zoejeanne · 30/10/2008 16:06

jj if you were a sad kid, then I'm a sad lady, cause I think it's fab!

kayz did you have your new green P&T's pushchair? I didn't see one of those on the streets of York today (but next time I do I will stop them and ask if it's you!) It is odd to think we could have passed by.

Beans33 · 30/10/2008 16:08

Oooh indith - like the look of that heated dryer. Makes mine look rubbish! Oh well.

We really need to get our nursery sorted. It's getting there, but still got decoration to do and want to make the sheets up on the cot and stuff. Just make it more homely.

I wore my new pjs last night - so cosy and warm. Almost a bit sweaty.... Oops! But they didn't help me sleep at all, which is annoying!

Beans33 · 30/10/2008 16:11

PS Wish my bump would drop. I constantly feel like I've got a stitch with nipper sitting up under my ribs and pushing them out. Plus sitting at my desk is really uncomfy with tummy pushing upwards against my boobs. Sob.

I wonder if my boobs will ever not look long again!

traceface · 30/10/2008 16:11

kay - I feel so sorry for you and outraged on your behalf!!! I'm glad you spoke up though - I would seethe inwardly and cry in private, wishing I'd been bolder - good on you! I apologize on behalf of York! Hope you have a restful evening with much chocolate eating and self-indulgence!

Beans33 · 30/10/2008 16:12

Oh kayzie - just read your post. People are such bastards, aren't they? Honestly - I thought it was only London where people are entirely selfish. I'm so sorry for you.

Are you alright?

x

traceface · 30/10/2008 16:14

Oooh I'm all excited - I only just realsied you can create a profile! - I just had a look at lots of yours and have made one of my own! I don't have any pictures of me pregnant though so will have to get the ol' camera out and rectify that!

Indith · 30/10/2008 16:17

Oh that is true rosmerta, I'd not thought of that as we didn't get anything new for ds until after he was born! We borrowed and charity shopped.

emmanbump · 30/10/2008 17:11

Hi All,

Sorry for not posting. Had the day off yesterday was nice to relax and have been super busy at work today. Grrrr. Will try to catch up on the posts properly.

Congrats Indith and Reban.

Hello everyone else. Hope you have nice eve's.

jumpjockey · 30/10/2008 17:41

rosmerta - good point! - in that case we'll wash the NCT stuff (about 80%!) and keep the posh stuff unwashed until we know how big SP is going to come out...

Glad to hear bump dropping doesn't mean labour is about to happen! I read somewhere that they engage sooner the first time because you still have some tummy muscles, whereas second ones just kind of dangle around freely and aren't being pushed downwards. Beans Re boobs, the thing that made me notice the bump had moved was that my chest no longer rested on the bump quite as much!!

Turniphead1 · 30/10/2008 18:24

Hi all. Congrats Indith on the job. That's fab.

Kayz am so disgusted on your behalf. So distressing for you.

arti I know how you feel I am HUGE and my skin feels like it might split. Last DC was just under 10lb and I look 42 weeks pg instead of 32. Hope you get a rest soon!

Reban am aghast at your interview notes. Durr! Just shows you how daft people can be... but glad it ended well.

Traceface - like the profile . Your DD is a poppet! My DD (just turned five) has that dress too!

Zoe I love the Sheila's Maids (ceiling mounted dryers with pulleys). I often advise clients to put them in their utility rooms as they are so handy. You can get details of suppliers in the classifieds section of Homes and Garden.

Just had the most wonderful news. My best friend's IVF has worked! Still incredibly early but I am SOOOO happy for her.

majormoo · 30/10/2008 19:04

Kayz those people were so rude and well done for saying something.

Indith well done on the job.

