Sorry for rubbish title, best I could do

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Verso · 20/08/2008 10:56

(Crossed posts! hatty I think it's called "white coat hypertension" and I get it quite badly. The first reading is always rubbish and then if they wait to the end of the appointment and take it again it's back to normal. I think I just have a bad phobia of doctors/hospitals after DD's birth and various family emergency operations/times in ICU etc.)

artichokes I hope you get some answers to your fluctuating BP - it does sound quite extreme!

hattyyellow · 20/08/2008 11:05

Can anyone help me with this? I cooked chilli last night from meat I'd defrosted on Monday night. I'm now paranoid about eating it tonight as I can't remember whether you can reheat defrosted meat...but I can't face the thought of throwing out good leftovers and having to cook again!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/4/590476

White coat hypertension - that's the one Verso thank you! How old is your DD? Mine are just 3 and in beds but I'm leaving the night time training as long as possible. They're the babies of their pre-school year but even the children who are nearly 4 a lot of them are still in nappies at night time..

Verso · 20/08/2008 11:11

DD is 3yrs 5 months. I'm not wanting to push her, trainingwise. She just seemed to be doing well with it of her own accord (it was her that suggested nappies were for babies and she wanted to try without!). Not a huge problem to put her back in nappies - and probably easier for the family as a whole as we will all sleep better - just didn't want to burst her bubble when she'd been so proud of herself!

rosmerta · 20/08/2008 11:18

verso, you've just answered my question! I was wondering how long ds would be in nappies at nighttime, quite a bit longer then I see!

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 20/08/2008 11:42

Verso shes done well so far to ask to get out of the nappies does she wet loads, could you put her in pull ups to make her feel a bit less like nappies?

I forgot to add about the getting DC's out of cots thing we had to take DS's sides off his cotbad at 18months as he was able to climb over the sides. He's not a big kids but her climbs like a monkey. Anyway we left the side down initially to get him used to less side (as it was a cotbed it was low to the ground) and then took it off and put one of those side guard rails on for a few months. He was fine with it. he gets up if he wants to but really no more than he was calling out to us to get him out before (or scaling the sides of his cot).

Arti sorry to hear about your SIL that must have been hard will your bro be able to spend more time closer to home now.

was feeling quite grumpy this morning but did some Tara and feeling loads better now.

Hatty the meat dish is fine as long as you don't reheat another time after this just eat, the defrosted meat isn't a prob just don't reheat more than once.

theyoungvisiter · 20/08/2008 12:51

turnips your poor SIL.

artichokes I suffer from awful white coat hypertension

But I believe it's usually the top number that is affected by stress so your low reading does sound odd.

Were you sitting upright with your feet on the ground when you took it? Even a slight incline can make quite a difference to your bp. Alternatively, do you think your home machine is working properly? Might be worth getting another member of the family to try it a couple of times.

it sounds like she is doing really well turnip - I hope your poor SIL gets to hold her very soon. And congratulations on being an auntie!!

[whisper - I am having my second lunch of the day... first one didn't fill me up enough - anyone else got incredibly greedy all of a sudden?!]

LadyThompson · 20/08/2008 13:29

Greedy - yes. I am strangely greedy today.

Beans on wholemeal toast for breakfast

Fab ice lolly mid morning (78 calories only) and a nectarine.

Just had a small bowl of organic cornflakes and now off to buy a healthy lunch!

Will have some grapes mid afternoon and the heaven knows what for supper.

theyoungvisiter · 20/08/2008 13:33

I have had:

Breakfast:
1 slice of wholemeal toast, plus crusts of DS's slice (which I have to eat apparently)
1 nectarine

first lunch:
1 toasted ciabatta thingy with cheese
small portion salad

second lunch
1/2 of another piece of toasted ciabatta thingy (first one was so nice)
2 spoonfuls of curly fries
(the curly fries were only because the nice dinner lady in the work canteen was concerned that I was not feeding my bump properly with only 1/2 a ciabatta and I was too embarrassed to admit this was my 2nd lunch... so I took the fries... and ate them!)

later today I will be having:
remainder of whatever DS eats when he gets home from nursery

something substantial for supper! Chili con carne I think. Mmmmm....

zoejeanne · 20/08/2008 13:48

I'm having very hungry days at the moment too - I did in the early months as well, but then got a grip on my hunger for about ... a week! Glad I'm not just greedy and it is a real pregnancy symptom.

turnip I'm pleased to read all is well with your niece, and I hope that she can leave hospital and go home to Ireland soon so she enjoy all her baby bits that are waiting there for her.

TMI question I'm afraid - this week I've got really dry skin on my nipples, actually flaking off! Is that normal? It's not comfy and I'm worried if it's dry now what on earth will it be like when I try to BF? Anyone else found this?

theyoungvisiter · 20/08/2008 13:52

zoejeanne - that's so funny as I have exactly the same thing, but I had been assuming it was because I am still feeding DS. I didn't get it first time round so had assumed he was scraping the skin or something - ouch!

