Hi all, have had a really active day today so ds & I are now slobbing out in front of Monsters Inc!

hatty I would ask your friend nearby about looking after your dd's. But don't worry, I'm sure it will all work out fine.

Hope all those feeling ill feel better soon.

hattyyellow · 29/09/2008 15:32

Just sent a friend who's having another section tomorrow this link to the Monty Python "Birth" sketch. She sent it to me the night before my section and it really made me laugh! uk.youtube.com/watch?v=arCITMfxvEc

And found to my amazement that there's all sorts of home videos with close ups of women giving birth - is it just me or would you think twice before letting the entire internet world see every intimate detail of your anatomy? Maybe it's just me being prudish...

Mibbes you poor thing. I remember iron tablets making my stomach upset but not feeling sick and dizzy - maybe its a separate side effect of the pregnancy? And wow, twins alone -that would be tough.

Beans is there any way if you do end up going on the trip that you could just chill out at the cottage and enjoy the social/dinner side without the long walks? We all went away for a weekend for my 30th birthday when I was about 6 mths pregnant with my twins, and I actually quite enjoyed just lying around the cottage watching dvds and doing little strolls - and then enjoying meals with everyone in the evening..I can see why being spoilt at your mums is more tempting though!

pixsix · 29/09/2008 15:35

mibbes sorry to hear you had another scare but great that they think everything is ok. Good luck for the injections later.

Beans I hope your dh is understanding about you not wanting to walk so far at that stage. I think you were very brave to even consider it!

Get well soon to everyone who is feeling poorly.

I had my 30 week midwife appointment today. She has moved my due date to the one given by the sonographer at my growth scan a few weeks ago so my official due date is now 1st December not 7th! I am a bit as this means I'm now 31 weeks not 30 and I'll be 37 weeks when I move house not 36. Plus I haven't bought a single thing for the baby yet! I was planning to buy things when we had moved but that suddenly seems far too late as I'll already be officially 'full-term' by then. I'm not sure why a week's difference seems so drastic but it really does!

She also said I have borderline high blood pressure so she has sent blood off to be tested for pre-eclampsia. She didn't seem worried though as I had no protein in my wee.

Well am off to start panic-buying baby stuff (or at least have a quick browse on the Mothercare site....)

Poor you Mibbes. I use Spatone from time to time which is another natural iron supplement. It's very gentle on the tummy too. Glad your bleed is nothing to worry about but it does sound a bit scary. Take it easy won't you? can't wait to see pictures of the nursery.

Beans - I think hill walking is out for the reasons Veggie suggested! I don'[t think men always appreciate that we are carrying extra weight and full of hormones etc so tramping up and down hills is not what we fancy at the moment! I remember when I was 30 weeks pg with DD1 (so no buggy etc to worry about) we met friends for lunch in Greenwich and DH was most put out that I didn't fancy a post prandial jaunt up the hill to the observatory! He does keep on saying that a bit of exercise is good for you (which it is of course!) but a think a gentle stroll to the shops, a cup of coffee and a mooch round is better than taking oneself up a hill!

ML - I was going on 9th Dec (39+6) but it looks like I'll have a 2 week old baby by then! I have a week's hol to use up and so I reckon I'll pop off at about 36w as the baby will likely be born w/b 24th Nov! That's 8 weeks today. Bloody hell, where is the time going? Had a couple of dodgy dreams about the spinal block but am going to pester my friend who is an anaesthetist to see if he can put my mind at rest.

Quick Q about freebies - when I was pg with DD2, I remember reading about some government iniative to give pregnant women some cash from the 7th month to buy fruit and vegetables. I missed out then as it was coming in after DD2 was born (March 2007). Has anyone heard about it? Has anyone had any vouchers or anything? TBH, I'd buy the fruit and veg anyway, but I'm a sucker for a freebie so if there's any going, I'd like to claim it.

