verso, glad you had a better holiday than last time!

I've also reached the pinnacle of my MN career today on the front page

oooh! where?!!

theyoungvisiter · 15/08/2008 21:21

I have an entirely unfounded conviction that pregnancy cravings are actually telling you what your body needs - I had an uncontrollable urge for pate today so I took it as a sign that I needed more iron or something and had some! I deliberately bought some with a low liver content and didn't have loads but I think the risks from vit a overdose are pretty low - only a couple of decades ago they used to recommend calves liver as an ideal food for pregnant women so I think the risks are pretty remote. You are probably at more risk from listeria in the pate tbh.

I also (incredibly weirdly) have intermittent cravings for KFC?! Have managed to resist these so far but it's very odd as I haven't eaten KFC since drunken student days. I can't imagine what that could be giving the baby in terms of vits - maybe my body is telling me I need extra fat?

rosmerta · 15/08/2008 21:45

tyv, last time around I did have cravings for McDonalds, fortunately that passed very quickly as McD's usually makes me sick!

verso, I'm the tip of the day! I feel so proud

Hi everyone, back from holiday in Sweden and it has taken me 4 days to catch up on our threads! I can't believe we needed to start a new one already.

Regarding baby goggles, I'm afraid that I was a very bad mother and didn't think my DD was gorgeous when I first saw her. I just remember thinking, well at least she has the right number of everything: head, arms, legs, etc. I'll try and attach first photo. She did have a shocking time poor thing, but I won't go into that! Her looks have improved since then I'm glad to say.

Congratulations on all the good scans. I have enjoyed reading about the little boys and girls.

Nolda · 16/08/2008 09:23

Don't think I managed the photos. How do I give access to others?

kmp1 · 16/08/2008 11:40

Gosh I've had heaps of illegal food ---- not pate, but peanut butter, runny eggs, spritzers now and again.... I think you have to have the things you like in moderation for your own sanity! I'm bored today, & I've become addicted to Big brother unfortunately

artichokes · 16/08/2008 11:46

Welcome back Nolda. I can see the photos. I think your DD's first shot is super cute. I had total baby goggles but now when I look back I see that maybe DD was not the most gorgeous baby ever to be born despite my first thoughts. I have temporarily attached a pic of her aged 12 hours. She was HUGE!

Congrats on your tip of the day success Rosmerta! I bow down to your MN eminence.

kmp1 · 16/08/2008 12:04

Gosh both your babies are super cute!!

Verso · 16/08/2008 12:13

Both babies totally cute!

(or does this mean you can have pregnancy goggles as well? ).

artichokes how big was your DD? My DD was 9lb 6oz and very long - I was quite astonished when they handed her to me as I was expecting a delicate little thing!

kmp1 · 16/08/2008 12:18

Veggiemummy I was just having a sticky at everyone's profiles / photo's and noticed you are an Aussie? Me too! Where are you from?
Verso at my 21+5 scan they were talking "percentiles" and my bub was at the 7th or something so above average in size, but they said it's normal since I'm having a boy and caucasian, as the averages include a lot of the population who are Asian. Do you remember the measurements at that stage for your DD?

artichokes · 16/08/2008 12:21

Verso - DD was 9lb 4oz so a simlar weight. She was 10 days early so I think she was heading for 10lbs. Also I had pre-eclampsia which is meant to affect your placenta and thus result in smaller babies. When she was first born alll I remember is DH speaking in a VERY high pitched voice chanting "she is huge, she is huge" over and over. I asked how heavy she was and he said "they have not weighed her yet but I think she might be 17lbs!!!". Thankfully he was wrong.

artichokes · 16/08/2008 12:24

KMP - I think scans and medical estmiates of weight are very unreliable. DD was always average on scans and 24 hours before I had her the consultant tried to feel how big she was and he swore she was not above average. In fact he said "I am certain this baby is no more than 7 and a half lbs". Either DD put on 2lbs while I was in labour or he hadn't got a clue...

kmp1 · 16/08/2008 12:29

Oh right - thanks! I'm booked for a C-Sect so no major problem, but already feel massive so not sure I want to become too massive!

