lauralou - as others have said you will probably start to feel movement in the next few weeks - but it wont be all the time and so you'll still worry - i think its just par for the course unfortunately. Being pernickity now but are you not 16 weeks pg - cause you are a week behind me and I'll be 17 weeks tomorrow. Not that it matters really - but it does feel like ages till our scans when others on here have had theirs already - it will come though.

babybolat - are you fairly new to mn? If so, I'd advise you to steer clear of stating your opinion on either bf/ff threads, or anything to do with weaning if you have anything other than the thickest skin. As shown on the poppy thread - seemingly harmless threads can turn really nasty with one or two small comments if someone with a particular gripe joins in. But most other threads I've been on have been the opposite - good to hear other peoples perspectives while people respect that others have a different opinion.

Bubbaluv · 13/11/2008 11:36

Bronze, Could you get a doula to help you with the hospital birth?

Bubbaluv · 13/11/2008 11:37

Lauralou1, Lots of people don't feel anything until much later on than you are now. One of my friends was 22 weeks before she felt anything and her baby was HUGE!

purplemonkeydishwasher · 13/11/2008 12:01

hi all
haven't posted much but i've been checking in periodically. welcome to the new mums-to-be!

been feeling better the last couple of weeks but yesterday started a headache in the afternon that i just can't shake.
i've been sick again, but i think it's just because of my head.
have midwife appt this afternoon (thank god) so i can check taht everything is ok.
i'm 16 weeks but don't want an AFP test. but i want them to check my iron levels. i'm ridiculously tired lately. i just hope they don't give me a hard time.
haven't felt much movement so very glad that i'll be able to hear the little one's heartbeat.

speaking of dreams! had a dream the other night that i had a boy and he was 9lb 11!!!!
(didn't tear though so that was nice!)

BoffinMum · 13/11/2008 12:05

Morning folks. Off to Chiro at lunchtime aain, and emergency ante-natal at the clinic for decrepit mothers with known health problems at the hospital. Hoping to get some free crutches as there seems to be nowhere around here that sells the things.

BabyBolat, too right it's tense in that thread. I think they're spending too much time with small children and MN is the only adult conversation they are getting, so they've forgotten how to behave in polite society.

My DH husband used to accuse me of exactly this crime when I was a teacher!! "I am not one of your pupils" he used to protest!! "Speak to me properly!".

He had a point. But he should have put his socks away when I told him to the first time!

PuzzleRocks · 13/11/2008 12:06

Lauralou, i'm 17 weeks.

electra · 13/11/2008 12:10

Don't worry Lauralou - have you asked the midwife to listen with a sonic aid? I'm 17 weeks and the midwife checked the heart beat this week with that.

I have a friend who 'knows' things about me, and he says this baby will definitely be a boy and will weigh over 9 pounds - eeeek! I don't mind what sex but I hope he's wrong about the 9 pounds bit! My two girls were both over 8 pounds though so I'm rather worried. I'm quite small and not tall either so can't understand why this happens. And once born they both dropped quickly onto the 12th centile

glaskhamhasoneintheoven · 13/11/2008 12:17

wow- i've not posted on here since i was about 6wks gone i think!!

I'm now 17+6, due date changed to the 17th april, so will find a list and update myself.

Have been in hospital twice for re-hydration, have hyperemesis, still feeling sick on a daily basis, bump is about 3inches further out than my boobs (and i have E cup breasts!!) and i'm blossoming!!!

On cyclazine for the sickness which is helping me not be sick any more. Was woken last night by movements, wasn't best pleased- was hoping it would be weeks and weeks before i was having sleepless nights!!

mathsmummy

Oh my god what lovely news! A little girl...aww bless....I can't wait for the 24th....roll on roll on days!

I want a girllll tooooo!!!!!!
[grin}

lauralou

HELLLLOOOOOO!!!! There you are!
Wow 15 weeks...excellent my dear. Don't worry about not feeling preggers - you are lucky then! I still have a gurgly gut even now at almost week 19!

I know what you mean about the scans....I am getting really desperate now to see bubs again to hopefully find out if I am getting a little girl ( and get to go shopping for lots of pink stuff!!! or whether I will be starting a little boy's club.

I think my DS would be over the moon with a little brother but i think it would bring a good balance to the household for there to be a girl too...

ohhhhh can't wait!!!!

BabyBolat · 13/11/2008 12:42

Conkertree yes it is my first very visit to MN - didn't even know it existed before I got pregnant - now I don't know how I would have coped without it!

Re hospital stays I was hoping I wouldn't have to stay in at all - (in the sense that I can go in, have the baby, rest a little and then come home) - am I living in a dream world as I really really don't want to spend my first night with the baby in a hospital (unless I need to for medical reason!)

LuLuBai · 13/11/2008 12:46

BabyBolat it will depend on your hospital but I tried to discharge myself on the first day and wasn't able to as they need to do quite a lot of checks on the baby (hearing etc) before discharging you and even though I gave birth at 9:25am I had missed the doc doing the rounds that day so had to wait until the following morning.

As it was my first baby they also said they wanted to check that I could feed and change the baby before leaving but in actual fact nobody came to help me out and I ended up latching DD on and changing her first nappy without anyone monitoring my fumbling attempts so they just had to take my word for it.

