Ruthy no, no, no not hanging ON to end of bed it was hanging OFF it! Not a trapeze artist by any means (altho would admittedly be a pretty low trapeze). Anyway you'll work it out when/if the need arises...

I have updated FACEBOOK as requested by Oblamov has anyone else????????????????? I am also somewhat confused...

ruthosaurus · 16/10/2008 16:51

I'm gonna do a spreadsheet when I wake up...

By the way, there's a thread about getting a present from your DH/DP when you have a baby. I didn't know presents were an option - I was going to get him one (from the baby, like you do with small children ). Well, you live and learn.

Sparkle, hanging on or hanging off, it's all hanging! Sounds v energetic, anyway. I think at present I would need to be propped up with so many cushions it'd be like a bouncy castle. Actually, that sounds kind of fun. He's just got home, I shall try to look alluring and mobile... Nope, not gonna happen.

chocolategal · 16/10/2008 17:12

LackaDAISYcal · 16/10/2008 17:37

I have finally bought a pram

Thought I'd left it a bit late, as everyone who was selling things at good offers were out of stock, but we have tracked one down.

We are the proud owners of a Phil and Teds Sport double in charcoal/black. A friend is lending us a cocoon and we may or may not buy a buggy-snuggle for DD; it depends on the size.

LackaDAISYcal · 16/10/2008 17:43

I got a bunch of flowers both times for a push present, and the first bunch, not until I'd sobbed my heart out as everyone had cards and flowers by their bedside and I didn't (got on the PN ward at 4ish saturday and DH and DSis went home to sleep and I didn't get any visitors till the sunday afternoon).

I have been hinting at a diamond solitaire since February (my engagement ring is a three tiny stones affair and wasn't really an engagement ring, then it was recycled after we'd split and got back together), but it is falling on deaf ears. I think I should be happy that he didn't go bananas when I bought the Wii.

I'm not that bothered about a present really; I just like to wind him up about it

barbareebaa · 16/10/2008 17:49

hi chaps,
Had scan today and baby is head down - mw wasn't sure yesterday.

have a couple of questions...

if you eat loads does that mean you have a massive baby? Since going on maternity leave I have been eating all the time (good stuff and rubbish in equal measure) (ish) ()

Also we were given a moses basket and it has a plastic covered mattress - is this o.k. ot use if it's covered? Dh seems to think it will be fine as nothing will have been able to get inside and we should be able to disinfect it but I'm not convinced

and...

I am confused about what babies sleep under. I have a sleeping bag thingy but what do they wear and will he be warm enough and do I put a blanket over and how will I know if he's too hot and would it be better to use blankets and how many?

Think that covers it.

Will go catch up now!

Pinkyminkee · 16/10/2008 18:07

Yay well done on buying a pram, lacks. Bit of advice- get a 5 point harness for DD- my frineds DC's are forever unclipping the starps on her sport. The sleeping bag that goes iwth the P&T is lovely, especially when you move the baby into the seat.

barbs Nooo baby does not get big because you eat a lot!! If that was right, my mum woulds be right about DD being small because I 'starved her' in the womb!!

Moses bassket mattress- you could give it a wash down with some dettol. They used to say new matress for new baby but now it's supposed to be ok for siblings..I dunno- it's your call.

Vest and sleepsuit with sleeping bag should be enough, or sheet and blanket, depending how warm the room is, bearing in mind 16-18degrees is thwe 'optimum' for baby which actually feels quite cool.

misdee · 16/10/2008 18:11

well i couldnt find argos in harlow. went into mothercare and sopent too much, but got £25 off a bugaboo footmuff due to a bit of dust whooo hoooo!

barbareebaa · 16/10/2008 18:16

thanks Pinky!
We are getting a new mattress for the cot (getting - we're so disorganised!)but just wondered whether it would be the same for the moses basket with it not being fabric covering.

re: large baby - just feeling guilty I guess for the huge bars of dairy milk, biscuits, fruit gums, apple crumble, crisps and the rest I have been consuming... Don't want him to get stuck is all!!

pinky, I was going to ask you about the sleeping bag bit. We are borrowing a cocoon, and I wondered of it was worth getting the sleeping bag for DD. Is it sized to get them through toddlerhood?

barbs if size of baby had anything to do with eating DD would have been mahoosive as I muched my way through a huge (150g) bar of galaxy every day of my 3 month maternity leave before she was born, sometimes with a magnum or two thrown in for good measure. She was 7lbs 6ozs.

