Beans glad your MIL is improving. Your midwife sounds rubbish. I've not used a birth plan before myself but when I arrived in labour with DS the staff asked if I had one/had any specific requests.

Kayz I am not feeling great today either. Had a Richard Madeley moment today-got some books in Borders and wandered out without paying. Wasn't until I was about to go in another shop I realised they were all still in my buggy. I scuttled back in feeling very silly. Thank god the alarms didn't go off!

We are going to see Hot Chip tomorrow night-hope I can stay awake.

WG I have a very simple but glam black empire line dress from next that I bought off Ebay for my Dad's swearing in ceremony that I'd be happy to lend to you if it's any use, size 12/14 but maternity so obviously more accomodating. It has a bright pink ribbon sash, but you could always accessorize it with a scarf or something. It's strapless, but has detachable straps if you know what I mean. It looks a bit like this www.nicolematernitywholesale.com/items/maternity-dresses/black-audrey-formal-maternity-gown-cr54ac-b -detail.htm
Let me know if you want me to send it to you.

TheInvisibleHand · 04/11/2008 19:45

veggie - thanks for reminding me about Giacobazzi's! We did find it last time round and you are right, its absolutely yummy. In fact, I read recently that the owners have also opened a restuarant around the corner, which I am very tempted to try - will try and persuade DH we need a night in Belsize Park before we are in baby purdah again!

Didn't try the pelvic exerciser, but if there was some way of not just relying on my dodgy ability to do pelvic floor exercises, that would be v good...

OK, time to go home. Its not been the best, but tomorrow is another day!

Veggiemummy · 04/11/2008 20:01

time to go home! Invisible were you still at work. A restaurant by the owner of Giacobazzi's i'm gonna have to pop in to my old work once this baby comes and have lunch there with the girls.

our lovely tennents in our london house are moving out kind of suddenly and we have to find some news ones by the 1st december, this couldn't come at a more difficult time. We are going to enlist the girls living there now to show people around but at some stage will have to go down and meet some prospective tennents all a bit of a pain as DH is woring in newcastle end of this week and the next and then has policy work at home so no trips to london planned soon, so will have to do a quick trip down there at some stage bit of a pain, as all so close to due date. Oh well hopefully we will find some good tennents again. if anyone knows anyone looking for a 3 bed groundfloor maisonette next to canary wharf let me know.

Beans: yes, the address you have is correct

LadyT: second the recommendation of Neal's yard, which is too close to my office for my bank balance and waistline. Unpasteurised hard cheese is supposed to be fine, it's just the soft and blue stuff (my favourite) which is bad. Love Lincolnshire Poacher, they also do a hard cheese from Ireland which is a bit like a mature Gouda and begins with C... brain gone...

Indith · 04/11/2008 21:01

God I'm a terrible lurker at the moment, nopt doing a good job of keeping up!

I'll be going to bravissimo for nursing bras, the maternity ones I have at the moment are ace. The nursing ones I got from M&S last time around are really not...and though the ones I ordered off figleaves later on were better I used the M&S size...fool that I was. M&S gave me a 36 back....36! In what world is a skinny size 8 woman a 36?! Even the maternity ones I have now are a 32!. I hate M&S can you tell? I do want some nice bras though, I've been on the hotmilk website and noted down some places that stock them in Leeds for when we go visit MIL later this month on the basis that stockists are probably really good independent places.

Shopping centres terrify me. Vast corridors of artificial life and shops selling a load of tat as far as the eye can see I've been to the Metro Centre once and have no desire to go again.

Kays were you saying you may go to Meadowhall for baby stuff shopping? Is the Metro Centre not closer?

Swap dh Veggie? Or get them to swap jobs anyway, mine keeps on working down south, tis rare to find him in either the Gateshead or Newcastle offices these days.

I got given wonderful inspiration today and have bought my secret stork gift

waitinggirl · 04/11/2008 21:02

bless you all for offering your finest clothes for the ceremony - you are all so generous!

katie - that is some dress - wow! alas, i fear size 12/14 is a bit way off for me now (generally a 14/16 pre preggers, and sometimes more, depending on the cut), but you never know. i am tempted, i must say. let me have a look around on the internet and some shops and i might get back to you.

aren't you guys great?

reban · 04/11/2008 21:04

effie did you suggest we all keep in contact by email on the last thread? I cant quite remember now .. what shall i do send you an email from my personal email address?

LT that is funny about Karen Brady, amazingly my mom went through life until about 10 years ago thinking her name was Mary Margaret, then for some reason got her birth certificate out and found out her name is actually margaret mary! (why this hadnt been spotted when she got married or previous passports we haev no idea!) Turns out she and my nan were very ill after she was born so my grandad went and registered her naming her after his mom and his wife. My nan then arranged her christening (still in hospital) and named her the other way round! Grandad was apparently a very quiet man and musnt have been able to tell his wife what he had done!!

kayzisexpecting · 04/11/2008 21:05

Indith I might do. I really wanted to go Xmas shopping there but it's not possible. I would love to go to the metro centre. Must learn to drive.

