The thread was getting far too long and taking ages to load.

London meet is a week away. I don't have to get the train until 10.30 this time Could someone tell me which tube line to get from Paddington?

OP posts:

Hi everyone - what a lot of posts!!

Berolina - glad your cervix is ok and doesn't need a stitch or anything! Good for you getting your blood checked privately - hope it set your mind at ease.

Uki - how funny you ordering those kids around! Don't think you'd get far on the tube though Like Coop, I am intrigued too as to what the correct posture to assume on the lavvy is?

Trib- glad you got a good sleep last night - probably because you were knacked but did you think the name thing helped? You are so naughty though, cheating with Salamader! A good introduction to my "system" is to try and get 10 names beginning with each of the letters of the alphabet. For every 5 extra on the easier letters, you get a "free" one to help out on the trickier ones. Gawd I really must get out more . How strange - I keep thinking Toby is a lovely name for a boy and have even suggested to dp who's got his heart totally set on something else.
I'd be thinking exactly the same as you Trib if after that phone call if you weren't offered the job. Surely they must be intending to offer it to you and are just juggling things around?

KVG - I'm pleased you had a nice appt. What's the holding your nose thing? I get pounding heart and breathlessness too - should I do it? Interesting stuff about Strep B - I'm off to check my notes.
I hope they don't leave you hanging over the weekend about the job. Is it going to be warm enough to camp? I quite fancy a couple of nights camping too - dp's got all the gear permanently in his car/van thing.

21stCenturygirl - thanks for you post - really interesting and though provoking.

Uwila - you're not thinking of trying a vbac are you? I would guess that stronger muscle tone would be better to hold the scar together - more underlying tissue doing the job rather than the superficial skin layers?

Back pain and epidurals - I think as well as pain caused directly from the insertion of the needle, you get pain because of the way you push - you can't feel as much so push differently. Also if you're on your back, that certainly won't help as you're pushing upwards and your pelvis isn't as open as it can be if in an upright position.

Mrs W - I saw the baby thing last night. What I loved about it more than anything was the fact that they didn't cut the cord as soon as the baby was born - it always makes me feel stressed when they do it immediately for no reason

charleypops · 08/04/2005 14:18

Forgot to say - had that horrid GTT this moring - I have to phone for the results at 4.30 so I'll let you all know. Did feel very tired and groggy after having the glucose drink, but I'd been fasting since midnight and I think that much sugar all at once would've made anyone feel ropey

katzguk · 08/04/2005 14:40

hello

just got a nice suprise when i worked out i have just 4 weeks left at work, thought it was 5!! and one of the monday's is a bank holiday! yeah so i think 11 days in total!

Woke up to snow on the ground this morning and it been snowing off and on all day, very weird!

#bought the bump a coat/sleepsuit/sleeping bag thing from H and M yesterday, its great, you can its like a snowsuit but you can unzip the legs and make it into a growbag, i think they might be called babynests, but not sure, anyhow it was half price so a bargain at £4.99p

Fingers crossed for charley - and for Mr KVG as well. I hope he doesn't get too despondent, sometimes these things just take ages. In my experience, if they say "you'll hear within a week" it is always after a week that you hear, you never hear early. (Which is why I was a bit mystified by HR woman's phone call this morning although they did say they'd call to see how the interview went).

Re: epidural, this friend of mine's wife wasn't "allowed" to have one cos her mum said she couldn't I'm assuming the mum must have been there as an extra birthing partner, I would have evicted her at that stage.

Hi everebody,
Sorry for my dissapearance have been having a hellish week! Went to the diabetes clinic yesterday, and have escaped the insulin for 2 more weeks! yeepee! Was told to eat more though, since I haven't gained an ounce in the last three weeks! Now that is something I CAN do!
As per ussual I was about to leave when I decide to just check if my iron results were back.... Yep! You guessed I am ALSO anemic !!!! and again they forgot to tell me!!! So count me in the iron tablets club!!! Jonah, Wrs. W what was your Hb levels, do you remember? Mine was 98 2 weeks ago, and as I understand it just keeps going naturally down as time passess... But I swear the last two days I had to be literally be scooped out of bed, I am so knackered!! Are you guys feeling similar or is there yet something else wrong with me?!