JollyBear · 29/09/2008 15:55

Hello everyone,

I hope I haven't missed too much while I've been on my holidays - I've only read this thread to catch up

Hugs and hot tea to all those feeling poorly - hope you are all better soon.

mibbes Sorry to hear you've been having bleeding . It must have been really scary. Hope the injection isn't too bad.

hatty I hope you get the childcare situation sorted. I agree that you couldn't relax into labour knowing that your girls were bored waiting outside!

Time is really ticking now, eeek! I don't start ML until the 1st December which will be 36 weeks but have soooo much to do before then both work and baby preparations. I need to nag my DH to get the room sorted!

Is anyone else suffering from painful leg cramps at night? If anyone has any ideas about how to stop it, I'd be most grateful, it really hurts!

EffiePerine · 29/09/2008 16:24

Jollybear: I get them most mornings as well. Don't point your toes before getting out of bed! Haven;t figured out how to stop them though.

SummerLightning · 29/09/2008 16:27

Jolly yes I do sometimes, also sometimes I feel them coming on, and I stop stretching and this prevents them happening, but if they wake you up then there's nothing you can do about it at the time! have heard bananas/calcium supplement/drink more water all as things to help. But mine haven't got bad enough to worry as I don't get the really painful full blown ones more than once every few weeks.
Drinking more water is one I am not keen to do (even though i know i should) as it means more mid night weeing!!

poisondwarf · 29/09/2008 17:05

Thanks Umlellala & Effie for bringing the slings along to the park on Saturday (and thanks for the loan of the Ergo Effie) - and a special big thanks to Umlellala's DS for being such a gorgeous model. Also nice to meet lowrib, sunshine185 and GettingBiggerBird. chutney not sure what is happening for the next meet-up - I think there are a few people interested in meeting up this Thursday, probably at Victoria. I may go myself if it happens but not sure yet - meet-up thread here for anyone who's interested. And yes I vaguely remember the fruit & veg thing as well but haven't heard anything about it since - was it just a proposal or an actual policy? Let us know if you find anything out about it - maybe it's worth starting a thread about?

hatty I sympathise with your predicament re childcare when you're in labour. I may well be in the same boat myself and the thought of having to drag DS to the hospital gets me a bit panicky - unlike you, however, am putting off actually getting round to sorting something out to put my mind at rest. MIL's friend sounds like a godsend and would probably love to help out - you'll just have to be firm with DH I reckon.

pixsix I can understand you feeling a bit freaked out at suddenly having your EDD shifted at this late stage, especially with all the stuff you have to do. Hope all is okay with your blood pressure. Try not to panic about buying stuff though - you really don't need that much stuff that you won't be able to get hold of easily after the event.

Re nursery furniture - we use the kitchen table for changing (it very rarely get used as a kitchen table any more though) and a tall boy for DS's clothes. But then we don't have the luxury of a nursery - we are all in one (very cramped) bedroom. I guess it's all a matter of how much space you have.

Maternity leave starts about 12th November for me (will be 36 weeks I think). But still have loads of leave to take before then so only have 22 days (158 hours) left actually in the office (3.5 days of which I'll be on courses). Not that I'm counting!

poisondwarf · 29/09/2008 17:06

Oh and JollyBear magnesium supplements really helped me with leg cramps last time.

Veggiemummy · 29/09/2008 17:09

i've heard that the cramps can be low calcium or magnesium so maybe a bit more milk.

those free veggie vouchers sound good, we are also not in the poor house but i love free stuff.

have been doing some of the Challenging obesity course today and discovered that according to my BMI (pre pregnancy) i was just in the overweight range so better be on a health kick once this is all over and out.

feeling a bit better now, though tummy still a bit tender. have also been a bit nervous as veggiebaby hasn't been very active lately then all of a sudden just now he is going crazy doingg all sorts of cartwheels and bumps, feels quite nice (esp as no rib pokes as yet).

OP posts:
Turniphead1 · 29/09/2008 17:22

Mibbes - take it easy please. Youve had a lot to contend with. Like Veggie I found Floradix fine to take.

Beans hope you get sorted on the Lakes thing. We are going away for a few days when I am 34 weeks and because I already have bad SPD which I know will be pretty horrendous by then , we are going about 25 miles away lol...

