Are we still in the gymnastics?

I chuckled at hatty and jollybears pg brains too, but only cause so far today I've done not anything silly (there's still plenty of time!)

I was given a spa package for christmas which I now can't take, so I've just swapped it for 2 pre natal massages - one in October and one the day I start maternity leave - can't wait, think I'll really need it then!

EffiePerine · 14/08/2008 13:53

see, we are the classy thread

re pg brain, narrowly avoided another skirt-tucked-into-knickers incident before a meeting this morning. It's only a matter of time...

Indith · 14/08/2008 13:55

Yes to vivid dreams, so horrible I someties wake and feel like I've not slept.

Beans I had pelvic pain a lot with ds, a sleep pillow def helped to stop everything "dragging down" when I was trying to sleep.

Tax credits are great and those studenty ones/self employed but not really making money ones among us should def get some as you don't have to be earning at all to get the child tax credits. Then if you are under 25 having a child means you can get the working tax credits if you or your dp work (and are under the limit which is much lower than the CTC). Even when dp and I were both students we got CTC. CTC for low earners/non earners is probably about £200 a month I think (mine having gone down a bit not due to ds being over 1 and us actually having an income) Another one to remember is the Surestart maternity grant. You have to be on some form of benefit to get it but you have 3 months after the birth to claim so if you don't get anything now, apply for your child benefit as soon as the baby is born, when you have those you can apply for your CTC. When you have that you can apply for the grant and get between £250 and £500! You then get a few more things off the back of that, because we had the grant we were then sent a letter to say that we could get Healthy Start vouchers (what used to be milk tokens) which was something like £5.60 a week to spend on fresh milk or formula milk, fresh fruit and veg. Ace. Also could have been eligable for Warm Start which was free insulation or double glazing but we rent so I didn't get the details for that.

Gosh that is a long bit of waffle on benefits. I'd like to point out that I don't believe in scrounging but it is good to know what is around and to apply. I should still be able to get the maternity grant this year, which makes me feel odd because we have a pretty good income now and if I needed a grant to be able to afford another child I wouldn't be having a child (ds was a slight surprise, having a baby when you ar both students is not a good way to find out about benefits) but I and everyone else who feels odd applying for stuff should remember that they don't look at a list and say "ah yes Indith has not claimed her money so let's give it to Mrs Bloggs who is really struggling" so you may as well take it.

Second/third 2nd hand stuff. Ds still gets clothed mainly from charity shops and I oftne have a look round a few if I'm in town to keep my eyes open for anything he needs, clothes, toys, books etc. The other day I got 2 great jumpers for him and all the clothes the new baby will need for the first 3-6 months for £8.

Indith · 14/08/2008 14:01

Ah yes saw the MW today too (since this is an antenatal thread and all that jazz). The regular CMW is ill so instead I had the CMW who delivered ds Was really lovely, ds was much admired as he emptied her cupboard of leaflets and it was nice to chat about the HB and what I would change this time etc

Beans33 · 14/08/2008 14:23

Thanks effie and indith - will try that. Although last night I popped a pillow between my legs, but it really was too sore to sleep on my side, even with that there. I could only sleep on my back. Very annoying! Haven't helped matters at lunch by sitting on the grass in local square - had to almost pull my friend over as she helped me to stand up! Lovely girl! Lots of wincing and whinging from me - stoic friend!

Olipop · 14/08/2008 14:31

Yes, still waiting for my scan (next Thursday)
Just been out on a boat on the Thames for a drink to say farewell to a girl off on maternity leave, feeling a bit jealous and a bit relieved that it's not me yet!

simmo14 · 14/08/2008 14:58

Hi all
Like the new thread.
Just a quick question. Has anyone been given their mat b1 form yet? Seem to remeber getting it about 20 last time but have not got it yet. Do I get it from the Dr or the midwife?

Olipop · 14/08/2008 15:01

I haven't got mine yet. I think I got it from the doctor last time but I'm not sure...I think either can give it to you.

Beans33 · 14/08/2008 15:05

I got mine from the midwife on my follow up to anomaly scan visit to her last week.

simmo14 · 14/08/2008 15:12

Thanks for the quick replies olipop and beans.
I had my follow up app on tuesday and I only thought about not having one today. Will give them a ring as i am now not due to see anyone til 28 weeks (at least 7 weeks away). I think work need to see it before then!

zoejeanne · 14/08/2008 15:29

I was originally told by the midwife I'd get the MAT B1 at 21 weeks, so I called the doctors this week to find out if I had to collect or if it would be sent, and I don't get it for another 3 weeks now. I think my work is getting a bit hacked off waiting to be honest. Seems it's like everything else and done differently in different areas of the country.

olipop that sounds like a very civilised way to send someone off. I got dragged round town on drunken night out last week for a colleagues leaving do - needless to say I wasn't drunk and all I really wanted was chips and bed!

