Dont even go there with the pre baby grooming I look like a yeti from my waist down its a disaster zone. I despretley need a pedi as well.

daisydora · 27/10/2008 20:23

Hello all,

Not posted in a while so hope everyone is doing well, too many for me to read- finish work on Weds & I can't wait!!!! My baby now moves constantly all day long, and I am convinced I'm going to have it any day (35 weeks now). It's still breech and at times I swear I can feel its feet trying to poke through my cervix - it actually makes me wince.

Got appointment next week which should determine if I am to have a section, which is a bit weird that they might actually say your baby will be born on xxx, can't imagine that!

Tried to do a bit of self grooming the other day in the lady garden area, gave up, can't see my toes & was afraid I'd do myself an injury . Have made note to book in next week at salon for a tidy up, also need to have hair cut. So much to do and so little time.....

chutneymary · 27/10/2008 20:24

I always thought with the perfume that they didn't mind YOUR perfume, but got confused if they had lots of different smells so visitors need to hold off. I wore it with both of mine as it made me feel human again (esp when I'd had little sleep) and I expect i'll continue. My lovely DH bought me the bath/ shower gel version of my normal stuff so I used it from their births anyway.

Make up - second the tinted moisturiser. I also had my eyelashes dyed a week before DD2 arrived as I am very fair and don't have lashes or brows without a bit of help . Good for emotional moments too as you can't cry it off. As a somewhat vain cow, I also got DH to take lots of B and W photos shortly ater the birth as I looked a lot less frightening than in glorious technicolour. Worth thinking about as I look so rank in some of the colour ones that I don't really show them to people which is a shame.

Veggie, sorry I don't know about your hospital bag - I would guess at having just an emergency one packed in case you have to go suddenly. Just a few basics which DH can then top up if need be. I am SO glad for you that he is home tomorrow - yay!

JJ, I am very sorry to hear about your friends' son. What a tragedy for them and his poor wife.

Hatty, am keeping fingers crossed for your scan and moving placenta. Personally I would have a glass of red here and there to keep my spirits up - medicinal purposes and all that.

Top tips for the bag, Turnip - I'd add some peppermint tea to help relieve wind (sorry), some snacks in case hospital food is its usual gastronomic self, some cash for the bedside TV thing, flip flops for the shower and some Flash wipes in case hygiene ain't great on your ward.

JB and all emotional ladies - you are not alone. I get very weepy at all sorts of rubbish, happy and sad, and have done really since the blue line in April. Tiredness makes it worse for me, so perhaps a cup of tea, biscuit and a sit down til it passes would help? My most recent crying fit was when I was driving last week - Elton John on the radio and I was off. Daren't put any Country music on as the pain of love and loss would no doubt make me crash

Meet up - I'm not bringing mine as it's a nursery day for the girls, but it's just occurred to me that some of the ladies are coming across london with small children in tow. Public transport with buggies etc isn't fun and there are a lot of stairs at Clap Junction. Would it be easier to meet at Waterloo? There is also a kids' playground near there for mini Jam and mini Effie to burn off a bit of steam. Nearest place with a few swings to Clap J is the commmon which is a real waddle for a pregnant lady. Sorry, I don't want to ambush the meeting but as we are coming from all over london and some people will have kids with us it might be easier. Just a thought.

Turniphead1 · 27/10/2008 20:28

LadyT that is SOOO funny. When I wrote that (about noone doing their makeup post-birth) I thought of writing, "except you, LadyT". Having met you I can assure other readers that LadyT is very glam - but in a lovely way! Nowt wrong with a bit of postbaby slap imho! PS: you might have a bit of snow tonight! (assuming you are at DP's?)

rosmerta - praise the Lord for cbeebies. My DC are only allowed TV when they are in their PJs. SOMETIMES they get ready for bed very early indeed...lol

Veggie would defo have a bag ready just in case. My neighbour who was a secondtimer did get transferred to hospital during her homebirth (nothing serious). Leave it in the hall beside the baby's car seat, just in case. Am quite sure though you won't need to use it though.

Enjoy having your DH back - and well done you getting through it. Your DS sounds like such a poppet! I loved your Pizza Express story. I was getting wistful when DH, the children and I had a lovely sunday lunch at home this weekend, thinking we will only be 4 for a few weeks more.

Veggiemummy · 27/10/2008 20:52

why o why did i not order chocolate from Ocado!!!!! all i have are iced lollies.

have actually just texted DH to tell him to get me some nice choccies whilst stopped off in Dubai.

