charleypops · 24/02/2005 17:30

Thank goodness Jonah. Phew. I thought you meant she had double and triple stitching!!

welshmum · 24/02/2005 19:32

Hello Eastyorkmum - so glad that you can join us and very pleased that you reckon you're an older mum - I certainly am and I'm only on number 2.
Charley and JonahB - my friend's story wasn't meant to scare you, was meant to reassure. She had a pretty 'easy' time of it by all accounts and is absolutely fine after. She looked flippin' gorgeous all the way through too

Lua · 24/02/2005 20:14

Hi Eastyorkmum! Welcome! I am on number 2, but I am not a spring chicken either... Although nowadays one has to qualify this by saying I am not 69!

Count me in the book club too! I love reading book, but I am usually to lazy to discover new book on my own...
KVG sorry I meant to say earlier, the last Atwood's books I read was "blind assasin" and "Oryx and Crake", I love both, but the second my require some geekiness to be fully appreciated...

I have a extra sling that I used 2-3 times with DD. Is made of organic cotton and is an unbleached color. Would anyone be interested? I would be happy to send someone or bring to the meting if anyone would like. I would like to find a loving home for it...
I also just got a springy pink pregnant top from the US that is too big for me. I think the major problem is that I don't have enough boobs.. I can't return it, so would be happy to give to someone that could use it

Can you tell I have been trying to clean the house?!

Lua · 24/02/2005 20:16

actually, this is what the top looks like

redheadmum · 24/02/2005 20:40

nab · 24/02/2005 21:23

HELLO! Trying to feel more positive but feel like it has all been spoilt for us. I was so determined to not be at the hospital every week, and was so pleased when my consultant put me as low risk. After nearly losing baby 1, baby 2 having problems, losing baby 3 I wanted all to be nice this time. Let's just hope that in 4 weeks everything will be cleared up as then we don't have to worry. Don't get me wrong, I am okay having a non-perfect baby but would prefer to know.

Uki · 24/02/2005 23:09

Hi Nab,
You sound like your having a rough time so just want to send you [hugs]
I haven't even been given anything to worry about, and I am constantly worried baby is o.kay, even had a bit of a cry at the doctors the other day. Has your doc given you a counsellor or someone to speak to, there must be someone at the hoptital.
I'm sure baby will be o.kay, it's just that they can do so many tests these days to make sure all is well.
try to send the baby positive healing vibes, i'm off to do that at yoga today, but considering it's only 10:07am and i am sitting in a cool dark room and sweating already i don't know how i'll cope. it is boiling in Oz today and i wish i could have some of the snow!!!

Cooperoo · 25/02/2005 06:11

Hello all and a big welcome to the new posters. I am still new myself but enjoying it so far.
Nab - I really feel for you, you are having a rotten time of it and having to be so strong about everything. You need support from hospital staff not judgement. Have you tried contacting any support groups? I don't know any I am afraid but someone on here probably will. We will also do our best I am sure to boost you and sympathise. Pregnancy should be such a lovely time and so often it is not as we are overwhelmed with worries about the unknown or 'possible' outcomes. Stay strong and keep posting.
Beautiful day here but I said to DH I actually prefer to wrap up in jumpers etc when I am pregnant as I feel so on show in T-shirts etc. Plus all my bras are too small and so I have bulges where I shouldn't. Must go shopping. I have some maternity tops people have given me but the bump isn't big enough for them yet. If it were I would be ok. I feel at a real in between stage. DD had a lie in today till 7.30 so I was able to get up and showered etc in peace. Hope it will mean the rest of the day will go as well. She is currently running around in a PJ top, nappy and pink socks. Her choice. Normally it is a dressing gown and her wellies so I guess we are getting somewhere.
Tea- I didn't have my Mars egg yesterday, in fact I got through the day without any chocolate at all . I will be sampling it today though. Will keep you posted.
Better get dd dressed as we are off to toddler group this morning.
Have a good day everyone.

katzguk · 25/02/2005 09:08

morning all

its gone very quite in here all of a sudden! but then its oftenc chattier at the beginning of the week, we obviously all hate mondays!

