HtheH,

Glad you are thinking positive- I'm sure you will have a nice time getting the house ready (nesting) for the new baby, and putting your feet up. I've heard supply teachers pay is pretty good, so a couple of days here and there should keep you going. I would look into statutory redundancy pay too though, as it would be a nice lump sum if you're eligible, as SMP won't kick in til baby is born.

I had to look the hippychick up on google alapala, as i've never heard of it! Not surprised you hardly used it. Looks like a pain to strap on and off, and its one of those things that your baby cries and you pick them up, you don't have time to go looking for your hippychick first! I am also blessed with really wide hips, so a really good shelf for resting LOs on.

I never bought a bumbo but borrowed one for DS (and managed without one for DD). I hardly used it- mainly used it when i was cooking and needed somewhere safe to plonk DS (with DD we put her in her highchair from 5 months, as soon as she could sit up).

Momino · 26/11/2008 15:22

HtheH, I work part time for a charity and will prob get equiv of stat mat pay in May but my employer also told me to go to the jobcentre to see what benefits I may be entitled to (didn't know i was entitled to any!). Maybe you should visit the jobcentre in your area and find out same?

divedaisy, cute about your conversation with DS being a big bro. awww.

can anyone give me any reason not to have another choc chip cookie? I've only had 4 so far. and I'm loving earl grey tea at the moment.

FiKelly · 26/11/2008 16:08

HtheH rotten timing with your job... but i suppose it could have been worse... they could have left telling everyone until after xmas when you'd blown all your wages... that happened to a friend of mine

I don't qualify for any maternity allowance of any kind & I didn't last time either! I gave up my job to move down to look after my mum who was undergoing chemo and became her registered carer.. which gives me a whopping £48 per week from the government! as this isn't strictly classed as a job... more of a benefit. By the time DS came along 2yrs later i'd been out of the employment cycle so long i didn't qualify for a bean. Same situation now with the addition of being a stay at home mum to boot. Of course it's typical that DH is just over their thresholds so rules out any other options! Hence me starting my designing & selling crochet patterns on the website... with a view to hopefully be earning more than pennies some day

On the subject of must haves.... i've just remembered that my pal (now in NZ) has our bouncy chair. I'm def buying another as it was invaluable. Somewhere safe and kept baby happy for enough time for me to have breakfast or a shower. We had one like this I wonder if the postage would be cheaper for her to send it back to the uk than for us to buy another?

SweetBROODY · 26/11/2008 16:18

Thats a real cute bouncer.. Is it true that baby walkers have been made illegal?

Due1stMay09 · 26/11/2008 16:22

Ooh a new thread! Love the name!
I have now moved from the salt n vinegar craving now but dont know what i fancy which is so annoying!
Just a tip for any one that is freezing in this weather - in New Look they have these bump warmers in the maternity section, you get 3 for £9 and they are black, white and grey. I was finding where my bump is getting bigger, all my tops were riding up with my bump and showing my belly in the freezing cold so my fiance found these that u just put on bump and pull them over your trousers, they go with everything and are so warm!!!
My friend who had a baby 5 weeks ago gave me all her maternity clothes yesterday-jeans, tops, combat trousers, all new stuff from New Look, Blooming Marvelous, Mothercare etc and they are so comfy!!!
Hope everyone is well, i have a very wriggly baby at the min lol makes me

SweetBROODY · 26/11/2008 16:31

Due1stMay09 Are they actually belly warmers or the normal belly bands?

Due1stMay09 · 26/11/2008 16:35

No they are actual bump warmers, they go from about under your ribs and just fit over your trousers

SweetBROODY · 26/11/2008 16:41

That sounds great.. is there something like that for boobs

Due1stMay09 · 26/11/2008 16:47

Lol i wish! I am yet to find a comfy bra, mine ache so much at the min, i think that means another growth spurt and ive already gone up a size and they were big before i was pregnant! Joys of pregnancy lol

Due1stMay09 · 26/11/2008 16:50

Mmm ive got potato waffles with salad cream Craving sorted.

SweetBROODY · 26/11/2008 16:57

My boobs seem to have gotten smaller.. but I think my weights all distributed on tummy at the moment and havent put any weight on

Due1stMay09 · 26/11/2008 17:28

SweetBROODY when are you due? I feel huge, this is my first pregnancy and im 18 weeks with visible bump all ready. I think by 40 weeks im going to be the size of a house! But everyones different, i appeared to get my bump over night lol

llareggub · 26/11/2008 17:34

HtheH

Why aren't you entitled to compensation? There is a statutory right to redundancy compensation if you have over 2 years employment. You should also get notice. When will your employment end? You should also get your SMP depending on when your employment ends. I work in HR, happy to answer any questions if you want.

SweetBROODY · 26/11/2008 17:46

I'm due 29th May 09 so I am 13+6 So not quite as far gone as yourself...

I was just thinking that your being start of the month your much further along...

runningmonkey · 26/11/2008 17:56

Hi All,
Back to work today after stinky cold. Told my tutor group about the pregnancy as I wanted them to be the first group of kids at school to know and its becoming v obvious. They gave me a massive cheer and round of applause! Made me

Thanks for all the lists and stuff advice, will be looking back at them definitely. Have persuaded DH that we can go to the big kiddicare near Peterboro on Sat. Am ridiculously excited about it!

Due1stMay09 · 26/11/2008 18:04

You will soon be sprouting boobs and bump!

