oh, another opinion. I've just posted on the childbirth discussion about hypnotherapy CDs. Without me searching the forum, which hypnotherapy for birthing do any of you do/suggest? I want to buy a CD set but not sure which one...

thanks.

Belgianchocolates · 15/02/2009 20:25

Get the natal hypnotherapy ones. I went to a work shop where Maggie Howell herself did all the talk and work and have been a big fan of her ever since, she's absolutely brilliant. The hypnotherapy work shop made me wonder why on earth it's not part of normal ante natal classes. I use her general relaxation one (non pregnancy) and the pregnancy relaxation one and have a bid going on eBay for the home birth CD.

Re jeans. I have been looking at the Isabella Oliver jeans, because I like their tops, but I'm a bit worried about the under the bump ones sinking. If the Next experiment is not successfull I'll try M&S and IO.

Momino · 15/02/2009 20:33

thanks Belgian.
I've heard a few people talk about Maggie Howell so will look into her natal hypno cds.

I was amazed at how i was able to overcome the antiD injection just by relaxing so my muscle where the MW injected was relaxed. It's a far cry from birth, but a small example to me how it's possible I can get through pain better by relaxing.

can't hurt to try, can it?

FiKelly · 15/02/2009 21:39

momino seamus also makes me think of old men but with whiskery moustaches.... but I don't really know why? One of my irish friends has a brother called seamus and he's definitely not old or whiskery!

I too was thinking about the natal hypnotherapy cd's I meant to try them earlier but have realised it's yet another thing along with the tens machine that i've not organised/bought yet...

FiKelly · 15/02/2009 21:43

belgian a friend who has had 2 successful home births gave me back the maternity clothes that i'd lent her and in the bag was the natal hypnotherapy 'effective home birth preparation cd' but It doesn't have the 24pg guide book with it. Do you want to borrow it (she may want it back eventually)?

nauseous · 15/02/2009 21:48

I think Seamus is a gorgeous name, very strong sounding.

Still thinking about names in our house. I like Reuben, he hates it.. we go around in circles like this sometimes....

Girls names I'm finding easier.

Momino · 15/02/2009 22:07

we have an irish surname so Seamus would go well. but i'm not so sure about it.

I still love Atticus and have just posted on the babynames section to see if many people know children named atticus (ie, how acceptable a name is it?).

But then, I still believe we're having another girl so should be concentrating on girl names. It's only because this baby is measuring so much bigger than my last two that I'm suspecting boy possibility. But is size an indicator of sex? prob not. We're prob just having a very long/tall girl.

Jennster · 15/02/2009 22:14

Momino Seamus makes me think Heaney Had no idea who he was but do this random word association thing. Intelligent chap by the looks of it.

Re Natal Hynotherapy Cds. I gave them a mixed review earlier, but have since spoken to a friend who is a psychologist. She was talking to me about the seven relaxation techniques. She told me about all of them, and I realised, the CDs have every technique but breathing in sevens on it. Very interesting. Apparently when we went to the NCT antenatal classes, our teacher went through all of the techniques at the end of the session. I hadn't noticed they were any different, so so much for having the cognitive wherewithal to be able to using my own imagination. I don't.

Jennster · 15/02/2009 22:17

Oh and Dh loves the name Atticus, but our other dc have very plain names. I think you have to go for adventurous names or not. To Kill a Mocking Bird is one of his favourite books. What about Scout for a girls name?

detsy · 15/02/2009 22:33

Hi girls and welcome to the newbies. Also thanks for the new list - its brill and much easier to find yourself.

Got in a bit of a flap about DD - been grotty (again..) but was very hot, didn't like lights, rubing her eyes and head and feet were freezing. Got in a tizz about meningitis and went off to out of hours - I'm sure its cos I'm pregnant and more fretful than normal - she's fine, just got a bug/virus. I could hardly talk to the triage nurse as I was really choked - bloody bloody hormones!!

Frazz I like Bailey - it was on my list but has since come off as DP doesn't like it. Bay makes me think of horses but then we're a horsey family so can't help it. But then I like Red but haven't even bothered suggesting it (esp as there is a chance this LO may be ginger..!!)

momi great bump! I'm finding mine gets cold due to gap between tops and bottoms - not a prob last time as I recall so don't know why its happening this time and so early on (ish) Well its hardly early is it only 11 weeks to go

Seamus makes me think of a gingery bewhiskered Irish sailor like Capn Birds Eye - sorry....

Pelvic floor - am trying to do these but have to say have noticed a huge difference this time round - finding them very hard to do and hold and end up squeezing buttocks together instead which is a complete waste of time. May just resort to post birth surgery instead My non stop hacking cough which i've had throughout this pgncy hasn't helped at all. I'm hoping when i stop the coughing i'll stop the leaking and total prolapse feeling....

Had blissed out reflexology at the weekend - ahhh bliss bliss bliss. Going to keep up with that now and hopefully, coupled with my rasp leaf and caulophylum homeo stuff will avoid induction...

OMG what an essay - sorry!!

FiKelly · 15/02/2009 22:37

scout is a bit too daring for me.. but could be a boys name too. would def be different and i'm sure she'd grow to love it when older..

detsy · 15/02/2009 22:44

Was going to do a bump pic today but eneded up with a toddler attached all day - will do one soon for interest.

Has anyone heard from Febes not heard her on line for ages?

Scout is a bit far out for me too but think i'm just a bit more of a traditionalist Archie, Oscar and Henry are my current top 3 but it changes on a daily basis (or should i say hourly) Got a growth scan on weds so will get them to check the sex again - still in shock about being on the blue team. But did buy some diddy blue gear the other day!

