Well Dh is off for another couple of hours for some cycling...gives me time to cool off and contemplate how to approach things (and remind myself how much I love the man no matter how riled up he gets me)

Bleuravin · 20/01/2009 20:06

Lush/and other goodies fund; quite agree. In fact I think the NHS should give preggy women a grant for Lush products...

Schulte · 20/01/2009 20:17

But, HOW on earth do you manage to get to 26 weeks without realising? I mean, what about sickness, back, hip and tummy pains, constant peeing, extreme hunger, extreme grumpiness, getting big, baby kicking and all that? I'd really like to know how they do it, it must be lovely not to know until you're actually nearly there!

Springy, poor you, sounds like a horrible day. Have you been given antibiotics? Hope you'll get better soon, and the car thing is so nasty, I hope they'll rot in hell.

Boffin, great news about the hospital finally doing something about your pain, hope it will help and they can make you better at least for a while. Good luck x

BB, please please tell your boss you've had enough of working too hard, or start your maternity leave early, really they can't treat you like this. It's not just you running yourself down, it's bad for your baby too!

Bleu, let me know how you're getting on with the husband stabbing if mine doesn't get his bum to the kitchen soon to assemble a stir fry he'll be in trouble too! I have done all the chopping but had to give up because of back pain. So really he's got the fun bit left!

I need some ideas now please... DD is going to a friend's second birthday party on Saturday, what should I buy as a present???

mathsmummy27 · 20/01/2009 20:20

Never lose your temper - means you've lost the argument. Nor cry if possible, as this means same thing to men types. State PoV calmly, listen to other PoV. Cut to the heart of the issue that's annoying you and don't be tempted to just whinge about lots of stuff in random order.

And if you can do all that, you're a better man than I, Gunga Din...;)

Bleuravin · 20/01/2009 20:27

Hmm I often go for books, like those by David Melling (Kiss that Missed, or The Tale of Jack Frost -both are great reads especially for bedtimes) or Graeme Base (The Water Hole -really great counting book with a eco-conscious theme running in the backround).
I also like to buy blocks for kids as there's a lot of creative play that can go on with some nice plain wooden blocks.

Lol maths...
temper and crying...my two biggest downfalls when trying to get my point across -that and the nasty manic laugh which means I really just want to strangle you because I think you're a bloody fool...

She's 2. Thanks for the tips, I just remembered there's is lovely childrens' book shop near where I work, I'll have a look there tomorrow.

Well DH has still not started cooking! Grrrrrr! I can't have dinner at 9pm, that's too bloody late!

Oh yes, Russel the Sheep, by Scotton and in a similar (sheepy) vein Marvin gets Mad, by Theobold...both are very popular and are good sellers because the pictures and stories are lovely.

Lol I can just imagine the cats joy...our cat sniffed the little box I got for Christmas then looked at me rather suspiciously as I offered the ribbon to play with, bell still attached. He's a weird one. He has been following me around like a puppy this past week or so though, I wonder if he can sense a difference in me?

Bleuravin · 20/01/2009 20:45

Squirrels aye? Have you seen the children's books called Scaredy Squirrel by Melanie Watts? There's a couple of them if I recall...Very funny.
(I worked in a bookstore for 5 years tis why I know)

Nutty - Jump right in if you can bear my singing and don't mind being tattooed by DD.

I'm making a note of all of those books. DD loves Monkey Puzzle and The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Hippo Stays Awake (can't remember author). And another one called Me and My Dad.

Hey all, think am almost there with catching up - the title seems to have made everyone even more chatty!
Quick update from me that I thought I had posted last night but now find it never posted, apologies if it did and I am boring everyone.
GGT last week - bleugh, what an awful thing to do to a pregnant lasy - but proves I don't have diabetes
Liver function test for itching - all fine, am just pregnant and am going to start taking piriton.
Xray - shows the pneumonia is cleared.
Anti-D been done with a needle the midwife said was a bit blunt - owwww!?
Have bought my mat leave forward to leave at half term - 3 more weeks left
Not sure that I am going to get the maternity pay I was expecting and have budgeted for though. NUT are consulting their lawyers - sub finally seems worth it!
catch you girls next thread - am to bed!

brettgirl2 · 20/01/2009 20:55

Boffin - that's really good news that they are finally going to try and help you.

BB - in terms of the hours your are working/pressure. Surely your HR department had to do a pregnancy risk assessment? One of the questions on ours was about overtime. I would be tempted to take it up with them if you are getting no joy elsewhere.

Unlike many others I had quite a nice day today - MW appointment passed by without incident. BP 120/60 bit confusing when it has been borderline high throughout PG. (Booking 130/77, has been 150/88) Is it possible that the reading today is wrong because I have never, ever had it measured lower than my booking one. My heart was pounding too.... I have just been reminded that I forgot to ask about the health in pg grant - is there a limit for when you have to claim by does anyone know?

BabyBolat · 20/01/2009 20:56

Evening all

Just got home, had a bath and feeling much better (it's amazing what just being out of the office can do for you!!!). Oh this is going to sound really superficial and PR-ey but in terms of the commune I can bring a raft of beautiful beauty products (I pretty much have the entire counter of MAC, Bobbi Brown and Benefit) as well as the entire stock of Space NK body lotions and potions!! Not that you would notice at the moment! I also used to be a (kind of) make up artist and nail technician so manicures are on me! God I sound really superficial but I am not, just used them as ways to avoid bar work and retail at uni!

Schultes (and all) I am, I have a horrid week this week - I knew it would be pretty bad just because of the nature of the work I have to do but didn't realise how much pregnancy really impacts you so wasn't at all prepared for the sheer tiredness of it all. So three more days to go and then DH has taken the weekend off so we can spend some time together and I am going to take Monday off too to re-charge and am only working in the office 2 days next week which will really help. I also have a meeting with BOTH my bosses (which NEVER happens) about maternity (as in they want to know how soon I am going back!) on Wednesday so will have a really honest conversation with them and also discuss working from home more from February and pretty much full time in March

Boffin I am so pleased - did they call you pretty much as soon as they received your letter?

Bleu, I am rubbish at things like that and tend to get very over-emotional (especially at the moment) but advice would be that just explain your feelings as clearly as possible and show him that his actions implicate you as well!

My favourite book is the hungry caterpillar, have already bought a copy for this LO and is sat on the nursery shelf waiting for him or her - just reminds me of being a kid so much!!!

Springy - what a truly rubbish day but on the plus side you got to hear your LO again and DP got to really be art of it which is lovely! Maybe it was his way of saying he wanted to meet his daddy?!

brettgirl2 · 20/01/2009 20:57

Only slight negative on today is that I feel really knackered tonight - maybe the start of third trimester tiredness?

Bleuravin · 20/01/2009 20:58

I'm also a closet children's book reader... We own more children's books than any other genre...DH nearly choked on his tea when I started unpacking box upon box of kids books when I moved over here and in with him (they were pretty much the only thing I brought from home- wasn't about to start my collection all over)