I love the hotmilk underwear. I am going to treat myself I think.

kmp1 · 04/11/2008 21:18

Veggie I feel your pain - our tenant was going to move out as we were needing to up the rent, as we have had to spend so much money on the place to keep her happy, however we decided to keep her with the same rent and she is now signing for 12 mths. (Better the devil we know really) Awful time to have to worry about it all. I will ask around and keep my ears open for you. How much is the rent and what's the condition etc?

Veggiemummy · 04/11/2008 21:24

Indith- how long does it take your DH to get down there, was a bit shocked when i found it would take DH over 3 hours to get to Newcastle from Derby by train, it only takes 1hr 40 to london. we have just been talking about the cut off date that DH will give to his work that is the date that he can't work away from (or far away from home). I'm due the 15th which is a monday so i said the thursday or even friday before. DS was only a day early and i actually think i'm due on the 21st so think that is ok. although i did mention that as i would be very large it would be nice if he wasn't too far away in the weeks before as i won't be much fun for DS.

kayzisexpecting · 04/11/2008 21:28

A 'friend' of mine has got me worrying about DS being jealous and she thinks people will ignore him once the baby is here. I feel really guilty now.

Veggiemummy · 04/11/2008 21:32

thanks KMP it's £350 a week and is in pretty good condition but nothing luxurious, it has a great backyard a nice big kitchen and utility room. But the bathroom is small. It is fully Furnished.

We have really lovely neighbours down there who got on really well with the current tennents, we really want to make sure we find someone they will be ok with because we know what a nightmare it can be to have bad neighbours, so here's hoping we find someone.

Lol at all the name mess ups on birth certificates. that is DH's job i better make sure he is completely happy with the name so he doesn't try to sneak in another one.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 04/11/2008 21:34

oh 'kayz' that is a horrible thought, i hate the idea of DS being ignored. any thoughts from those with more than 1.

OP posts:
kayzisexpecting · 04/11/2008 21:36

I did start a thread in Larger Families. Most people say its very stupid as most visitors coo over the baby for a bit then play with the older sibling as they are more interactive.

I'm not too worried about him being jealous because he loves other children and always shouts "Baby" if one comes on the tv.

katie3677 · 04/11/2008 21:43

Bugger, looks like DS has chicken pox. Does anyone know what the danger is to unborns? I have had CP, but all the websites say that pregnant women should inform GP if they've been anywhere near someone with it, which is making me nervous. I can't exactly quarantine myself from him.

Veggiemummy · 04/11/2008 21:44

i have to say DS makes it a personal mission to make sure people don't ignore him. He monopolised the midwifes time today and when he wasn't succeeding in drawing her attention away from me, he pulled out the big guns, he gave her one of his paintings, that always works.

OP posts:
kayzisexpecting · 04/11/2008 21:47

DS is exactly the same Veggie, he hates to be ignored and will stop at nothing to be noticed.

Katie, I'm not really sure. I know that you are meant to be safe if you have had it yourself. I'd go see GP if I was you.

Veggiemummy · 04/11/2008 21:59

Katie your fine if you have had Chicken pox before, i'm not sure why they say to go see your GP you could give him a call if you want but as far as i know it is fine as long as you have definitely had them before.

Kimberly1979 · 04/11/2008 23:43

Hey everyone! We've gone through this thread fast! It's going to be time for a new one!

Kayz - I had ketones in my urine as well and the midwife told me to eat and drink more. I also hadn't eaten much before I went in and that may have had something to do with it. The next time I went in for a visit everything was fine.

Sorry for everyone who's been feeling a bit under the weather. Hope you start to feel better soon.

lal07 · 05/11/2008 00:40

Effie think it's coolea you're thinking of (probably too much cheese chat from me).

Katie my cousin's kids had chicken pox just before his latest baby was born and it was all ok. Am sure it's just one of those safe side things where they want to know.

Am also worried about impact on DS. He's such a happy little soul and I'm worried we're going to turn his world upside down. Don't think he really understands what's going to happen, although this morning he did go to the front door and say he was going out to get the baby from hospital to play with.

Am slightly flagging with my staying up and watching the elections - especially as we decided it would be perfect to combine it with re-painting the dining room. Idiots...

pixsix · 05/11/2008 00:53

lal can't believe you're painting your dining room at this time! Very impressed. Am also watching the election and waiting to hear news of my sister who was going in to be induced at 2pm. I could be an auntie any time! So much excitement in one night!

chutneymary · 05/11/2008 04:18

Evening all

Sorry I haven't been on - last couple of days have not been great. Still really niggly and tired but no baby as yet. Was so crap last night that my poor neighbour had to make the girls' supper as I was too jiggered to do it. DH home in 3 days, thank god, so the baby can safely arrive, if indeed that it was the niggling is all about. However, no one in my family has EVER gone into labour so I'd be very surprised. We all like to be induced or have C sections

Talking of CS, someone asked the other day if you have to be NBM for a planned section. The answer is yes from 12 o'clock the night before. Usually you are prescribed metaclopramide (to stop you being sick) and ranitidine (to reduce the acidity in your stomach) for the day before to reduce the chances of you puking on the table and to stop your stomach contents being too acidic if you do aspirate them (which you won't! Don't worry!) You can go out for a nice dinner and then starve yourself so all is not lost. The only bad thing is that you are NBM until post section so if you have to wait until later on in the day for a slot you will be hungry! To any ladies having a planned section, it is absolutely fine and on the day the adrenaline gets you through. Thinking about it in advance is by far the worst bit.