I have the opposite problem to looking huge-people keep telling me I have a tiny bump for 34 weeks, which is making me a bit anxious. It shouldn't as I had the same thing when I was pregnant with DD, but still.... Midwife tomorrow which is a relief as have not seen her since 28 weeks.

waitinggirl · 30/10/2008 19:54

hello all - have been offline, but avidly following conversations for a while. can't catch up with everyone, but

kay - grrrrrr
indith - congrats
reban - grrrrrr

my thoughts entirely on the old tumble dryer front - there is no space inside, but we could put electricity into an outdoor shed and put one in there, but but but... ecologically unfriendly, but produces amazingly fluffy soft clothes...

those sheila's maids things are WONDERFUL if you have space for them - we had one in old flat (3 floor maisonette with massive stairwell) and it was great. i may well accidentally order one online and then pay a thumping lot of money for someone to install it for us (DIY morons, both of us)

re: engagement, well, i've been engaged since 30 weeks (2 weeks ago), so i'm hoping it's not a sign of imminent birth - don't think it is at all. means that while the pelvis is a little pressured, the lungs are absolutely fine - hurrah!

returning to laundry - have just used my ecoballs for the first time, which seemed to work, but i do so miss that smell of clean laundry (they are just so eco and wholesome, they don't smell of anything now). isn't is weird how we get conditioned to artificiality?

also... reading dh's book on becoming a dad - did you know that if you leave the placenta at the hospital (presuming you aren't going to cook/eat/bury it), if often gets sold to cosmetics companies??? eugh - gross. i don't know what for, but will check it out. watch this space.

also... tip from someone from preggers yoga who came back to talk through her birth story: afterwards she told her dp that he was so marvellous during labour and the birth, saying all the right things at the right time etc. he said "darling, i was just repeating what the midwife said". she only heard him, not the mw.

also, just heard today that my long-suffering dissertation has earned me a... drumroll... distinction in my MA, so i am pretty chuffed about that. feeling quite smug. means i get to waddle up to my graduation ceremony in december at 38 weeks - hurrah.

apols for the long post

katie3677 · 30/10/2008 20:22

DH safely home, hungover and tired and having drunkenly abused a few celebs, but no arrests or appalling behaviour to report - until I hear otherwise from someone else!
waitinggirl and indith - congrats, you clever girls
Kayz - poor you, but well done for saying something
Had diabetes clinic tonight and they've doubled my doses of insulin, so now injecting 6 times a day, very boring. I have another growth scan in 2 weeks, and will then see the consultant to talk through birth options. I am going to stamp my feet and insist on a c-section, which probably means that I only have 4 weeks left of being pregnant. Better get organised!
Have a nice evening everyone

kayzisexpecting · 31/10/2008 07:03

Morning,

Thanks everyone. I feel better about it this morning.

Zoe No I didn't take the Phil and Teds. I was going to but thought it would be easier to take the buggy. It's a good thing I didn't as I don't know how to fold it up yet.

YAY to Waitinggirl and Indith congratulations.

6 WEEKS TO GO!!!! I'm not remotely organised and the nursey is more of a storeroom. Luckily my friend is coming over today to give me a hand.

Indith · 31/10/2008 08:02

Congratulations WG! That is fantastic!

You get used to the ecoballs and not smelling by the way, so much so that if you use powder to attack a particularly smelly load it smells really strong! You can also put a drop or 2 of a nice oil in the softener bit to fragrence it.

Glad dh is back Katie, foot stamping sounds fun 4 weeks! That is amazingly close.

kayzisexpecting · 31/10/2008 08:16

We use those ecoballs, they are really good. Except MIL moans that we never wash DS's clothes as they don't smell of 'citrus burst' or something like that.

zoejeanne · 31/10/2008 09:15

turnip fab news about your friend, fingers crossed that the rest of the pregnancy is as successful as the start.

majormoo I keep getting told I?m small too, but at my check up last week MW said the baby is normal size. The downside is there?s no space left for my lungs, stomach or bladder, so I do wish I had a bigger bump to make more space for me!

wg congratulations on the distinction, that is just fab. Well done you

Have a good Friday everyone

traceface · 31/10/2008 09:39

hello everyone!

