The thread was getting far too long and taking ages to load.

London meet is a week away. I don't have to get the train until 10.30 this time Could someone tell me which tube line to get from Paddington?

OP posts:

Hi Welshie!

No real idea what the implications are in respect of my blood sugar. I do have a blind sacral pit and I have read that people with these are quite likely to get gestational diabetes, so the letter didn't come as much of a shock - I haven't had any problems really since conception, so feel like I've got off lightly so far.

something has to go a bit askew I suppose... That could explain why I get so exhausted these days when out and about. Even climbing the stairs pushes me to the limits.

charleypops · 04/04/2005 12:07

Nogger - did you follow up on this? I'd've been tempted to write to the practice manager. He shouldn't be allowed to continue to give out the wrong information like that - it could be dangerous

tribpot · 04/04/2005 12:08

I'm with Uwila as well, what a load of crap. Hope you have made a suitable complaint, Nogger, that's disgraceful.

I will give two thumbs up to our GP this morning though, he was most helpful and sympathetic and has whacked dh up another level on one of his main painkillers. (I carefully neglected to mention the pain specialist had said he didn't want dh to go above the level he's now on! Ahh, the advantages of the NHS not being very good at sharing information - yet. Obviously they will be much better once I get my tea-making job).

Charley, sorry to hear about your blood glucose. I am terrified of getting a bad result myself so am stuffing myself with Mr Kiplings mini-cakes just in case I have to go cold turkey on sugar.

MrsW, don't forget that my 'dietary advice' consisted of saying that red wine was a good source of iron Will have a look for the link as well.

Re: in-laws, my mum is coming for a week on Granny Duty although is now asking for a day off to go to London to see friends who will be visiting from Oz (if the baby comes at the wrong time so she has to miss their planned meet-up). I think it's disgraceful but I guess I will have to let her. The MIL I am hoping to keep to a few short visits whilst we get ourselves sorted out as her 'advice' is unlikely to be welcome. She's quite good at not being too overbearing at the mo, despite wanting to 'help'.

Charley - te(a)dious - boom boom! I hadn't even thought of that. I am not going to research the Japanese tea-making ceremony as frankly I cannot be bothered, but will try and write something this afternoon.

Hopefully my bro's new baby will be coming to join them at the end of the week. Their dd is very upset about the obvious upheaval that she doesn't really understand - unfortunately I guess you second- or third-timers may have a spell of this to go through as well?

Noggermum · 04/04/2005 12:12

To change the subject from my crap GP, what are those of you with older kids doing with them when you go into labour? All my local friends have young children themselves and I will feel guilty if I have to call one of them at 3am to take another toddler! The only other option I suppose is mum or MIl staying around the due date but that could mean a stay of 4 weeks! Yikes....more than my/DH's sanity is worth!

teabelly · 04/04/2005 12:13

Morning (just) all,

Had a busy time this morning catching up at work after being off last week, but done the important stuff (emails!!) so can catch up on here now

Welshie - good for you, very proud I have a great jacket for this spring weather that makes me look massive - will defo get seat offers until I go on leave as I'm sure they all think I'm gonna drop imminently!!

Hi there Noggermum - glad you've crashed our thread - I've a May date too (28th) but originally had been down as the 2nd June, and thought this one would come late as ds did...however (along with Lua and Charley) I'm getting tons of twinges down below...and a feeling of all begining to open up iykwim...so wouldn't be surprised if she decided to make an earlier appearance Sorry to hear about your possible concerns over your bout of chickenpox...fingers crossed here for you

Charley - what a bummer about the GTT - if you're not a wimp like me about needles then the worst part really is the drink...just hold your nose and swallow!

Mrs W - sympathise over the dilemma re in laws. My mum is lovely but has an awful tendancy to take over and although she lives in the next village I can see her camping over at ours once this one is here...when ds was born she was still living in Aus, so stayed with us for a very long 3 weeks where it became a competition and almost a battle to see who could deal with the baby quicker...hoping this time as she's not living in our house it will be better, but then again it's on a permenant basis, and that scares me!! But I do think we'll need some help so don't want to cut off my nose....upshot is we're gonna play it by ear and hope for the best!