Nab - just thinking of you at the mo, hoep you get the answers you want.

welshmum · 25/02/2005 09:25

Welcome redhead mum - has your little one got red hair too? 2 of my favourite little boys have red hair and they look just adorable.
Nab - did you see the article I posted? I don't know how much use you found it but I remember that I thought it was quite reassuring during my first pg.
Lua - you got me thinking, maybe when we meet up in April we could do a bit of swapping? Books maybe, maternity tops that didn't work for us....just a thought.

mrsflowerpot · 25/02/2005 09:35

Nab, I really feel for you at the moment. The uncertainty is all so hard. I've been in and out for scans at the hospital too for various reasons, all of which looked at totally objectively are not things to get massively stressed about, but you can't look at it objectively when it's your pregnancy. I think that sometimes the hospital staff lose sight of that a little, because they see so much. It's very hard to be told, "there might be this problem, it's probably OK, come back in x weeks, and don't worry!" How are you supposed not to worry fgs? I totally understand why you wouldn't want amnio, I've turned one down too (slightly elevated Downs risk) - luckily the dr I saw about it was very supportive and I got the impression he didn't think I should have it anyway (although of course they'll never say anything like that).

Welcome redheadmum, from another red-headed mum! Ds seems to have missed the genes from me and his red-haired dad, he's sandy but not really ginger. And hi to EastYorksmum too.

Reading group idea is a really good one - the book club forums on here are a great place to get ideas but I can never work out if there is an actual book club where they read a book a month. Have been thinking lots about books because of this conversation - the other author I love is Sebastian Faulks, can't believe I forgot about him before. Have been racking my brains to think of what books I have liked, and seem to have forgotten most of what I have ever read.

Thanks again to everyone!!
Welshmum: can you please remind me of the article as I can't remember what I have read and what I haven't!!
I am calm because I am having my baby....but need a name!!!!! We have one for a girl but can't agree for a boy. Thomas has picked Edward for the name and we will use it as a middle so he can feel involved. Hubby doesn't like it enough for a first name.
DD still driving me nuts asking for the potty and then refusing to sit on it. Anyone know where I can get a pink potty from? She's calling Daddy! Daddy! as a car the same colour has just driven past. aw! she asked for him when I put her to bed as he wasn't home and she knew.

nab · 25/02/2005 11:13

Welshmum: Just found the link. Thank you!!

welshmum · 25/02/2005 11:14

Nab I put the link on the thread you started which was specific to the perceived problem - can't remember which topic heading it was under but it's there.

Cooperoo · 25/02/2005 11:32

Hello all.
Nab - you made me laugh about your dd yelling Daddy. My dh has a little moped that he uses to nip about camp and we see him about sometimes when we are walking around. DD says Daddy to every moped she sees and brrmmmm brmmmmm with her hands out like on the handle bars. There are quite a few mopeds too. People have them or 4x4's...or both!
Just to let you know today I have had a milky bar egg and a smarties one . The milky bar one has the brightest PINK contents I have ever seen and tasted yuk. Dread to think about the additives in that one and do NOT recommend. The smarties one on the other hand was very tasty with choc moussy inside and little crunchy smarties. I will have that one again.
I wanted to recommend Sebastian Faulkes. Charlotte Gray was excellent. I love reading but don't do enough sadly and I love the idea of a club but know I couldn't commit enough to make it work for me. The last two books I read were the Mumsnet ones on pregnancy and babies that my Mum bought for me and posted over. Those were great and led me to this site.
To the York dwellers - Have you ever eaten at The Crown in Great Ouseburn? It is fabulous food and well worth the trip. One of the things I loved about York was all the fab places to eat out though. I have just remembered about my FAVE haunt once dd was born. There is an old church on the same road as WHSmith near the Specsavers end. I think it is called St Nicholas or Michael, anyway it is still run by the church I think and they are really child friendly, pro breastfeeding, fabulously helpul and do the most delicious home cooked food. Quiches, salads, cheesy potato pie etc. That is one place I REALLY miss. I loved it there and it was the highlight of any trip to York once dd was born. Much better than trying to feed in some small and smelly changing room in M&S or BHS. Yuk.
Had better go for now and do some washing and washing up from this morning eek. (I miss my dishwasher).
By the way Desperate Housewives starts on our TV station (yes, just the one, but I am not complaining) this Wed. It is on late so is it worth recording?

Lua · 25/02/2005 12:19

Morning All! How's everybody doing? Is friday! Yoohoo! I can't wait for the beggining of the last trimester (2 weeks to go) so I can officially whinge about how tired I am!

Coop- I definetely recommend taping "desp. Housewifes". I am totaly hooked on!
Thanks for the advice on egg types. I have been marvelled at all the choices here, and thought about trying all of them. But you'll save me from trying the bad ones! Thanks! the smarties one sounds great!

