brettgirl2- thats nice news about the mat grant - hadnt heard about that before.

tristaleejac- good to hear that things are going well for you and dp.

lixan - fantastic news - very pleased for you.

sorry but cant remember all the rest of what i was going to say (I know I do that every time but there is loads since I was last on).

Had work night in on Friday - was better than I expected but everyone else got drunk very veyr quickly so a few red faces today - was glad for once that I hadnt been drinking as was funny to see everyone else make a fool of themselves for a change.

exciting all the chat about new things for babies - although this one is kicking lots now, i still dont quite feel at the point of getting really excited and buying stuff - i think probably cause we have spent so much already this month, so maybe in January...

was thinking of the benefits of stopping for mat leave early, and will be able to go to an aquanatal class cause they are all on during the day so that will be good - dh can have a boys day with ds while i pretend to exercise

BabyCRIMBOlat · 22/12/2008 10:29

Oh tristalee - completely forgot about your news (we talk too much!!!) that is great - yay for you so glad he is putting you and the baby first now!!

bubs is really quietened down over the past few weeks - still getting it every once in a while but not the regular beatings that it usually goes for! Should I be worried do you think?

OP posts:
SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 10:42

fwiw my lil monkey has been a bit on the quiet side mainly bashing around first thing in the morning an last thing at night

i think this is the big growth spurt stage so things are getting a bit more cramped etc so they quieten down

but will look on the web to check my info ....hang on

SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 10:59

well apparently they put on approx a pound in weight between week 22 - 25 and start listening to sounds so maybe its the growth thing or it could just be that they are being super attentive

BabyCRIMBOlat · 22/12/2008 11:02

Let's hope so, just looked and found a horrible site - things to expect - things to be worried about (one of which was sudden decrease in movement!!) think I will see how it goes and if it doesn't pick up might pop up to the hospital on Wednesday and get it checked out!

OP posts:
SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 11:05

right am going to get my ipod and put the earphones against my tum and see if that gets a response

SnowySunshine · 22/12/2008 11:08

lixan, that's fantastic! I was so happy I told my DP (he's the only one around) & he seemed a bit confused, but sends his congratulations anyway Thank you for telling us

BB, I wanted the pistachio one But we found it really cheap with an offer on the 'jet sport' one, or whatever it's called, that I couldn't really complain about the colour. I figure I won't mind so much after a couple of weeks anyway. It'll just be a pram. I hope!

mathsmummy, I can't say I'm excited about washing & ironing yet. Although yesterday I completely cleared our dirty laundry pile & nearly wept with pride. I don't know when I got so domesticated that I care I then put the clean clothes into piles of 'mine' & 'his' & made DP look at them. I think I'm now allowed to buy more maternity clothes

My bump's quiet this morning for the first time since I got all worried about it. But my tummy also looks visibly bigger since yesterday, so I think he's resting after his latest growth spurt. I kept telling DP yesterday that my skin felt really stretched, so when I got up this morning he was impressed to see the difference.

Does anybody else find it insane that lixan's started a September thread? September! How is it that we're so pregnant that people are discovering that they're due in September now? Madness!

hollytree · 22/12/2008 11:17

babycrimbolat - sure it's just growing etc but if you have time, you could try the lying relaxing on the sofa, eating some chocolate or having a hot or cold drink and then seeing if it moves cuase you are more likely to notice it if you are relaxed.

i know you do have to watch for things carefully, but you can also read too much cause i was reading about how the cord can become tangled or knotted inside and that got me panicking, but the number of times that actually happens must be so so small.

but i also dont think that midwives mind you asking for a quick heart beat check to reassure you.

SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 11:19

oooookkkkkkkk so the baby either loves or hates numb encore (jz & linkin park) lol

dd has run off with my ipod she loves that song

snowy just think how pregnant the september ladies will be when we have our babies to snuggle lol

SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 11:27

there is far too much scary information available ...... much prefer the nice development sites

BabyCRIMBOlat · 22/12/2008 11:43

Sure it is fine - he or she is probably just resting for the Xmas excitement!! I try not to read to much actually as they all say what you should or shouldn't look like, weigh, feel etc and I am never what they tell me I should be but unless I feel something is wrong am not going to worry about it too much!

