Evening all, the thing about weird interior sensations sounds familiar. The best way I could describe it was something bashing against my cervix, a bit like (TMI) sex when we got the angles a bit wrong. I'm definitely feeling a lot more heavy down low, so maybe the baby's starting to get settled in. But then again it still does a heck of a lot of moving about at the top end under my ribs as well - just when I think it's decided which way to face, it shimmies round to the other side.

jumpjockey · 20/10/2008 21:53

Forgot to mention, if there's a chance you might be induced it's definitely worth checking about if any women in your family have had unusually fast labours. A good friend knew that her mum delivered very quickly, but they induced her with the pessary and expected it to take a while to take effect as they didn't consider her mum';s history to be important. Her womb went into overdrive and she had a very very quick second stage without any pain relief available which could have been avoided.

lowrib · 21/10/2008 00:27

Thanks for the advice on buggies - Veggiemummy I really like your idea of testing in John Lewis then ordering online.

kayzisexpecting I've sent you a CAT message about your buggy. 1st time I've used the CAT thing, I hope it worked?! Let us know if you don't get it.

rosmerta · 21/10/2008 07:53

lowrib I second veggies advice to test them out. If you have a good independent shop near you as well, they sometimes stock pushchairs that the bigger shops don't. Fwiw, my tip is to avoid Mothercare for buggies at all costs. Ime, they don't really know what they're talking about and just want to sell you the most expensive pushchair they can. Hence why we've bought another one this time around!

Junior also seems to be bouncing on my cervix & is very low. Have a mw appt tomorrow so will probably find out where he/she is. Only 6 weeks to go!!

kayzisexpecting · 21/10/2008 07:59

Morning!

Lowrib I did get it and I've sent you an e-mail back.

I'm meant to have quick labours as I was in established labour for 4 hours. Apparently they only count it as labour from when you are 5cm dilated. So I'm a little worried as quicker labours are said to be more painful.

Olipop · 21/10/2008 08:02

morning and welcome to the new ladies! Welcome back lal...glad you've got your head out of the bog!

On the buggy front, DS is quite tall so it is a bit cosy in the front of the P&T but I am making the assumption that a) he will only be in there when tired out so wont complain! and b) minipop will be longish too so probably wont be in the lay down bit for ages....we'll see!!!

On a very me note...I am so proud so have to brag.....I took DS to an animal rescue place yesterday full of fish, terrapins, snakes etc (in Syon Park if you are interested and ever able to get there...it is fantastic). They do a touchy feely bit at the end where you can stroke various animals and I HELD A TARRANTULA!!!!!! For a split second admittedly but I actually did it! The offered it to DS and my first impression was 'he's not touching THAT' and then this brave mummy thing came over me and I asked them if they would help me to overcome my major arachnaphobia!!! I am just so goddamn proud of myself!!!!!

kayzisexpecting · 21/10/2008 08:07

Well done Oli I never would have done that!! There was a huge spider above the front door of the new house yesterday and I really struggled to lock the door!

Olipop · 21/10/2008 08:16

I know - I am the same!! I was with my Mum and Dad and they were stunned! I used to scream at money spiders!!!!!

rosmerta · 21/10/2008 08:18

oli well done, that's really brave of you!. That place will only be open for another year

Olipop · 21/10/2008 08:21

oh noooooo why is that! I love it there?

rosmerta · 21/10/2008 08:22

Same reason as the Butterfly House closed, leases are coming to an end & I think they want to build a hotel

Olipop · 21/10/2008 08:24

oh that is crap. It's such a good place on a rainy day and the staff are all so lovely.

traceface · 21/10/2008 08:24

I'm so impressed with the spider thing! I can manage a smallish one with a glass and some paper but beyond that I panic! I had to do a quick rescue recently with my bare hands and felt very proud afterwards! My big problem is wasps - I have to try sooooooooooo hard to not scream and run away when they come near me - I'm trying to not let my fear rub off on to my daughter but it's a challenge!
Thanks for all the welcomes everyone!

pixsix · 21/10/2008 08:31

Morning All

Oli I'm very impressed at your spider bravery.

I'm sooooo tired today. My sleeping is getting worse and worse at the moment. Managed to sleep for a grand total of 3.5 hours last night between 2am and 5.30am. Oh well, today and tomorrow are my last days of work so will start napping whenever I can after that.

Hope everyone has good days.

traceface · 21/10/2008 08:36

Pixsix - I know how you feel with the sleep thing. it takes me ages to get comfy coz I normally sleep on my front, then when I finally drop off, I wake up every hour or 2 for a wee! then my 4 year old wakes up in between for a wee! I feel like I will never have a full night's sleep again!

Beans33 · 21/10/2008 09:13

Wow OLI - I'm not that scared of spiders, but you still wouldn't catch me touching a tarantula! Well done you!

