It'll be an alternative merry Christmas for us this year ;)

Tummum- I had SPD confirmed today. I have an unusually high pain threhold (basically got thro labour 10cm dilated without much noise or pain!) and have been pushing through the pain accordig to the pyshio.. doesn't help I have a massively hyperactive 11 month old! I have also lost muscle definition in the right side of my face and the arches of my feet so if I am honest I feel 66 instead of 26!

I have been told to do nothing and not to open my legs further than 10cms in the next week so my mom and mil are on hand from 8am until 6pm when dh returns from work. Annoying really because I don't actually feel ill just broken! I need my pelvis to 'knit' back together in order for me to start managing my pain and stopping when it gets too much I also have an attractive back brace that makes my orginally beautifully formed bump look like a flabby belly!

Anyway I will be on here 24/7 for the next week!

Problem is I suffered PND after my dd's birth and struggle to allow anyone else to look after her, my mil has already strated on about taking her back to her house and out for the days and I could feel my anxiety building, maybe it is a good time to test my boundaries as I have finished my counselling... god the trials and tribulations babies bring!!! Altho wouldn't change my beautiful Ruby or the baby bean!!!

Rubysmom08 · 07/01/2009 19:54

tummum I was also meant to say glad the rest worked x

Lazzer · 07/01/2009 19:54

P.S. pulapula I really like Jacob, Finley and Zachary (and their abbreviations).

I'm still keen on Alexis (Alex, or Lex) for a boy but whenever I tell people they usually frown and say "but isn't that a girls name?" Err, yes, but it's also a boys name!

pulapula · 07/01/2009 20:10

Thanks for the comments. I like William shortened to Billy too- just need to avoid Bill (Bill and Ben would be a bit naff and has already been joked about).

I like Jonny, but not Jonathan- worked with one and he was a bit annoying!

cece · 07/01/2009 20:19

My dad's cousin has two sons. One is called William and the other is called Bill

pula
Will
Ollie
Fin
get my votes. you sure Jacob would get shortened to Jake? My 1st choice is mildly controversial and DH has ALWAYS said no, though just now he did say it could be a middle name, so I guess that is progress!

Tummum · 07/01/2009 20:39

Rubysmom glad you got diagnosed and good luck with your boundaries ! I know what you mean about letting others do 'your' things. I find it hard to let others do the stuff I normally do, but am trying to enjoy the rest and reduced pain ! Flippin heck with the pain threshold !!!!!

Momino · 07/01/2009 21:21

evening all.
my bra is 'hurting', actually it's my ribs, I think. Am feeling like I've grown in the past couple of days so tummy is stretching - better get the anti-stretchmark cream! I've avoided s/marks for two pregnancies, I'm worried this one will tip me over, though especially at 39.

also, someone's just mentioned a 'health in pregnancy grant' available to those due past April 09 at 25+ weeks. Something about promoting wellness in pregnancy ... forgive me if you've spoken about this but it's the first i've heard of it!

llareggub · 07/01/2009 21:27

I've heard about the grant, and that midwives will have the forms in April ready for claims to be made. No idea if that is true though, but I do have plans for the £190!

Re SPD: I had this last time, and have had the odd twinge now and again this time which has made me really worried. I was told last time to keep my legs together as much as possible, and remember to be as ladylike as possible when getting out of cars, bed etc and to wear flat shoes. I found that if I did too much it hurt, but if I sat still on the sofa for too long then it hurt too.

delightedoldbag34 · 07/01/2009 21:29

pula - my good friend has a Jacob and he is ADORABLE. I'd go so far as to say probably the cutest baby I've ever seen (not including my two though obviously! ). Anyway gorgeous. And weirdly she wanted to call him Benjamin but another friend beat her to it (shame).
A word of warning re: Finlay - a couple of teachers I know have pre-warned me not to call this DS of mine Finlay as ALL the Finlays (and that's another thing - it is quite common, at least where I am), they know are horrors. Am sure this isn't scientific but was enough to put me off. I also like Oliver and Will off your list.

pulapula · 07/01/2009 21:29

Alapala- I know a Jacob who is called Jake by his mum and dad although officially is still Jacob.