Lua - don't complain about the weight loss - if bubs is putting on weight and growing then I'd say there was no problem in fact if it were me I'd be very pleased I had in effect been losing weight myself...less work to do afterwards!! Re the plumber - he's there at the moment (being overseen by my mum, poor man) so fingers crossed this is his last trip!

teabelly · 04/04/2005 12:20

Oh it was still just morning when I started typing my last message!

Noggermum - re your dh's sanity! As my mum lives in the next village and dh's mum in the next one the other direction we're very lucky that both have said to drop ds in on our way to the hospital whatever time of day...all we have to do is make sure that whichever one we pick, the other doesn't take it personally

welshmum · 04/04/2005 12:21

Noggermum - I've put off deciding what to do with dd until I know whether I'll be recommended a c-section or not. If I get one of those I'll get dh to take dd to nursery and then come on to the hospital and hope things haven't got too far by the time he arrives Gosh that sounds really crap as I write it down - might have to make another plan. Lovely SIL is in the next road so she might have to be involved somehow...
Hello tea - we decided you hadn't come on Saturday because the pumber was such a dish On the subject of in-laws, mine arrive from NZ at the end of May for 4 months - they're staying with SIL. I hesitate to say it but I 'think' it'll be ok.....that sounds a bit crap as I write it down too

Lua · 04/04/2005 12:35

I am trying to import my sister and MIL to cover the 4 week possible arrival dates. There will be stress associated with visitors, but I don't have anyone to leave DD with while I go to the hospital, so I see as areal favor they are doing.... With the diabetes things can get even more complicated and CS can become a possibility, so need cover! Also, I think with them here DD can get more attention all around and ease her transition to a two child family, IYSWIM....

Ohh, Charley, really really hope you don't get diabetes!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! But considering your size it is a good idea to make sure you don't have it. I am sure the last thing you want is a 10 pounder like my guy is shaping to be....

Noggermum, hope all the cpox wories turn out to be nothing! What a thing to have hanging over your head!

teabelly · 04/04/2005 12:35

HA HA HA Welshie - I wish - he looked more like Michael Howard's older brother - definitely not my type and far far far from dishy, he he he!

teabelly · 04/04/2005 12:38

Lua! blimey a 10lb'er, ouch, that's brought tears to my eyes!

welshmum · 04/04/2005 12:52

We should run a sweep on who's going to have the biggest baby. Anyone up for it?

welshmum · 04/04/2005 12:53

Oops that wasn't meant to sound dismissive of anynoe who's looking at diabetes problems - apologies if it did. Would still like to do sweep though.......

teabelly · 04/04/2005 13:03

I'd be up for a sweep - whoever has the biggest baby definitely deserves a reward

Lua · 04/04/2005 13:06

Well, I actually went to do some research and perhaps I overestimated. Bubba is consistently somewhere between 75 - 85 percentile in abdominal circunference. so that would be actually 8.5 - 9 lbs.... Phew... that looks much better doesn't?

Still, I am up for the competition! I can always stop taking care of my sugar if the prize is good!

How about a year of chocolate supplies to make up for the lack of sugar during pregnancy!?
I'm up for it.

teabelly · 04/04/2005 13:08

Ha ha ha Lua! that sounds eminently fair to me!!

welshmum · 04/04/2005 13:11

We could all chip in and then arrange for something nice to be delivered to the winner once they've all arrived.

welshmum · 04/04/2005 13:19

Anyone else got a more lively than ever space invader? I know they're supposed to be most active between 30 and 32 weeks but mine is occasionally making the furniture shake.
Very hard to take part in meetings!
Also I swear it knows when dh is around. This morning when bump was up against him (tmi?) it just kicked and kicked - don't know if it's saying hello or trying to get dh out of the way

teabelly · 04/04/2005 13:28

Welshie, know exactly what you mean - this not so little bump is jumping around all over the place - had to start my kick chart this week, and so far I've had all 10 movements well before the 8am start time!! Re your dh being kicked (you saucy thing you!) apparently they can sense/feel the different heartbeat speed (compared to yours) and dad's voice resonates lower than yours and they can I think hear that very clearly...can't help you with the 'does bump want dh closer or not' tho!!!

