LuLu you will have to race me to the spare bed! I might let DH look at that particular post tonight!!!

LuLu glad the scan went well - out of interest who wanted to know and who didn't?

DH desperately wanted to know and I wasn't sure. It's daft but I didn't know last time so I feel I ought not to know this time, in the interest of fairness (doh!?). Of course I am very curious (I couldn't see a willy and I really did look)

The weather is better now, so DD and I are going to go and pot some Tulip bulbs so that we hopefully have some things in flower come April

babypringle · 27/11/2008 12:14

mizzannie - don't assume that they will tell you the gender at the extra scan - I had to go back with DS because they couldn't get the measurements, and was rather curtly told that the purpose of the scan was just to get the missing measurements, not to allow me to see the baby / find out gender / be a nice experience. hopefully you'll get a nicer sonographer than us tho

BabyBolat · 27/11/2008 12:34

oooh baby pringle, I would have told them the purpose of their job is to look after their patient! what a witch!!

LuLu you sound like such a good mummy always baking or doing things with DD! I hope I am that good!

LuLuBai · 27/11/2008 12:45

Bulbes all planted and just got inside in time as looks like it will bucket down. 2 types so hopefully at least one of them will flower in time for Baby2's arrival.

Wow - what a cow babypringle. I had to be scanned every few weeks with DD and each time they asked me if I knew / wanted to know the sex. Oooooh the temptation. But I resisted each time.

BabyBolat - very sweet of you to say that, but I probably do spend a bit too much time MNing when I ought to be playing with DD. That said, I did buy some cookie cutters in the shape of a dove yesterday (her name means dove) so we can make people gingerbread doves for Christmas.

Mad preg-head was looking at the other cooky cutters for name inspiration - thinking that with 2 babies next Christmas they would each need their own cookie cutter.

I really cannot spell right now. Apologies.

Hello all

Just had a quick skim read through the thread ? so much happening on it!

Had my scan yesterday (21 weeks on Sat). We left DD with MIL which meant DH and I could have a quick lunch afterwards ? a rare treat! All is fine. DH was quite keen to find out the sex, but I really didn't want to and he went along with my wishes (just wish he'd agree to a home birth too!). We saw the baby yawn, and got really clear images of fingers and toes. Really cute. Placenta nicely high lying so no worries there and they were happy with all the measurements. The sonographer was quite young, and maybe newish to the job, and did a fantastic description of all she was seeing. DH missed DD's 20 week scan (he was really poorly with dreadful food poisoning) so we were both delighted he could make this on.

Glad some of you have sorted names out! DH revealed ours to his family on the weekend to a mixed reception, which has made me all the more convinced to keep them under wraps until they are a done deed! People can put you off easily with a slight comment ?

Take care all of you (sorry not to reply to individual posts, but not enough time to read them all properly!).

Soundbites xx

Hospital bag? Goodness - that would be organised.

BabyB - I thoroughly recommend planting some bulbs to flower around the time Caravan is due. For DD I had lovely scented Daffodils, this time I have gone for a selection of Tulips.

You can put them on a windowsill if no other outdoor space. And remember you will be getting LOADS of visitors when the baby arrives so it will be nice to have some flowers outside brightening things up (inside will probably look like a florists shop anyway with all the bouquets you get sent).

SalBySea · 27/11/2008 14:17

hi

woa! hospital bag talk already! I feel like a slacker LOL!

I spoke to the midwife on the phone - there is no way that they can fit me in for a post scan apt till the new year but she said that it would be fine

The bloody hamatology lab rejected my sample AGAIN and AGAIN noone told me - if they told me I woulda gone straight back to get it redone! I know it wasn't the lab's fault that the midwife put the wrong number on the form the first time and the phlebotomist put the wrong name on the bottle the second time, but they coulda TOLD me or my gp or my midwife that it was rejected each time so we coulda done something about it straight away! Didnt find out till I asked the MW to follow it up! I'm now 20 weeks and still havent had 12 week bloods done (blood group, rhesus factor and antibodies)

The midwife said that as long as I can feel the baby and my bump is growing that I shouldnt worry about weight gain (or lack of it) which is good

SalBySea · 27/11/2008 14:20

Sarahmum - might be worth ringing and checking. At the one I go to it has a strictly only 1 extra person per scan rule due to the size of the room

babypringle · 27/11/2008 14:22

hospital bag - isn't that the thing you pack in a panic when your waters break?

Well the only problem with that is that

  1. I have already done my Xmas shopping in the sense that I know exactly what I am going to get and as soon as pay day comes I will be purchasing them!
  1. I am at work so I can't plant anything! hmph!
  1. oooh hospital bag - I can plan that! All you experts out there, what did you wear for the labour? am too scared to have a home birth!!!

um, wore a vest top and jeans until about 5 mins before DS was born because we left it a bit late to get to the hospital. got the jeans off just, but the top stayed on. I looked pretty shocked in the pictures ...

SalBySea · 27/11/2008 15:01

Nuttytaff my gp surgery doesnt take bloods for some reason - if you need a blood test you have to see your gp, get a form, THEN go and see a phleb at the hospital. Which I think is a royal waste of time and resources!

I'm not at all surprised that the phlebotomist got my name wrong on the bottle - it took her ten bloody minutes to write it. When I left there I remember ringing my husband and telling him about it - I said that I honestly think the woman has mild learning difficulties, she was really slow and dopey! Its good that the NHS has an equal opportunities policy, but surely there are some clinical posts for which candidates should have at least a normal IQ?

BabyBolat · 27/11/2008 15:04

Ha Ha LOL SalBySea - I agree!

I wonder what our birthing stories will be like in 3 / 4 months time!

oh the fun of the hospital bag - absolutely my favourite bit of being pregnant - but i deny myself the chance to make lists and plan it/pack it till later as otherwise i would repack it so many times, I'd need to rewash things etc cause they'd be dusty.

During labour with ds I wore a black stretchy dress cause it happened to be the nearest things when my waters broke (I was in pyjamas at the time) and it was also about the only thing i still fitted by 40+6 but it came off near the end and was starkers for the final delivery.

love the idea of planting things now which will be around in April LuLuBai - i love love love the smell of Lupins so might get some this weekend.

conkertree · 27/11/2008 15:09

and yes - sympathy salbysea - my midwfie last time was similar - i tentatively asked a few questions until i realised i learned more from mn than she could tell me, so after that, just left her to take blood pressure etc and left the questions to others.

very annoying that they cant just take some blood and get it right though.
