Indith · 14/08/2008 18:05

Yup, terrible for e-coli, more likely to get ill eating that than you are a nice, good quality cheese. No Dr ever told you to not eat lettuce though

Veggiemummy · 14/08/2008 18:58

oh i love that Dippy eggs are not only yummy but illegal i hadn't thought about that, i want to e bad.

I have been skimming through to catch up and in my haste tp skim over words i read that LT had had an illicit taste of a wedding couple, i had to read over what she said about 5 times before i actually saw that she had said she had had an illicit taste of some cheese at a wedding a couple of weeks ago. Was very bemused.

Mibbes go Erin, i want to have a go tomorrow on the partner one again as DH is homeworking at the mo and DS is at nursery in the morn but there is a homebirth group meeting that all the independent midwives in the area run so i can meet up with the back up ladies tomorrow morning, it is only on once a month so should go?????

Beans re: your DH thinking it won't change his life much hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahaha
he's so funny.

My DH actually over stressed about how much it was going to change his life to the point that it wasn't anywhere near as bad as he thought. He was so hung up on not getting enough sleep but then surprised himself with how well he coped with the lack of it, and in his words you don't really care being woken up when the thing that wakes you is your own son.

Veggiemummy · 14/08/2008 19:00

i thought bagged lettuce and salad was bad cos it was washed with chlorine and other nasty chemicals.

Oh Jam you asked about vits, i'm taking those pregnacare ones but i have been told that as long as you get a balance diet it's all good.

speaking of balanced diet i think i need some chocolate, anyone want to join me or are you all hiding in your kitchens eating naughty illegal cheese.

EffiePerine · 14/08/2008 19:55

Right, I think I have finally loaded some photos on my profile... lord knows when we'll get any of this baby up there!

daisydora · 14/08/2008 20:02

Hello all,

God its hard keeping up with everyone - btw like the new thread.

Had appointment with consultant this morning and although she hasn't ruled out my chances of a normal delivery she said my chances were 'slim' as there isn't room for the baby to turn and be head down(for those who don't know I have a bicornate uterus). But she didn't rule it out completely and is going to reasses me at 36 weeks, so everyone cross their fingers the baby turns and I don't have to have a section.

Saw physio this afternoon re: my SPD. Got some great tips about how to reduce the movement of my pelvis etc which should in turn reduce the pain - here's hoping! But if that wasn't bad enough I had to go to GP yesterday as I has having the most awful chest pain that was going round to my back. Turns out I have probably pulled/strained some muscles in my rib area making it very hard to breath!!!!!! I swear this is my last pregnancy.

Other than that I feel great hope you lovely ladies are well and blooming

EffiePerine · 14/08/2008 20:03

Glad you got some advice on the SPD Dora and sending you baby moving vibes

EffiePerine · 14/08/2008 20:05

Have also been thinking about that strange phenomenon where you think your baby is incredibly beautiful (and secretly sneer at all the others who frankly look a bit odd). Then you look back at the photos and realise they were oddballs too . Pesky hormones

Veggiemummy · 14/08/2008 20:23

oh Daisy you poor thing, sounds all a bit nasty. you must eat some chocolate.

Watching men's gymnastics and eating pizza, doesn't get much better than this.

daisydora · 14/08/2008 20:27

veggie DH has just wondered in from work with a choccie bar for me - I love him (well for the next 10 mins anyway

effie I remember when DD was born being relieved that she was not bug ugly. Looked at photos other day, she had a face like a squashed frog but she is my squashed frog

rosmerta · 14/08/2008 21:03

effie yes hormones have a lot to answer for when you have a baby, ds had baby acne when he was born!

daisydora glad you got some advice re spd, hope it helps. Baby moving vibes from me too!

veggie I've been watching the men's gymnastics today as well with a bag of maltesers

Re 'naughty' food I'm so much more relaxed this time around. Last time we went to a friend's house for a xmas dinner & they'd done pate for starters which I wouldn't eat, this was about 2 weeks before ds was due . Needless to say, I'd wolf it down now!

Morning! Managing to get some sneaky MN time whilst DS covers me in various stickers from his Big Cook Little Cook sticker book! I MUST remember to remove them before going out!
Hope everyone is ok...bean was doing crazy wriggling last night, kept me awake for ages! But in a nice way of course!

katie3677 · 15/08/2008 08:51

Some brie is pasteurised, I know that a Welsh brie from Caws Cenarth is fine as I bought some the other day. Not easy to find though, maybe Neals Yard for all you Londoners.
I'm off to France for a week on Sunday and there is no way that I'm missing out on all the wonderful food out there, and I may even indulge in the odd glass of wine, so that I don't feel left out!
The real growth spurt is from 30 weeks apparently, this is when they are going to start monitoring me every two weeks to make sure I don't have another 11lb-er!

zoejeanne · 15/08/2008 09:06

Pleased to see there's lots of other 'illegal eaters' out there - I'm going on the theory that my Mum ate what she wanted and I'm still hanging in there - just trying to get lots of fruit and veg and milk along side all the 'nasties' I'm eating. Strangely I feel I have to justify what I eat in public, so always try to be good when with others - which then annoys me, as they are my friends and don't judge me on anything else I've done in my life (well not to my face anyway )

I asked the MW about vitamins, and was told that as long as I ate a varied diet I'd get enough anyway - I think the special ones for PG ladies are all low dose so they don't overdose the baby, so you can probably get it from food anyway (and my diet is very varied, will try anything!)