Kimberly I have only just noticed that you are at J&L too!! Silly me, didn't understand your last comment on that. And we are due only 5 days apart - wouldn't it be cool if we were there at the same time! I have my 28 week appt on thursday. Are you m/w led or consultant?

Hope everyone feeling better soon. I am exhausted for some reason.

mibbes · 29/09/2008 19:46

Veggie hurray for active veggiebaby, it is such a worry when you suddenly realise you haven't felt movement for several hours but then such a relief when the wee one punches/kicks you

Jolly I have had several episodes of night cramps - the last of which lasted for ages and was really sore. I have been eating plenty of bananas and drinking loads of milk to help. My NCT teacher said to stretch calves before going to bed and even try rolling a glass bottle under your foot before bed... she has some funny ideas sometimes but I guess she knows what she's talking about as she is a NCT tutor for other NCT teachers.

Thanks for all of your kind words ladies. In the end my blood had enough anti-D from last time so no need for any more but they want me in tomorrow for more blood tests (can't remember the specific name of it) but it is to test for baby cells in my blood - any ideas what that is all about ? Have been feeling quite emotional tonight, I think today has just been a bit too much for me, esp as when I went back to work my boss just said 'good you're back' and didn't ask how I was. I wish I'd taken the MW advice and gone home to rest instead of soldiering on at work

rosmerta · 29/09/2008 20:04

mibbes I've missed a lot of posts lately so don't know what's going on but hope you're ok [hugs]

Veggiemummy · 29/09/2008 20:07

oh mibbes you poor thing and poo poo nasties to your meanie boss. I'm not sure about the blood test but i have heard the can now separate the babies blood cells from your own blood cells and so can test it maybe they are thinking they could test for babymibbes' Rh factor? sorry that is really just a guess.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 29/09/2008 20:10

veggie lol @ poo poo nasties!

Turniphead1 · 29/09/2008 20:11

Veggie are you OK? Sorry I missed last few days.

katie3677 · 29/09/2008 20:33

Bananas have helped me with leg cramps this time around and I do notice that if I don't have one for a couple of days that the cramps come back with a vengance.

Sorry for the totally me post, but I have to share my bizarre experience of today...
I was driving past our local shop and post office this afternoon (I live in a tiny village) and saw a man running out of the shop with a till. It took me a couple of seconds to click what was happening, and then I launched into good citizen mode, forgetting I was 7 months pregnant and leaping out of the car to try to stop him getting into the getaway car. Luckily realised that this was not a great idea when I saw the flash of a knife, but not until after I had managed to grab the till off him and note down the car number plate. My DH thinks I'm an idiot, I think I agree!

Veggiemummy · 29/09/2008 20:37

yeah apart from dodgy belly, i was just answering a question of mibbes about a blood test.

Rosemerta poo poo seems to be my sons favourite term lately, and believe me some of his are nasty.

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 29/09/2008 20:43

katie that is amazing, how did you get the till off him, well done will you get a reward? are they going to put you in the local paper?

OP posts:
rosmerta · 29/09/2008 20:54

katie wow! You were so brave & lucky!!

veggie, ikwym re nasty poos. I've noticed ds's so much more since potty training! Fortunately, he hasn't yet picked up poo can be used as an adjective!

Veggiemummy · 29/09/2008 21:16

oh & not just adjectives he'll happily throw it randomly into conversations.

OP posts:
EffiePerine · 29/09/2008 21:27

looks like the free fruit and veg (£3 a week, woohoo) is only for low income families (like milk vouchers)

www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/HavingABaby/AfterTheBirth/DG_4002854

Katie, you local hero! I can imagine your DH saying, 'you did WHAT???'

Mibbes: take the time you need to rest and recover, if your boss isn;t sympathetic tell them to bugger off.

mibbes · 29/09/2008 21:34

OMG katie you are the Dec AN thread hero

Veggiemummy · 29/09/2008 21:46

i think the shop man should contact the local paper, what a story, 'local mum to be gives thief the bump'