Im really undecided for ideas for dinner tonight! I want something healthy as we had chinese last night but really dont know what! Any one got any ideas to inspire me??!

pulapula · 26/11/2008 18:11

I have gone off the salt and vinegar craving, and now moved onto haribo sweets lol. Not very healthy. But i have been eating lots of fresh fruit and drinking smoothies today so that should (maybe) balance out the sweets, revels and bacon buttie!

Really hungry now though, as not eaten much since my fruit lunch but got to get the kids to bed first

SweetBROODY · 26/11/2008 18:16

My healthy tip is one tin of any soup you like - chop in tons of veg, some garlic, onion, coriander and dump ina pressure cooker for like 10 mins.. its soooo yumm and sooo quick.. I also add beans of all diff kinds straight froma tin.

And each time you make it its diff - you basically use up all your bits from your larder!

I hope I start showing.. Dont know how i'll convince my boss that I HAVE been going to antenatal appointments otherwise! LOL

Due1stMay09 · 26/11/2008 18:25

Mmm soup does sound good - thats definitely a possibility! Im so hungry lol. Other half is on the way back from work and is ringing me when he gets to tesco bless him, hes going to go along a few of the aisles to see if theres anything i really fancy! Dont know what i would do without him! Will probably be on here again tomorrow, have a good night all

SweetBROODY · 26/11/2008 18:44

Good night sweetheart - i should prob go home too...

frazzledoldbag34 · 26/11/2008 19:49

HtheH - Hello! So sorry to hear you've been made redundant - hope you find out about payments etc. I can't give you any advice (sorry) but you have my sympathies. The good (!) news is we're due on the same day...........aren't we clever. I think that makes 6 or even maybe 7 of us due on the 16th. Obviously there was nothing good on the tv that weekend!
Have no idea what I fancy for dinner, hardly any food in the house (need to do a big shop but toooooo busy) so am currently cooking some sausages which I think I'll put in a roll. I know it's hardly healthy eating but I'll have fruit for pudding. Fancy some more S&V crisps but don't have any, and am in on my own with the kids (in bed) as DH out for the night at (another) wine group . He's sleeping in the spare room tonight as I can't deal with stinky drunk wine smelling men at midnight snoring and annoying me all night
What a grumpy old cow I sound! (but not sleeping well just now so it might be nice to have a night on my own). Have a big meeting tomorrow so need to do some work for that now, eat dinner, tidy up, put the washing away, do a couple more loads of washing so am off now. Might pop back later though.......

chocolatefrog · 26/11/2008 19:50

Hi, haven't been on in ages, can't believe how big this thread is.

Momino - I had PND after the birth of my daughter. I have also have really low days since been pregnant this time. Not sure if it's the normal pregnancy hormones making me feel like this or whether it's more. Sometimes it reminds me of how i felt when i had PND and i'm really quite teary! Went to the docs a few weeks ago, she was great and have refered me to speak to someone, however, its the NHS so could be waiting a long time. Not sure whether to consider going private to 'chat' to someone. I think part of it might be the worry of getting it again, i really don't want to feel how i did last time and i want to enjoy the early days with a newborn and not dread it! It does make me feel better when i hear about other people who've had it. People are relucatant to talk about it so often you feel like you're the only one.

Pulapula - I'm really constipated too, having 'all bran' everyday and fruit and still struggling to go!!

frazzledoldbag34 · 26/11/2008 21:08

Hi - am back!
Where on earth is everyone......is there something good on the telly tonight?
Well, I am feeling fat and guilty now - have eaten sausages and no fruit yet and haven't done many chores.
In fact I've been faffing around on mumsnet and watching Eddie Izzard (Dress to Kill) that I skyplussed the other night. Just lurve Eddie Izzard. The 'Cake or Death' bit is on in a minute I think - hee hee.

Does anyone know (and this is probably very stupid question) - is it ok to have your laptop resting against your bump? I work with it on my knee quite a lot and it's awfully near Junior............this is worrying me. Anyone know?

frazzledoldbag34 · 26/11/2008 21:11

Oh, meant to say, prune juice (you can buy it in big glass bottles in the supermarket) works well for constipation - although can I warn you to exercise caution - DONT drink the whole thing in one go in your desperation (like I once did when PG with DD1 - I was on the loo for hours and thought I was going to die)!!!
Probably a glass at a time with a glass of water would do the trick!
I'd also recommend (and this is just so obvious) drinking LOTS of water. Lots of fresh fruit and veg (duh!) - but really, lots of water really does help me if and when it gets me.

frazzledoldbag34 · 26/11/2008 21:17

Also (and I'm talking to myself again!)
about PND - I know some friends who have had it (in varying degrees) - some diagnosed and some who denied it but quite obviously had it. I probably fall in the latter category (possibly with DD1, and definitely with DD2) - I thought I had PND but couldn't bring myself to go to the docs with it. My HV was a relentlessly cheery soul who kept telling me I was obviosly coping brilliantly and how wonderful! I didn't have the heart to tell her I felt like shit and hadn't bonded with my baby . (By the way I'm fine now, it passed by the time DD was 18 months old but was pretty awful).
One of my best friends has been seriously suffering with PND, and (all credit to her) she was honest with her HV, has weekly counselling and is on medication. She is like her old self again and is doing great. I wish, wish, wish I'd gone to my doc and got some medication too - I certainly will if the depression strikes me again this time. Couldn't bear to go through it again - it's horrid and my heart goes out to everyone else who has struggled with it.
Anyway, better do something useful now and get an early night.
Am also to be talking to myself again. Can't believe i'm the only one here....[echo, echo, echo]
