Afternoon all,

I bought my first baby items this week . Only a babygrow and a few vests mind! I have been thinking about a snowsuit too hatty. Those northern winds have certainly got us thinking along the same lines! The ones I've seen so far are all white which doesn't strike me as the most practical colour I find it really frustrating that most of the newborn stuff is pink, blue or white. Anyone have any recommendations for somewhere that sells things in brighter colours?

I'm totally confused about prams/car seats/slings etc. I can't afford to splash out on another one if buy the wrong thing. How are people deciding what to get? Do shops like mothercare or John Lewis give good advice?

Don't fret too much, if you are prone you to stretchmarks you can't avoid them and they will fade SL. I have loads from puberty and they just fade to a sort of silvery line.

Beans33 · 22/08/2008 16:49

these are good, JB

I havent' bought anything still. Been sent a babygrow by my godmother and my sisters are on standby with bits and bobs. We haven't even sorted out our nursery at all. although have sold the spare bed on ebay for £21!!! it's being collected on Tuesday. then moving our current bed into spare room and new superking arriving on Weds. Bliss.

in sept will then cart old bed down to storage in parent's garage in kent, ready for Operation Nursery. So much to do!!!!

Beans33 · 22/08/2008 16:51

or these?

JollyBear · 22/08/2008 16:53

Ooooooooh I love the red one beans, thanks! I'm tempted to make a purchase right now

Beans33 · 22/08/2008 16:53

Purple79 · 22/08/2008 16:53

hattyyellow · 22/08/2008 16:56

Aw Beans they are all so cute! I remember this last time around, I'd look at pictures of tiny snuggly babies in catalogues and go all wobbly .

Especially the little bearcub Boden one - that would be perfect for your bearcub Jollybear !

Beans33 · 22/08/2008 16:59

It is gorgeous isn't it? Although don't forget those babies are older than 3 months, so a bit more attractive than the squealers we'll have initially (although, we'll all think they're stunningly beautiful - of course!)

Can't wait to meet mine now. It's punching away in me - think it's trying to get out!

JollyBear · 22/08/2008 17:02

It certainly would hatty! The Boden stuff is gorgeous. They have lovely bright babygrows as well. Someone hide my credit card quick!!

Have a great weekend purple and the rest of you lovely ladies. Hurray for bank holidays!

hattyyellow · 22/08/2008 17:02

I remember my brother saying that 3 months was the point at which most babies became cute little roundcheeked cherubs rather than wrinky red balding newborns - it was certainly the case with ours!

Ooh I might have to order one of the bearcub suits. Although I might end up having to persaude DDs that new baby is not another one of their teddy bears and needs to be treated rather more gently!

Beans33 · 22/08/2008 17:06

They are really sweet. Maybe I'll have to buy one too!

Beans33 · 22/08/2008 17:21

right girlies, I'm off for the long weekend - HEAVEN! Have a smashing time and look forward to some catching up on tuesday - yeeeeehah!

Have a great weekend.

these guys do great kids clothes, really colourful stuff. I got some things from Bordeaux last time I was there. As a mum to a boy I find it so hard to get bright things! Everyone seems to think boys wear blue or brown. There are red and orange snowsuits under the boy section.

White isn't such a bad colour for a snowsuit though...same colour as baby sick

Jeans, I have these and they are fab.

Jollybear, buying a pram is hard ot get right as you only find out what it is really like to use when you've had it a while. MN is good for finding stuff out as people share experiences. Also just play with it lots in the shop, put it up and down several times etc. For slings, have a look at the ones Effie linked to as you can hire most types of sling so try out. Also check out sling meet and www.thebabywearer.com for local groups where other mums will be more than happy to go on about slings and let you try them out.

EffiePerine · 22/08/2008 19:25

Beans: I am in the Large size at H&M which a big sign helpfully informed me was 18-20 . Seeing as I'm still fitting in non-maternity 12-14 stuff I think not!

Snowsuits: we hadd a Green Baby one for DS, can't see it on the website so maybe winter stock. I like the red one too!