Anyway don't worry about the bf thing, your boobs do totally different things after you give birth and (I think?!) your nipples secrete all sort of useful oils and stuff.

Olipop · 20/08/2008 13:56

Hi everyone...good news about your niece Turnip.
Glad you're all eating tonnes too - I am certainly making up for early starvation due to sickness!
Only got one day at work this week tra la la la la! Scanning tomorrow and it's right in the middle of the day so no point coming in before or after!! Wahoo!

Purple79 · 20/08/2008 14:52

Hi all, haven't been on for a while, bit busy in work, have been doing my best to keep up with you all, so please forgive for the lack of posting, am still here and do very much care ... definately should be online at home hopefully within next couple of weeks, fingers crossed!

How traumatic for your SIL Turnip, good news they can see Lily (such a lovely cute name)today, hope all is well.

mibbes my DP is exactly the same with the old passion thing... very fustrating! I know its not the fact that he doesn't want me, but that he doesn't want to hurt me or bubba - I do strenuously deny that he won't hurt either

Arti Hope you have a wonderful trip to Sciliy and your BP doesn't rear its ugly head.

have not stopped eating also, lunch for example yesterday I was meeting sis at 2.30 so decided to stop at pret at 1.30 and have half a sandwich, lemon cheesecake and some grapes - was starving! Then met sis had Baked seabass, monge tout, green beans, mash and warm chocolate pud with ice cream - though we did share that (was sooo nice)

majormoo · 20/08/2008 15:07

Turnip really hope all Ok for your sister in law. My friend her her now two year old at 33 weeks and he is fine now. On 91st centile for weight!

Verso we had our wedding list at John Lewis and it was a nightmare. A cheque from my work for loads of cutlery and china (over £400) went missing and took months to track down.Plus guests were debited for gifts we did not get. It was nearly 8 years ago though so hopefully it has improved.

LadyThompson · 20/08/2008 15:14

Will you go up and see SIL and niece, Turnip?

TYV, it didn't sound like you were eating all that much to me...

And Verso - I am just trying to order a cabinet from John Lewis - it's out of stock. Seeing as they pride themselves on their customer service, I think a tartly worded letter is called for, where you tell them how their gross inefficiency caused immense stress to a pregnant mother. You might get some vouchers.

zoejeanne · 20/08/2008 15:31

Verso - in that tartly worded letter, highlight your very tight family food budget etc. A friend of mine got a new kitchen from B&Q last year and the oven didn't come for weeks - so she wrote to complain that she and her poor children were living on takeaways at risk to their long term health. B&Q delivered 2 ovens very quickly and didn't charge her for either, and sent lots of vouchers. Oh, and she doesn't have any children

purple your two lunches sound so yummy.

I've hit mid afternoon fatigue, so do I eat an apple or a chocolate digestive to get me through til hometime?

Indith · 20/08/2008 15:39

Gosh Turnip, wishing your SIL all the best. One of my Rainbow's mums had a little boy recently at about that stage, he was out of hospital very quickly, tube fed at first but she pumped lots so as much as poss was EBM and he bf fine now I believe.

Don't talk about John Lewis being rubbish! My wedding list is there!

My diet has been mostly centered around cake recently..am going off it a bit now but can't put my finer on what I want to replace it with.....roast chicken pastie from the bakery yesterday was lush though.

Pregnancy porn does not sound good. Dp is one of those men that find pg women very attractive though so I'm not going to complain

Purple79 · 20/08/2008 15:44

ZJ A lovely juicy apple... am abit peckish now!!

veggie the tara dvd, can anyone do it or do you have to have some experience in yoga?

Olipop · 20/08/2008 16:07

I had my wedding list at JL and it was fine. I do tend to have trouble with anything ordered from anyone for delivery though...anything at all! It's very rare that it all goes smoothly! It makes you not want to order on line for risk of high blood pressure!

Indith · 20/08/2008 16:08

Mmm apples are good, am rediscovering how good now the new season English ones are here.

Olipop · 20/08/2008 16:11

apples...apples!! I'm scoffing peanut m and m's and they are yum!

Purple79 · 20/08/2008 16:21

I've been told to avoid peanuts by my MW and various people around me... anyone else been told this? (I love peanutbutter on toast)!!!

LadyThompson · 20/08/2008 16:24

We were talking about peanuts on here last week - basically, unless there are peanut or similar allergies in your family, the new advice is that peanuts are ok.

I love peanut butter on toast as well.

Mmmmmmmmmmm.

Olipop · 20/08/2008 16:26

I seem to have a bit of a peanut and peanut butter craving! Typical! Next I'll be craving tequila slammers and prescription drugs!