Ha ha ha - just had a strawberry muller rice and bump is going mad here!! again not sure if it's in appreciation or disgust

LipstickMum · 04/04/2005 13:38

Morning gals

Great meet on Saturday, delicious lunch too it was a shame some had to cry off at the last minute for various reasons. I can't imagine a meet up with babies that will be hilarious, total chaos I reckon! Thinking about the next meeting, I don't know if this is going to be at all possible and may have to wait until babies are older and we are all more into the groove of first/second time parenting. But! I couldn't help thinking on Saturday, what a shame it is, that for obvious reasons, the northeners and southeners have yet to meet!! It's obviously difficult to travel long distances when pregnant, but I think a bigger gathering would be so much fun! Logistcally a nightmare possibly, but fun, definitely. Anyone agree? Have any solutions to a potential location? Another problem with waiting till babies are older is that it gets colder and outside meet ups are out of the picture.. unless we all go to Uki's? Or Coops??

Trib, go for the Japanese tea ceremony, much more interesting! I've sat through one and it was incredibly long, because there were a few of us!!

Lua, I've been getting those stretchy, period like pains, mainly on 'the dark side' as you call it. Depends what I've been doing, they don't go on for too long and I think, as you say are just 'growing pains'.

Charley, grrrrrrrrrr annoying for you too to be saddled with gest. diabetes I have a mw appt tomorrow, I hope I don't get any news like that!! By the way, are you seriously telling me you haven't chosen a travel system yet??!!!

Nogger, I am enlisting parental help to look after dd1 when I go into labour. MIL lives locally and parents are an hour away.

Right, I need lunch badly !!

MrsWednesday · 04/04/2005 13:41

Great idea for the big baby sweepstake, count me in. No cheating Lua!

Nogger, your GP sounds shocking. And you really don't need the added worry hanging over you either. I see from the stats thread that you are a fellow Leeds lady like myself...now's there's two of us (and KVG in York, I think) we can take on the Manchester lot (Lua and JonahB are from 'the other side').

I can't decide what to do with DS when labour starts. My sister has volunteered to come over if it's the middle of the night as she only lives 2 miles away, and the in-laws have also offered. Sis would be great but she's not particularly confident with DS (she doesn't have kids herself). ILs are better but much more irritating . Have got friends in the area but they've also got little kids so don't want to impose. Might have to put my head back in the sand and worry about it nearer the time.

Noggermum · 04/04/2005 13:45

I've been putting my head in sand too Mrs W, you never know, I may end up with another induction which is crap from a pain point of view but definitely good from a child care point of view!

Re weight sweepstake - NONE of you are allowed to keep those legs crossed until 42 weeks gestation in the hope of producing a bigger baby!

The prize may have to be a two month supply of cool gel packs /tenor ladies though....

teabelly · 04/04/2005 14:19

Ha ha ha Nogger hadn't thought of crossing my legs to win...mind you never think to cross my legs !!!

Would still rather go with the chocky prize rather than the cool gels/tenna's he he he!

MrsWednesday · 04/04/2005 15:03

Found it!

Trib's link

Was just nosing around some other threads and noticed that Sophmum has just got a BFP. Great news.

teabelly · 04/04/2005 15:08

Mrs W that's fab news - not the december thread????

teabelly · 04/04/2005 15:19

Oh it's ok Mrs W have seen the thread you're talking about - will keep all fingers, toes and even legs crossed for her !
