Poor Mibbes, I do hope you feel better soon. As for bedroom action, well...although I am thinking about it now I am sure a crying baby and a cs scar will dampen my ardour. As for your DP, well, mine admitted at the weekend he doesn't find pregnancy very erotic. I think there are elements that he has to push far to the back of his mind...

JollyBear · 08/09/2008 13:38

mibbes That is exactly how I feel! I was worried it might be an infection or something but the consultant said it was just the baby sitting on the pipe from the bladder and that as the pregnancy progresses the baby should move up a bit higher and take the pressure off. It is horrible wanting a wee most of the time!

Hope you are feeling better now. I hope work have sent you home.

zoejeanne · 08/09/2008 13:42

Well I bought a pack of cotton wool and some talc this weekend, in a vague attempt to get organised, but feeling like a fraud now I see how much some of you have done! There was a thread in pregnancy last week about what to pack in your hospital bag, so I printed that out too - and that's my progress

Lots of you seem to be returning from holidays, and you all sounded to have had fun - I'm quite jealous, our holiday seems a lifetime ago (well it was pre pregnancy, so it was LO's lifetime ago).

I had my first boob leakage this weekend - I woke up for a wee and thought I was a bit sweaty, but then realised it was just one boob and it's actually doing something! I'm quite proud actually, as I'm rather flat chested and so for my boobs to do anything is a bit of an achievement! (sorry if TMI here)

pixsix good luck with the scan, and mibbes hope you're feeling better.

hattyyellow · 08/09/2008 14:29

Missmama I'm so so sorry - serves me right for not reading all the way down the thread properly. I'm glad little one is hanging on in there, everything crossed for you.

Indith and Ladyt thanks for the clothes tips. Will check out new look and also have another look at IO, especially if I can justify their prices by wearing the clothes post-baby too.

Effie i love those changing mats!!

Zoe very jealous of milk already! I don't seem to have any signs of it although my boobs are getting huuuuugeee!

LadyThompson · 08/09/2008 14:58

Missmama - meant to say to you - when I was in hospital in May with kidney stones and burst ovarian cyst, the lady in the bed next to me had had to deliver her baby at 27 wks. Now, obviously I hope this doesn't happen to you but although that is very early, her little daughter, whilst obviously receiving special care, was fine and everyone was exceedingly positive and confident. I don't know if that is at all reassuring to you but it is to me (I have a slightly increased risk of having to deliver early). Hope you have no further incidents!

pixsix · 08/09/2008 16:18

Thanks for the good wishes, all was well at the scan, the sonographer said that all the baby's measurements were around the 50th centile and the amniotic fluid is normal.

I noticed afterwards though that the report says 'EDD from dates 7th Dec, EDD from Ultrasound 1st Dec' I wonder if this means my official due date will change? Does anyone know? I will ask the midwife next time I see her but that's not for 3 weeks.....

hattyyellow · 08/09/2008 16:23

Pixsix so glad all went well. When I had my 20 week scan my notes said something similar, that EDD from that scan was 24/12 and from earlier scan 22/12. The midwife said they would keep the earlier date though, but she didn't say why..

Perhaps they bear it in mind if you go overdue - that they can ie induce you earlier if necessary if the scan showed you a week ahead...

LadyThompson · 08/09/2008 16:33

That's great news Pixsix. But I'm an ignoramus about due dates. One of the second timers will know more!

I've barely done any work today. My back is totally screwed, I find sitting up straight for eight hours at a desk a painful, fatiguing bind.

EffiePerine · 08/09/2008 16:51

pixsix: I htink dates from the 12 week scan tend to be more accurate (don't know why). Check with your MW in case. Glad the scan went well - bang on 50% eh?

reban · 08/09/2008 16:55

Hi Ninni and welcome.
We have my eldest sons first day at nursery next week and he is so looking forward to it. He has been into meet the staff and have a play and is desperate to get started, and all the staff seem to love him .. something to do with those blue eyes and long eyelashes which means he gets away with murder!

Hatty re post natal clothes i bought some clothes a size bigger and they did me for a while but with breast feeding i always prefered a top that i could lift up then one i had to unbutton. Its personal preference but with lifting a top up you will have baby (and normally a blanket) over you so you will not feel exposed. But if you have to unbutton a top, your neck down to boob is exposed and i never really liked that.

LT re going to france if you are going anywhere near the Alsace region try Tarte Flambee. It is like a very thin based pizza type bar meal, but with creme fraiche as a base and a variety of diferent topppings. I absolutely love them and they were my stapple diet when i lived there in my early twenties
Also re contraception .. you can never predict when you are going to feel like getting back into the swing of things again. I found breastfeeding a very good form of contraception but i know we are told not to rely on it. Also my ds2 and soon to be dc4 are a result of lack of planning in the contraception department, well lack of condom department, so its quite wise to think ahead (wouldnt change them for the world but i will def be looking into the coil after the birth of this LO!)

Pixsix they normal use your last period to determine your first EDD and then go for your scan measurement as actually EDD. Mine only varied a day this time but it has been over a week different before.

I am very jealous of your glam pic Bisou darent post one of me as the last one taken was at 12 weeks and i look a bit green around the gills!