Poor sleepy people. I seem to be sleeping ok - obviously I wake up every time I have to move, but then I do tend to go back to sleep again. DH comes to bed later than me and I never hear him. He's worried now that I won't wake up when the baby cries! Luckily he's quite a light sleeper, so he can always give me a boot to wake up!

LT you were asking when the lunchtime meet up was - it's 19th around Clapham Junction. Hope that suits? I ought to set up a link to it or something, but I don't really know how! Useless woman. I'll give it a go now and post it if I'm successful!!! x

Beans33 · 21/10/2008 09:17

I did it! here it is!

EffiePerine · 21/10/2008 09:31

Oli: most impressed on the spider. I don't mond small ones but larger ones that scuttle and jump are to be avoided IMO.

LadyT: sounds like you are gettig on with the driving, depsite the baby's antics . You've inspired me to look seriously into driving lessons next year: I should really stop making excuses and actually try it.

Kayz: I had a pretty quick labour as well, 3 hours from 5 cm dilated (arrival at hospital) to DS being delivered. Re: the pain, it's all a bit of a blur but I got through it on TENS alone without swearing or hitting anyone, so maybe not too bad? I'll let you know after this one .

Oh and re time for inductions: as I said my sister was induced with her first and had an epidural: she really disliked not being able to move, but still pushed the baby out in 3 hours. So doesn't nec mean you'll be in labour for ages. Wr tend to fast labours in the family tho: second stage for her second was 40 mins (she just managed to avoid an induction that time).

emmanbump · 21/10/2008 09:36

Oli OMG i'm pertrified of spiders. I am totally impressed. Well done you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (now is checking the corners of the room for sneaky spiders hiding, shudder)

kmp1 · 21/10/2008 10:30

Hi Ladies,
wow it's been a lot of pages since I've posted - so yet again I haven't been able to properley catch up. I've been having drama with the family plans to come over to the UK in December, and didn't want to risk any more me posts which is all they seem to have been since the 3rd trimester! Anyway, I'm sure it'll all work out but at this point in time, I'm not sure if any of them are coming - oh well... Glad I found the new thread - i'm way behind though! Hello to all the new ladies on here - where are you from / living etc? Did anyone make a meet up yet?
I briefly read about car seats and buggies - We wanted a 3 wheeler so got the Out-n-about buggy - it's fantastic very very light and has good suspension according to DH! Got it £50 cheaper online than on the high street. I've started to research carseats and it's looking like the maxi-cosi cabriofix might be the way forward.... It's confusing all the diffeent types out there.
Hope you are all well.....

penny99 · 21/10/2008 11:08

I understand your issues about people coming to visit! I am from Australia and there has been lots of 'debate' over when each set of parents are going to come over. DH parents did not want to come until next Summer when its a bit warmer....until they heard my parents are coming in January and they were suddenly saying, oh, well it might be hard for us to come in January if you already have people staying.(!!!)

In the end, the new parents are the 'bosses' and have to be kept happy!

I must say to all the mums posting who already have one or more children - you are all amazing! I can't even imagine what it would be like to be thinking so many pregnancy thoughts with another little one to look after.

John Lewis do a special service where you can 'book' in a two hour slot and they will talk you through whatever products you are interested in (e.g car seats, buggy). They were very helpful and not pushy to puy anything and even gave us vouchers to have coffee and cake afterwards!

rosmerta · 21/10/2008 11:41

penny I wish I'd known that about JL before buying mine! WOuld've loved vouchers for coffee & cake!

Just had the fright of my life - have seen some mouse droppings in one of the cupboards so was clearing it out and said mouse was in a packet of rice - ALIVE . Needless to say, I squealed like the girl I am and ran . Don't want to go back in there now but have to...

Beans33 · 21/10/2008 11:48

rosmerta - that is hilarious - I am laughing outloud at work! oops! Poor mouse was probably as scared as you!!!!

rosmerta · 21/10/2008 12:07

beans glad I can make you laugh . The mouse seemed pretty cool actually, just looked at me before I threw the packet! I have been brave though, gone back in & cleared up. God knows where its gone now!

Indith · 21/10/2008 12:11

Now spiders I can manage but a mouse in the cupboard When ds was tiny I opened the cupboard and noticed a huge chunk had been taken out of some bread. Closed the cupboard, told dh that we must have mice and 2 seconds later a huge rat came out of the cupboard and scuttled across the flat. I squealed like a girl and leapt on a chair Thankfully rats are the sort of thing the council sorts out for free, very grateful since it turned out that they came from the student house next door, bloody students had been hearing them for ages and not done anything about it

Don't envy those with parental visiting issues, tis bad enough with our lot who are all close enough for day visits!