Katie - if you have had chicken pox you can't catch it again. Chicken pox is dangerous to newborns but if your DS has it now chances are that he will not be infectious by the time the baby is here. If you BF you pass immunities to the baby anyway, so it is less likely s/he will catch it. My DD was exposed to it when I was 36 weeks with DD2, but my GP friend (whose daughter was the culprit!) said that the baby would be fine as I had had it and there was plenty of time before the baby arrived for it to come and go. HTH.

Beans, am so glad your MIL sounds better. IT must have been an awful few days for you all. Take care.

I was worried about the impact on DD1 when I had DD2 and a friend suggested that I wrapped up a few small bits for her and kept them near the sofa. When people came with presents for the baby but nothing for her (which was rare - most people were very generous), I could fish out a wee something for her to unwrap. Nothing huge, just a hairslide, sticker card, dolly spoon etc, but it made her feel better. Most people were very sensitve to her and did not overly fuss over the baby when she was there. In fact, the only person who really caused problems was my MIL. Nuff said.

About expressing, leaking etc - Veggie is absolutely right. Nipple tweaking etc can stimulate the uterus and kick things off so don't do it yet! I have used 4 breastpads in my life (not bad considering I have BF for about 2 1/2 years in total) so not everyone leaks. I also was told not to express for 6 weeks to sort out supply and demand. Obviously sometime it can't be avoided (eg if the baby is in NICU) but if all is well, you don't want to send your norks into overdrive and produce too much.

Talking of feeding, I have a microwave steriliser going begging. I don't need it as 1. I don't have a microwave any more and 2. I am a slackarse 3rd time mother who puts things through the dishwasher and leaves it at that! Would anyone like it? Am happy to post it to you if you CAT me (or tell me your email so I can get your address. My email is my name so I can't put it up here) or I could bring it to the london meet up if easier.

Majormoo, I am laughing at your Richard Madely moment. I am always shoving things on the buggy and then only remembering to pay asI am leaving and have stolen things a few times when I got out before it dawned on me. I had quite a weird crush on RM as well in my last pg but that seems to have passed thank God.

Traceface, I am with you on the smells. I love the smell of B and Q and sometimes just walk up and down the aisles pretending to look for paint or whatever, just to get my fix. I also like solvents and sniff whiteboard pens at work like there's no tomorrow. The poor baby will have to go cold turkey once he's here.

Cheese - I cant' wait for some blue and some brie. For the last 2 babies DH has made a welcome home supper of scallops, liver and then a load of cheese to make the end of my abstinence. Effie, I could live in NY dairy - heaven! You quite often see celeb chefs in there too.

WG - Isabella oliver is great for nice maternity stuff and is usually resold on Ebay for pretty much the price paid for it. Let us know what you get.

Hello everyone else, hope you are all well . I seem to have inherited Verso's insomnia. DD1 in my bed now and am just waiting for her to drop off before I put my SATC dvd on the laptop. Thank god I haven't got to go to work tomorrow as I'd never make it. Only a week left for me now. Am definitely in the departure lounge and just sniffing pens without really doing much else . I have been back from ML for less than a year as well, which hasn't gone down well. However, DH said on teh phone last night that he is going to get snipped now so this will definitely be my last. I felt quite sad when he said that, even though 3 children is my top limit anyway. How bonkers am I?!

See you tomorrow.

kayzisexpecting · 05/11/2008 07:17

Morning!!

YAY for the elections!! My staying up lasted until quarter to 12. So I didn't even see 1 vote come in. I'm really annoyed with myself for not being able to stay up.

Chutney I am with you on B&Q or any shop like that. I am loving the smell of freshly cut wood. Its so nice.

After feeling awful all of yesterday, I went to bed dreading being woken up by contractions but no thank god. I was woken up by our next door neighbour going to work.

I hope everyone is ok.

traceface · 05/11/2008 07:34

morning!
kayz - glad you're feeling better today.

I had a stonker of a headache yesterday which paracetamol just wouldn't shift and I've woken up still with it!!! Grrrrr.

Anyway - my fantastic friends threw a baby shower for me last night!!! Just about 10 of us playing silly games, eating naughty nibbles, praying for me, giving me gifts...I had the most lovely time and feel very loved!

chutney - I hadn't thought of going to B+Q for my smells fix - and I live less than 5 mins from a B+Q - guess where I might be popping in..!