I am not surprised it is not moving - am writing a business proposal for an economic analysis of SME and MId-Corps (even I want to go to sleep!!!) Maybe I will try some linkin park later on today...

hollytree · 22/12/2008 11:59

wow babycrimbolat - that sounds like fun

have been looking at some of the active conversations and seems quite a lot kicked off on here this weekend with the older members etc. I always used to get annoyed when people would post questions and others would come on and say - we've discussed this already as if, if you hadnt been a member since the start, you werent entitled to discuss anything, instead of it being a forum that was always moving along as new people joined.

And you can choose whether to post or not, so if you think a topic has been covered before, you can choose to either post what you learned from that topic, or ignore it. rather than make people feel unwelcome for posting at all.

anyway - rant over. only 5 hours till christmas holidays begin for me - yay.

SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 12:02

Holly i noticed it over the weekend, so confined myself to our happy thread and ignored the rest of it (i'm technically a noob so dont feel i can venture there)

3 MORE SLEEPS TO GO

SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 12:10

i think people forget that they were all newbies at one point. but hey ho

BabyCRIMBOlat · 22/12/2008 12:15

It does make me cross when I read some of the other posts (but I never actually post!!), I am all for being able to say what you think but some people are just purposely horrible! Even if you don't agree you can say your thing without being nasty!!!

OP posts:
hollytree · 22/12/2008 12:20

yup exactly - i think when its all anonymous and the forum is quite big, people sometimes think they can say what they like (maybe especially if they bottle things up in rl), but forget others might take things really quite personally.

antenatal and post natal threads are much friendlier, and its nice to get to know a smaller number more closely.

Am starving and an hour till lunch - have run out of snacks. normally at this time of year there is loads of chocolate in the office kitchen, but no firms are really giving each other presents this year - but good for the waistline i suppose.

Claireykitten · 22/12/2008 12:43

ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

My lickle man has pox of the chicken!! Looks like we are going to have a lovely spotty christmas and I'm not going to be going out for my birthday tomorrow! According to the doctor as long as I have had it baby should be ok and I am 90% sure I have and am just waiting for my mum to confirm it so that should be ok.

Right I am now going to go trawl through all the post and see what you have all been up to.

xXx

BabyCRIMBOlat · 22/12/2008 12:46

Oh claireykitten - get the camomile lotion out now!!!

OP posts:
SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 12:58

oh no claireykitten, what bb said bathe him and you in it if you have to

SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 13:00
Claireykitten · 22/12/2008 13:15

What does calomine lotion do for him coz the doctor said I could use it if I wanted him to look like he had rubbed up against a blackboard but didnt seem too impressed by the stuff so dont know whether to get some or not.

xXx

SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 13:18

stops the itching and dries out the spots really quickly.

dd had it in may i covered her in the stuff and she was back to non spotty within about 3/4 days

SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 13:21

ClaireyK - here you go

Chicken Pox Treatment - Lotions
The most common lotion used for chicken pox is Calamine lotion. This or any similar over-the-counter preparation can be applied to the blisters to help dry them out and soothe the skin.

Chicken Pox Treatment - Antihistamines
Over-the-counter and prescription antihistamines may be used to control severe itching. Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) is available over-the-counter and hydroxyzine (Atarax) is available by prescription. Both of these antihistamines cause drowsiness and may be helpful at night to help the patient sleep. The newer antihistamines such as loratadine (Claritin), certrizine (Zyrtec), and fexofenadine (Allegra) can be used to control itching but do not cause drowsiness.

Chicken Pox Treatment - Preventing Scratching
Scratching increases the risk of secondary bacterial infections. All patients with chicken pox should have their nails trimmed short. In addition, small children may have to wear mittens to reduce scratching.

SantasNuttySTaff · 22/12/2008 13:23

sorry ignore the antihistamine one (adult only i guess)

Carameli · 22/12/2008 13:38

Hi ClaireyK, my ds had it when he was 8wks old and my dd was 3. DD was prescribed something from the doctor. I cannot remember what it was called but it was the suspension form of zovirax I think. It worked wonders on her. Might be worth asking GP about it.
They also gave me some calmine cream which was also great.