God I'm rambling - had no adult conversation today - sorry

FiKelly · 15/02/2009 22:44

detsy Phew with dd having only a bug/virus but sorry she's poorly. at least you're trying to do pelvic floor exercises.. i forget completely until someone mentions them again and i go whoops! i too have a gap problem with my old maternity tops this time.. i think i'll have to get a few bump bands.. didn't need them last time.

Jennster · 15/02/2009 22:45

Bloody bread maker. It's going to finish in a minute and it's making me starving. Had such a large late lunch I didn't need much for dinner. Had a massive bowl of salad and dressing with an apple. Me thinks hot bread and butter and gaviscon is calling me.

Jennster · 15/02/2009 22:48

Why are so many of us wearing clothes that are too short? Because the bloody manufacturers think that if they add a few more rusching details and no lenght it will do. Well I have a problem with getting things long enough when not pregnant thank you very much.

Rant over

detsy · 15/02/2009 22:49

Mmmm hot bread and butter.....

FiKelly · 15/02/2009 22:52

ooo that's not fair now i'm salavating at the thought of fresh baked hot bread with lashings of butter.. i've had a huge bowl of freshly made popcorn this eve and just had a glass of milk..

detsy · 15/02/2009 22:52

fi bump bands - yes i agree but i got a couple of cheapies off eby, 2 for a tenner. They are useless and end up ruching around under bump like a tight belt. So I would recommend getting some decent ones which is what i need to do as well. I think they are longer and thicker so don't ride up and down?

FiKelly · 15/02/2009 22:58

detsy thanks for the advice.. will go for some decent ones.

Polony · 15/02/2009 23:14

Hello all.

I like Seamus a lot. I don't think associations stick too much so I wouldn't be put off by the sea dog thing. Besides, I think the sea dog thing is kind of cool, Tom Waits-y.

I bought a couple of the IO tops, the ruched scoop neck ones with the long sleeves and a cami. The fabric seems really good, they're all I fit into so have had a decent amount of wearing and washing already and don't look like they're going to pill. I have a long body (5'10") and a decent sized bump, and find they're plenty long enough for me. The cami I got from there is very long as well. I'm hoping they still look nice when the baby's out but I think all that ruching will just sag. I'm also hoping I get to keep pg boobs, but thats another story.

Belgianchocolates · 16/02/2009 07:43

Morning all,

I got up nice and early for work. Got there and turns out I'm not on until this afternoon for a late shift . I could have had a lie in . Anyway. I'm up now, so I suppose I'll use the time to relax and have a nice cup of redbush tea or 2 or 3.

fi thanks for the offer of the homebirth CD, unfortunately the auction finished yesterday afternoon, I won and have paid, so iit's too late.

jen I know your problem. I've found H&M's tops are generally quite long and have been OK for me up until now (I'm just under 5'10"), mamas and papas and mothercare are rubbish for length and anything cheap is too. I got some bump bands from H&M: £10 for a set of 2. I've only ever used them once and they didn't sink, but my bump wasn't quite this big yet. I've found that I wouldn't have a gap problem if it weren't for the sinking jeans. I hate hoiking them up all the time + I've got....well .... more discharge than usual and sinking jeans makes that problem really uncomfortable and cold feeling .

pulapula · 16/02/2009 07:57

Morning all - Belgianchocs - i seem to have lots of discharge at the moment too .

Well, its half-term here which means no playgroups, and all playcentres, shops etc will be packed with "big kids" so i have invited my parents over to help entertain the kids! Got my MW this afternoon too.

My DH and I are a bit worried as FIL has been having lots of tests on his heart, and he needs a heart valve operation. It's low risk surgery apparently but it was a bit worrying when he saw his consultant he thought it needed doing asap, possibly this Friday if there's a slot and if FIL has got rid of his bad cough.

pulapula · 16/02/2009 08:11

By the way, I haven't found any maternity jeans which don't need hoiking up although i find those which are over bump with a jersey panel somewhere are the most comfortable. I just have a problem now where my thighs and bum are expanding so jeans/combats are getting very tight . Might have to start wearing my maternity joggers soon (the most comfortable things ever!).

Also, my jeans ebay experiences pales into insignificance compared to a friend of mine, who came round yesterday. This next bit might not make much sense to those who don't know the phil and teds, but she won a P+T sport (or so she thought) for £300 and when it arrived (in binbags, not boxed/padded etc) it was a sport pushchair with an "E3" doubles kit, which just doesn't fit properly (wrong "incline", touches the brakes etc) and a wheel axel has gone so this is sticking out about 5 inches to the side of the wheel!). She just wants to return it and get her money back but the women wont accept it and says she needs to get it looked at by a specialist. So she's borrowed mine to take some photos and compare and try and convince the woman its not right, but i think she should just contact ebay, as the woman sold it as a P+T sport which it obviously isn't if the doubles kit is an E3. I'm sure some people know there are problems and just hope that people won't complain and will just sort them out themselves. It's really putting me off ebay...

Jennster · 16/02/2009 08:33

Bum. Off to Ikea again today. Hopefully I'll get there today. Hadn't realised it was half term.....SURELY it's not going to be full of insane parents and children? It's not where I'd want to take children but hey ho. Back is really playing up so could do without having the obstacle course made any more difficult, but if I don't go, I will NEVER get my house sorted out.

Think there is a big Next there too will try on long jeans and order them in Extra Long when I get home.

Febes · 16/02/2009 09:11

I went to ikea yesterday. Not the most relaxing day to trawl around but needed to get last few things for our new bathroom.

RE Maternity jeans- I have NEXT under bump wide leg ones and they are great, they do need a bit of hoiking up but in general comfy and look ok.

I've got my 28 week check up today so hope everything is fine again.

Half term this week so looking forward to relaxing and getting some jobs done.