Verso · 16/08/2008 12:52

I was told a couple of weeks before I had DD that I was measuring small . Turned out she was probably lying transverse at the time they measured my fundal height.

Sorry kmp I don't know what percentile DD was on (except she had a huge head!) but after the birth she was consistently 95th or more - and still is. (I've just double checked online and she's still 95th for both height and weight .)

kmp1 · 16/08/2008 12:56

Oh right lol - My DH is 6'3 and me 5'9 so I'm sure he'll be tall - they say he has long legs and I'm sure feeling them getting booted every night!

Nolda · 16/08/2008 15:39

Artichokes your baby really was cute! No goggles required.

Veggiemummy · 16/08/2008 18:14

hey there Kmp i'm originally from a little town called Mulgoa about an hour and half out of sydney near blue mountains, but also lived in Bribane for 3 years before moving over here 10 years ago. Where you from? Is your DH/DP aussie or english? DH is australian-chinese but we met over here.

We took DS to the national space center today had a nice day but we are all shattered. Tomorrow is DS's birthday so we are taking him to the cariba creek water park at Alton towers, we are going to be completely comatosed by sunday night. I making a big chickpea and lentil curry, a i think we need to get some carb and protein to give us strength, i feel like we are carbing up before a race.

artichokes · 16/08/2008 19:42

Hey VeggieMum - its my DD's birthday tomorrow too! She will be two, how old will your DS be. How funny will it be if we have our second kids on the same day too (I am due on 10/12, what about you?)

Veggiemummy · 16/08/2008 19:49

DS is 3. he is so excited about for last month he has been telling whoever will listen that 'he is 3 in August' happy birthday to your little girl, what are you up to. i am due 15th so if i'm early or your late it could happen.

artichokes · 16/08/2008 20:22

We are not doing anything big tomorrow. Present opening in the morning (we have bought her the cutest wooden kitchen and wooden pans and veg). A few family and close friends are coming over in the afternoon for cake and balloons but her big party is next weekend when all my original NCT group are having a joint second party for our 8 toddlers.

Two years ago to the minute I was screaming in pain, begging for an epidural and telling DH and the midwife that I thought I might die from pain . DH was just reminding me of it all (hormones and helped me forget). Thanks for the reminder DH - I can't believe I am going to do that again soon (although hopefully it will be a little different).

Veggiemummy · 16/08/2008 20:26

i still have about an hour til it will be 3 years since my waters broke (although it was my hind waters so broke slowly) he was born late on the 17th.

Olipop · 17/08/2008 06:48

Good morning ....yes it really is 6.40 on a Sunday! DS gets up any time between 5 and 5.30. I was hoping for at least a few months of normal wake up times before it all starts again but I think I am fooling myself!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to arti and veggies little ones. Hope you all have lovely days!
We're off to fairoakes airport (little small planes) to erm...watch planes! I never thought I'd see the day!
Braved Ikea yesterday and in honour of this thread I purchased some Daim bars which are now sitting in the fridge saying 'eat me' everytime I open the door (yes...even at this early hour!).

Verso · 17/08/2008 07:09

olipop we've managed to get DD to stretch to 6am or thereabouts by using a rabbit alarm clock (one where you don't have to be able to tell the time). She still wakes at 5:30ish sometimes but knows she mustn't disturb Mummy and Daddy until the clock wakes up (unless she needs the loo). I'm not sure how old your DS is but it might be worth a try.

Verso · 17/08/2008 07:13

P.S. we were in IKEA Purley Way on Friday as my Mum has recently moved house and is now near us and wanted some blinds. She lost us , and because she refuses to actually use her mobile phone she had to put out a tannoy announcement . No Daims for us as we had to leave sharpish as she was a bit cross!