I have just been having a conversation with DS about the state of his poo......oh the joys of parenthood

He is a lot better and hasn't been sick since lunchtime, and has managed to keep down two cups of flat lemonade and cup of the broth from some home made chicken soup. He has a raging temperature now though, poor lamb and has only slept for a couple of hours. He hasn't been this ill since he was a baby . He did perk up after his nap, but I think that was due to the medised he'd had earlier.

barbareebaa · 16/10/2008 19:04

Lacks Glad ds is feeling a bit better - hope his temperature eases off soon.

I'm glad it's not just me with the chocolate thing - I completely went off it at the beginning of pregnancy but since about 30 weeks I can't get enough!!

re:pads - I heard the kotex nightime ones are good but couldn't find any so have got boots own maternity ones instead which I hope will be o.k

vbab78 · 16/10/2008 19:21

lacks - glad DS is feeling better. Hope you are feeling ok. Saying that getting a cool buggy like the P&T must have perked you up a little.

ruth - hope you scan went ok.

LackaDAISYcal · 16/10/2008 19:30

barbs, I'd have been happier spending nearly £400 on me rather than two of my lovely DCs

Really really really need to sell the other two prams now.

DCs all in bed, DH and I will be joining them shortly!!

ruthosaurus · 16/10/2008 19:34

Aw, Lacks, your poor DS. I hope he's better really soon (and jumping around and driving you nuts).

Pads: I got "got" by the madwoman at the till in Mothercare and have 48 (count 'em) of the huge sofa-sized ones. Actually, that's given me an idea - I could use one instead of a bfing pillow, or to support my bump in bed.

Just got a phone call of hate from DH's grandmother who sent him a cheque for his birthday last month - actually, she sent the baby a cheque for DH's birthday, with instructions not to spend it on ourselves - and he forgot to ring and thank her. So she just spent 5 mins shouting at me until I passed the phone over to him, and then she shouted at him for 5 mins, then he shouted at me for swearing at ebay (trying to buy a sling and some tool has just pushed the bidding up by a tenner for no reason with over an hour to go). And we can't even bank the sodding cheque as she always insists on sending cheques to a joint account we don't have. And then tells us to get a joint account.

DH has just apologised for being shouty as he didn't realise she'd been yelling at me as well and was in a bad mood cos of the ear damage he'd sustained. Families, eh?

HI all sorry have not caugh up properly. Have been having some dramas with FIL having a funny reaction to his medication. Fortunatley all appears to be well for the mo. Poor chap he has been through it recently.

Firstly. v. excited about our twins arriving next week!!!Yay MerryM

Secondly, hana I really would not rely on Bfeeding as contaception... I knnow people with babies a year or less apart because of this.. tis a risky business!

maternity pads.. I just buy bog standard sainsbos maternity pads, and use two ata time for the first day or so. I find those dry weave top sheet thin pad thingies irritate my skin, tbh. Plus I had sections and am always anaemic and they like to keep an eye on my loss for that reason.

Lacks Sorry to hear your little man is poorly. Hope he feels better soon. THere are some truly nasty bugs around at the mo.

RE-sleeping bags- you will not be suprised to hear that DS was a bit big for the sleeping bag, but it has been fab for DD. I used a P&T sleeping bag for DD in the back seat and a buggy snuggle on the front seat. HTH.

Pinkyminkee · 16/10/2008 19:43

lol at your gran, rutho.. nice try on forcing the joint account!

We're just crap at remembering to go and get one, hana - been meaning to for about 5 years... Might well be something we do v soon, but not cos that old haddock told me to!

I wouldn't mind, but it's his grandma! The one that has told us she wasn't really bothered about any more great-grandchildren as she already has 5. Git.

