hatty that's the exact bed rail that we already have (only we bought the blue one). It's difficult to explain, but the bottom of her new bed comes up a couple of inches around the bottom of the mattress - kind of like a tray almost which the mattress sits inside (there are drawers under the bed so maybe that's why?), so there's no room for the hinges of the rail. You can put the rail on, but then the mattress doesn't lie flat.

We should have thought of it before we bought the bed - but we just assumed that the rail would fit all beds. Sigh.

Will pop on to the meet up thread and see what's what...

hello ladies

back from London, was lovely catching up with friends but happy to be back from hectic transportation and grumpy canary wharf workers glaring at my child. did get given a seat on every tube & DLR i went on though and always the boys getting for me. DS was amazing i didnt take the pushchair and so for the whole week he walked everywhere and didnt once complain or ask to be picked up unless we were with DH, i think he is sick of asking me and me hearing the mummies belly is too big story. He also was a legend on the peak hour tube ride this morning and was so well behaved and ran for the train when we needed to.

I haven't read through as was back on page 5 when i left but i did read something about the linea nigra, very jealous as don't have one, and constantly erect nipples, mine are out of control, so hard that i was i bed the other morning and DS got in for a cuddle and i was kind of cuddling him from behind and he told me to stop scratching his back, it was actually my nipples on his back!!!!! thats out of control. Also caught a look at myself in a full length mirror outside bathroom at our hotel and i have serious cellulite on my legs has anyone else had this during a pregnancy? does it go away?

Veggiemummy · 12/09/2008 13:03

ps hatty that cadi looks really good might have a think about it too, i am getting a little chilly have to make sure we aren't i the same place at the same time wearing it.

TheInvisibleHand · 12/09/2008 13:20

veggie - welcome back! Glad it was a good trip. And looks like we're all going to have to plan our wardrobes if we meet - I was also having a look at that cardi this morning!

mibbes - glad things sound more under control for you - hope the rest goes smoothly for you. I guess we all leave our dignity behind at the hospital door but 3 doctors with a torch definitely sounds a bit much!

Lady T - ! A few more late nights for me I'm afraid. Hope you are having a restful day now!

Re sections - chutney your story from last one sounds really tough! Making me think again about what I want to do. Had an emergency c-section last time, really not too bad. Been thinking about VBAC - no medical reason not to, but looking at the hospital stats, they have a less than 20% sucess rate. Don't really fancy going through the whole agony of psyching up to give birth and then end up with a section anyway...

Effie - can i ask a sling question? Last time round had a Kari-me soft wrap sling which was great, but did have a tendency to get a bit saggy as DD got heavier. How much harder are the woven slings like the Didymos to get the hang of?

zoejeanne · 12/09/2008 13:35

hatty/veggie/tvh I also looked at that cardi in the store, but have sent off for another. However I was seriously tempted as it's very nice wool and feels nice (not always the case at New Look prices, but that is a goodie).

veggie your DS sounds such an angel, hoping all our December babies grow up so well behaved.

ladyT hoping your last day calms down and you get a good send off.

mibbes was sad to read about your scare, but also impressed with how calm you were about it. I'm now glad all is well (but like verso I'm afraid to admit I smiled a bit at your story!)

My worry with c-section is the whole being aware of what's going on - you sounded to have had a particularly bad time chutney. I insisted on general just to get my wisdom teeth out, so not sure how I'll react if I need a whole baby taking out of me without being knocked out first

Veggiemummy · 12/09/2008 14:24

just checked back to cath up on the mibbes & chutney stories as was feeling sorry for them but didnt know what had happened. Chutney i also had not thought about the little monkeys not being in a right position for CS or even that they might try to get away you poor thing. I have heard of hosps taking some time after though and not telling DH's what has happened. Imagine how scary that must be.

Mibbes glad everything is ok inverted cervix is not that uncommon and those in the field of baby medicine should have seen them occasionally so i think they are just bored if they all need a look.

as with slings i have a hugabub love it love it love it, but just wanted to ask, someone once said that the strechy material once can get over stretched and lose their elasticity if used for a 2nd bub. I have a friend due in a couple of weeks who wants to borrow ours until our DS is born and am happy to lend it but am a bit worried that it might be too stretched for us. would this be true or will it be ok?

EffiePerine · 12/09/2008 14:27

rosmerta and everyone else interested in slings, am happy to being a selection along to the meet-up and you can have a go! Also, would you mind if I hung on to my old Didymos? I know I gaily offered a loan, but DH looked at the new (colourful) sling and an eyebrow twitched slightly - I think he'd be happier using the old one which is rather more subtle!

The wrap slings look fiendish to tie, but I am the world's clumsiest woman and I manage OK . The really tricky ones I found were the back carries as you have to actually get the kid onto your back somehow before tying it, but you don't use them till the baby's at least 5 months so plenty of time to practice.

I also found a long sling handy for taking DS to the park when the weather improved. I could carry him in it then untie it to use as a blanket to play on.

Mibbes glad all is OK, lol at the cervix-gazing. My GP made very slighting comments about my pelvic floor at my last smear test which I thought was on the cheeky side.

Am skulking at home atm, as have developed a nasty cold. DH has taken DS out for the day to a friend's house, complete with free babysitting from her teenage daughter so I have the flat to myself. Am about to do some halfhearted tidying up and then head back to bed...

Good luck for your last day LadyT: are you doing anything nice?

