Morning all

Lynny - I agree with the others - get it checked out again - it's probbaly nothing, but it doesn't hurt any to put your mind at ease...and don't stop asking about it until your mind is at ease

Uwila - ...'And, if they are male, you slap them twice...' HA HA HA - very good I like it

Welshie - bless your dd for tucking you up with her fav toys - my ds may be cute but I'm not sure I'd get the fav toys too!!

Mrs W - I'd do that too - come in early to catch up with here - sad eh!!

Uwila I didn't read the guardian article but agree that you hear more and more about these kinds of things...not sure if it's down to lack of fully trained staff and resourses in hospitals, or maybe also the compensation culture that means everyone's so carefully looking at what they've just done and making sure that all's ok, they miss what's happening now, or are unprepared to take risks they may have done for fear of being sued over their actions if the outcome isn't favourable despite best efforts. Also maybe we hear abit more about things going wrong. I must agree with Coop though that because I had a great pregnancy and birth with ds I never contemplated leaving hospital without my baby, and never really thought too much about the things that could go wrong...the last few months on here have made me think alot more about that than I did before. Sorry abit deep for a monday morning

Will try and lighten the mood by saying Coop although your bump isn't showing very much at the mo, mine must be huge because when I got on the tube this morning 4 people all stood up to offer me a seat...they must have thought I was about to drop there and then!!

welshmum · 21/03/2005 09:55

4 people Tea??! That's astonishing. I'm still not getting a seat, and it's not because my bump isn;t showing either - maybe I just travel on a 'rude line'. Although someone (not on the tube I hasten to add) did tell me yesterday that I was the 'beautiful' stage of pregnancy. I just gave him a kiss - it was a very kind thing to say as I looked like shit and felt worse! (had had a terrible few days of preggie insomnia)
Lynny - once you're happy with the diagnosis you might try one of those pretty cheap cooling gels you can get for after sunbathing - Boots have loads. They do feel lovely when you put them on.

teabelly · 21/03/2005 10:01

Yeah I know I couldn't believe it Welshie - but that's probably my whole pregnancy quota of kind people used up in one hit ...I'll probably never be offered a seat again...(fyi it was the met line between kings x and liverpool st )

Morning ladies!

Uwila, your dd looks very sweet on your advert for a nanny, although for avoidance of doubt, I would have used a picture of her tucking in to a nice boiled egg

Thank you all again for the good wishes, it's been great to be able to share the worry as most of my family didn't realise there was anything other than the 'usual' nightmarish tension about the adoption. They start the visits after Easter and all being well, the little one should come and live with them sometime in April. I think they'll just miss his first birthday, which is a shame.

tea - maybe there were a lot of tourists on your route this morning, still can't imagine a Londoner giving up their seat, however pregnant a person was!

Lua - sympathies as well for the glucose intolerance, and having to wait two weeks to see a dietician. I agree with MrsW, I think we should try and cut down on the choc talk for a while to be supportive. In fact yesterday I didn't even eat any, proving to myself that it can be done

lynny - definitely get yourself checked out, the rash sounds nasty

welshie - amusing bilingual pun about having been lax with salmon this time - lax is Swedish for salmon. (Apologies, here in Suffolk we have to make our own entertainment).

I think it's mercury in farmed salmon which is the issue (for all, not just pregnant women) so apparently wild salmon is the way to go (so MIL informed me, I took no notice). Dunno if organic is the same as wild but probably better for you.

Jonah - re the slippers, I should stress that these are not fluffy pink high-heeled mules or anything, dh is not Ru Paul

Someone's just asked me when I'm due - fortunately as this was over Instant Messenger I assume it's not due to the size of the bump but more of a general 'hmm, isn't it time yet?' type inquiry. Does anyone else feel like they've been pregnant FOREVER?

welshmum · 21/03/2005 10:27

KVG - I love that Hotel Chocolat range - so luxuriously yummy. I'm still addicted to Green and Blacks vanilla white chocolate. I think it may actually be very good for me
Sorry that you're not getting enough sleep. I sympathise SO SO much, I'm a rubbish sleeper at the best of times so am not doing at all well at the moment. It is very annoying when people say that it's 'good practise' but I suppose it kind of is...
As for stories about my cute dd I am going through a totally besotted phase with her and could easily lapse into being totally tedious. I love her, love her, love her soooo much. She is just such good company now, we have such good chats and she's so interested in everything around her. Last night we did flower arranging together and I can see these wonderful mother and daughter times just stretching ahead of me. Then I start to get very anxious about having less time with her and it all going wrong and her hating me forever etc etc

Yes - I've been thinking about that kind of thing too. Usually we have the whole of Wednesday together for our particular social life and I'd like to hang on to this until dd goes to school. Don't know how I'll manage it though - will have to think carefully.

teabelly · 21/03/2005 10:40

LOL, KVG maybe they have been reading about the pregnancy badges on tubes ideas...but I will say that it was a lady who made the first move to stand up, and the 3 blokes were probably embarrassed into offering too ! still I'm not complaining, he he he!