Oh, I do so want chocolate big-time now. I may have to eat more cake decorations from before the dawn of time from the back of the cupboard, having eaten all the glace cherries the other day.

Pinky, I went and got lovely white fabric for the moses basket today and the nice lady in JL was most helpful, especially after I promised not to go into labour in the shop. It's going to be a piece of cake to make this thing, I think it will be a nice weekend project.

Shit, now I've made myself think about cake... Laters, I'm going to have to make flapjack now.

LackaDAISYcal · 16/10/2008 20:00

aaaaaarrrrrrsssssseeeeee for you rutho, families!!
You aren't members of the Royle family though are you?

FWIW, DH and I don't have a joint account either! For no real reason other than we just never got round to organising one. I've always had my own salary though and we earned simialr amounts and he paid some things and me others. It's only gotten tricksy recently since I've not been working/earning a pittance. He is paying money into my account every month, but I suppose we should set up a joint account at some point.

Moral dilemma #132..........I've already had a big if maltesers today. DH doesn't know this and has bought me more. Do I say, "thanks, lovely I'll save them for tomorrow".....or scoff them like the big pig I am?

Thanks for that on the P&T sleeping bag pinky. DD is only a little spout so she will probably be fine in the bag for a bit, at least over the winter. I'll have a look at one in Mothercare and then buy one on ebay

ceebee74 · 16/10/2008 20:02

Evening all

Had a busy day at work today chatting working really hard and that is it now until Wednesday! Got my leaving do on Monday evening though - going to a lovely Italian for a meal - yummy!

Monkey will try not to take offence at your HR joke - some of us are actually quite useful you know

Barbs I have always used sleeping bags on their own without extra sheets/blankets and DS has always just had a babygro on - but our house is quite a warm house and don't think the room ever gets down to 16-18 degrees (which is surprisingly quite cold) - so I guess it depends on the temp in your room.

Lacks yeah on your pram! I still have to work out how the hell our second hand P&T works - the woman I bought it from gave me a quick demo but I have forgotten it all now. I have printed the instruction booklet off the internet and tasked DH with going through all the different combinations to suss it out!

As for 'pushing' presents, I got a bunch of flowers on the Saturday morning, having given birth on the Friday evening but I don't remember DH buying me anything else. However, this time, I am insisting on a Radley handbag although no doubt I will have to go with him and choose it myself which kinda takes the gloss off it - but who cares, if I end up with a handbag

A friend at work who hasn't seen me for a couple of weeks said that my bump has definitely dropped - is this right at 34 weeks??

Anyway, enough waffle - this is what happens when I can't check MN all day

sparkletoes · 16/10/2008 20:06

Hana I believe one of the admin people need to invite you to the Due Nov group... ChocOrange is one of them..

BF as contraception. I BF my DS for 7.5/8 mnths and didn't get my cycle back until a month after finishing (was great!). HOWEVER I would never have relied on this as a contraceptive or advise anyone else too! Far far too risky!

Congrats on your pram Lacks! Nice one.

I GOT A SLING!! Found the Babasling in TKMax for £24.99, had been looking at it in J Lewis but it was about double the price!

Nice DH Gran Rutho!

ruthosaurus · 16/10/2008 20:13

Sorry, Lacks, I really don't see the dilemma, chick. Eat the maltesers, then eat some more tomorrow. It's like bf - if you don't keep up demand, production may slow down or even stop altogether - if your DH thinks you've gone off maltesers no more will appear!

RE: families - No, we're more like hillbillies (at least his side is - they all live within arguing distance and feud for sport). Mine are more like something out of Gormenghast. Apart from my stepmum, who is ace and drives DH nuts but he can't say anything because she is So Helpful.

Ooh - I got a sling, too, Sparkle - ebay again, I'm afraid! It's more of a front-loading baby carrier tho'. Black with black gingham. Nice.

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 16/10/2008 20:16

result on the sling sparkletoes. TKMaxx is great if you are in there at the right time.

PMSL at Gormenghast rutho.......did you have a manservant who slept at your bedroom door as you were groing up then?

I now have two slings.......a baby buddha that I bought off a friend, and a close baby carrier that another friend who was testing slings gifted to me.