Olipop · 22/08/2008 19:55

Looks like I missed most of you as you're all off and away!
Just to set you all at rest, I didn't find out the sex. DH and I always said we wouldn't but when the sonographer asked I did have a wavering moment but stuck to my guns!
One of my NCT friends from last time round rang me this afternoon. I thought she was going to ask if I wanted to go to the park so was flabbergasted when she told me she'd just had a little boy!! She wasn't due til the 5th Sept and I was so sure she was ringing about a play date it took me a good while to grasp what she was saying! Can't wait for a squidge.
Rosemerta...that is who you are thinking! They've called him Toby and all went well!

majormoo · 23/08/2008 09:15

Twiga hope you settle in well. We live in Brighton and I love it. It is so easy to make friends here when you have children as it is bursting with families who move him when they are expecting their kids.

Not sure what I am going to do about a coat for Nov/Dec. Don't want to fork out on a maternity coat I will wear for such a short time but otherwise it could be freezing. My DD was born in heatwave of 2003 and DS born in Oct 06 after another hot summer, so not had to consider it before.

EffiePerine · 23/08/2008 10:17

majormoo: don't know about you but I was boiling last time all through the third trimester, so I reckon big cardis and jumoers might be sufficient, plus maybe a waterproof? I'm reluctant to fork out on a proper coat for only a couple of months.

Verso · 23/08/2008 11:24

majormoo I wear a wrap/serape (aka "Mummy's blanket") and it works really well when pg over the top of whatever else you're wearing in the winter. Might be worth a try?

summerlightning I got loads of stretch marks with DD and didn't even see any of them until after she was born as they were under the biggest part of my bump! They still show a bit, but have faded to silver. I'm not too bothered as I've never been a bikini bod anyway. I don't think there's anything you can do to prevent them - some people get them and some don't - it's genetic. Not sure if what you describe is definitely stretch marks though, as mine were painless...

Anyone else feeling a bit rubbish today? (I seem to be out of synch with most of you as I log on at home not work and you lot all seem to chat while at work!). I'm really fed up and grumpy today, but have no idea why. I keep snapping at DD and DH . Any suggestions?

EffiePerine · 23/08/2008 11:50

Verso: cup of tea and chocolate . Can you get out at all for a walk and a cafe break?

I have a 'holiday' today as DS and DH are at MIL's till tomorrow. What am I doing? Housework . I did stay in bed till all of 10am though .

artichokes · 23/08/2008 13:06

Verso I hope you are feeling better. Can you plan something fun for this afternoon to take your mind off how you are feeling. I am having an "off" day too. With this pregnancy there are just some mornings where I wake up feeling sluggish and stiff. Today I have painful heartburn crushing my chest and I can'T gather momentum to do much. I am desperatley trying to to get irritable with DH and DD though as they are being lovely and its not here fault. We did just go out to brunch which gave us something nice to do and cheered me up a little (but even a bowl of yoghurt, fruit and honey has made my heartburn worse!).

Majormoo I am always boiling when pregnant so I am hoping to avoid purchasing anything more than an XXL waterproof and one warm maternity sweater.

kmp1 · 23/08/2008 19:53

Verso I only chat at home as well - but i work only part time at the moment which helps. Hope you are feeling better now. I had a good day today after my down days earlier in the week! Weather being nice makes such a difference to the mood

Twiga · 23/08/2008 23:28

Just a quick hi and thanks for all the good wishes re our recent move - need to head to bed and also not very sociable with parents here - mind you dad is snoozing and mum had the paper - still. preggiejane · 24/08/2008 11:41

Nesting fever has hit home, had a big clean and clear up yesterday- paying for it today though feels so achy!

Had a little meltdown too yestrday wtih DH, suddenly felt sad that in a few months time it will no longer be just two of us- after 10 years as a twosome (although so happy to be having baby). Did anyone else feel like this with their first?

EffiePerine · 24/08/2008 11:47