Trib, Keeping my fingers crossed for your job. Would be lovely to have you among the northeners !

KVG - enjoy the camping trip! I am truly amazed at your energy level! Will keep my fingers crossed for your DH too!

Blimey Lua, you are really not doing too well at the moment are you?! Guess the iron deficiency won't be helping with your fatigue either.

I feel tired quite a lot of the time and I am not doing very much at all, e.g. not working, no kids to run round after, certainly no bloody tiling like charley So on the basis if the rest of you are managing to function at all you are collectively my heroes

KVG - they said I'd hear within the week re: job, which I interpret as being next Wednesday, we'll see. Unlike Mr KVG, I don't really care whether I get this job (or any job) which does at least make things a bit more relaxed.

Not sure what the reason for my friend's mum denying her an epidural was, very harsh indeed though.

I forgot to say, the pain specialist recommended dh get an elliptical trainer machine thingy and do just a v small amount of exercise on it each day, slowly building up his regime. What pain specialist neglected to mention is that the elliptical trainer comes in about a hundred pieces and required at least 2 hours to construct, so it's v fortunate that dh did get his meds increased last week so is feeling a bit more spry than usual! I think I might mention that to the doctor when we see him next.

katzguk · 08/04/2005 16:56

i'm in the iron tablet club!! feeling sooo much better on them though and had to take them with DD so was expecting it this time too!!

Not sure who asked but yep i work part time, i do 3 days in term time and 5 days in the school hols and am paid at the flat rate of 4 days per week all year. i think i win in this situ but shhh don't tell work!

Not sure who was after a lie flat carseat but just to confuse you more this one has just been brought out and it looked really good in the shop, carseat it is also avialable with a very nice looking pram.

katzguk · 08/04/2005 16:56

heres the travel system

pram

charleypops · 08/04/2005 19:42

Evening all!

GTT results were fine - I'm not diabetic after all apparently. Don't trust the results 100% though after Uwila's posts about mix ups. Hope it's true. Yay! Baby's still stubbornly breech though

Gosh Lua - you're levels are a bit all over the place aren't they you poor thing. Thank goodness you're so far avoiding the insulin - lets hope you continue to! Sounds like you are being very good checking yourself and eating carefully. I can't believe (well, actually I can) that they forgot to tell you about the iron. It took my hospital over a week to tell me my sugar was high. So sorry you're knacked - I think a lot of us are getting tired days. I fell asleep in the bath this afternoon which I've NEVER done before.

KVG - hope you had/have a great time and it's not too freezing/uncomfortable. Thank for the link - doesn't work though... Best of luck for Monday's news!

Trib - darn those flat pack gym equipments (can you pluralise that? hmm...) Did dh have the energy after constructing it to actually use it??

Katz - nice carseat link - I've looked at those myself - they look much better than a lot of them. I think they can fit on a number of different pushchairs' chassis but I've heard the Loola is excellent. I'm still getting the Matrix though.

Hi gals,

This is an impossible thread to keep up with Something about Raspberry leaf tea, Strep B, epidurals and back ache....

I don't think the tea is recommended until later?

Something about waxing too...

Pisses me off when I can't keep up with the chat!!!

berolina · 08/04/2005 21:38

Evening all. Just had a little scare over 'was that my waters or wasn't it?' (see Pregnancy section) - was in the blinkin' shower at the time, of all places to be, so couldn't tell the 'obvious' way - but thanks to home vaginal pH testing kit am now pretty convinced it was a false alarm and I'd just had a kick in the cervix or something.
On the GBS issue - I was given a leaflet about the test at the doc's yesterday. They offer it as an 'extra' for 20 €. As I was already aware of it from reading on Mumsnet I thought it was definitely worth the money. It involves having a vaginal and a rectal (!!!) swab.
Trib, when we told our PIL the names we've picked MIL said 'I'll never remember all that, can't you pick something simple'?!? DH doesn't have a middle name, which I've somehow always found quite sad - ours will have two
Charley - glad the results are OK.
Lua - poor you, you're really going through the mill right now...
Trib and KVG - fingers crossed here too...

berolina · 08/04/2005 21:40

Lynny - really hope everything turns out OK.