Welshie - I know what you mean about 'eating up' your dd, and loving her...we have the same thing with ds at the mo, everything he does is lovely, even when he's telling me off it's just too cute...maybe it's their age (I think they're around the same age - ds will be 3 in June)...I get all dewy eyed when he does things just lately, then I remember that we had the terrible 2's when he was around 1 1/2 and I think f*ck we're doing it all again, arrrhhh!!!!

welshmum · 21/03/2005 10:47

Yep Tea - dd is 3 next month. She hasn't done terrible twos stuff really so is even more of a paragon in our eyes I think we're bound to be given a tougher cookie to deal with this time around - or maybe one that likes to sleep alot. DD was not that fond of sleeping early on.
I saw a friend with a dd of just 3 weeks yesterday - the dd is already sleeping 11 - 7, can you believe that? I was so jealous. She was absolutely gorgeous too.

OMG lucky lady...ds was a crap night time sleeper... great during the day, tho!! He finally went through from 9-5.30 at 8 mths! After lots of controlled crying....tell me again why I'm having another one

Cooperoo · 21/03/2005 11:31

Hello all.
Just trying to catch up. Do hope your rash is better Lynny. How uncomfortable. I just have loads of spots on my back and chest due to the hormones. Very annoying as I don't normally suffer.
People standing up on the tube this morning too how exciting.
I am late starting today as dd actually slept until 7am this morning which was lovely. DH bought me a cup of tea in bed (as he does every morning in a thermos mug as he gets up so early) and as I was awake at 6.30 I actually read in bed and enjoyed my cup of tea. Dd was sweetness and light too until we had to get her dressed. It took half an hour, luckily we were not due anywhere. My midwife appt was changed this morning to Thursday so I have spent the morning walking around camp to toddlers and the library and catching up with a friend. Lovely time and dd was good too if a bit clingy.
KVG - Hope you don't get too tired today. Nightmare being woken so early.
I am quietly excited at the moment as there is a rumour that the hospital here are going to take over a wing in a private clinic in Limassol so that I will have a chance to deliver with all the staff from our hospital just in a different location. (For those of you who don't know the military hospital here that I was due to deliver in has been closed due to the theatres being out of action. We are faced with delivering at Limassol general with Cypriot staff and only with access to Pethadine for pain relief, no gas and air or epidurals etc). This means I will get my gas and air and if this is confirmed to me on Thursday it is going to make a huge difference to my confidence about the whole birth thing and allow me to relax and enjoy the rest of this pregnancy. It has all been affecting me alot more than I have let on. So keep your fingers crossed.

Lua · 21/03/2005 11:32

Morning all!

Good to hear we all had a good weekend. The weather here was gorgeous and dd was soo happuy to spend time outside! She can now proudly identify daffodils, crocus, blue bells and tulips on her own! I did some garden work and moved DD into a real bed this weekend, but was exhausted at the end of it. SO am truly impressed with you, Jonah!

Lynny, don't mean to scare you or anything, but given my recent experience with docs, I would say press them on that rash... Is most likely nothing, but it would be good to be sure. I think when docs have sen to many women they sometimes just assume things without actually checking. I would ask them how do they know for sure is not due to pre-eclampsia.

Thanks for all your sympathies on the C front. I was telling my DH how sad I was that I couldn't enjoy easter goods, and that was not fair to have to watch what I am eating when pregnancy is the time to eat without guilt! He told me that it is allright if I get fat afterwards.... isn't he sweet?

welshmum · 21/03/2005 11:34

Fingers crossed for you Cooperoo - may your gas and air be forthcoming (the sort you need for labour obviously )

OP posts:
Lua · 21/03/2005 11:34

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Coop!

tribpot · 21/03/2005 11:42

Fingers crossed, Coop. I can imagine the prospect of no access to decent drugs has been a big worry for you, let's hope the rumours are true! If not, perhaps every one of us who delivers before you can steal some of the hard stuff at the hospital and post it out to you (Home-made epidurals, what could possibly go wrong?!)

Cooperoo · 21/03/2005 11:47

I forgot to add that I have been worrying about the whole dynamic of a new baby upsetting my relationship with dd too. She is going through quite a clingy phase at the moment too. I know what you mean about just loving them so much you could burst. It is quite overwhelming. I do worry I will have to give up the one to one time I have with her. I know it will be OK and she won't even remember a time pre baby after a while but it does seem sad. Really I should be more concerned about the new baby getting the sort of quality time that dd has had for breastfeeding etc which is obviously not going to be possible. All these things make me want to just have the baby and get on with things as we all know it won't be as bad when the babies are here as we will just be getting on with things which is always better than the worrying IME.

Bit repetitive there sorry. Thanks for good luck messages too. I may just call the ward now and see what they say........or can I wait till Thurs....

Cooperoo · 21/03/2005 11:50

Oooh yes only wish for the entonox type of gas please

Cooperoo · 21/03/2005 11:56

Well I just rang the ward and sadly the rumours are just that, rumours. They were able to confirm that they are def looking at it but that all the midwives will have to register in the republic of Cyprus and so that has to be looked at too. They hope to have some news for us in the next two weeks but she did say if it is going to happen it will be in place by June!!! Fingers crossed till then.
