Hello everyone!! I am at work and I look gorgeous today with lovely hair and even make up on!! People are using the blooming word!! (When I am not holding the crutches, anyway).

Not sure what's up with your bits, Nutty. I think you might have a few minor things going on. A quick response before I go off to my research meeting.

If it was me I would probably do the usual anti-thrush regime (no fancy toiletries, cotton pants and so on). I would probably avoid tights and even trousers where possible (bit hard this time of year, but maybe leggings or smart jersery trousers might be an option for polite company).

You can get a magical steroid cream from the doctor (forget name, but it's a steroid only version of Trimovate) which solves a multitude of pregnant girls' bits problems much better than lots of over the counter solutions. Whop a load of that on at night and in 2 or 3 days you may notice a distinct improvement.

The wee release (quite normal, by the way, but do lots of pelvic floor exercises to fend off the worst excesses) might be aggravating a bit of sensitivity down there, as might the bleach in the Tena pads, or even your soap powder (use Filetti for pants).

Tip from an old-timer - deliberately pull pelvic floor muscles up before you laugh, cough or sneeze, by the way, to reduce - ahem - emissions.

Wonder what everyone else thinks might help?

B52s · 04/12/2008 12:57

Hello Nutty If I need a wee and then cough or laugh suddenly a bit comes out, enough to change pants. Embarrassing but liveable with, especially when compared to Boffin's SPD! It's just weak muscles. . Not had the sore perineum business though - although could well be to do with wee irritating the skin.

What a charming lot we are.

SantasNuttySTaff · 04/12/2008 12:59

thanks boffin

am skirt or jeans only kinda girl so - ckeck

sorry double post

KittyCat8 · 04/12/2008 15:08

Hi ladies!

Am VV jealous of all your beautiful new Xmas hairdos, so i've just finished putting a bottle of Chestnut goo on my luscious locks and am waiting for it to develop! It's DH's office party on Sat and I'll be meeting his colleagues for the first time, so gotta look hot (as well as preggies!)

Did anyone else struggle to find something to wear? We're on a serious budget cos I got made redundant in Oct so I'm squeezing into an old dress, let's hope the sides don't pop before the evening's out...

KittyCrackers · 04/12/2008 15:10

PS how do y'all like the Festive Nickname? It's DH's suggestion... not quite sure what he's trying to say... ha ha ha!!

Or should that be Ho Ho Ho??

VirginBoffinMum · 04/12/2008 15:29

Nutty, can I just say my pelvic floor isn't too bad, because I use Aquaflex cones to keep it fit, and I can use quite a heavy weight in the cone (!) but I still leak very occasionally at the moment, and I think it's because in pregnancy it's almost as much the pressure of having another person in there pressing down as the actual strength of the muscles. Plus I am sure hormones play a part, which is why women who have had a CS still have to do pelvic floor exercises. So you are definitely not alone.

You could use an unbleached panty liner instead of Tena, but I wonder if you have actually been drying your bits out too much and whether they need to be a more natural state, shall we say.

Remember when doing the pelvic floors there are actually three areas. As the very coy, childless postnatal keep fit lady used to say at classes I attended after DS1, in a Joyce Grenfell voice, "Front bottom, birth canal, back passage". You need to exercise all of them with all of the different exercises each time, or you don't get the benefit.

Also remember quick flicks are for continence, and the lift going up five floors, staying there for five seconds, and going down to the basement is to avoid getting a prolapse, if I have understood that correctly (have I remembered it right, ladies? Am I telling Nutty the right thing?)

BabyCRIMBOlat · 04/12/2008 15:47

Oh VBM - that is so glamourous - I am sat here doing them and feel hideous!

KittyCrackers - great name!!

VBM you have made me really want to do something about my appearance now!! Feeling very very blurgh!

hollytree · 04/12/2008 15:48

man i should have gone to some classes - i got a tiny little talk from a midwife in the ward after ds about pelvic floor exercises but not really how to do them.

maybe i should read up a bit although so far, touch wood, havent had any leakages, but i suppose prevention is better than cure.

i do what i think are exercises from time to time but i have absolutely no clue if i am doing the right thing - think you need to give us a pelvic floor masterclass virginboffinmum

gingersarah · 04/12/2008 15:49

Does anyone have a pain in the chest? I think it is muscular, perhaps ribs being forced to expand... it feels like a bruise or a rub, above the bump and under the boob, more on the right than on the left... gets worse in the afternoons and better after sleeping. I assume that this is nothing to worry about and just a things-shifting-around type thing, does anyone else know any better, or does anyone think there is any reason to get it looked at? Afternoons are quite achey at the moment, between that and my back - but I am very lucky to be so well in general.
Boffin, you are inspiring us all with glamour in the face of adversity! More power to you and well done on being in work.

VirginBoffinMum · 04/12/2008 16:17

Quick flicks, ladies.
Every female at every bus stop in the land is doing them as they queue.

Hello there April Mums and Bumps, I hope you are very well.

Just to say I had my 20 wk scan yesterday and we're having a girl ;-)

Less good news of a very low-lying placenta and some oddly positioned vessels but going to be monitored closely, so trying not to worry.

Best wishes

BabyCRIMBOlat · 05/12/2008 10:12

See nutty I am the biggest kid at Christmas (we go to my parents every year and I still wake them up at 5 to go down and open all the presents!) but I don't know why this year I am just not there yet - we are going to put our decorations up this weekend and there is a Xmas market today near to work so I am hoping to get in the spirit soon... I think I am mostly looking forward to two weeks off of work!!! yay!! and then after Christmas i really is scarily close to baby time!!

SantasNuttySTaff · 05/12/2008 10:26

i'm always the first up on crimbo morning too
i lovelovelove it all, getting up and putting new christmas day clothes on, crying cos i miss my mum & wishshing she was still around, the tearing into prezzies like a demented person with dd, gorging on yumm crimbo dinner, and all the choccies, playing games till you flop out on the sofa to watch crap telly with mulled wine in hand, and lots of crimbo hugs and snogs from dh. ahhh tis the best day of the year makes me all warm, smiley and fuzzy just thinking about it

i'm so trying not to think how quickly baby day is going to come after christmas it seems to go so fast especially as my birthday and dd's is just before eek