1stMrsF · 07/01/2009 21:29

What an interesting discussion - I hadn't even thought about the dynamics of gender combinations etc. (probably because I was only expecting to get one first time LOL)
delighted I hadn't heared that about there being a higher chance of getting a 3rd of the same gender if you already have two the same but it would make sense wouldn't it? There is evidence that X & Y sperm do behave differently - last longer in the body, swim at different rates etc. and also the environment of the women's body can have an influence I believe so you might get a combination of two people where she is more receptive to sperm of one type or the other. How fascinating. Thanks too for your congrats - I shall tell DH that your DH is ; he is pretending that he'll be outnumbered and miss out on playing footie etc. but I think he is pleased really.
Reggiee - it's funny you should say that it seems there are more boys, on another forum I am part of an antenatal thread and we have more boys on there too...

delightedoldbag34 · 07/01/2009 21:31

I also like Sam, but I know someone else with 2 boys called Ben and Sam and when she shouts for them it sounds like she's calling for a couple of labradors!

pulapula · 07/01/2009 21:32

Delighted- the only thing putting me off Jacob a bit is that we do know a Jacob so dont want to look like we are copying. With William, some good friends have it lined up as their boys name (they have 2 DDs and are thinking about trying for no3)- I would have to test the water with them...

delightedoldbag34 · 07/01/2009 21:34

Sorry, to qualify the above comment I should also add that I used to know someone with 2 chocolate labrador dogs called Ben and Sam. Don't mean to sound rude, just reminded me of her dogs!

pulapula · 07/01/2009 21:36

It's funny how some people have the same name combinations- I also know someone with 2 boys Ben and Sam, and my Aunty has a Katie and Ben like me. I have twin cousins called Ben and Dan - sounds like I copy all my names from others . At least Zach would be original- dont know any of those.

delightedoldbag34 · 07/01/2009 21:38

pula - that's tricky isn't it, when you like names that your friends have mentioned but there's no guarantee they'll ever get to use them (or might change their minds in the meantime). That's why I don't tell people (in RL) my actual fave names. I tell them a selection of my mental shortlist but tend to miss out my actual name choices. Although having said that I don't think anyone 'owns' a name, but I'd never want to be accused of 'copy catting' either.

Momino · 07/01/2009 22:05

about name-stealing, one of my friends shamelessly took Thalia from our shortlist and admitted that's where she found it. But, I'm ok with it as we can't have another 'ia' name if a girl since we have India and Saskia, need to steer away from similar endings. Shortens our list a bit.

Oh, of the boys names mentioned, i love Finlay but one of my close friends has one so i'd feel like we can't use it.

delighted, I know 2 retrievers named Ben and Sam!

Off to bed now. need some sleep.

llareggub · 07/01/2009 22:16

I've just been talking to my friend about name stealing. She says she wouldn't be bothered at all, and in fact, her and her sister (due at the same time) liked the same name and agreed that would be fine.

Maybe some people just aren't bothered, but I think it would bother me!

Momino here's a little conversation we had about this a few weeks ago:

Sorry so many of you are ill at the moment - must be horrible.

Thanks to those of you for posting the info on financial help etc - I'll be looking into these. I saw also that the government are going to be giving a grant of £180 to pregnant women due after next April - sorry if this was posted on here in the first place!!

Link doesn't work, but I think it must be this one: www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/press_123_07.htm

I'm intrigued by this - also found the following: 9

and this, which suggests that the bill will come into effect 1 Jan 09: www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2008/uksi_20083108_en_1

and this, which says that information for mums to be will be available from Jan 09 and that claim forms will be available from doctors and midwives: campaigns.direct.gov.uk/hipg-stakeholders/index.html

Thanks for posting about this MsG I suspect that we will be amongst the first mums to benefit from this grant, so its good to know about it and make sure we get the information.

Morning everyone

DD2 starts nursery for the first time this afternoon, she keeps asking if we can have dinner yet so we can go to nursery? and will we be able to go to nursery once the telly is turned off???

Momino · 08/01/2009 09:50

Good morning! Great news about the grant, I missed the conversation last time, thanks for re-posting.

Reality/fantasy about spending £190.... i'm going to start dreaming. What i want to be sure is that it doesn't just get swallowed into regular bills, overdraft, etc so we don't see the benefit. I want to be sure to nominate it towards something specific, say, new buggy. or new pair of boots .

llareggub, about name stealing - my sis was going to use an unusual name that was on my list for years before dd1 was even a spark. it's quite unusual and she admitted finding it on my list but it was her no. 1 choice. i was gutted and now feel it's not a good name for us to use. i'm over it now but do agree that name stealing can be a bit irritating (to say the least).

bantam, hope DD has a good time at nursery. how old is she? it's good she sounds eager.