And finally on bagged lettuce - my DH is a vegetable grower for the supermarket and gets really uptight about washing it properly and not keeping it too long and always has done. He doesn't worry about anything else, including best before dates or eating veggies straight out of the field just 5 minutes after a liberal spray of high dose chemical! So just wash it well girls.

Sorry about the essay at this time of day - I obviously get far too excited when talking about food

Hope you all have a good day

mibbes · 15/08/2008 09:13

Olipop I had a disco dancing baby last night too - kept me awake for ages !
Beans LOL at your DH, and am glad I'm not the only one starting to be a bit freaked by the labour bit !
Veggie had a curry last night instead of doign Tara , may try and do Erin tonight and Tara over the weekend , enjoy the class today.

hattyyellow · 15/08/2008 09:22

Laughing out loud at the "ugly baby" syndrome. We thought our girls were gorgeous when they were born and I look at all the photos we proudly sent around now and like all babies they are squashed red-faced balding looking things!

But as dora says they are my squashed faced little frog things!

I've been eating pasteurised brie from Tesco. Have also been having poached eggs - they have the lion mark which some sites seem to say is all that matters. Ooh and had some chicken satay. That feels so much better for admitting it all! Have been eating lots of healthy stuff as well

EffiePerine · 15/08/2008 10:56

I am also on the peanuts, steered clear of pate so far though. Will check ingredients for liver because I love the stuff!

zoejeanne · 15/08/2008 11:05

peanuts is the one thing I'm trying to avoid (although not reading lots of labels thoroughly I admit) - I've heard that peanuts can cause exzema and hayfever, and as I suffer from both I don't want to pass that on!

Beans33 · 15/08/2008 11:07

I think you only need to avoid peanuts if one of you has an allergy? I eat them. Only things I don't eat are the high-mercury fish, liver and blue cheese. although snuck a bit in the other day when DH wasn't looking! and went to a wedding in France and they had foie gras pate to start with, so I tucked in... Sure there's so many reasons I shouldn't have that - mostly moral.

I figure that all this can and can't eat stuff is only in the last 10 years anyway, and babies survived and were healthy for centuries before with people eating terrible stuff, so reckon it can't be that bad.

jumpjockey · 15/08/2008 11:07

Morning all! Glad to hear I'm not the only naughty eater, I've avoided pate just because I don't really like it but have been having the odd bit of air-dried ham and occasionally a runny egg [drool]. I found out from my dad that my mum smoked and drank moderately throughout both her pregnancies, and me and bro seem to have turned out ok. So I'm sure a bit of gorgonzola pasta sauce isn't going to do any harm!

I must admit I'm still taking the pregnancy vits, but mostly because my skin's been much better since starting them - what this says about my usual diet I don't want to know . Also, they seem to have cured my greying hair!! I found several that were grey at the end but brown again from the root, I might patent this and sell it and make my fortune

Hope everyone's got a lovely sunny day, I'm feeling full of the joys of summer at last and junior is playing gymnast which is a really nice feeling

Beans33 · 15/08/2008 11:35

Oooh, I'm still taking pregnacare, yes. One of my friends recommended it. BUT it is so expensive, that I think once I've finished this batch, I'm going to stop. It's just too much money to spend and apart from chocolate, think I eat a pretty balanced diet most of the time!

EffiePerine · 15/08/2008 11:38

well DS found my pregnacare tablets today and licked one of them . Panicked phone call from DH but am pretty sure there's nothing toxic in them (not in the amount he'd get from a lick anyway). Must hide them somewhere else now he's climbing...

Beans33 · 15/08/2008 11:52

Oh gosh, Effie, I read that as your DH licked one and I got the giggles. But now realise it was your DS! Sorry. But sure that there's nothing bad in them, and if he was receiving them in the womb, via you, then they can't be bad for him, I'm sure! Particularly if it was just a lick. Actually, that's really quite sweet, I'm picturing it now!

I had a total panic this morning, as woke up to find (sorry to be a bit gross) a brownish stain on our sheet. Total panic stations as thought I was bleeding. Anyway, read about it in a book and apparently it's normal to bleed a bit after "action" as your cervix is softer and more easily damaged. So thankfully panic over. Phew. Was an hour late for work as a consequence as was thinking bed rest etc.

LadyThompson · 15/08/2008 11:53

What's a bicornate uterus, Daisy? And I am so sorry for anyone with SPD, sounds excruciating...

I'm eating peanuts - none of my relatives or DP's relatives (or either of us) have any known allergies so I'm risking it. Will be washing me bagged salad now though...As for runny eggs...I would rather bite my own arm off and eat that than a runny egg, so no worries there.

'Baby goggles' - YES, that explains two friends of mine going into raptures about their infant and saying repeatedly "Isn't Isobel BEAUTIFUL? Isn't she almost freakishly goodlooking? She could model." (Um...no, no and I heartily doubt it).

theyoungvisiter · 15/08/2008 12:07

I've stopped with the vitamins - I couldn't take them without gagging anyway (had to switch to just folic acid tablets at one point because they are so much smaller and easier to swallow).

Last time I took them all the way through but I seem to be a lot more slack about most things this time round!

pixsix · 15/08/2008 12:07

Beans sorry to hear about your panic, if you're worried, I would really recommend calling the Antenatal Day Unit at St Thomas' (number is on the front of the yellow notes). You can tell them what happened on the phone and they will say whether or not you should go in to get checked. I'm not saying that I think you should worry but just if you want reassurance, I found them lovely and understanding and didn't make me feel like I was wasting their time at all. Hope you are ok.