EffiePerine · 27/10/2008 20:59

getting your hair cut the day you go into labout is great for post-birth photos. I look like hell, but my hair is glorious! No other beauty tips I can think of...

lavender oil for baths, you can mix it with a little milk

the neal's yard arnica bath foam is gorge and smells like GIN

in hotel room thinking about bath and bed - strangely quiet without DS

PD: no way will we be moving before baby is born, whether we rent or buy afterwards depends on whether this place sells in time. Estate agent mildly hopeful. So we;ll be squished into a 1-bed flat as well - we'll have to share tips. Actually I think it could work out well in teh early weeks as a) baby likely to be in bed with us anyway and b) DS won;t feel too pushed out.

katie3677 · 27/10/2008 21:11

Loving the black and white photo idea, it's so true that colour photos are not at all flattering.
If my make up obsession continues, and I get my caesarean, I am going to make damn sure that I look like a model in post-birth photos, unlike last time when I looked more like I had a very bad heroin habit.

zoejeanne · 27/10/2008 21:28

Evening all - just wanted to boast a little that I've written up a baby shopping list this evening, with the number of items I've been given and the number I need to still buy, where I'll get them from - and which of them then need to go into my hospital bag. Feeling very smug for being so organised!

Speak tomorrow xx

Veggiemummy · 27/10/2008 21:42

wow ZJ very organised, now imagine all that nesting effort put into baking, you could make muffins for everyone.

Gosh you lot are all chatty tonight!!!
ladyt I have a friend just like you re the make up! She has a little baby, I never noticed whether she had full slap in post birth photos, which probably means she did as I probably wouldn't recognise her without it!!

Have to say I hadn't really thought about it, as I wear make up rarely anyway.

veggie hurrah for DH coming back! Your DS sounds soo cute, how old is he? I would like one like yours please, where do I put my order in . oh and re homebirth bags, if I have one I will definitely pack a hospital bag, but for me it will be number 1 and I reckon there is a reasonable chance I might end up in hospital anyway. Not sure on second ones, I guess it is best to be on the safe side and pack a small one?

re perfume, the breastfeeding lady told me not to wear perfume at all, and not to use deodorant afterwards to establish bfing!!! To be honest she seemed a little militant about a lots of things, she would probably have you not shower if she could . I don't really wear perfume much anyway so will probably avoid it.

I am lounging around tired tonight, DH has been nesting tidying up baby room, GRRRREAT :-)

HauntedMeadow · 27/10/2008 22:40

Evening,
just popping in to say that i have 17 of you lovely ladies taking part in the Secret Stork so far. If anyone else is wanting to take part then please email me at [email protected].

Will get your stork details out on Saturday to give you maximum time to shop.

Details again are:
£10 budget to buy a gift for either mummy or baby. Parcels to arrive no later than the 1st Dec to try and beat any early arrivals.

Veggiemummy · 27/10/2008 22:56

no deodorant, mmmm not a good idea for me i think, as my natural odour might upset babyveggie too.

DS is 3, he has been such a little legend this last couple of weeks, i don't know if it will last but he has been tidying up after himself, because his dad told him that i can't bend down to pick up his toys. A big treat for him tomorrow, we are going to get to the airport early as Manchester Airport has a viewing platform beside it that has a decommisioned Concorde(i think thats how you would describe it). So he can watch his dads plane land and get up close to a supersonic airplane which he is right into at the moment.

Olipop · 28/10/2008 07:16

Morning ...glad you all seem ok (if a little teary!).
I am starting to panic about not being ready ...babys room is still a junk zone. I'll have to crack on on wed and thurs this week. Had 2 hours awake tossing and turning worrying about dimmer switches .

traceface · 28/10/2008 08:46

good morning!
all this talk of hospital bags has made me think I ought to think about it! Last time I went in unexpectedly at 30 weeks so didn't do the whole bag-packing thing so I'm really excited about getting one ready! I'm going to look through some mags to see what should go in it because I have no idea!
Oli - my baby room was a junk room until last week - a friend and I attacked it and it only really took a few hours to get it sorted. (I needed the friend because I can no longer fit through the mini-hole to get in the loft!).It's not perfect but if baby was to pop out now it would at least have the basics...although if it did pop out now it would be in SCBU so it wouldn't matter anyway! with my first we had nothing ready, thinking we had 10 more weeks, but it all comes together in the end, and your newborn has no idea if it's sleeping in an expensive Moses basket or a cardboard box anyway! Don't worry - I'm sure it will all come together!
I had a constructive day yesterday...have cleaned out the Guinea pigs, booked my car service and MOT, booked my eye test, caught up with my ironing, ordered a Christmas present...I'm liking this maternity leave lark! If only we never had jobs to go to! DD1 was in pre-school hence the ability to get things done - the rest of the week will be spent playing play dough and princesses and talking to DD's imaginary friends!
Hope everyone is well today - Veggie - so pleased for you that life might get back to normal with your family back in one place - have fun at the airport - that sounds ace!!!Think your ds is a lucky boy to have you as his mummy!

Beans33 · 28/10/2008 09:30

Morning All

My work attitude sucks. People keep asking me to do things and I'm very close to telling them to eff off! It's appalling behaviour, but I've got 9 days left and I really don't give a stuff about it at all. I must buck up if I want to come back next year!!!

Veggie - so happy for you that DH is going to be back! And that trip to the airport sounds quite fun - I'm a bit jealous.