Nab - It sounds like you had some good news. Sorry is still all so difficult! Hope all would be clear next visit. I am amazed that the consultant can't give any more definitive prospects or answers. Can you try to see someone else?

charleypops · 25/02/2005 12:27

Hello, welcome and CONGRATULATIONS redheadmum! My we are popular! I'm gueassing it's because most having now had their anomoly scan and reached their 24 week mark are getting EXCITED about our new babies!

Nab - I hope you're feeling better and more positive today honey, like some of us have said, pregnancy is so worrying, even if nothing's shown up in tests (none of which are 100% anyway it seems), so god knows how you're feeling, but lots of hugs x

Coop - I love the image of your dd running round in dressing gown and wellies! I think
I might know what church you mean - did they sometimes have jumble sales?? That's handy to know about though. If I'm able to breastfeed, though, I'll do it discreetly wherever I am and force myself to not feel obliged to skulk off to the toilets to do it Oh yes - definitley tape Desperate Housewives!

Katz/KVG - I think Mondays are our chattiest days then it seems to slow down a bit as the week progresses and sometimes there's hardly any over the weekend.

Welshie - I love red haired boys too - my best boy friend is a ginge . My half sis is a real ginger and both my dad and dp have gingerish beards, so there's a bit of chance that I'll have a ginger boy myself!

KVG - Oo, coffee and cake in Betty's - Great. I probably won't get up there till Pod's here, but that sounds like a lovely idea! I'd left York by 1992 sadly , but remember with great fondness getting messy in the various pubs and dodgy old clubs in my late teens and very early 20's

tribpot · 25/02/2005 12:30

Is Desperate Housewives any good? I saw absolutely nothing appealing in the trailers for it, maybe because I am neither desperate nor a housewife

Incidentally, we applied for a joint account at Cahoot not long ago, there was no category which would apply to dh as a stay-at-home dad (the closest being housewife) - I must write to complain to them about their old-fashioned choice of language.

Welcome to all of our new mums, btw, hope everyone is feeling okay as we plunge towards the final trimester. Hmm, final. Perhaps this means it's time for me to think about making a few preparations ... nah, plenty of time yet

eastyorksmum · 25/02/2005 13:07

Thanks for all the welcomes..mums.its nice to find a web site .......for expecting mothers... I seemed to have forgot how much your body changes during pregnancy ....
I feel like ive had a boob job twice lol...... well its all fun .... just wondering if you new mums will be breastfeeding?
We had the tripple test but i was in two minds whether or not to have it .theres so many risks for older mums these days .but everthing is fine.
Another boy ....I was sure we were having a girl..........maybe next time ...lol well thats what I tell the hubby .. chat soon

tribpot · 25/02/2005 13:19

I'm planning to breastfeed, although never having done it before, I can't say how easy/possible I may find it I've got no intention of skulking off to do it in private either, Charley - whilst also having no intention of displaying my boobs to all and sundry!

Scraggyaggy · 25/02/2005 13:43

Am sick to death of flogging a dead horse. Have just logged on and see that the same old merri-go-round is still going on. Some of these people should be politicians.

Sorry gang, needed to vent. And I know you'll understand me.

charleypops · 25/02/2005 13:55

EYM - CONGRATULATIONS (again) on your BOY!! I'm no "spring chicken" myself, but felt so OLD wehn I discovered I was pg because all the case histories in the mags etc seem to be women in their 20's, also, there's that old 35 years old "cut off" point for various stuff which really made me feel like a has been. In reality, of course, we're not old at all, so stop worrying (if you are ) about that one

Trib - good luck with Cahoot - they sund like they're a good bank - let us know what they say when you pull them up about SAHDs - I bet they'll sort that out striaght away, I imagine they like to think they're very pc I've never breastfed before either (never had a baby though) I expect it'll be a heartbreaking nightmare..

Scraggy - I know!

Lua · 25/02/2005 14:09

I breastfed my DD for 14 months. It was great! Specially because we travel so much in the first 6 months. Very convenient, very bonding, and apparently very good nutritiously! However, I do admit that was very hard in the begining! I am saying that because the only thing that kept me going in the first two weeks was the reassurance of other people that it would get much better later(it did!). Also it was very important to me to have the support of a consultant, who told me that I was not a failure for not finding it to be a very natural and easy thing in the beggining. So... if you decide to give a try, give yourself more than 2 weeks to get through, AND don't listen to everybody else butting in!