Lua · 08/04/2005 21:42

YEY! Charley! I am so happy for you! Go and have a choccie for me and you!

Linny, sorry to hear about your white blood count. Did anyone explained why could this be? Hopefully is one more pregnancy nuissance!

On the Gbs subject found this page, which has more information than I could ever care for....
GBS info
I think the most important is that if you had once, you should consider as you still have it. If didn't have the first time, you could have it now. We can get it from anywhere... especially from internal exams in the hospital....

So my question now is: How do we get tested in the NHS doesn't do it? anyone knows?

tribpot · 09/04/2005 06:50

Well done Charley, more choc for you (sorry Lua).

Lynny, sorry to hear about your white cell count, hope you get some good news on Monday.

Re: strep B, 21stCenturyGirl posted a link to the Group B Strep Support site, which also has a link to the private lab which carries out the ECM test that she recommends. I'm going to talk to my cousin (a doctor) about what she did, and then I think I'll speak to my midwife next time around to ask her to request the test for me. No doubt in the spirit of my GP surgery they will want to charge me an arm and a leg (hopefully not literally) to collect the samples.

Berolina, sorry to hear about your waters scare. Hope you are feeling okay now, it sounds from the other thread as if you would know for sure if your waters had broken but I reckon feet up for the weekend just to be on the safe side

Hi all
Hope all OK, forgot to make notes again so we shall see what I remember...
Thanks for all the links on Strep B. I am intrigued to see what my midwife says about it out here. I vaguely remember having a swab taken when I went in to see if my waters had broken with dd. The midwife thought I may have thrush I think although I hadn't noticed any symptoms! It was a Sunday and so not results available till the Monday and as dd was born at 0434 on the mon morning I don't even know if the sample was sent off. I will have to see if there is anything in my notes. I had completely forgotten about this.
Lua - Poor you. I hope that the iron tablets will pick you up a bit and long may you escape the insulin.
Bero - Hope you are feeling a bit calmer now. What a scare for you.
Good luck on the job front Trib and Mr KVG.
Lynny - Sorry to hear you are being given even more to worry about at the moment. Don't ever apologise for having a moan on here. I think you are incredibly brave and strong coping with your lovely dd's problems and staying cheerful and funny. I can't beleive what you had to go through age just 19. What a nightmare! I felt overwhelmed by it all and believing everything the professionals told me etc at 26 with dd having nothing to really worry about!......and still feel it now age 28 to an extent. I hope you are feeling better today! I have had some incredible moans on this forum with nothing real to complain about at all. I am very fortunate indeed but it hasn't stopped me feeling sorry for myself at times. DD has finally gone to sleep after half an hour chatting and singing to herself. I have to get her up and ready to go out by 2.30 as dh has his big rugby game (Cyprus RAF vs Cyprus Army) and so I don't want to miss it. Although how I will watch the game and dd I have yet to work out. The reins will def be in use. Had left over pizza for lunch. mmmm. Had lots of salad and good stuff over the last few days though so don't feel too bad. We are being fed in the mess tonight as there is a big dinner for all the players so I am looking forward to that although don't know what to wear as my spotty back is now a spotty front as well meaning my nice maternity dress will not look quite as nice.
Oooh exciting for me I went out last night with some girlfriends for a leaving do and got chatted up by a lovely young dutch soldier despite being nearly 31 weeks preg. He was very drunk but even so it gave us a good laugh. I was actually wearing a maternity t-shirt too so I thought I looked v pregnant but who knows either I didn't or he had a fetish . He obviously wasn't entirely serious but I enjoyed the attention for a while anyway. Can hardly remember what flirting is!