Beans33 · 14/08/2008 15:37

Is anyone else really not missing booze? I honestly thought that when pregnant I would be more than happy to have a few glasses of wine here and there. And actually, I would if I fancied it. I've been poured a glass of wine twice and thought "ooh, yes please" then had one sip and handed it back. Just really don't want any. Quite a strange, but lovely thought! Loving not boozing!

rosmerta · 14/08/2008 15:44

beans I don't miss it either tbh, I haven't really drank that much since being pregnant with ds. Have had the odd glass of wine here & there since been pregnant with junior but nothing much.

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 14/08/2008 15:49

Well I sodding well miss it. Nowadays, I have 2, or occasionally, 3, glasses of wine a week (not together, and not on an empty stomach or without food - those are my 'rules') - and I always feel like I want more. I think I only had one glass of champagne in my first trimester though. And that was on my birthday so fair enough I reckon.

So not ready to take the pledge yet, I'm afraid...

LadyThompson · 14/08/2008 15:51

Have a query about Statutory Maternity Pay - quite a thick one. If you've got a job but you're only getting SMP, which I am because my employers are tightarses - don't I hand the MatB1 in to them, rather than going to the Job Centre? Confused...

rosmerta · 14/08/2008 16:00

LadyT, I think you do give it to your employer. I found this website quite useful

OP posts:
Beans33 · 14/08/2008 16:04

Yup, this is good recommended by our HR manager. You can explore around.

Beans33 · 14/08/2008 16:10

Oops, think it's the same one!

Just given myself a huge papercut. OW!

LadyThompson · 14/08/2008 16:12

Thanks ladies, very useful.

When I saw the obstetrician on Tuesday, she said there's an amazing growth spurt between 24 and 29 weeks. Can't see stretch marks on my fat tummy yet but I'm sure I will in a month, despite the liberal application of Bio-Oil.

mibbes · 14/08/2008 16:13

Olipop right am defo getting myself those CDs, thanks for the tip. LOL at you not needing all the bits you'd packed for birth - I bet I'm the same, I'll have a suitcase full of essential items and not use a single one !
Purple hurray for a wee girl with a cutesy nose !
waiitng have you tried signing up for your local freecycle ? My DP has spotted loads of maternity and baby goodies being given away - he is always too slow though, you have to be in there quickly !
JollyBear congrats on scan missus - another surprise baby then LOL at your baked potato !
ZJ am very of your massages. I plan to go on a 'mum-to-be' pampering day with my mum (they do 'granny-to-be' packages too !) when mat leave starts - the baby had better not come before then or I'll be furious !
Effie it is time for trousers !
Beans, hope you get some relief from pain soon, sounds nasty. I have been amazed at my abililty not to drink ! I was a bit of a booze-lover (not as in alcoholic, as in a bit of a weekend binger) but have not missed it one iota ! I reckon if I tasted red wine I'd love it but have not been tempted to try - best just to stay off it if am not bothered Plus it will de me no harm to abstain for 9 months - I'm probably the healthiest I've ever been
Veggie I did Erin again last night - I LOVE her ! Plan to do Tara tonight

Olipop · 14/08/2008 16:16

I am missing wine a bit...went out with DH to celebrate our 7th anniversary on Monday and the git proceeded to choose the following strange but entirely evil menu:

Pate and toast
A cheese board
Washed down with a bottle of red

He missed out on a main course just to ensure he had room for more gorgeous cheese!

I then drove home !

mibbes · 14/08/2008 16:16

LT My DP was 'inspecting' the bump for stretchmarks last night ! He almost seemed disappointed there was nothing to show for my hugely expanding belly. Oh and YIKES if we are entering a huge growth spurt !!! Flip the title of this thread just gets more and more apt

zoejeanne · 14/08/2008 16:18

Oh god, not thought about being early - the second massage is only booked for 4 weeks before my EDD. Will have to have stern words with baby so it knows to stay in there until at least week 37! mibbes think my mum will be of the granny to be massages - ntohing like that round here!

mibbes · 14/08/2008 16:19

OOOh Olipop he is soooo due you a luxurious and indulgent meal after Dec . It is so bl00dy unfair that they get to have a few drinks, eat all the yum food and then taxi'd home grrrr... PLUS we have to push the blimin' baby out If ever there was proof that God was a man...!

Olipop · 14/08/2008 16:21

Oh, and you'll love this then.....in a discussion about impending childbirth he ACTUALLY made the statement 'well it wasn't THAT bad was it'......I was floored!