BabyBolat · 13/11/2008 12:50

I might have a chat with them at my next appointment in January and see what they say as I think that will have a big impact on what I decide to do for the birth, hmmm... just can't imagine being there without DH.

LuLuBai · 13/11/2008 12:54

Is anyone else experiencing extreme mood swings?

Yesterday morning I felt like I was in the depths of despair, wanted to cry about everything and really had to battle with myself to get us both washed, dressed and out of the door but by evening I was in a state of near extacy when making root vegetable mash for DD's supper.

I'm normally pretty level headed so I find this mood rollercoaster quite disconcerting. I don't remember having anything this extreme with DD. Just caught myself feeling weepy over the imperfect state of a tangerine and yet the other night when the car broke down in a supermarket carpark and peas were thawing and it was an hour past DDs supper time I didn't give two hoots.

LuLuBai · 13/11/2008 12:56

In some ways it is quite reassurng to be in hospital as you feel there are people around to help if something goes wrong (they had to boot my mother out after 10 days - she didn't want to go home at all!)

At the same time I was terrified of going to the loo and leaving my baby 'unguarded' as, in my sleep deprived state, I was convinced baby-thiefs were prowling the coridoors.

BabyBolat · 13/11/2008 12:57

LuLuBai I was until about three weeks ago (since then DH has said he has never had such a horrific time!!) where I would go from rage to tears in mere seconds but have no control over it whatsoever! (I cried for almost 2 hours when I dropped DH's sandwich on the floor - even though it was still perfectly edible!)

conkertree · 13/11/2008 13:00

babybolat - thats definitely one thing I found hard about staying in, was not having dh nearby to help, but one thing I did like was the bed was soooo comfy - had no trouble getting to sleep on the odd occasion that none of the four babies in the room were crying although even if the other three did, you could open an eye - think - thank goodness its not mine- and go back to sleep.

LuLuBai · 13/11/2008 13:01

Oh good - glad it's not just me. I feel a bit loopy and am trying to keep reminding myself it is just hormonal.

I think I had better warn DH about the mood swings. He's working away a lot at the mo so not in direct proximity but he's home tonight I and don't want to scare him with some insane rant / weeping fit.

Anyway better stop MNing for a bit. DD is asleep and I really must sweep and mop the floor before she wakes. I'm sure a clean house will enhance my mood!

conkertree · 13/11/2008 13:03

yup lulubai - i've had the mood swings too - and i even know they are happening so if i am cross with dh i feel like saying - but dont get cross back - its just a mood swing - but then he would probably find that strange.

sat on the sofa on tuesday night crying for about 20 minutes and then felt great - started thinking about my wee business again that I started when off on mat leave with ds, so will look forward to having some time to do it this time round (naively thinking i will ever have 10 minutes to myself once this lo comes along)

B52s · 13/11/2008 13:10

Afternoon ladies
AuldAlliance that's fabulous news. Had my amnio this morning - very quick, less painful than a blood test and am feeling more positive than yesterday. Thanks to all for the positive vibes. I get my result back on Tuesday and am taking it easy till then. Still have a niggling feeling that something's not right, but am trying to ignore. DH has been very supportive and is working from home tomorrow to help look after me and DS. Please keep you fingers crossed for me... I also hope this won't affect chances of a home birth (if I get that far - grrr - mustn't think like that). Ho-hum.

BabyBolat · 13/11/2008 13:23

Ah B52 glad it went well and that you are feeling better. It's going to be impossible not to think about it but try and relax and enjoy the next few days with DH & DS, sure you will be fine!

If it is any consolation I think many of us have had times when we were convinced there was something wrong and that always turned out ok. I know you have more reason to be worried but guess I am trying to say it is natural to feel that way.

Am keeping everything crossed for you!

AuldAlliance · 13/11/2008 13:32

Glad it went OK, B52. Do try and rest and take things easy; I know it's hard with a DS around, but you do need to try.

This thread moves so fast! Someone asked if a second boy was what we wanted; I don't mind as long as I have a healthy, happy bundle, but DH is a bit disappointed as he'd been hoping for a little girl.

We now have a real problem, as we can't find a good boy's name. For DS, we managed to find a Scottish name that can be pronounced in French, and that goes with DH's surname (which begins with a "U"). We haven't come up with a second Franco-Scottish one. There's time yet...

DungunGirl · 13/11/2008 13:35

Just following on the thread by Lulubai and Babybolat.

babybolat

I had DS at 4.42am and was hoping I would be allowed to lea ve the same day but was held overnight.

I must say though that I was quite comforted to be at the hospital with the midwives available almost 24/7.

DS would not latch on properly and I was having REAL trouble with Breast feeding. Having the hospital staff there to help me keep trying ( if not quite roughly at times! ) at all times of night was quite comforting for me.

Also, they checked his first nappy ( nasty ) and I was discharged the next day anyway knowing that baby had bee given the all clear and so was I.

To tell you the truth, personally, the fact DH wasn't there wasn't a huge deal for me as I spent that first day of my child's life just watching him sleep and resting myself as well. It was nice baby and me time....

BabyBolat · 13/11/2008 13:37

We are having the same problem - DH is originally from Turkey and wants a Turkish name which is fine as long as it is still fairly relevant to the UK - have found a beautiful girls name but boys names are just not working for us at the moment! hmmmm...

AuldAlliance - maybe third time lucky for DH.....

Bubbaluv · 13/11/2008 13:53