Cooperoo · 09/04/2005 11:07

Charley - Yay on your glucose test too. Have you ordered your pushchair yet???

bubbaloo · 09/04/2005 13:27

afternoon all,
as usual, havent been around much and its so hard to keep up with you guys.less than 2 weeks left at work now so hopefully i'll be around to chat during the day
trib-know exactly what you mean about names.my parents and fil didnt like the name oscar at first but now theyve realised we're not changing our minds(and even have a door plaque up saying "oscar's room"!)they seem to have come round.you cant please everyone so i think you should stick to your guns and choose a name you both like.btw toby was our second choice of name.
uki-good for you getting a seat.i still havent been offered a seat on the tube and even gave my seat up last week to an elderly chap who could hardly walk.everyone seems to either fall asleep or open their papers when they see me get on!!
kvg-hope you enjoy your camping trip.dont know where you get your energy from as im getting so tired lately that im normally in bed by 9pm
charley-glad the gtt results were good.know what you mean about that sugary drink-yuk!!
hopefully baby will also turn within the next couple of weeks
re:waxing-i think your all really brave as i cant even wax my legs.i think i'll stick to hair removing cream if i can see down therecant even remember the alst time i even saw my feet!!!
has everyone written their birth plans yet?
i havent even started yet as i dont know what i want
im such a coward and hate needles but also hate pain.was thinking of having the epidural seeing as that has got to be less painful than having the baby without, but im also terrified of having stitches and know that there'll be more chance of intervention with an epi
im really confused now and havent got a clue what to go for.is anyone else in the same boat?
the only thing im really definate on is i want the baby cleaned up before they give him to me and i only want internal exams if neccessary-im such a wimp, cant believe im having a baby!!

LipstickMum · 09/04/2005 13:43

Hi everyone

Long post alert !!!

I've just read through and thought I'd respond to some of the issues I was also chatting about...

Coop, Welcome back!!

Trib, I haven't been asked to do a 'kick chart' but I am aware of babies movements. I think they do tend to be nocturnal, basically because when we lie down, they have much more room to wriggle around. Good luck with hearing about the job fingers crossed !!

KVG and Mr KVG, good luck with your new job too!!

Nogger, I'm not really having too many sleep roblems, thank goodness. I do wake up at 3am for a wee wee. Last night was the second time I haven't gone back to sleep. That was because as I went to the loo I saw the unfinished loft disaster so my head was whirling.

Welshie and KVG I had my legs waxed about 5 days before my due date last time. The girl was so worried, I told her if I did go into labour I'd be sending her champagne for starting it all off!
This time, I'll do the same, legs and the more 'drastic' type of bikini line wax

I had back ache after my epidural. Not like a normal back ache, it was very localised around the actual point of entry. I worried about it for days and days, until I realised I was expecting too much from my body to be back in perfect working order 2 weeks after birth.

Charley, very glad you escaped the gestational diabetes Sorry pod is still 'breech', loads of time, don't worry. DO you have an exercise ball to sit on? It improves your posture and encourages baby to get into the right position, I was told. I don't remember any pain after catheter removal (which I assume was before any pushing, can't remember!).

Don't worry about being nekkid girls, nothing should happen that you don't want to. I'm pretty confident the midwives and docs aren't comparing you to a pic of Elle MacPherson or anything! They just see anatomy! Actually, it might be a good idea to put it in your birth plan if you are that worried about it. I know my plan was read and taken very seriously.

Pink, I shall try and remember not to whip out too much boob when I'm feeding babs if you are around Last time I had a tendency to not give a shit what others thought, and was prepared to punch anyone who told me bf-ing was disgusting and could I not go somewhere private Discussion for another thread eh?!

Oooh that's it! Nothing else to add, hope wasn't too long.

I hope everyone is doing ok despite all these snags coming along to annoy us in the last trimester

I spent last night bawling about unfinished building work We all have something on our minds don't we??

LipstickMum · 09/04/2005 13:44

PS. I always go to a salon for waxing, have never done it at home.
