in the hope my waters break in there - think you get some vouchers or something !

Mrsy - when I decided to switch from breat to bottle with DD I was certainly advised to express to relieve the engorgement which could be painful if you just suddenly stop. As it was, the expressing was so successful that I carried on doing this so regularly that I was able to give DD every other feed of EBM for about 9 weeks which worked very well for us. I just used a manual breast pump - and got a very strong grip ! Hope you are doing ok?

KT - sounds like everything going well with Poppy and you enjoy those choccies! I agree, much more useful than flowers. In fact, with DD I was so paranoid about all the flower pollen etc making her sneeze I put all the flowers we got in the spare room so they were a complete waste really . Then my mum told me that newborns sneeze alot because they're clearing their noses of amniotic fluid etc, so it probably wasn't the flowers! Whoops!

Better go and do the bits I had intended to while DD at nursery. I went to lie down on my bed at about 1.30 and have only just woken up!!!

Keep the babies coming - in fact mine can come now because we've difficult childcare stage (if I understood the timetable I've been given .

herbgarden · 19/02/2009 17:48

Just quickly MrsY I remember I pumped for a few weeks and gave DS some breast and bottle and then eased of the pumping.....just did it gradually. I don't remember it being particularly difficult.

DD I think has a cold too. She's snorting a lot like a pig and has bogeys up her nose. What do I do?? DS never had a cold so little - Can I use the Karvol plug ins for her - I have some but don't have the instructions. What about easing the snuffles in other ways. Poor little thing !

dinkystinky · 19/02/2009 18:05

Sending you big hugs MrsY. Remember - your baby, your choices; you shouldnt feel bad about any decisions you make regarding your family in any way as the thing about parenting is that there is no absolute right and absolute wrong way to do it, just millions and millions of different ways of doing it - and you're right, a happy calm mummy will help with a happy calm baby. I'm the same as Catstar - when I switched from breast to bottle with DS1 for day time feeds I expressed the feeds I would have been giving DS1 and gradually expressed less each time, then dropping one express session every couple of days to ensure I didnt get engorgement. You can freeze the breast milk you express or store it in fridge for up to 24 hours and give it to DD if you wish.

dinkystinky · 19/02/2009 18:10

Coco - good luck for tomorrow; you'll be fine and your DD2 will be fine with your parents (she'll probably be an absolute angel the whole time they are looking after her). Look forward to hearing your news.

Herbgarden - I think they should say on the plug ins if you can use them for infants - generally there seems to be a no use for under 2 months on things like that (e.g. Olbas oil). I think you can try taking DD into a steamy bathroom which may ease the snuffles a bit (been doing that with DS2 on occasion) - or try sucking out the bogies with one of those bogey suckers if you have one and its small enough... Also try elevating the head of her cot abit to help her breathe at night.

KT - my mum hasnt seen DS2 yet as she's recovering from flu/cold - she's down this weekend coming hopefully.... No chance of DS2 avoiding coughs and colds in this house though with DS1 around...

dinkystinky · 19/02/2009 18:17

MoS - that photoshoot sounds quite stressful. Hope both you and Harrison are ok and you get a really good night's rest tonight.

KT1983 · 19/02/2009 18:45

ahhh...Catstar i wondered why she was sneezing so much

She also has hiccups loads. Is that normal for new babies too? poor thing looks like she gets really annoyed with herself.

MrsY · 19/02/2009 19:21

Thanks for the advice.

I had a really long cry about it earlier, but I realised that my pain and tension had actually got in the way of me bonding with her, as I was in pain even holding her, and lived in fear of her waking up as she would need a feed. I'll try pumping, but it's coming out like strawberry milkshake as I'm bleeding - anyone know if this is a problem?

KT - Merry has hicouphs too - but she did when I was carrying her as well. Think some babies just do...

Congrats to THOM and good luck coco.

Oh, those using infacol for wind - do the E-numbers worry you?

LittleMissNorty · 19/02/2009 19:40

Herb - DS has a cold....you can't use Karvol or Olbas oil until 12 weeks .....all you can do is use the Nasosal (saline drops) and poke a tissue up the nostril to get the bogies out....DS hates it, but its quite satisfying when you get them all out and they can breathe/ feed again. DS is also puking loads of phelgm, which I encourage tbh....better out than in. Steamy bathroom helps as well.

MrsY....I don't worry about the E numbers myself....I'm much more concerned with getting wind up tbh.

Good luck Coco....you'll be fine . Look forward to the news.

Congratulations THOM

Happy birthday McDreamy

littleboysblue · 19/02/2009 19:46

Neerly Hope you're well on you're way by now.....
LMN I was thinking that too, sure it wasn't this long last time..... I'm still leaking too, 2 weeks in, but only 1 of them
PT Wow for that mum of twins!!!!! Good on her.
Luke is also awake alot more now. Really have to get a little chair for him, her's spending most of time in basket so is safe from the monster
dinky Glad you're feeing better...
KT I'm like that with blankets too. Should I use 1 or 2? Folded counts as 2 doesn't it so he has 3 blankets and 1 of those is fleece lined too. It is colder in our bedroom than living room, but I do pop my finger down his vest every now and then..
thom so pleased....congratulations to you and family
Coco Good luck tomorrow
MrsY Please don't feel guilty about bf/ff. Like dinky says, your baby, your choices. This is why I hate all the pressure that's put on us to bf, because when it's not 100% working, we all feel crap and i don't think that's right.
Re infacol, I hadn't even looked at E-numbers but tbh, no, not at all concerned about things like that. I rarely look at packs for things like that or I'd be in a constant flap.

lardybump · 19/02/2009 19:54