EffiePerine · 08/09/2008 16:56

LT: I did some Alexander Technique lessons when pg with DS and it really helped with posture and back pain, I had very few problems. I'm already getting twinges this time, but can't really afford to go back, so will be trying to remember what I was taught. Def worth a try IMO - most practitioners will do an introductory lesson so you can see if it helps.

EffiePerine · 08/09/2008 16:57

oh and re feeding clothes: layers. Get some cheap vest tops and wear under normal jersey tops: you can then lift one up and the other down, concealing post-baby belly

hattyyellow · 08/09/2008 17:09

Cheers so much girls for feeding clothes tips, I really appreciate it and am making notes!

Last time around I tandem fed my girls and only felt confident doing that in front of a very limited amount of people! Exposing both boobs and my post twin baby belly was too much for the world!

So clothes didn't really matter so much. I used to express or give them a formula bottle if I wanted to go out. Probably part of why I'd really had enough of breastfeeding by 6 months!

Not sure how long to feed this time - hoping this babe is as good at it as the girls who just latched on and never looked back - very lucky!

Reban drooling at the tarte flambee..that sounds absolutely divine .

zoejeanne · 08/09/2008 17:28

pixsix glad to hear all went well with the scan. If I remember rightly my EDD changed by 8 days, as the first was based on my (irregular) cycle and the second on the 12 week scan - I think the MW said that at 12 weeks all babies are fairly consistent in their growth, but later on it becomes harder to tell as they grow at different rates (but as I'm suffering from PG brain at the moment, and that scan was 12 weeks ago - who knows if I'm right!)

Thanks for the tip off about Alexander Technique, Effie - I will look into it. Anything's worth a try, cos if I am like this at 28 weeks I dread to think what's ahead.

And ditto Reban - not too near Alsace region but food for thought. Mmmm. Off to brave the tube now, dreaming of Tarte Flambee...

waitinggirl · 08/09/2008 18:18

Effie's link to Alexander Technique site also had this wonderful birth story which made me quite teary... this page

reban · 08/09/2008 18:23

Hatty and ZJ i know now im drooling at the thought of having a Tart Flambee again, only been able to get very poor immitations in this country .. but thinking its really too far to go all the way to strasbourg for one meal!

Turnip yes he is a bit of a charmer .. knows exactly when to bat those eyelashes luckily he absolutely loved his visit there and didnt want to leave after the hour. Its going to be a bit strange actually because with him going there full time and his little brother at playgroup three mornings from 7th Oct i will actual be child-free at some points! well for 2 months anyway til no 4 arrives! (sorry yes it is school nursery)

LadyThompson · 08/09/2008 18:24

Ooh Turnip, before I go, could you give me the details of the cranial osteopath? That would be fab. Sorry about your piles though - sounds EXCRUCIATING. But yes - a rare telly night for me, even though I should be mugging up on my Highway Code - theory test in a week and I know naff all as yet. It's a farce! Enjoy the tennis.

Gosh it's hard 2 catch up! I read on my days off but I think everyone else logs on at work! I've had quite a good day of cleaning the flat and doing washing etc. I'm wondering if I seem to need to clean and do washing more than the average? I haven't any kids yet, (except big husband one and dog) but seem to be doing washing and vacumming constantly so starting to panic about new addition coming with more washing! Hasn't helped with the weather and the fact that I haven't got a tumble dryer I spose.... How often do you all do a load of washing / and clean floors etc? (Interested about those with and without kids already!) Maybe I'm just a bit "Monica" from Friends! Anyway, glad the scan went well pixsis - my baby is 75th centile!I have one of those bump bands now and they are great fo covering up so glad it will come in handy for BF too! For all those who have photo's up - you all look amazing - I only have some taken at 24 weeks but I'm lifting my shirt up so I doubt you all want to see my bare tummy! I'm also trying desperately to suck it in as much as possibleso they are a bit unrealistic!

kmp1 · 08/09/2008 18:37

Forgot to add welcome ninni !!

missmama · 08/09/2008 18:55

LadyT When I was in last week, the lady in the opposite bed was having her third daughter - and third caesarean. But her eldest was born at 28 weeks and was starting school yesterday. You have no idea how much that cheered me up when she came to visit.

poisondwarf · 08/09/2008 18:59

Verso - no worries about the work thing. It wasn't a secret or anything - it's just I wasn't sure if I'd spoken about it at the meet-up or not so I thought you might be getting me mixed up with someone else (I know other posters have mentioned work hassles on here). It was nice of you to remember! Agree with you about the fertility awareness method - it's served me fine for many a year and I also used the same principles for getting pregnant both times. The Pill never agreed with me and I simply can't be bothered with any of the others.

pixsix - great news about the scan. Not sure about the dates - do your notes from the 12 week scan say anything or was it just from this scan?

Bisou - gorgeous photo!

Ninii - congratulations and welcome to the thread.

Effie - thanks for the tip about the soft play - I've only tried Zoomaround in Stoke Newington so far in Hackney and to be honest it was a bit grim (and not really that suitable for kids DS's age) so will try that one out some time.

Ooh better go - haven't given DS his tea yet...

Verso · 08/09/2008 18:59

kmp I have a cleaner once a week and she does my floors. We do laundry most days - probably about five loads a week on average. Don't use the tumble drier every time though - but I'm glad to have it as it is useful when needed... didn't have one with DD and you'd be amazed the number of babygros and muslin squares you can get through. The house was festooned!