EffiePerine · 12/09/2008 14:30

another good site for general sling info (and for meeting others and trying some out)

kmp1 · 12/09/2008 14:39

is the meet up 26th now? Checked the thread

reban · 12/09/2008 15:08

verso we had the exact same problem re bedrail when we moved ds2 to his bottom bunk 2 months ago. Im afraid i didnt find a bedrail solution we just tried to make fallings out less likely by positioning pillows along the side of his bed. Seems to have worked as we only have the occasional accident now. poor thing though he does look so confused when it happens!

LadyThompson · 12/09/2008 15:47

Hello everyone,

Been out for my goodbye lunch and had two glasses of wine, which may count as a binge at this stage. But had about a gallon of water and a heap of grub to compensate, including a giant slice of cheesecake which I bitterly regret.

I have to leave at 6 tonight to go to the dinner party from hell (imagine the nosiest, snipiest woman in the world - she is the hostess) and therefore, although I was at the office until half ten last night, I will have to come in a few times next week inbetween driving lessons. Ho hum.

Welcome back Veggie! Shame you weren't a Londres for the meet-up next Fri night. And Verso, yeah, let's make a plan for the next one. I suppose you couldn't pop along next Fri for an early drink with your DD?

Can someone post a link to the meet up thread. May have to bail again as we spent so much money on holiday its tesco blue and whites for us. Will have a look at the old bank balance and let you all know.

kmp1 · 12/09/2008 18:39

Speaking of the odd tipple - what or how much (if any) do you all have? I always loved a glass of wine (or several ) before falling pregnant, but only have had the odd small glass of wine or spritzer here and there very few times since, and only really in the last month or 2......

kmp1 · 12/09/2008 18:42

Here's the meet up link

LadyThompson · 12/09/2008 18:54

KMP, didn't drink in 1st trim (ok, apart from one glass of champs on my birthday) and now I have perhaps 3 glasses of wine a week, not all together, usually one at a time, and never on an empty stomach and always with loads of water. I figure this is ok. But I could be wrong!

LadyThompson · 12/09/2008 18:55

And yes, I am still in the office as the dinner party I am going to has got delayed

Verso · 12/09/2008 19:03

kmp I don't have any wine or alcohol of any sort while pg. I just completely go off it (it all smells like meths to me) - which is ironic as I'm usually a bit of a lush . Makes it very straightforward though - no worrying about amounts or anything, and no temptation, either!

kmp1 · 12/09/2008 19:22

yeah if I have a small glass I sometimes get heartburn by half way through it, but haven't been put off wanting it unfortunately!

Veggiemummy · 12/09/2008 19:40

i have had the odd sip here ad there and while i would like to say my divine goddess body has made me dislike the taste as natures way of helping me resist it, alas it has on all occasions tasted AMAZING!!! in fact sip (swig) of ale i had recently tasted so good i had to stop myself necking the entire pint, if it hadn't been that the sip was kindly offered to me by a friend i probably would have. But i will be good, i have my nice bottle of Brown Brothers Tarrango to open when i go into Labour, good way to calm the nerves and recommended by all good midwives along with a warm bath.

JamInMyWellies · 12/09/2008 20:17

mm booze wise I did have the occasional weak pimms throughout the Summer but to be honest I do prefer a can of full fat coke instead.

But after the preg and breastfeeding are over I will be back to full on boozes up lushness.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 12/09/2008 20:22

erm, I'm having a small glass of wine right now . I have maybe 1 small glass of wine or beer a week, went off it more in first trimester but now it's my treat. I can remember when DS was 3 days old drinking champagne whilst actually breastfeeding him - such decadence

mibbes · 12/09/2008 21:04

Effie hope you are feeling better soon missus.

LT enjoy dinner with the nosey lady !

OOh Rhinestone champers while BF'ing - I may have to give that a go on xmas day !

I am having no alcohol atall - makes it easier as am afraid if I have 1 I'll remember how much I miss it and want the whole bottle , best just to abstain !
I'm glad my cervix-gawping story made a few of you laugh

poisondwarf · 13/09/2008 15:26

Umlellala - thanks ever so much for your kind offer (isn't MN lovely sometimes?). Would love to try out your slings - it would be great if we could meet up with Effie at the same time (I'm assuming you know each other) and have a mini sling-fest. Perhaps I could come up round your way one weekend - I think I'll be around the weekend after next (around 27th Sept) and possibly the weekend after. I will be having quite a few days off during October as well if weekdays are better, although probably not Wednesdays (which is when Effie is off I believe).

rosmerta meant to say ages ago, thanks for the tip on buggy boards - I didn't know you could get sit-down ones (but then I do walk round with my eyes shut) but yeah it does sound like it might be a bit awkward if you're a long way from the pram (especially if you're a shortarse like me). I shall have to keep my eyes peeled - let us know if you come across any really good ones.

kmp1 - no, the meet-up is still next Friday (19th). I've probably confused things by trying to get the ball rolling for the one after that. For anyone who's missed it, the link to the meet-up thread is here.

LadyT what a nightmare having to go into the office next week when you're all psyched up to go on leave - I'd be gutted. Not that I'm offering you sympathy or anything, what with having 2 months to go myself... Hope your dinner party wasn't too taxing, especially as you didn't have the option of drinking yourself into oblivion.

Speaking of drinking, I don't have it at home or anything but if I'm at a gathering I'll have a couple, mostly spaced out. I think actually the most I've drunk in one go this pregnancy is probably at our meet-up. I was quite quite poorly on the way home ...

Umlellala · 13/09/2008 16:53

Actually, I don't know Effie! (Although I did see a blonde pregnant woman pushing a pram down Church St yesterday who I thought might be her...) but yes, happy to meet up