WG - well done you! hope you waddle with pride at your graduation!

re bump sizes - it's so subjective - one person tells me I'm massive, then another says how neat I am!!! Even the MW measurements are a bit hit and miss - at 22 weeks she measured me at 24-28 (aaghh!) but then a different one measured me at 24 weeks to be spot on! I've had several scans because of my past history, and the baby is the right size, so I guess the outer bump is a bit irrelevant!

washing - I'm a tumble dryer girl at this time of year I'm afraid - big black mark against my name in the carbon footprint stakes!!! Love the summer-out-on-the-washing-line thing but it's just too cold now. doh!

I keep wondering what dd2 will look like...dd1 looks like dh, so will this one look like dh or dd1 or me?!!!I'm so impatient!

we're carving our pumpkin out with dd today - any idea how you do it?!! never done it before!

Beans33 · 31/10/2008 09:54

I'm loving today! Feeling really perky and happy.

Did anyone else see that article in the Metro about Mum's who drink during pregnancy? It was great - something positive for once! Saying that one or two units of alcohol a week seems to make babies a bit more intelligent!!!

I haven't actually been drinking, purely because I find I don't like the taste during this pregnancy, but it's enough to make me celebrate with a glass or two of bubbly!!!

kayzisexpecting · 31/10/2008 09:58

I know Beans I fancy some wine now!!!

I have just cleaned the kitchen. I was planning on doing it tomorrow but I just hadto do it. Maybe I'm nesting.

SummerLightning · 31/10/2008 10:09

Morning everyone! Thank goodness it is Friday!

Sorry late to say Kayz but what meanies on that bus!! Miserable barstewards! And I said you should go to town later on as well. Hope you are feeling ok and happy today!

Beans yes, read that article in the Guardian online this morning.

Haha, what is all this research like!! My odd drink shall have made my baby into a genius.
Reminds me of the BF counsellor woman who we had a class with, she asked if I knew whether it made the baby more intelligent, and I said well yes I have heard it does, but I find it hard to believe it makes that much of a difference (big mistake!). So she got out her references and started going on about the proof etc. So I said "Ah, must be why I am so intelligent then, as I was breastfed" . And she thought I was being serious and bragging that I am intelligent!! haha!

Anyway I may have a half pint tonight to celebrate.

And well done to waitinggirl on the dissertation and indith on the new job.

Today is the last day of a full week of work! From now on I am down to 4 days or less a week, still 5 weeks to go though!

Kimberly1979 · 31/10/2008 10:12

Traceface Ooooh! Pumpkin Carving!! Make sure you have lots of old news paper or something to cover your table with. It gets messy!

Figure out what kind of face you want on your pumpkin. We usually draw it on with a permanent marker or a pencil. If you have a drawing on paper you can tape it to the front of the pumpkin and take a pencil or something with a sharp point and poke small holes along the lines of your drawing (kinda like connect the dots).

Cut around the stem first leaving a few inches around the stem. Once you've done that, pull the top off and scrape the seeds and stringy stuff off and set aside. Then take a big spoon and scoop out the insides. You can save the seeds and bake them in the oven with cinnamon and sugar (YUM).

Once you've got the inside cleaned out you can start on the face part. You may need some different sizes of knifes to cut with or one of those pumpkin carving kits are nice as well.

Hope that helps.

Beans33 · 31/10/2008 10:25

Oh well done. I haven't cleaned anything in ages! I'm rubbish. The carpets upstairs need cleaning. Guessing I'll start when maternity leave kicks in!! I hope so.

Strangely, DH was having a (gentle) go at me this morning about packing my hospital bag - he can't believe I haven't done it properly yet. LORD! Didn't realise it was so important already! Better get on the case!

Verso · 31/10/2008 10:52

rosmerta and indith every time I navigate to this page I love the comment at the top about "I love that rack" - it makes me think of Gok Wan, which is very childish of me I know but it makes me chuckle .

FWIW we installed one in our old flat and it was brilliant - but we don't have the ceiling height here, alas .

Not sure what to make of the new alcohol-in-pregnancy, but that's probably just sour grapes (no BAD pun intended) as I am like Beans and just can't stand the taste when I'm pregnant... nice for those of you who enjoy a glass though!

Beans33 · 31/10/2008 12:09

I like the "I love that rack" comment - makes me laugh!