I'm absolutely gutted at the moment, because I went to put on my lovely Ugg boots this morning for the coldness and they're too tight to zip up! They're not the usual Uggs, they're called Liberty boots and they were my biggest splash out on a pair of shoes - EVER! I got given £150 of selfridges tokens by my work team last year and then some money from my Mum for Xmas. Put the two together and it almost covered the cost of them and I deeply love them. Last year I wore them over skinny jeans, this year I can't even get them over my swollen ankles. SOB! I love them!

Beans33 · 28/10/2008 09:56

PS I will definitely be wearing deodorant for new bambino. For everyone's sake, including the baby's!!!

traceface · 28/10/2008 09:58

oh beans that's gutting! Just think you'll have them as a special post-baby treat to wear when your legs have gone back to normal!

So I've just spent an hour looking through mags to try to find out what to put in a hospital bag - I found nothing helpful but instead have completely freaked myself out by people's real life birth pictures!!!! aaagghh!

Beans33 · 28/10/2008 10:04

Oh no, Trace!!! That's a disaster! The only thing I can find that they all seem to have in common is lip balm and socks are a necessity! Try this one - I found it quite helpful. A friend of mine gave me a really massive list, which actually was quite helpful - is there any way I can stick word docs up on this site for people to have a look at? It's definitely very all-inclusive - too much, really - but it's got the essentials too!

kayzisexpecting · 28/10/2008 10:06

Hello! Just a quick post from my mobile. Unpacking is going well. My phil and teds arrived yesterday, i love it!! I nearly passed out at work on sunday so the doctor has signed me off work. Hope you are all ok. I hope to have the internet back soon.

zoejeanne · 28/10/2008 10:53

Morning all,

trace I've got a watch on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/597743-hospital-bag-contents and now have a ridicously long list, which probably needs some serious pruning! Hope it helps (and the link works - never tried a link before!)

kayz your P&T has arrived quickly - are you tempted to drive it round now, just to practice - I would be! Hope you're feeling better for being off work.

veggie I am going through a bit of a baking phase, as well as a list phase - so promise to do muffins soon (and will tell you about them so it feels like sharing!) Have a great day at the airport and welcoming DH home.

Beans33 · 28/10/2008 11:47

Oh my God, guys, I'm so braindead. I'm not even up to making preggy brain errors, I don't even have the ability to do that!! Useless!

anjlix · 28/10/2008 12:06

Hmm all this talk about hospital bag makes me want to do pack. I will be 29 weeks tomorrow and with twins you never know!

veggie just to pass this to you. My mid wife said to not put any nail polish in case they need to do a c-sec. They like to look at the color of your nails. I guess I will get a mani/pedi with clear coat. She said a lot of women get upset when they have to take nail polish off at the hospital.

I was just thinking if I was having a c-sec there would likely be other things for me to get upset about.

chutneymary it was so nice to read that you are avoiding emotional music. I thought I was the only nutcase. But I am avoiding a lot of potentially emotionally distressing things. I am not normally so vulnerable but I guess I have to accept this state for some time.

kayzisexpecting · 28/10/2008 13:00

Hello!!

I thought I'd try the dial up and it works!!

Zoe I did take DS out in it this morning. It's so easy to push. Also DS has had a very long nap in it so it must be comfy.

I hope everyone is ok!

JamInMyWellies · 28/10/2008 13:32

Ok girls I said I would do this ages ago but never got round to it. But seeing as there is so much talk on hospital bags here is the ridicularse amount of stuff I took into hospital with DS.

toiletries, this had every item you could possibly imagine ever using on your body creams oils.....

hair Straighteners & hairdryer

Breast pads, maternity pads, breast pump, eye mask, ear plugs, hair bobbles, various hair brushes.

Ipod & charger

Mobile phone & charger

book, magazine, puzzle book, notepad, pen, pencil, pack of playing cards.

2 nighties
2pjamas
2 nursing bras
bath & hand towel
dressing gown
10 pairs of knickers
going home clothes
pillow
crocs or flipflops

snacks and drinks had enough to stock a corner shop.

wallet & cash

Babies bag

10 nappies
sudocream & vaseline
wipes
cotton wool
going home outfit
3 vests
3 babygrows
blanket
socks
beanie hat
baby towel

I cannot believe I had soo much stuff, imagine hairdryer and straighteners plus pack of playing cards I mean really if I had the ability to have a game of cards then am sure you are not in proper labour I had one massive wkend bag and small wheelie suitcase.

This time I will be taking.

small toiletries bag might include some tinted moisturiser and benetint.

hairbobble and hair band

Ipod, mobile phone, camera, change for patient line.

2 nighties one for giving birth in one emergency one. dressing gown

Crocs or flipflops

Going home outfit trackie bots and nursing t-shirt.

4 pairs of knickers.

Pillow

Bath & hand towel.

Couple of large bottles of water and dextrose sweeties.

Babies Bag.

4 nappies

tub of vaseline

cotton wool

2 vests

2 babygrows

swaddling blanket

warm cardigan

beanie hat.

Make sure you take plenty maternity pads, I found my post bleeding quite heavy and changed v frequently.

Just remember your partner can pop home and get you anything else you need there is no need to take the kitchen sink with you. Think about maybe splitting your stuff in to a labour bag and a post labour bag.
